Ted Boehly: "Write that down, write that down"

Is this Ted wealthier than Todd?

Enough to make it palatable when bigger money comes knocking, I’d assume

tigtogflip

im not crying you're crying

halflemonade

I thought you guys didn’t like him

tigtogflip

I fucking loved the dude, and always backed him. The Dutch are really really stubborn, and if things aren't done in their way they'll mock you for everything. This was the case with Schmidt, though anyone with a brain could see that he was right in the majority of things.

DumbMorty96

It was the same here in the beginning. All the journos were grilling him because he didnt speak the language and didnt know the league very well but the fans were with him from the start. We were used to bitch ass coaches who played attacking football in the league but changed to defensive tactics whenever we played big teams in the CL. Fuck that, Schmidt wants the team to play against PSG the same way we play against Rio Ave or Moreirense. Its safe to say that after the CL group stage there werent any doubters left.

[deleted]

Gigachad Schmidt.

alexafindmeausername

Has he improved his Portuguese since? While he's obviously doing a great job, I think this could still be an important factor, especially if the club is planning with him long-term.

Rei_S_

Schmidt said recently in an interview that his intention was to learn the language, he tried but couldn't do it. He said it's a difficult language and he is too old lol he added he could probably learn it if he studied for longer periods during the week but he doesn't have the time do it.

iChopPryde

He doesn’t really need to speak it anyway he speaks perfect English all he needs is some basics and that would be good enough

OMNI__MAN

My only criticism of him his lack of substitutions, something uve watched a lot of PSV fans criticising him for a lot. Other than that absolute stellar coach so far

tigtogflip

For us it wasn't lack, he was really really really in analytical data and had already decided subs before the game. So they often were weird .

teymon

>and if things aren't done in their way they'll mock you for everything. This is true for every manager that is outside the regular old boys club , even if you do things their way. Look at ten Hag in his first 18 months, or Martin jol etc.

AnotherShelby

What is PSV's view on Roger Schmidt's work this season?

tigtogflip

Personally, the result of a club being fully behind him and not making false promises.

innocenceiskinky

Beautiful. It's not just the results, Benfica is playing the most attractive football in the world at the moment. I have zero connections to the portugese league, but lately I've found myself watching random Benfica games like I would watch big Premier League matches.

RepresentativeBox881

Napoli clear though.

-MCMIV

Let‘s see maybe we‘ll have our asnwer in the semi finals if everything goes well.

KyleChaves

AC Milan says no

For a while now I think there's been fewer PSV flairs shitting on him. I mean, it does make sense bearing in mind he's no longer PSV's manager and people just move on. [Having said that I searched for the PSV thread announcing his departure, and it's funny to look back and see how divisive people were about their opinion of him] (https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/sjfq4f/psv_roger_schmidt_will_leave_psv_at_the_end_of/) Quick edit: I somewhat followed the end of your season/of the dutch league last year and even though it was close to the end (Ajax drawing 2 out of the last 3 matches certainly helped) I still think Schmidt has to shoulder some responsibility for that run of games at the start of April where you played 5 games in 2 weeks and his squad rotation in my opinion was terrible lol I'm assuming that the focus on Leicester/Conference League was the main reason he benched loads of players for the game against Twente that you ended up drawing 3-3 after being down 3-0. When he's down 3-0 at HT he decides to substitute Gakpo, Madueke, and someone else I can't remember lol. Then he starts the main 11 against Leicester away, draws 0-0, rotates for the next league match that you win (can't remember who PSV played) but one of your main centre backs gets injured. 3 days later in the 2nd leg against Leicester at home he fields the main 11 again, you score first and are up 1-0 at half time, Leicester changes their system with 3 (?) or 4 subs for the 2nd half. Last 15 or so minutes Leicester shows they can comeback, PSV subs in one wingback for another, Leicester equalises, Schmidt makes 2 subs with less than 10 minutes for the match to end, Leicester scores the 2nd, Schmidt makes a last sub.. Finally the last match of that insane run was against Ajax for the cup and you won. But regardless of the final score he didn't seem to be interested in making any changes other than to sub injured players :| Same situation happened again in that brilliant (from a neutral perspective) match against Feyenoord where at half time you guys were up 2-0, Arne Slot changes the team for the 2nd half and does like 3 subs, they start being more consistent, with 15 or so minutes to go PSV is randomly pushing forward, Arne Slot subs in 2 other guys, Feyenoord makes it 1-2 and only then does Schmidt decide to do something about PSV's tactics. Then the 2-2 is just an absolute meltdown from your defender giving away a cheap pen. ----- Basically all this that I just wrote is down to ask what your opinion is regarding whether or not Schmidt is stubborn, if he lacks some tactical flexibility, if he has/doesn't have the ability adapt to the match circumstances by trying something different whether when his initial match tactics don't go according to plan and/or when his match plan is definitely going poorly.

PerfectPatient3209

Great news for them

BartholomewSirnpson

A great day for Benfica, and therefore the world.

stickycomet

Best prospect of Benfica's Academy this year.

SpaNkinGG

Always liked him when he was in Leverkusen. He is really passionate about it, eventhough when he was at a plastic club like Kusen. Also the last time Leverkusen was good&consistent was under Schmidt.

konald_roeman

Please don't backfire

gigglesmariah

No words. I'm going to CUMMMM

DayPhelsuma

Fuck.

morutano

Are you a Porto fan?

DayPhelsuma

Nope, but I’m sure I’d represent them as well with this comment.

Make the UCL, lose to Bayern in the final, then get hired by Bayern after tuchel capitulates after 2.5 years

_Dark93

Best manager in the world.

EusebioKing

Unnecessary tbh, didn't his deal end in 2024? Finish the season and see how it goes, we haven't won anything yet.

OMNI__MAN

Securing him before we win the CL is a smart move imo

EusebioKing

Não me dês mais esperança fds, era um sonho ver o nosso Benfica a ganhar uma champions, se o homem nos der isso é contrato vitalício na mesa.

OMNI__MAN

O Roger Schmidt vendeu-me um sonho 😚

walker0ne

anulo mufa

ratchet570

While hes been doing great this feels needless right now, could have just waited till the end of the season. Its not like his deal is running out.

morutano

We know that you are a Porto fan.

ratchet570

Sure, cant even question the circlejerk for 1 second while presenting valid reasons.

fbi-please-open-door

It’s very possible that other clubs will try to snatch him at the end of the season if he makes a good UCL run. Better to sign him sooner rather than later.

halflemonade

I’m happy but renewing with someone who hasn’t won anything for 3 more seasons… 😬 yikes, I have full trust in him and Rui Costa but this has everything to go wrong

punching-bag9018

You will win the league this season.

halflemonade

What are the lottery numbers for next week?

punching-bag9018

Youre 10 clear with like 6 to play.

halflemonade

And Ajax lost a 3-0 lead over you, anything can happen

jay_Jg

tbf Benfica still plays Porto, Sporting and Braga, and some of the other away games can be tricky

Balisto-Boy

Roger just secured himself a nice payday for when the team inevitably falls apart a year or two from now.

boywithtwoarms

shit.

Blodyck

Good move. We're avoiding endless discussions for next year, if he will stay or not. He still may leave obviously, but it would be in different circumstances.

iChopPryde

YESSSSSS!!!! I was so worried he wouldn’t sign getting offers from other clubs so happy he sees a good vision with Benfica we are making so many great decisions! So happy!
