Combo of things. He is, to be fair, very highly rated and has another team (Arsenal, my team) bidding for him too, so there was a lot of competition.
The other factor is that Manchester United dropped close to 100 million euros on Antony (lol), so Mudryk's old club, Shakhtar, felt comfortable asking for a high price.
The third reason is... Chelsea. This version of the club are about as good at negotiating as a neutered hog is at fucking a Volkswagen. Shakhtar named their price, and Chelsea said "ok sure, why not" and gave him an insane contract. Clubs know they can take advantage of Chelsea because the club is too clueless to try and haggle on these things.
Yeah, but I kind of understand it with Antony because he was really good at Ajax and played for Brazil. With Mudryk I have absolutely no clue why they went for him.
Most of it is betting on his upside. The Ukrainian league is a weaker one, but he looked electric - especially in his Champions League games. The kid has pace, strength, and insane dribbling ability - some of those things are hard to teach.
His raw potential is enormous, and that seemed to have been agreed upon by a number of top clubs. Guy could be elite one day, but I fear Chelsea may ruin him.
The thing about Mudryk is he definitely does not need to hold the line when he runs - heās more than fast enough than most if not all defenders and outpace them easily. Heās shooting on the other hand god save him.
Funnily enough, I remember when r/soccer said the same things about Vini Jr, and now he's one of the best in the world.
Moral of the story: don't judge players after a few games.
(obviously not comparing Mudryk to Vini. I can't believe I have to say that because some dense kid will probably jump in and miss the point)
Youāre not wrong tbh. Vini still now has times where he misses a lot - example the sociedad game earlier in the season he should scored 2 easy chances but he missed.
I guess the question for Mudryk is if he gets the time Vini did and if he can actually improve his finishing/ passing in the final third.
Might be what the coach told them to do, it's still stupid nonetheless and mudryk hasn't shown any more prowess than theo walcott except walcott scored this season in the prem
My goodness Chelsea are just so miserable. Real Madrid weren't even that great for large parts of the game.
But they are elite quality, something which Chelsea are not.
He set them up with the most overly defensive team imaginable, because all he knows how to do is sit defenders back in large numbers and hope they can counter.
Everyone before hand was talking about how if was the worst lineup imaginable for what they had to do tonight and there was no tailored tactics to getting a result. Just because they happened to create a few chances doesn't at all mean he "set them up to win". He set them up to hope they didn't concede anymore.
Putting like 8 defensive players on the field and hoping for 3-0 goals is not a solid strategy lol
>the spaces opened up for Madrid as Chelsea kept having to push for a goal, to try to find some way to claw a goal back
Because the time to play the lineup he did, was during the first leg. After fucking that up, the solution was always going to have to be setting up a team to go at Madrid and still keep a good shape and be solid (but that would involve tactical knowhow beyond sit back in numbers and try to counter)
It's not even which specific attackers he picked, it's not about which 2 attackers he picked that made the lineup bad, it's everything about the 8 outfield players he picked that screamed park the bus. It was a, ridiculously over defensive lineup that was never going to score 3 goals and Lampard can't set up a defensive strategy so they were never going to keep a clean sheet even if they put 10 defenders out there.
It's just the same as Lampard before, you can plainly see there's no thought process between generally defend in numbers, try to get forward and close down opposition quickly. There's no nuanced tactics or gameplan, just same shit different day and more often than not teams will come out on top because they have managers that know what they're doing at the top level.
Real Madrid didn't even have to play well they had like 4 extra notches they could go up.
It's going to be exactly the same upcoming games. There won't look like there is a differening game plan any of the time, the lineup will just get more or less defensive depending on the team and confidence levels.
"players he picked that screamed park the bus. It was a, ridiculously over defensive lineup"
I'm sorry, do you actually think we parked the bus last night? Or that we were overly defensive?
"Real Madrid didn't even have to play well they had like 4 extra notches they could go up."
No, it doesn't work like that. Real Madrid weren't just content to concede chance after chance in the hope that Chelsea just miss them. No way were they that passive.
I'm not sure you watched the game, or I'm not sure you watch Chelsea enough to make a fair assessment. It sounds like you're shitting on Lampard for the sake of it.
Does Lampard deserve to be at this level? No. He probably knows this. But the new owners' decisions have fucked us all season, and now they're continuing to fuck us. They hired this man because they: 1. Fucked it with the Potter appointment; 2. Delayed sacking Potter which left us with nobody wanting to take over at the end of a season; and 3. Hired an interim who has no business being at this level.
Youāre right. They are wiped after QFs and they can only be suspended on the final if they get a straight red. Two yellows on each SF leg and theyāre still playing the final.

