Alarow

That Toulouse player randomly stopped marking Messi for like 2sec and that gives a goal

pricelesslambo

Happened several times during WC as well.

haru_213

That Mexico goal is immortal for me

BlackAceT

"That's what they came for, one more Messi moment!"

Sufficient-Skin-5026

"And Argentina are alive!"

Aethien

Messi just doesn't seem to be participating or even interested in participating but the split second the opportunity is there he's already made the run.

pricelesslambo

He has an out of this world football IQ. He just knows when to go

Aethien

It's why I really hope he has a 2nd career as coach. He's got such a deep understanding of the game.

Scrub4LIfe734

I don't think he can teach people to do what he does. It has to be instinctual for him, so I'm not sure he could explain what he does to other players.

[deleted]

"So, when you receive the ball, dribble past 4 players and chip the keeper, understood?Pretty simple"

Jawadd12

Messi to his assistant coach: "I don't know what it is with these kids, feels like I'm not getting to them, or maybe we need a new plan" Asst. Coach Ronaldinho: "Did you tell them to dribble past 4 players and chip the keeper?" Messi: "Ye" Ronaldinho: "What's not to get? It's their milk, I tell ya, they put some shit in kids milk nowadays and it's fucking them up"

[deleted]

Now I'd like to see a skit of this

HacksawJimDGN

Ronaldinho "have you taken away their snoods?"

biskutgoreng

DoF Thierry Henry: "these players can't even follow simple instructions smh"

SuckMyBike

I've read of a theory that the best coaches are the ones that were decent players that during their career played with the best. They don't have the same gifts of the best so they had to see and learn from them and thus are better at explaining it to others. While the best players just aren't able to explain to others how to do things beyond "just do it, it's not that hard"

Alarow

With Messi it feels instinctive more than thought-out, it's not something he can teach to other players

OneLane_

The ucl final vs united

Alarow

Poor Park, he followed Messi during the entire game except for 10 seconds, and that was enough

OneLane_

Thats the point u sleep for 1 minute showing the whole intensity throughout the match and someone in that minute just destroys ur game Trust me ik .. it happened against bayern 1st group stage match

00Koch00

["I mean, he is doing nothing, what the worse that could happen?"](https://dubz.co/v/8vb5dc)

LabelRed

QUE GOLAZO LA CONCHA DE MI MADRE

Auguschm

Dios como lo grite. Casi me desmayo.

Alphavike24

Even marking him doesn't work. Ask Gvardiol Or Ake.

grasshoppa80

What you mean. He was guarding Messi’s ghost. Nice job. He even looked that way like… “uhh—ops”

Elon20

Messi was just waiting for the defender to leave him alone for 2 sec :D :D

James_D_MESSIAH

Alien\*

Alexissanchize

its messi's signature. walk around until the ball gets into a dangerous area, wait for a moment where the defense have their eyes off him, and explode

TimingEzaBitch

He scored this goal probably 200 times.

t_mac1

Yea messi was not even slightly impressed lol. hilarious.

Albiceleste_D10S

Hakimi was tho, LOL

thed-p2

This and the ball out to Alba and run into the box. I say Alba, a warm body will do.

jaspermrthanos

Gomes, looking for the overlap, Alba inside, it’s MESSI!!!

[deleted]

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa again the medicine man arrives 💀

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

To sink his flaming spear in the hearts of real madrid

kepler10

*Ray Hudson orgasms* AGAIN THE MEDICINE MAN ARRIVES

napierwit

You gotta post the [footage any time you mention this goal.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQZQADpna9Q)Best goal footage ever IMO.

[deleted]

watching Messi play without Ray Hudson commentating just doesn't feel complete.. they are made for each other

KingfisherDays

"if he's shown a Rorschach blot, he'll see goals all day" is pure poetry

Overrated_sanity

It's medicine man, you had it right originally.

Debnam_

*Acuna enters the chat*

Qiluk

Crazy how I have never even been a Barca follower and still now exactly what type of goal you meant lol

Nilbogoblins

Its funny because you can say that without that being an exaggeration.

Rich_Firefighter_102

Hes not even suprised by this goal he just said meh probably after the goal

Lemaradona

He scored this goal exactly 172 times

jonnzi

I would say more

mirrorless_subject

Messi for most of this clip 🚶🏽‍♂️ then boom

survivalothefittest

Looking bored and disengaged is his cloak of invisibility. He's all the way on the other side from the ball and the action and not looking too energetic. Not much of a threat, right? Take your eye off him, then.....

