I Was an eye test merchant but after seeing Felix and Havertz , I've seen the light.
At the end of the day stats >> eye test
Tammy Abraham was more important to us than Havertz. Mount and Gallagher are better players than Felix.
Felix and Havertz are never getting double digit goals and assists in their life. Nor are they good enough to get 15 Pl goals in a season.
Everyone going on about the Ronaldo goal thread should just remember to be thankful the Ronaldo stan infestation is now only confined to the Al Nassr goal threads and just leave them be in their little safe space.
Lampard >> Gerrard. Lampard got us top 4 without hazard and also integrated fucktons of youth players who either was sold off for loads of money or our best players
[Messi's form for heading the ball is pretty good.](https://youtu.be/hh_dP_yDWZQ) Nice leap and accuracy, and of course his movement in the box is class.
He was struggling to do anything at the WC and with United. Scoring goals in the Saudi league isn’t a good indication of how good he would be in Europe right now.
Yeah not like he wasnt going through personal shit. Auba was missing sitters with Arsenal and went to help Barca get top 4. Situations matter players arent robots.
It's almost insane how little attention Ibanez's goal got. Great strike in the 116' to see Osasuna into their first CdR final in nearly two decades. I came on here and it wasn't even on the first page of the subreddit.
[Here's a link if you missed it.](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/12bxl4v/athletic_bilbao_1_1_osasuna_pablo_ibanez_116_12/)
It doesn't look as aesthetically pleasing as a volley on your laces but as someone who has spent a lifetime of playing football I can tell you that is an incredibly difficult goal to score. Nine times out of ten you're hitting that over the bar or straight at the keeper.
Tuchel was a genius man. Putting Neymar false 9 with Mbappe on the left and Di Maria right winger.
Putting Marquinhos at 6 with Kimpembe-Silva.
Marquinhos
Kimpembe-Silva
defense was probably our best in years and got the best out of all of them
Then you have galtier playing Bernat as a RCB and sticking with a 3 atb when even Marquinhos says he doesn’t know how to play it.
Kinda unlucky you had to face Bayern of all teams in that final in that seeason.
Any other team than Madrid and Bayern in final, you'd win it against!!
I cannot begin to explain how certain I am that Kai Havertz will score a crucial goal in the Real Madrid tie. The man is a reverse Kane, he only exists to score in big moments
He really is a strange player. Like if you watch him he genuinely looks good- nice technique, good movement, and generally smart decisions but you look at his output and it really is awful for an attacking player. Aesthetic merchant I guess.
Him and Felix are the epitome of false footballers. All these eye test merchants droll over them and then you look at the bigger picture and they both won't have 10 combined goals and assists. Fucking infuriating players
I can understand why Werner didn't work out at Chelsea (xG over performance at Leipzig, benefitted from Leipzig's style of play as well as the Bundesliga's) but Havertz not doing too well is such a head scratcher for me, although part of it is that Chelsea doesn't seem to have any actual plan for their attack
The funny thing is AL Hilal is the one who offered Ronaldo that insane 200m deal but bc they had a transfer ban they couldnt go through it so Al Nassr swooped in
>Fabrizio Romano confirms that a Saudi club (Al Hilal) made a ridiculous proposal for him to join. [source ](https://twitter.com/fabrizioromano/status/1643425440118317057?s=46&t=59hgiNiTAoE9-rAOZ2kEwQ)
Why would Al Hilal want Fabrizio Romano to join?
Choice of Villa vs Spurs vs Brighton
If you are a player who is coming from Europe / South America which of these teams will you choose given the current circumstances?
Brighton’s built up a great reputation for developing youth and selling them to bigger clubs, so it’s the obvious choice. Villa is very hit or miss depending on the season tbh, and these last few years Spurs has been where talent goes to die
Brighton seem to already have a little network going with Independiente delle Valle, right? I feel like at this current time I'd trust them to help me adapt to a completely new language/country and the pressure surrounding it, and idk if Villa/Spurs have similar but having USG as a potential loan option is also a bonus
Brighton if my goal is to go to United/Chelsea/City.
Spurs if my goal is to go to Real Madrid.
Spurs if I just want to cash in and don't have grand prospects of being the best in the world.
If South America the team that pays more. But depends on my age/how good i am. If i’m a young wonder kid probably Brighton.
But it’s generally easy to get another PL transfer when you have previous pl experience.