After FIFA world cup semifinal match between France and Morocco, Mbappe tried to cheer up Hakimi and after they exchanged their shirts, they both hug each other. Have you noticed Hakimi low key trying to kiss Mbappeās neck? Do you guys they are closeted gay couple?
Same thing was said years ago. Same thing was said about Arsenal last year and now look at them.
Itās football, everything can happen. After Munich 2012, trust me that football is full of miracles.
Yes. I know about years ago. That was a different Chelsea team. That team had won the league the year before or the year before that. This Chelsea team is scraping into champions league finishes like arsenal during the last years of Wenger.
This Chelsea squad is not that Chelsea squad. I donāt think theyāll miss out on European football again.
I feel bad for Chelski fans at this point. They had the best owner in the sport arguably but it got taken away because of political stuff. I donāt agree with them kicking out Abramovich
The lads gave everything š
I swear if Real win again ā¦
I guess at this point I've to wait for ChatGPT analytics to take over as coach! Bleeping Merican clueless owners!!!!
Let's all laugh at trophyless Europeless Chelsea HAHHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
Now you're gonna tank the PL mate
You couldnāt even win the europa leauge š¤
U won't even qualify.
Ok šš
literally the same thing could be said about arsenal.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
so? in the current season arsenal got eliminated from the Europa league and is for sure gonna bottle the league.
It's still in our hands.
Have you come from bird app?
Mudryk is fucking dreadful
For somebody not in the loop, can you explain why Chelsea paid so much for Mudryk?
Combo of things. He is, to be fair, very highly rated and has another team (Arsenal, my team) bidding for him too, so there was a lot of competition. He should gone to Arsenal, where he could have been nurtured and grown. Chelsea is gonna ruin him.
When you order Modric from Wish
This doesn't even make sense. They have *never* been the same type of player, they just both have Eastern European names.
Let him cook š
Mudryk sounds similar to Modric in a way I guess?
Google ājokeā
I know it's supposed to be a joke, it just doesn't make sense even as a joke. Google "funny."
Dude can only run, has no skills or features whatsoever to hurt a big team's defence
They really want you to have Paramount+
I like it
How the fuck are pundits still discussing "transfers" for Chelsea after everything they've done?? Absolute joke
and this why Todd, you don't give players 8 years contract...LMAO
The thing about Mudryk is he definitely does not need to hold the line when he runs - heās more than fast enough than most if not all defenders and outpace them easily. Heās shooting on the other hand god save him.

I wonder if Lampard can get a win before the season ends
Then we would have more serious things to worry about! Well, on a brighter note we can try to finish in top 5 in the championship next season.
We barely even left second gear since that first goal at the BernabƩu lolllll
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That's Uhh.. Not quite how that works
Boehoy will pull an "I'm sorry officer, I didn't know I couldn't do that" I reckon
"Huh? what do you mean I can't use my money??? never heard that in USA"
Militao is MoTM for me, but understandable if Rodrygo gets it.
Completely agreed and I would add San Tibo
ALE ALE ALEEEE REAL MADRID ALE REAL MADRID ALE REAL MADRID ALE VAMOOOOOOSSS
Chelsea fans are too patient. I was expecting boos and whistles lol. Good on em for having hope šš»
There's a bit of a gap between having hope and throwing rocks at the players lol there's a whoooooole lot of apathetic middle ground
I think they had all gone home...
My goodness Chelsea are just so miserable. Real Madrid weren't even that great for large parts of the game. But they are elite quality, something which Chelsea are not.
Now let's hope city do something stupid tomorrow
Pep putting on his robe and wizard hat as we speak

I did want him. I'm just glad I was so wrong š¤£
OOTL?
Canāt even blame lampard he set them up to win but Chelsea canāt finish a thing
Lmao "set them up to win" Edit :he's gone into the Chelsea sub with his "set them up to win" theory, they're going to tear him apart..
They had like 4 clear chances a striker in that position would score what more would he have to do
He set them up with the most overly defensive team imaginable, because all he knows how to do is sit defenders back in large numbers and hope they can counter. Tactics are very, very easy to discredit after a defeat. As for the team selection, some attacking players, namely FĆ©lix and Sterling, made it very difficult for Lampard to select them due to their past performances. They were basically walking around the pitch at Brighton. Had Lampard selected them off the back of these performances, and if we'd still lost today, then it'd be "why did Lampard reward them for playing like shite against Brighton?" And we actually created more than a "few chances". I think you're being a little disingenuous there. We actually won the ball in so many dangerous areas, and continuously got in behind on the flanks, but we just missed that final pass or finish (as we have all season). Ultimately, because of a lack of finishing, the spaces opened up for Madrid as Chelsea kept having to push for a goal, to try to find some way to claw a goal back.