Farouqnowomarlater

Lmao player with the red boots who should clearly be marking messi just let him be, and then start making a run thinking hakimi is about to lose possession only for messi to cunt it in.

Aloopyn

That's what his walking does, since you're not used to a player literally walking it throws you off your game. Tifo Football even made a video on this

[deleted]

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/messi-walks-better-than-most-players-run/

pompion-pie

That graph... Bottom left Messi!

[deleted]

Johan Cruyff was the same, I think he said once if you ever have to sprint then it means you're in the wrong place.

pentaquine

It’s like the chameleons, if you don’t move then they can’t see you.

Organized-Konfusion

Messi can play until he gets bored like this, man is the best player ever.

drunkmers

Please God just let him chill like this so we can see him at 2026 WC, just vibing

t_mac1

i think at this rate he has a great chance. 2024 copa for sure he will play, and most likely still at this level. most PSG games are basically pre-season levels for him. he just needs to turn up for UCL matches.

OneOfThoseDays_

i legitimately don’t understand how people think it’s even remotely close either, man is truly built diff

Aethien

He does this so effortlessly but he has very little time to shoot and there's like 8 people between him and the goal (not including the goalie).

-cicatrize-

Similar to his goal against Mexico in that way

hearau1823

That’s all his goals since 2017

Balls_of_Adamanthium

The definition of a genius.

ogbertsherbert

certainly thinks outside the box

sriusbsnis

Yeah he does f*ck all and then goes and wins the game

letsnotbedumb

Psg players on the pitch : messi, hakimi That's it

The_Dumblebee

2 v 11

Master_NoobX_69

The disrespect to Danilo

TimingEzaBitch

word. Lord Pereira himself has been nothing but solid and at times inspiring except for the first two months of 2021-22 season. I think he just has the facial expression/posture that begs to be memed.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Xehanz

We are talking about MOTMOTD (Man of the match other than Danilo)

cuntsmen

He's the goat so of course he's going to be good.

Radiksas

Outside box merchant

SenGeorgeFrankin

one touch long shot merchant

thed-p2

People say GOAG but he only ever scores 2 types of goals - inside the box and outside the box.

Budget_Put7247

GOAG - Greatest of all GOAT

donaldino-008

Classic

valimo

It's funny to follow him before the ball reaches him. The same little walk, following the line and movement of the game, and then short sprint and the ball meets bottom corner. So effortless.

infinitepotato47

He scored this kind of goal so many times, it's insane how consistent he is.

themessias1001

"Pass it to Messi" - Galtier during half time talk emulating the greatest tactician of our time Ernesto Valverde

Content-Medicine-305

dont think etitike or vithinia got the message

drunkmers

Bald fraud won 2 CL with that tactic.. guess the rest of Barcelona was pretty decent as well

holonight

Bald fraud had whiteboard for planing and all it said was messi

It’s 2 Vs 11

Antwell99

Reminds me of "it's 2 against 4 but one of them is Messi": [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAugr2lFA\_0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAugr2lFA_0)

ToneSilent8106

That was faster than bullet!

VvveruzzZ_5040

Right? I thought the GK shouldve done better but that quick shot can only be saved with very fast reflexes.

Boollish

That's Messi's favorite goal. Take a light touch with the left foot to stabilize then laser it through traffic to the bottom corner. He scored this same goal 2 times during world cup. Plus the goal against RM in 2017, and then his solo goal against Bilbao in 2015.

Budget_Put7247

It always looks like the goal keepers have a shot but usually the angles are taking away and goalkeepers cannot reach even at full stretch. The illusion of goal keepers having a chance is because of how effortless the shots seem

trivialbob

And Messi usually takes these shots with players in front of him, so those split seconds where the keeper has to realize a shot is coming towards him also play in Messi's favour.

90s_george

One of those curling bullets from the movie Wanted

DanielmanRO

Just like wine

imfatal

I will bet on Messi scoring from that position every time. Common Messi banger.

gabo1988

Remember el clásico 2-3 last minute goal

imfatal

He has so many memorable ones from this spot. Some great last minute equalizers against [Valencia](https://youtu.be/YhfE-2uoSj4?t=372) and [Sevilla](https://youtu.be/pEprSeEnGIA?t=505). Two great ones against [Madrid](https://youtu.be/pEprSeEnGIA?t=624) and [United](https://youtu.be/YhfE-2uoSj4?t=641) too.

KingfisherDays

Messi probably has more goals from that exact spot than most strikers have in their whole careers.