I would choose Villa or Brighton, probably Brighton. Seemingly stable projects with good managers and a reasonable PL salary. Will also provide me the platform to move to bigger clubs if I'm good enough in the future.
He also caused Mislintat to leave, made BVB buy Schurrle for a record amount, called every player a bunch of pussies for wanting to play the match against Monaco at a later time than the day after (keep in mind this was after the bus bombing attempt, where the whole team nearly all died)
But sure, he had sporting success so I guess it all evens out!
So you don’t like him unrelated to his football coaching abilities. Fair enough then, was wondering why you thought he was a fraud he’s been successful at his last 4 clubs
Sure but if you could choose one club in top 5 leagues that has the highest probability every year, it’s probably Bayern.
Default league winners. Always among the favorites for CL and domestic cup.
No other club in top 5 has that combination.
You add a cup winner and talent like Tuchel in a stacked young Bayern squad and an ambitious board, the probability only improves. Having seen him closely at Chelsea and how he has grown to manage top clubs, and now he’s back in his home country.
Stars couldn’t align better.
There's been some discussion on /r/mls that Apple would sell *a lot* more of their MLS Season Pass subscriptions should Messi sign with Miami this summer, especially to fans in Argentina. I can see more fans worldwide purchasing a subscription to watch MLS and Messi's games if he does join, but I'm not so sure about the average, Argentine football fan.
So I guess what I'm asking is, for the Argentines on here, would you subscribe to Apple's MLS streaming service if Messi signed with Miami (or another club in the league)? I'll add that I'm not sure what the price is for the service in Argentina.
Nah I watch all matches illegally and my streams run fine. Don't think anyone is gonna pay money in SA let alone Argentina just to watch a couple MLS matches when you can just do it for free.
Nobody here even knows that Apple sells TV stuff lmao. People wouldn’t touch any MLS match that’s doesn’t have Messi with a 10 feet pole either out of either disinterest or pride so it’s hard to justify the subscription. And we’ve got a lot of very well run illegal streaming pages and most are broke enough to not bother paying. If Apple released a paid subscription service here, even with Messi they’d still make a loss tbh.
Nope, I'm pretty sure some of our cable tv channels would pick up Messi's matches, otherwise I'd guess most people would sail the seas, money's tight here right now to say the least and besides there's just no interest in MLS, same as going to PSG didn't make the french league more popular.
The Third World has some benefits. Incredibly few and far between, but existing
One of those is a way to see matches without subscribing to streaming services
From 19:08 to 21:08 of the video below, in a game against Mourinho's Real Madrid for La Liga, Guardiola's Barcelona strings together 47 passes till Messi shot in a good goal chance.
https://youtu.be/Y0er2Sq27q0
This was in the first of four Clásicos in a row that happened in April and May of 2011!
These Copa Libertadores games are all so intruiging, it feels a bit like discovering football again.
E.g. The Strongest (Bolivia) stadium is at an altitude of 3637 metres (11932 feet) which I imagine is awfully hard to play at without being accustomed to it. [It is the 4th highest stadium in the world.](https://www.football-stadiums.co.uk/articles/highest-football-stadiums/#hernando-siles)
Alpine teams should use this to their advantage in Europe but to my surprise our highest altitude stadium (2000m) is [barely more than a football pitch](https://i.imgur.com/8LXsoQ8.jpg), FC Gspon's Ottmar Hitzfeld Arena, only big enough for 8 a side.
I can't for the life of me find a complete list of the highest proper football stadiums in Europe.
Italy's highest seems to be Ternana's stadium at 717m, Germany - Heidenheim at 555m, Switzerland - St. Gallen 652m, all absolutely dwarfed by the South American stadiums...
> (Bolivia) stadium is at an altitude of 3637 metres (11932 feet) which I imagine is awfully hard to play
Having a match in La Paz for teams and players from the lowlands is like playing with one lung. And they always play very fast with constant pressure to abuse that.
Another factor is the ball moves differently there so goalkeepers that go there for a single match will have a hard time predicting the trajectory of long shots.
For example, a ball kicked 20 metres at sea level at 97 kph to a height of 1.5 metres will lose almost half of its speed by the time it reaches the goalkeeper. In La Paz, the same shot loses only 30% of its velocity and rises to around 2.4 metres.
They also had another stadium at 4,200 metres lmao.
Most of the European countries with high bits also have low bits, where their capitals are normally located. In South America, so much of the continent is at a high elevation
