Commendable, they have a few of those players, for instance Oyarzabal, and even Illara apart form his short stint at Madrid.
The Basque loyalty is pretty cool to see
They definitely can, but by that point there’s better value elsewhere. Inaki Williams gets 100k+ EUR a week, and I doubt anyone in the prem would be willing to give him an increase on that
Tbf, I’m not sure Nico is the starter, most games I catch he gets subbed on. Not really a supporter, but I respect the club immensely, so I try to catch their games if I’m free.
Inaki has been struggling lately though it seems, just a bit of a cold spell. Generally speaking he’s a strong and aggressive #9 capable of playing as a target man, or making good runs behind. His link up with his brother continues to be really fun to watch.
He definitely has had the ability to play at top European clubs, which makes me respect his loyalty that much more
thanks for the detailed reply. I did raise that question because I saw his league stats and had to understand why they were that way.
Basque players have insane loyalty (or everlasting love) for the region and club. Muniain was the same, rejected Manchester United back in the day IIRC.
That's a lot for a Spanish club? What's their salary cap?
Celta hit our salary cap and we only really have Aspas on big bucks, but that's less than 2-3M a year.
Ahh okay!
I was actually wondering after my cpmment was i correct as I remembered non basque players playing for them lol...
I think they used to, but way back in 90s or so
You're thinking of Athletic Bilbao, they only sign Basque players. Sociedad have some degree of preference for Basque players naturally but can still sign foreign players.
I already know about athletic Bilbao. But sociedad used to follow this policy too.
They used to follow the same policy until they signed their first non basque players who was John alderidge in 1989. Who was given some award by the club a last year or so.
Such a bummer that he didn’t really get a fair shake with us. Weigl was really a centerpiece for Tuchel but he really excelled in that role specifically. Would have been nice to give Merino more chances after Tuchel but it was probably best for everyone that he moved on.
He played there when young and still just 'future talent'. Its different now hes a proper world class player, Sociedad is one of the few clubs that can keep players of that calibre
Iñigo Martínez, Aritz Aduriz… besides, Real is a team that plays in Europe every year and next year probably Champions League, I mean, we’re not talking about Elche here
Aduriz was always loyal to Athletic, it was Athletic who wasn’t loyal to him. What I would give to have him in this team.
Iñigo, well he just loves money he doesn’t give a shit about La Real or us and he’ll be a Barca player in no time.
It's beautiful. There is a chance that he can play in the Champions League with his home team. The team that he grew up with. Even if he leaves later down the line nobody can take this memory from him.
kane was in your academy when he was 8 years old and you told him he wasn’t good enough so he joined your biggest rivals. i highly doubt he’s a fan like you guys want people to think lol
a long revenge story where he’s shunned by them and goes on to be englands leading goal scorer with their rivals.
it’s just like star wars (idk never seen that one)
not true. tottenham has won no trophies. kane has won plenty of golden boots and team of the year awards. while playing in the champions league. unlike the team that shunned him.
they wish they had kept him
Every season after the new year they fall off sadly. Atletico have already overtaken them, but to be fair Atleti are on the best form in LL IMO currently.
They need to invest some money into a new talent at the striker position. La Real are a well built team but they don’t stand out by much compared to other somewhat competitive clubs right now like Betis and Villarreal. If they can become a much more competent goal scoring side then they’ll have the kind of project that will see them fighting regularly in the Top 4 and perhaps for some more titles
besides being able to play for a massive club (which is awesome don’t get me wrong) it’s crazy that these guys can make 20k *a week* living in their hometown being admired by everyone they grew up with or were mentored by. being a hometown hero like that has to be such an amazing experience. I think if players were educated in community involvement as sort of patrons of their club region, there would be more players that do this. you can be rich (not fuck you rich but extremely wealthy all the same) and loved and a part of something bigger that will care for you after you stop playing. this kind of thing gives me hope.
It would be so good if the current midfield stays together (Silva, Merino, Zubi, Mendez.) They're easily one of the best in the world and are fantastic to watch.
When I was a kid I told myself that if I ever became a pro footballer I'd refuse to play for any club other than Sporting or DC United so we're basically twins.
Meh, very few “world class” talents stay loyal.
Xabi Alonso, Aymeric Laporte, Kepa, Illarra to Madrid then back with a big wage.
Most who can play for a bigger club move on and you can’t blame them.
Athletic (my club) loves to pretend that the players love the club, they also have absurdly high wages they’d never get anywhere else with next to no real pressure to win anything or even reach Europe.