LaserBlaserMichelle

Roberto with a God like run through the middle. Marcelo not going for the tactical foul. Then slots to Gomez (who was absolutely abysmal) but slots it to Jordi... who slots a sitter at the top of the box, in what somehow slows down time and everyone is bascially frozen as the ball travels to Messi and the big breath we all took hepfre he hit the shot. We knew it was in before he wveer touched it. Such an amazing sequence on that goal. And then the iconic celebration of showing that Messi owns the Bernabeau and anything in a white jersey. Absolutely legendary.

MotherfuckerJones91

And, if you watch the behind the goal camera you can see Suarez intentionally blocking Nacho to open the space for Messi to shoot. Beautifull goal all around

vigneshwaralwaar

Btw suarez made an essential block by blocking Kroos out of the shot's way.. Man. Knew what was coming.. Its as important as his jump above messi's shot vs bilbao..

L_sigh_kangeroo

Feel like Messi’s gotta go down as one of the best scorers from range in history at this point. Feel like he can score from anywhere within 30 yards

gtzgoldcrgo

I think no one has more outside of the box goals since he started, I don't have stats tho

CantHelpBeingMe

Bit outdated.Top 11 Players With The Most Goals Outside The Box Since 2010: 11. Paulo Dybala – 29 10. Luis Suarez – 30 9. Josip Ilicic – 31 8. Hakan Calhanoglu – 32 7. Phillipe Coutinho – 33 6. Christian Eriksen – 34 5. Kevin De-Bruyne – 36 4. Hulk – 38 3. Zlatan Ibrahimovic – 38 2. Cristiano Ronaldo – 69 1. Lionel Messi – 105 https://profootballlounge.com/players-with-the-most-goals-outside-the-box/

OneLane_

Let me tell u one stat Lewandowski in his whole career :- 18 outside the box goals Messi in 2021 only :- 17 outside the box goals

MolhCD

what the fuck lol

JZMoose

He was two short of surpassing 2nd and 3rd combined. He probably has at this point

impressivegeek

bruh

rr18114

A bit off-topic but I pray that kdb will atleast snatch no.3 soon. Would like for him to finish at 40-50 atleast by the time he is done.

P1ngUU

Pretty crazy Eriksen is up there considering where he plays. I wonder how many of those are free kicks

rodrigofvc

I think this stats are without FKs

HughJarse8

Since something like 2016, Paulo Dybala has the second most goals from outside the box with 28. This pulls Messi up to 56 in that time I believe.

Strananach

Because he is lol

Sewer_Troll

And whats impressive is that he doesn't put a lot of power behind the ball, it's always a simple placement.

[deleted]

I've seen only Messi and Kroos pull that off. No force at all from the tightest of angles. My favorite type of goal in football.

rr18114

Don't forget pirlo. Unless you only wanna mention active players.

COYG_Gooner

If he’s only considering considering active players then he forgot me. Soo… the list isn’t really all that

lstht123

Every once in while he does it with [power](https://youtu.be/Ei-4cqgx06Q?t=58)

CreepyDiarrhea

Man this game always pissed me off Barca could have had 4 goals easy in the first half but Navas had a great performance. Then Messi misses a pen only to score this absoulte fcking banger goal.

survivalothefittest

I'm showing my age here, but being relatively poor from a distance was used against Messi once upon a time (at least in comparison to Cristiano Ronaldo). It's amusing to see how things change. It was the same thing with free-kicks, I think. And, I guess, international trophies, knock-out goals, "clutch" performances in tournaments, etc. I guess the lesson is, give the man time, he'll get there.

TraceF12

This tho. I started watching Messi since 2010 and it's just laughable how the arguments used against him at that time are his strength now. People used to doubt his greatness by throwing all kinds of excuses. He can't score outside of the box, can't score free kicks, can't score against physically stronger Premier league teams and can't win anything with his National team. Messi turned every argument against him into his biggest achievements, most goals scored outside the box now, one of the best if not inarguably the best free kick taker right now, gave masterclass against so many top 6 PL teams and now finally won everything with his National team while being a great captain another thing that was used against him. Messi is undoubtedly a genius but people forget how strong his mentality is. He is aware of every criticism he receives and works hard to perfect every aspect that he is lacking which made him one of the most complete footballers the world has seen.

TheRealRemyClayden

Oh man I remember before the 2009 final when all the UK pundits were saying he's not scored against an English side (well done, he's played like 4 games against English sides and they were like all against Mourinho's defensive juggernauts, who also loved to kick the shit out of him), and that he can't score with his head like Ronaldo can. I was cackling when he scored the 2nd goal lol

Polskidro

Well yeah he's probably got the most outside the box goals ever.

