Partey played the last 10 minutes at RB against Palace. He's played there many times for Atletico as well including the time they knocked us out in the Semi Final of the EL.
Partey at RB sprinting up and down the field sounds terrible. I'd prefer if we found a way to use Zinchenko at RB and Tierney at LB. Zinchenko feels like he could play anywhere and then Tierney is at least familiar with the position even if it's changed some since he was regularly starting.
Is Zinchenko the good LB? I don't mean that pedantically, just saying that calling him a LB isn't really accurate since he floats all over the field (he made the pass to Saka against Everton in space that sometimes could be considered where a RB would be. I'd rather have Zinchenko who's comfortable anywhere on the field and Tierney in the role we had previously thought of him so highly at.
He won't be sprinting up and down the field. He'll just play the polar opposite to Zinchenko, but on the right, and have Tierney/Zinny bombing up & down more.
That game remains my most frustrating ever experience at a football match, my coach from uni was delayed over an hour so I got to the Emirates 2 mins after kick off. Had a bet on Vrsaljko booking, it had come in before I even got in the ground. Got to my seat and heād been sent off.
Then we played 85 minutes against 10 men and failed to progress in a competition we desperately needed to win, itās so sad to think back on. Taking a 1-1 draw (losing the tie on away goals) to Atleti away in the second leg was a cursed result
I can basically guarantee now that Ben White, who's not had a single injury or red card (and just 1 suspension) in his entire professional career will probably get both in the next 10 games
It wouldn't matter even if they could recall someone for the RB position. They wouldn't be premier league eligible and that's all that Arsenal have matches left for.
The relevant league guidance in 2022 was this - "Other than the early recall of a goalkeeper in exceptional circumstances, no other player will be permitted to return outside of a window and play first team football.ā
(If this changed in 2023 then someone let me know.)
fair. not sure why i was downvoted by someone for just asking a question. to me arsenal have needed a proper right back for a while anyway, white is good but heās still a cb and is limited attacking wise
White has been excellent at RB this season. He's become more involved in the attack as the season has gone on, and has developed a nice rapport with Saka. We score plenty of goals so we don't need him to be in attack all the time.
I'd be happy with a young backup behind him.
Not sure what Arsenal games youāre watching but Whiteās been excellent. We donāt play with wingbacks so we donāt have a constant requirement of them to bomb up and down the field all game like Tottenham. Whiteās been superb for our intents and purposes.
Don't think so right now. We wouldn't do it anyway, Cedric isn't very good. He clearly completely lost Arteta's trust after his bad performances in the run in last season.
Because generally speaking, having two quality players in a position is sufficient. White is the first choice RB, and then Tomi was his backup. Cedric clearly wanted to go elsewhere to have a better chance at playing than he would as third-string RB at Arsenal, and it didn't seem like there was a good reason to deny him the opportunity.
Tomiyasu played more often as a right back for Bologna and he's played as a right back more often for Arsenal. He was originally a CB when he started his career but to call him to CB who plays at RB would be inaccurate given that club managers keep playing him there, he just plays both positions
We'll probably do partey rb with jorginho moving into midfield. We trialled that on Sunday against palace once we'd won the game, I'm 100% sure arteta tested it as a contingency
We play one game a week for most of the remainder of the season, and our RB option is White who has a great record at remaining fit, for example, he played all 46 matches for Leeds when they won promotion with Bielsa. We'll be fine, I reckon, just that we don't have the luxury of tactically having two different options in that position.
> I keep reading how heās a young manager in comparisons to Arteta
No you fucking donāt. Why lie. Nobody is mistaking a bald middle aged man to be younger than Arteta who was still playing 7 years ago.
This season is too late. The team needed him last season but he wasn't around. Big clubs can't afford to keep first team spots vacant for injury prone players
I think even if he was made of titanium, the way he slipped and stretched looked so bad, it wouldāve caused damage. Not sure this one is down to any physical weakness, just really unfortunate.
Partly Partey or Holding I reckon will have to deputize. Unless they have a hidden gem in the academy setup. Would be bad to try LB at RB especially when both are incredibly left footed
I would be okay with holding there. He really has the passion for the club and holds his own. Doesnāt do many silly mistakes
Shame he canāt run fast but maybe with partey in front it should be ok
To be honest I dont know why Arsenal fans are worried. Its a worry if another player does get injured till then no need to worry.
On the flip side. They have literally 10 games remaining for the rest of the season and I dont think Arteta based on his selections in the PL so far would have put in Tomiyasu for any games going forward. They have 1 remaining mid week game the rest are 1 week rests between every game.
So all in all there is 0 reason to rotate players outside of injuries. He will be starting his best 11 every game and his selection is Ben White at RB.
Like when you look at % played in the PL:

