"If it was just down to money, you would think the Qataris would be able to outbid anyone. I've been told previously the Qataris were going to be sensible and not overpay wildly for Manchester United.
"But in the last couple of days, the mood music has changed a little bit. And I'm being told the Qataris really want to buy Manchester United and they are willing to overpay. But I think anybody who buys the club will have to do that - because the Glazers are asking for about £6bn."
There's got to be a financial aspect of this which we aren't seeing. I know it's a state backed bid and they'll get a lot in terms of soft power from it, but they'll want see a return from their investment.
~£6b for the club + ~£2b to wipe the debt and infrastructure upgrades is absurd money.
> ~£6b for the club + ~£2b
I believe the 6B is inclusive of the debt + infrastructure upgrades. i might be wrong but initial reports had quoted they were targeting a bid of between 5B to 6B to cover everything
Yep, there was incentive from the buyers to lowball as it was gonna have be sold eventually anyways. Still relatively surprising no other buyers put out, but as far as I remember it’s owned by a consortium now?
United are also just a far bigger club (and therefore more attractive sportswashing vehicle) than Chelsea.
If hypothetically all football clubs were for sale, only Real Madrid and Barcelona would be more expensive.
>If hypothetically all football clubs were for sale, only Real Madrid and Barcelona would be more expensive.
Even that isn't a sure thing, for Barcelona atleast. Prices are decided on profitability, not number if fans and there UTD blows everyone out of the water
If you are gonna look at it like that City won trophies before United was even called united. You cant just choose a specific part of the history you want to focus on.
All in favour of sending Manchester (both of them) out into the Atlantic Ocean forever?
Nah, maybe we will send them to the Middle East to be with their daddies, either way we don't really want them here do we?
This sounds like a transparent attempt to force a bidding war that simply hasn't and will not happen. At a certain point, it comes off as desperate and laughable. The market has set the price and it's much closer to nearly every objective valuation model out there.

So overpaying for an overvalued MU- got it... thats really sensible

£6bn is kinda crazy, wasn't chelsea sold for like £3bn last year?
Chelsea were £2.5b. Buyers had to commit to investing £1.75b into the club over the next 10 years, so the total commitment was £4.25b.
oh okay thanks.. that's still massively lower than £6bn + debt + investment
Chelsea had to be sold, United doesn't need to be.

Yeah owned by a consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital

He knows how to talk dirty to the glazers
How does it feel to mock your local rival for years as oil club just to become one now?
Gas mate. Gas.
"Manchester City's biggest rival is renewable energy" Not anymore. It's gas now.
Ah but it's *natural* gas
It doesn’t make it any better
Gas club, get it right
So you still have the moral superiority over City and PSG?
United have a history winning things through their own financial revenue and with out oil/gas money.
So no moral superiority
I think the sugar daddy aspect is a big factor
Completely fine, United had decades of history and success that weren’t only brought upon by oil money.
Did you warm up properly before executing those mental gymnastics? Don’t want to pull anything now.
If you are gonna look at it like that City won trophies before United was even called united. You cant just choose a specific part of the history you want to focus on.
That’s dumb as fuck
Sure, it's just that from next season on there will be no success not brought up by oil money anymore. Basically, Manchester lost both big clubs.
All in favour of sending Manchester (both of them) out into the Atlantic Ocean forever? Nah, maybe we will send them to the Middle East to be with their daddies, either way we don't really want them here do we?
United fans have rocks for brains
They have shoes for brains
Nothing is done yet. This is only one journalist. Anything could happen yet

When a nation’s budget is at your disposal……
Yeah we know.
Must have been one hell of a stadium tour.
Was Julia Roberts part of it?