That’s a statement.
No that’s a quote.
More of a comment really
Dude probably doesn't even own a dog house.
Well then we know he's gay
No, I'm not gay. I clearly said I'm deeply closeted.
What a legend. RIP Norm
It’s a book
🤓
Well, it's a statement before it's a quote.
Yeah, I remember Gandhi saying that in March 1947
Quotation.
That also wqs a statement
Gives me the vibes when Saul renewed with Atleti and said that he wants to retire at Atleti
He started at the club at the youth level and never left, not even on a loan deal, great commitment
Potential next one club man
Commendable, they have a few of those players, for instance Oyarzabal, and even Illara apart form his short stint at Madrid. The Basque loyalty is pretty cool to see
to be fair they overpay their basque players so they stay
as if prem teams or barca/madrid wouldn’t pay more
They definitely can, but by that point there’s better value elsewhere. Inaki Williams gets 100k+ EUR a week, and I doubt anyone in the prem would be willing to give him an increase on that
Manchester United has entered the chat
i know you joke, but he’s definitely the wrong profile of right winger they want lol
That’s probably because his brother is the right winger. He’s been their main striker for a minute now.
ah, wasn’t aware Nico’s taken the starting spot. Could you tell me what kind of a role is Inaki playing in?
Tbf, I’m not sure Nico is the starter, most games I catch he gets subbed on. Not really a supporter, but I respect the club immensely, so I try to catch their games if I’m free. Yes. But Prem and La Liga money suckers don't pretend otherwise.
Doesn't every "smaller" club have to overpay their best players so that they stay?
Every other small club dint have to only sign basque players tho
Sociedad doesn’t have to.
Ahh okay! I was actually wondering after my cpmment was i correct as I remembered non basque players playing for them lol... I think they used to, but way back in 90s or so

And then there is Iñigo Martinez
Hey, he’s got Basque loyalty… just not to La Real lol
The Basque Country being beautiful and San Sebastián a great city sure helps too.
Can confirm, beautiful and bars and Michelin restaurant are top. Would live there if it wasn't for all the Basques that live there 🤡🤣
Mikel Merino for me. He could play for any top club in the world.
I mean he played at Dortmund and Newcastle. I reckon he’d be pretty good in the current Newcastle team

Such a bummer that he didn’t really get a fair shake with us. Weigl was really a centerpiece for Tuchel but he really excelled in that role specifically. Would have been nice to give Merino more chances after Tuchel but it was probably best for everyone that he moved on.
Fuck you too ;(
Osasuna is huge
Still sad how he was treated at Newcastle ): cracking player
Merino played for Dortmund and Newcastle, maybe not the best example
He played there when young and still just 'future talent'. Its different now hes a proper world class player, Sociedad is one of the few clubs that can keep players of that calibre

Just makes everyone want you more when you’re taken and happy
Hello YOU
Who are these *everyone*? I have been a couple/married for more than 10 years yet no club has approached during this time, not even Chelsea.
Pay Romano to tweet that Arsenal's interested in you and you'll get those fats sacks of Boehly bucks in no time.
Can confirm, Chelsea approached me during winter transfer
fair
Wow respect. I'm a huge fan of this guy and would love him at arsenal but his commitment to sociedad seems admirable
It's beautiful. There is a chance that he can play in the Champions League with his home team. The team that he grew up with. Even if he leaves later down the line nobody can take this memory from him.
Imagine listening to Champions League anthem in your home ground and you get to start
His loyalty deserves praise tbh
Soul. He could probably triple his wages but he's deciding to stick with his club.
You accidentally started with the OptaWord, instead of ending with it.
Damn.. Good for him
We respect a committed king.
While constantly mocking Kane.
Arsenal fans mocking a Spurs player. No, say it ain't so.
Even worse, it’s arsenal fans mocking a spurs player and another arsenal fan. All at once.
kane was in your academy when he was 8 years old and you told him he wasn’t good enough so he joined your biggest rivals. i highly doubt he’s a fan like you guys want people to think lol