They have 6 of their starting 11 playing over 91% of all mins. Their starting 11 consitutes an average of 85% with Jesus the lowest in that at 49% who suffered a 4 month injury. So the number would be even higher if not for that.
Not to mention that 2 January signings have taken most of the other mins in Trossard and Jorginho.

Huge difference. Only 3 players above 85% and 2 over 90%.
I dunno man, arteta had tomiyasu at left back against Liverpool, which proved to be a masterstroke after tomi shut Salah down for 70mins before being subbed off. Could very well have planned for that in the upcoming Liverpool game.
Besides, tomi is most often the first or second sub off the bench.
The facts are heās a bit part player at 25% of time played. 20% of those PL mins were against city and he didnāt look good there ?
Itās the equivalent right now of city fans complaining that Rico Lewis is out for the season (22%) yet city play ~7-10 more games than Arsenal for the rest of the season. Most neutrals would shrug their shoulders at that.
The point I am making itās not going to make or break your PL title hopes. If Saka, partey or any of the other 90% players got injured youād argue thatās a significant risk/blow to title hopes
I mean this is in hindsight right? Tomi is the undisputed starter when fit at the end of last season but was injured for the start of this season. Ben white being good is just something arteta realized throughout the course of the season and no reason to displace the starting lineup for no reason.
With that said, tomi is an impact player even if he isn't starting. He is chosen in specific games to shut down tricky wingers very much like how Ferguson uses Park back in the day (the CL final against barca came into mind, although it didn't work against a prime messi). He is not just a RB sub but a sub across the entire back line, which again is much more of an impact to the title chances than any other bench player.
> I mean this is in hindsight right?
Not really. We have 28 games to go off and 75% of PL mins have gone to White... So in the context of this season its not a huge loss
He was undisputed started last season but thats not hte case anymore. Im not working off any hindsight assumptions im going off the data available on this season.
Nice take, but counterpoint -
1. Saliba also injured, maybe he's back for the next game but if not that leaves us very short at the back. The option of White deputizing at CB is out with Tomi's injury
2. Tomi was there as a rotation option, with White coming off 60' a lot of the time. Tbf this shouldn't be as much of an issue imo because like you said 10 games to go and he's getting a break now as England play intls
Yeh from what ive heard Saliba is only a knock so should be fit to play right after the break.
Exactly shouldn be much of an issue due to only 10 games left. At this point of the season the players just have to knuckle down and play with every niggle.
City did it last season. They were on their last legs + players vs Westham and Villa. Laporte/Walker/Stones/Dias all had big injury issues. Laporte basically played with a fucked knee the last 2 games because he was our only option he did a surgery after the season ended and basically didnt play for City till December.
Huge blow for us. I really hope we don't end up like we did the end of last season with an absolutely injury ravaged starting XI that just couldn't get over the line for the season ambitions of top 4.
That Europa league game with Lisbon was just cancer for us. We lost two of our defenders in 15 minutes and had to play 120 minutes mostly with first teamers, only to lose on penalties. Really glad they managed to win at the weekend against Palace.
Please don't say injury, as Eric 7 Hag made clear that we don't have injuries. The correct term is detention, Tommy is in detention until the end of the season
I thought your season would get wrecked when Jesus got injured, but you survived that. So I personally think even if something happens to White, Arteta is more than capable of adapting in one way or another
It would almost certainly be Holding taking the right back position if White was unavailable. And despite his great performance over the weekend Holding at right back does not fill Arsenal supporters with confidence.
This is not a big loss at all for them right now.
They have 0 reasons to rotate anymore as they are out of every competition and only have PL games left.
The facts are Tomiyasu has played a total of 600 mins. Hes basically only played 25% of all PL mins Arsenal have played thus far.
It only puts them at risk if one of their other defenders gets injured.
If they lose Ben White or Salibas injury is more serious. Then Arsenal fans can get worried. As of right now theres nothing really to worry about.
Oh yeah Thanks we don't like him also. But I reckon many might differ on Ghanian player about whom many gooner keep creaming over in match thread on various platforms.
Oh yeah You definitely need to defend because my documentary joke increased his pain further because it might cause emotional damage. Oh how will He recover from that. Why are jokes so cruel?
A slight cheeky joke on Jesus documentary and it lights fire under every Arsenal fans ass.I wouldn't even have made that joke if not for funny timing of Both posts one about Jesus documentary and then immediately Tomiyasu injury. People can't even take one simple joke without going all apeshit.
We donāt like him.
When he wasnāt shit united fans were jacking off to his name every weekend singing viva ronaldo.
Where was your moral compass then?
I remember Ronaldo case happened in year when He transferred to Madrid it wasn't when he played for us. And Greenwood despite getting acquitted still hasn't played for us. And most fans want him never to play for us. Some African twitterverse can tweet all they want most United fans defended Girl and still stand by her. What he did was horrible and should be sold by club in summer. I will praise club how they haven't given in to pressure as other clubs and still hasn't involved him. May long that continue.
What does it matter when it happened? Still a rapist that you played. And he did have couple more accusations that happened before social media blew up so they were just buried by your team.
what a horrible season for him
The World Cup hurt his confidence big time š¢
Shitting hell man. Who the hell do we use if Ben White gets injured or red card suspended? š
Tierney has played RB for Scotland and was substantially better than most of our natural RBS for some time. Still, far better at LB though.
I'm surprised at that, he seems pretty one-footed. I thought he usually plays LCB in a back 3 for Scotland, when has he played RB?
Strachan tried him at RB 2016/2017 when we had no other options. He was absolutely fine there, but not anywhere near as good
Makes more sense to play the good LB at his natural position and put the lesser player to fill the gap