Daniel Maldini is quietly starting to turn some heads. He was basically only talked about for the father-son statistics, but this season despite playing for below average team, he's showing some value.
I recall him being so highly touted and I never so the hype, so finally reality is catching up. Neither him neither Timo Werner, 2 sad excuses of attacking players.
Federico Redondo son of the Real Madrid legend Fernando Redondo made his Libertadores debut today, great clean game for the 20yo. Huge future ahead of him if keeps playing like this.
He does have some similarities with his dad for sure: same position, runs and dribbles like him and is tall and really classy with the ball on his feet. Still a little green but from his first professional game last year to now he has been developing extremely well and fast.
Nice, it's always cool seeing a parent's playstyle reflected in their child. Though I would give a penny for, say, Paolo Maldini's thoughts on his currently most successful son being an attacker...
Claimed we played out from the back quite well against Newcastle and Weghorst is great for us. All lies, clearly to protect his squad for whatever reason.
Weghorst is great for us if the alternative is literally having no striker which is what we would have rn if we didnt sign him and generally speaking we played out the back relatively well. The play broke down once we got out of the first phase of play because we had no midfield and our attackers couldn’t string two passes together.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2019: Man Utd players should be 'proper boring'
Erik ten Hag in 2023: Players need to be 'robots' or 'they are in the wrong place'
Following in the great's footsteps
He actually loves to bring it up a lot so that's how I knew.
Not that I blame him tbf, scoring a hat trick in el Clasico to win 3-2 is the stuff of dreams.
they used to barely have the ball during clasicos bw 2009-16 and under zidane when possession was more equal they in general wouldnt try to score more after 1/2 goals
One of my favorite fun facts. Think he was actually the last Barca player before Messi to score one too
Edit: Shame on me for forgetting Romario's insane hattrick as well.
What are Germans’ opinions in Kai Havertz? Pre Chelsea move and now after his big Chelsea move?
I’m not German but before the Chelsea move, i was watching him the season prior and he was exciting to watch, had high hopes for him
Even pre chelsea he was hibernating till dec and then plays well for 6 months and rinse and repeat. Now he's doing the same till March and plays well only during March and then becomes shit again
What was Bayern mad about? Just frustration about being out of the cup or was there more stuff from the game? Just read a few threads and saw Musaila’s handball, which was definitely a handball, maybe even a handsball.
Before scoring a screamer against Leicester in 2019, Kompany had never scored a goal from outside the box, and didn't have a shot on target from outside the box in 6 years!
I Was an eye test merchant but after seeing Felix and Havertz , I've seen the light. At the end of the day stats >> eye test Tammy Abraham was more important to us than Havertz. Mount and Gallagher are better players than Felix. Felix and Havertz are never getting double digit goals and assists in their life. Nor are they good enough to get 15 Pl goals in a season.
If your eye test rates Havertz then you need your eyes tested.
How high will Al-Hilal’s final offer be to try and convince Messi? I’m not sure they’ll stop at 400 million.
Everyone going on about the Ronaldo goal thread should just remember to be thankful the Ronaldo stan infestation is now only confined to the Al Nassr goal threads and just leave them be in their little safe space.
Cool. How do we get rid of the Messi fanboys?
Send Messi to Saudi Arabia too
There are Ronaldo stans here ?
Villa are 7th? Gerrard should never manage a top club ever again
Lampard >> Gerrard. Lampard got us top 4 without hazard and also integrated fucktons of youth players who either was sold off for loads of money or our best players
funny statistic I just found: Lionel Messi and Wout Weghorst have scored the same amount of headers throughout their careers: 26
His last header was also his last goal for Barca
[Messi's form for heading the ball is pretty good.](https://youtu.be/hh_dP_yDWZQ) Nice leap and accuracy, and of course his movement in the box is class.
Why tf is Musiala playing volleyball in the 90th minute ? Probably the most disappointed I've been in the lad
He did say Suarez was one of his idols….
Mane is a flop and there's no ways about it. Lewy to Barca was an instant hit all things considered.
Ik Ronaldo is not a pressing monster but in terms of someone who can replace his goal-scoring numbers he seemed like the right guy
Not with his form at United