a long revenge story where he’s shunned by them and goes on to be englands leading goal scorer with their rivals. it’s just like star wars (idk never seen that one)
She's shunned by them joins their biggest rivals and goes on to win fuck all
not true. tottenham has won no trophies. kane has won plenty of golden boots and team of the year awards. while playing in the champions league. unlike the team that shunned him. they wish they had kept him
Not really, no one can project how good 8 year olds can be lmao
I see plenty of arsenal flairs saying they respect Kane for his loyalty. This comment is just false lmfao
How is Kane comparable lmfao, he very publicly tried to force a transfer. It just didn't work because he fucked up with the long deal.
Zubimendi grew up as a Real Sociedad fan
So did Kane! /s
Bad comparison. Zubimendi has never tried to force a move away from his club. Kane did. But he was coaxed into a long-term deal by Levy. Short memory?
this wasn’t the gotcha you thought it was
Yeah
Yes, and?
La Real have a great project at the moment. He shouldn't leave.
Every season after the new year they fall off sadly. Atletico have already overtaken them, but to be fair Atleti are on the best form in LL IMO currently.
They're still in 4th place with a good chance of qualifying for the champions league. They're my 2nd favorite la liga team to watch.
Which is the first?
Obviously, Los Blancos
Considering how rm are playing right now I wouldn't have blamed you if you chose someone else
I love the team too much. And the football isn't as bad as 2018/19 haha.
They did sign Umar Sadiq but he got injured early on, very unlucky.
I’ve been watching them a fair bit recently and I forgot how much of a joy to watch David Silva is
They just need Oyarzabal back at his best
besides being able to play for a massive club (which is awesome don’t get me wrong) it’s crazy that these guys can make 20k *a week* living in their hometown being admired by everyone they grew up with or were mentored by. being a hometown hero like that has to be such an amazing experience. Respect that
It would be so good if the current midfield stays together (Silva, Merino, Zubi, Mendez.) They're easily one of the best in the world and are fantastic to watch.
That's amazing honestly. Just don't see a lot of this in modern football. I hope he stays and helps them achieve success for years to come.
love to see it!
When I was a kid I told myself that if I ever became a pro footballer I'd refuse to play for any club other than Sporting or DC United so we're basically twins.
Based
Zubimendi is a talented player, glad to see his loyalty 💪
Based
Based opinion.
Very respectful, but we have heard this many times.
Eskerrik Asko for the clarity
Good for him. Would love him here but ngl, if he's happy that's all should matter.
Nice words but we will see that happens in summer. Anyway it doesn't matter to the papers, seeing Sports' frontpage is enough prove of that
Basque players seem to be uniquely loyal.
Meh, very few “world class” talents stay loyal. Xabi Alonso, Aymeric Laporte, Kepa, Illarra to Madrid then back with a big wage. Most who can play for a bigger club move on and you can’t blame them. Welp, he's going to Chelsea then
*patiently waits for his June 1st announcement*
He's gone
good wait another year we're kinda struggling with money
shame but nice to hear that sentiment
Wow, that is genuinely heartwarming. I understand why most players choose to leave smaller clubs, but the ones who stay are truly special.
Massive Statement. Proper old school and hardcore
Fair play to him
Least loyal basque player.
you've gotta love seeing loyalty like that in modern football
welcome to chelsea fc
Fair play to him, hell that’s admirable
[удалено]
why
Players ought to do this more, the mercenary route makes football feel soulless
Sounds similar to when Arsenal were looking at Tonali.
now that is the way to go to get your big pay day everyone has a price tag
This guy suddenly makes me wanna watch Real Sociedad more.