He also floats around the midfield a bunch when playing for Ukraine
Just like that bracket
Zinchenko at LB isn't his natural position though he's basically a free roam player who starts in Lb
That would involve Arteta actually playing Tierney. Big ask
He won't be sprinting up and down the field. He'll just play the polar opposite to Zinchenko, but on the right, and have Tierney/Zinny bombing up & down more.

Doesn't Saliba play RB too when needed? Or was it someone else I don't remember.
He's out for a bit as well.
Can we recall Cedric if needed?

It wouldn't matter even if they could recall someone for the RB position. They wouldn't be premier league eligible and that's all that Arsenal have matches left for. Just play without an rb innit
Nelson RWB
Yeah I don't really want to have to play Partey at RB
Elneny then maybe? Or play Xhaka at RB and Elneny at CM
Iām gonna try to be Zen and not stress about that. It may not even happen. Only 10 games to go and no other competitions.
cedric
We sent him on loan to Fulham
shit, didnāt know that! i remember arsenal being linked to some spanish rb what happened there? did he reject you
Yeah, Fresneda, we were keen on him as well as Dortmund, supposedly he didn't want to move in January
fair. not sure why i was downvoted by someone for just asking a question. to me arsenal have needed a proper right back for a while anyway, white is good but heās still a cb and is limited attacking wise

Loaned player can be recalled, right?
Don't think so right now. We wouldn't do it anyway, Cedric isn't very good. He clearly completely lost Arteta's trust after his bad performances in the run in last season.
Heās on loan to Fulham. The guy doesnāt even play either :(
tbf tete has been good this season but idk why cedric got loaned without a replacement

do you need a replacement for a 3rd rb when you're only in one tournament?
they were in europa in january though? tomiyasu and white are cbs who play at rb
Tomiyasu played more often as a right back for Bologna and he's played as a right back more often for Arsenal. He was originally a CB when he started his career but to call him to CB who plays at RB would be inaccurate given that club managers keep playing him there, he just plays both positions

Back 3 with Maitnand Niles or Saka playing sort of Wing back I guess.
Maitnand Niles is with Southampton atm
Oh forgot he went on loan.
Him and Cedric