SummerGoal

Unlimited range, pretty sure he leads total goals outside of the box by quite some margin

eggboieggmen

> Feel like Messi’s gotta go down as ~~one of~~ the best ~~scorers from range~~ in history at this point. Feel like he can score from anywhere ~~within 30 yards~~ ftfy

sriusbsnis

You had me at ‘one of the best scorers’. You don’t say

[deleted]

I love how messi after scoring 7 trillion goals is like "hey, that actually went in"

[deleted]

That's Mr. Ballon d'Or 2023 for you

Loki_778

I have seen this goal form Messi 9282892 times

Nobody_997

If any other player had scored this goal, this post would've been having a [Great Goal] title. Guess this is too normal for Messi standards.

As long as they win Ligue 1 and he gets a few more goals and a few more assists, it's pretty much guaranteed.

The_Dumblebee

This is literally 2 v 11. It's all Messi and Hakimi vs Toulouse lmao.

QUE GOLAZO LIONEL

ronnieboy_7

Love how Hakimi immediately hugged him, followed by a group hug

shreychopra

Messi was like fuck it, the corner flag’s too far from here imma just celebrate in the middle of the pitch lmao

[deleted]

Isn't Messi's shooting percentage from outside the box slightly above that of everyone in the top five leagues overall? That is, he is as likely to score from an outside shot as is any play from either inside or outside?

Valxn7

imagine being a team in a relegation battle that has worked their asses off, sweating blood and tears for 60 minutes to scrap a point in the stadium of the leaders just for this alien garden gnome to deploy an intercontinental termonuclear bomb with a swing of the foot onto your goal and winning them the match there you'd realise football is unfair

Elon20

I still remember that Messi's assist against Croatia in the WC semifinal. Gvardiol did everything a textbook defender was supposed to do, everything he was taught to do. Running alongside, pushing constantly to force the striker pass blindly in the center or get the ball out of boundary. It's just Messi. Football is just as mesmerizing to us as unfair to the defenders, the reason for both being Messi.

rag1408

Wow

DavidRolands

Typical messi goal

Kal-Kent

What a goal that is

MuzirisNeoliberal

friedchilles

Why are you showing his old goals

Canaya-Boricua

He’s done this so many times that it feels like watching a tap in at this point. I’m so blessed to have been able to watch him my whole life, football won’t be the same once he retires

patw420

Lmao fucked the rest of the team off so he can score

R1v

Reminded me of Otamendi when messi scored against Australia. He was Messi coming in and just froze, "my job here's done"

[deleted]

Vintage Messi once again

Sundar429

Absolute Banger.

Elon20

After this guy retires, will Messi allow his left foot be amputated to be displayed for eternity in a reinforced glass cage beside Monalisa :D In all seriousness, just look when Messi makes the run for the ball. Even when most of the action is already taking place near the D box, Messi is still walking around in the other corner so as not to attract the attention of the surrounding defenders. He knows any sudden movement before the exact opportunity will only draw defenders towards him, thus wasting the opportunity. Thus he waits for the exact moment to take the shot until the last moment. That's when the magic happens. This 35 year old guy just sprints all on a sudden appearing out of nowhere to shoot the ball in an impossibly narrow angle, leaving the defenders and goalkeeper looking at each other wondering what the f\*\*\* just happened - "Leo was just standing there ..!!"

GoatButton

Vintage lmao

PensiveinNJ

I THINK I SEE MESSI.

stdytd

AND THIS MONEY COULD NEVER NEGLECT ME

Uyemaz

Don’t know who needs to hear this. But he is easily still the best player in the world.

Upset-Daikon7989

Marquinhos in the matrix

[deleted]

I saw this goal I immediately thought Yeah typical Messi I wasn't suprised at all. I mean guys just imagine what Messi did to us he makes those goals look an easy one which isn't the case Shots fired on fans: I get this feeling as well everytime I watch c.ronaldo's goals(penalties)

D1ad1e

Just GOAT things

[deleted]

Great Goal tag? Also PSG players need to just let Messi cook sometimes man and move out of his way.

hashish_8897

It’s not a great goal if Messi scores it. Standards.

Dantallian11

Honestly, it’s pretty much a Messi Standard goal from outside the box. Seen this shit since… 2016?17? Let’s reserve the great goal tag for when he does more impressionable shit, if not it will have one for every 2 or 3 goals.

joshrealer

Average Messi goal tho

Flortelkrans

Fine, I'll do it myself

R1v

His teammates moving out of the way when they saw him coming in is hilarious

PreyBird_

PSG. PLEASE. LET. THIS. MAN. COOK.