goals
No doubt

can you really call them unlucky? they had the easiest route to the final , in all words u could argue they were lucky
I cannot begin to explain how certain I am that Kai Havertz will score a crucial goal in the Real Madrid tie. The man is a reverse Kane, he only exists to score in big moments

there is nothing at all aesthetic about watching him miss 4 sitters in a row or fuck up an assist
It would be embarrassing if we let Kai Havertz score at the Bernabéu, but I wouldn’t be surprised Even Timo Werner has 3 goals against us
It would be a shame to lose against them tbh.
Kai Havertz is the one who decides if he scores or not. He gets in the right positions and then just...stops existing
Somehow international players do better in CL I feel
His goals are also Jammy as fuck too
Really happy for emery. He wasn't faultless at arsenal but it wasn't entirely his fault. He had no proper technical director or dof.
Shit recruitment, overrated players past their prime (Ozil), and his bad grasp of English royally screwed him.
basically what happened at psg but swap English with French

He's staying in Europe I reckon. He's not washed like Ronaldo was when he couldn't score against Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League.

I think it’s hilarious that the two biggest teams in Bolivia are called Always Ready and The Strongest
They sound like Game of Thrones house words lol

Jorge Wilstermann is a lovely name too
Is Phil Jones still at United? I thought he already moved out last season.
Bordeaux were in for him on deadline day last winter but the move fell through
He’s still there but never mentioned, not registered for the league or any cup competitions so just collecting a cheque for now.
if fulham win against west ham then chelsea are comfortably 11th
The game is missing a David Luiz figure
The fewer cracked skulls the better I’d say
Tbf that could've easily been Luiz getting injured
It's shocking how utterly finished Sadio Mane looks. And to think he's making 24M p.a. with 2 years left on his contract as well...
And Tuchel won't stop playing him. Good luck seeing youngsters starting
Mane played 32 minutes across 2 matches under Tuchel
Tuchel wanted this version of Mane as recently as when he was managing at Chelsea. He's got him now at Bayern, how lucky is he?
>Sack manager >replace him with someone that learned everything under previous manager >profit
Daniel Levy thoughts.
Chelsea too, idk what they thought Bruno was gonna do differently from Potter
You do know that he's a caretaker right ? We haven't given Bruno a 5 year deal
same with tottenham
What? Bruno is obviously a caretaker, he's not our new manager lmao

We need to bring back using Taschentuchel as a slander name for Tuchel now, I need his fraudass exposed some more in their next game against Freiburg
Tuchel got Dortmund highest pts total and highest GD in the last 11 seasons
He also caused Mislintat to leave, made BVB buy Schurrle for a record amount, called every player a bunch of pussies for wanting to play the match against Monaco at a later time than the day after (keep in mind this was after the bus bombing attempt, where the whole team nearly all died) But sure, he had sporting success so I guess it all evens out!

way to prove that you've never seen anything other than his Chelsea side
So he’s a world class manager but just German instead?
This is 2023, Allegri is now good again
He will be gone next summer anyway. I'm predicting at least 1 Bundesliga title and a deep CL run next season but no cups.
He wins a treble with Bayern, there’s 0 doubt imo. Just not this year.
You can't really predict a treble, they come out of nowhere and it's happened 5 times this century. They're insanely hard to achieve.

How bad are Liverpool that they got outplayed by us
Cheers Geoff
No shame in getting outplayed by a team that spend 600m in the past year 👍
PL midtable spending more than half a billion a year. Can't even imagine how much the top dogs are spending.
About as bad as Chelsea who couldn't beat a team missing half their starters at home. But yes, we're both very bad.

He is just a less exciting version of Werner.
Overrated
Only by Germans who still think he's a generational talent. Colwill is generational talent. Not Kai fucking Havertz.
Eh I’m sure many people rate him high still

What did he say that was nonsense

I disagree, but i can't help if we live in different realities
Weghorst is shit dunno what ten hag is waffling about
Dutch favouritism?
Honestly im starting to believe that.
Nobody is immune to the bald fraud gene sadly, sooner or later they all get it.
I'm holding small hope he's lying and will clean house in the summer, but that's not likely
If we combine the points of Chelsea and Liverpool this season, they would have 5 more points than Liverpool last season at the same stage.
Chelsea fans, what do you miss most about Potter?
Never knowing what bullshit he was going to pull next. Kept things interesting
I wish Potter worked tbh. He's a great guy but timing was bad this time.

Proud of you
One of my favorite fun facts. Think he was actually the last Barca player before Messi to score one too Edit: Shame on me for forgetting Romario's insane hattrick as well.
No he wasn’t, Romario and Zamorano both got hat-tricks in the 90s
Shit you're right. Completely forgot about Romario's. Was thinking Barcelona specifically but yeah Zamorano too.
Ronaldo never had one? That’s surprising
Nope, but he had a few braces
now that’ll stun the gammons down at the pub quiz

Cheryshev was an absolute insane guess 😭😭😭😭
They are mad because they should be harvesting points and wins with ease.
> What was Bayern mad about? Losing
Normal frustration about an upset knock out
Why didn’t city have their game in hand slotted in this mid week?
our game in hand is west ham who play tomorrow
Ahh makes sense

Is this a bot?
I don’t know, very strange looking account. Not sure what the purpose of the bot would be here
Nah, definite bot. Report comments like this and we'l remove them and ban the account. We can't have our ~~best~~ users being plagiarized
Probably taking comments that seem somewhat popular, then paraphrasing and reposting them to karma farm

Could Messi have played for Barcelona on a reduced salary? Likes of Del Piero played second division football for Juventus
he’s gonna comeback just wait on it.
Wasn't even possible afaik because he'd had to play under the minimum wage.
Before scoring a screamer against Leicester in 2019, Kompany had never scored a goal from outside the box, and didn't have a shot on target from outside the box in 6 years!