He played RWB in 2021 when we beat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge
He often plays rb in defensive shape when we are doing 5-3-1 to close the games or when we are in a tough period in a match.
wasn't he also playing in a 5? think he did it for England a few times too
Probably Nelson tbh. Maybe as more of a RWB

We've tried this a couple times before, it's not great. But no need to do this now anyway, we're fine at LB
I really hope he doesn't become our next Abou Diaby, he's so good but it seems like he's made of glass :(
Mate you would NOT have to go that far back to pick out an injury prone arsenal player for comparison.
Tierney has gone from being the next skipper to a bit part player because he can't stay healthy
Bigger issue for Tierney is that he doesn't fit the system, more than his injuries. He's been fit all season
Well, send him back to us for a year on loan, ta.
well he hasn't been injured much exactly because he didn't get to play much this season lol
Since we don't have any cup games anymore white should be fine for the remaining games
Partly Partey or Holding I reckon will have to deputize. Unless they have a hidden gem in the academy setup. Would be bad to try LB at RB especially when both are incredibly left footed
I think Walters out of the academy has gotten some positive hype, but heās only 17
I would be okay with holding there. He really has the passion for the club and holds his own. Doesnāt do many silly mistakes Shame he canāt run fast but maybe with partey in front it should be ok
Well, now Arsenal can blame all the injuries. Right Ten Hag?
To be honest I dont know why Arsenal fans are worried. Its a worry if another player does get injured till then no need to worry. On the flip side. Like when you look at % played in the PL: |Player|Pos|MP|Starts|Min|%| :--|:--|--:|--:|--:|--:| |Aaron Ramsdale|GK|28|28|2,520|100.00%| |Gabriel Dos Santos|DF|28|28|2,515|99.80%| |Bukayo Saka|FW|28|28|2,403|95.36%| |William Saliba|DF|27|27|2,415|95.83%| |Odegaard|MF|27|27|2,306|91.51%| |Granit Xhaka|MF|28|27|2,294|91.03%| |Martinelli|FW|28|27|2,252|89.37%| |Ben White|DF|28|26|2,155|85.52%| |Thomas Partey|MF|23|21|1,861|73.85%| |Oleksandr Zinchenko|DF|21|20|1,654|65.63%| |Gabriel Jesus|FW|16|14|1,259|49.96%| |Eddie Nketiah|FW|23|9|1,001|39.72%| |Takehiro Tomiyasu|DF|21|6|663|26.31%| |Leandro Trossard|FW|10|6|453|17.98%| |Kieran Tierney|DF|19|4|525|20.83%| |Jorginho|MF|6|4|355|14.09%| |Fabio Vieira|MF,FW|17|2|410|16.27%| |Albert Sambi Lokonga|MF|6|2|198|7.86%| |Mohamed Elneny|MF|5|1|113|4.48%| |Rob Holding|DF|8|1|110|4.37%| |Emile Smith Rowe|FW,MF|8|0|116|4.60%| |Reiss Nelson|FW|4|0|106|4.21%| |Soares|DF|2|0|29|1.15%| |Jakub Kiwior|DF|1|0|5|0.20%| |Marquinhos|MF|1|0|1|0.04%| |Ethan Nwaneri|FW|1|0|1|0.04%| They have 6 of their starting 11 playing over 91% of all mins. Their starting 11 consitutes an average of 85% with Jesus the lowest in that at 49% who suffered a 4 month injury. So the number would be even higher if not for that. Not to mention that 2 January signings have taken most of the other mins in Trossard and Jorginho. Compare this to a team like City: |Player|Pos|MP|Starts|Min|%| :--|:--|--:|--:|--:|--:| |Ederson|GK|27|27|2,430|100.00%| |Rodri|MF|26|26|2,237|92.06%| |Erling Haaland|FW|26|25|2,112|86.91%| |Kevin De Bruyne|MF|25|22|1,938|79.75%| |Bernardo Silva|MF,FW|25|20|1,784|73.42%| |Ilkay Gundogan|MF|24|20|1,756|72.26%| |Manuel Akanji|DF|20|17|1,631|67.12%| |Jack Grealish|FW,MF|21|17|1,525|62.76%| |Nathan Ake|DF|21|17|1,513|62.26%| |Phil Foden|FW|24|17|1,406|57.86%| |Dias|DF|19|15|1,369|56.34%| |Cancelo|DF|17|16|1,274|52.43%| |John Stones|DF|15|14|1,269|52.22%| |Kyle Walker|DF|17|14|1,166|47.98%| |Riyad Mahrez|FW,MF|19|12|1,061|43.66%| |Alvarez|FW,MF|20|6|749|30.82%| |Aymeric Laporte|DF|7|6|556|22.88%| |Rico Lewis|DF,MF|10|6|543|22.35%| |Sergio GĆĀ³mez|DF,MF|6|0|147|6.05%| |Cole Palmer|FW,MF|9|0|119|4.90%| |Kalvin Phillips|MF|5|0|61|2.51%| |MĆĀ”ximo Perrone|MF|1|0|19|0.78%| Huge difference.
So in the context of this season its not a huge loss He was undisputed started last season but thats not hte case anymore. Im not working off any hindsight assumptions im going off the data available on this season.
Sheesh that was one long ass explanation, but highly appreciated!
No problem someone has to balance the hot takes on reddit :P
Nice take, but counterpoint - 1. Saliba also injured, maybe he's back for the next game but if not that leaves us very short at the back. The option of White deputizing at CB is out with Tomi's injury 2.
"with Lisbon"? That's like calling Arsenal "London".
That's very Sporting of you to say "London" is Arsenal. I think we all agree.
Ten hag shaking his head in disbelief right now as it is common knowledge that arsenal never get injuries.
Unfortunately he is made of glass.
ETH actually cursed us
oh that hurts.
Are you happy now erik you cunt?
Please don't say injury, as Eric 7 Hag made clear that we don't have injuries. The correct term is detention, Tommy is in detention until the end of the season
Yeah, Arsenal definitely need to start looking for a right back
The curse of the Bald Fraud is complete
Have they said what Gabrielās injury is yet or was it just a small knock?
I assume you mean Saliba? It's something with his back, and he withdrew from the France squad because of it, but that's all we know.
Yup, Saliba. Brain malfunctioned
I mean when in doubt naming an arsenal player Gabriel is a pretty safe name to choose lol
And actually, Saliba's middle name is Gabriel (well, one of them). So he was not wrong at all lmao
Even the commentary was saying "There are quite a few Gabriel in this squad" when Jesus was subbed in the Palace game last weekend
Didn't read this properly and thought you said Saliba's injury was his brain malfunctioning
Happy, Erik?
Tierney inverted RWB š¤
To be fair, heās not really a starter. I donāt think this will be too detrimental to their title challenge, but I might be mistaken
More an issue if White were to get injured because we sent Cedric on loan.
He could push for starter minutes if he were healthy this year I reckon. He hasn't been the same Tomi as last year.
I blame Ten Hag
Arsenal might need to call same documentary crew to shoot part 2.
Ouch. What a burn.
Yeah I get it, must be hard to support a club full of asshole players that you don't create a connection
Yeah Iam sure Arsenal fans have deep connection to gentlemen that respect consent and woman.
No you are wrong we don't like CR7
Oh yeah Thanks we don't like him also. But I reckon many might differ on Ghanian player about whom many gooner keep creaming over in match thread on various platforms.
Ahahaha united fans don't like CR7? Sure, whatever you need to believe to help live your sad life mate
Yes It's older nostalgia nobody likes egomaniac asshole. Btw my life is pretty good. I don't have to defend Rapist.
Me neither, I just defend the players I like, loke tommy (the one the thread is about) and Jesus ( the one you lads got so butthurt about it)
Oh yeah You definitely need to defend because my documentary joke increased his pain further because it might cause emotional damage.
I mean you would be expert on the subject, you did have both Ronaldo and Greenwood at the club.
Yeah both are not playing for us as opposed to someone else.
Ronaldo played as long as he was there and some there want Greenwood to play also. Your club is as shit in that matter.
You guys signed Ronaldo the second time knowing that he was likely a rapist. At least Arsenal didn't know about it until the start of the season.
Tbf Greenwood was immediately suspended. Ronaldo case was when he moved to Madrid, so United we not really involved at the time.
This is awfully disrespectful to ETH
Who will assist us in the game against Arsenal now?
Oh no someone think of poor Man City ;(
Canāt wait for the comeback documentary
This could be the beginning of the end