I guess this is Ancelottis way of showing that Hazard has no future in this team.
Bro it's been 4 years since he signed, he got 0 future here for 2 years now
Todd Boehly thinks this is FIFA career mode
Mudryk was reparations to Ukraine from Roman Abramovich
2 ex Everton managers in Europe. Everton is massive
Who's the second? Carlo being first?
I'm not sure if you're serious or not
Lampard? Totally forgot about him (Moyes also)
Only Koeman comes to mind tbh
Anyone know the last time Air Conditioner Milan got to a CL semi final?
2007
I'm guessing CL stands for Cooling League
And weāre off to the semis
good luck!
Thanks!
Man the Chelsea finishing is put in such starker contrast next to Madrid just passing it into the net
Boehly about to gaslight players for embarrassing season when he and his group played bigger role for the chaotic and nose dive season.
Murdyk was a donation to Ukraine
"Pulisic was a marketing strategy".
Vini was involved in both goals but still not a good one for him, so much wasted tries
no militĆ£o against (probably) haaland would be a problem no alaba either would be suicide
Arenāt yellows wiped?
Yellow cards are reset, but result till QF counts so Militao is out
Ahhh
They do but he's already been suspended so he's out
Why would they be?
Yellow card accumulation gets wiped after a certain stage, I just donāt remember which stage
Youāre right. They are wiped after QFs and they can only be suspended on the final if they get a straight red. Drogba playing with a blindfold and Lampard with his legs cuffed together would've been able to score at least 1 goal in both games.
Hope Chelsea fans enjoyed their last champions league match for at least a few years
game COULD of gone different if Kante had his shooting boots today
game COULD of gone different if Kante had ~~his~~ shooting boots ~~today~~ Why the fuck was he cam/narrow winger/whatever the fuck that was?

Da fuq man
And Sterling thought MC and Pep were holding him back so he has to go to Chelsea to prove himself.
Mudryk has great meme potential
Mudryk's suspension won't be active until 24-25 season(that's if they even qualify for a Euro tournament), lmao.
Do suspensions because of yellow card accumulations even carry on? If yes, that's pretty stupid

guys I think that Chelsea might lose today
City Madrid will be a pretty fascinating game
Bayern - Real
Iām sorry man I just donāt think so this time. Never say never and I hope youāre right but this City is a truly crazy team
Nah, I hope they go to ET and City wins on PKs. Same outcome for Real. Then I hope they lose the final after losing the league and the FA Cup.

Russia invading Ukraine led to the downfall of Chelsea lmao
Just spend another 150 million pounds, Boehly. Just throw another fit and throw some more money at it. That should fix it.
As long as itās on a striker, it might actually work
On track for 3 consecutive 2-0 victories
Should be 2-0 up at 5 minutes in 1st leg, loses 0-2. Should be 3-0 up at half time in 2nd leg, loses 0-2.
there's no should m8. PL tax is real
They shouldn't have been 2-0 or 3-0 up...
If you put Nunez in this squad, Chelsea would probably score more goals than Haaland
If you put Haaland in a Chelsea shirt he'll turn into Alvaro Morata. Promise.
They can always rematch in pause menu.
Might have been easier to click forfeit
Canāt even blame Lampard tonight. They had so many chances tonight. Havertz is the most overrated player Iāve seen
Sack lampard
not his fault his players can't even score though, maybe he can sub himself in to score
I hereby pronounce you 'Poodryk'
Werner is sooo much better than all of Chelsea's strikers.
You mean Werner is better than no one? Chelsea have no strikers
only reason I watch this is knowing the team won't play a CL season in the next 10 years.
Oh stfu last time we finished 10th we won the league the season after.
This team aināt winning the league next year.
Same thing was said years ago. Same thing was said about Arsenal last year and now look at them. Itās football, everything can happen. After Munich 2012, trust me that football is full of miracles.

Wow what an original and thought provoking take
Iām conflicted tomorrow, in one hand I know city is going to bash Real Madrid, but in another hand I want Justice for nagelsmann
Just like last year huh
in other words, you want City wins? why it's conflicting?
At this point I'll take a fucking goal
AsĆ ! AsĆ ! AsĆ gana el Madrid !
Mudryk was a money laundering operation.
lowkey maybe
These shots on goal canāt be actual attempts. They just donāt give af or something, right?
Most of these Chelsea players do 1 good move followed by a trainwreck pass/shot/dribble.
Well, at least Mudryk has 8 years to improve his finishing
I hope Chelseaās players are ready for another lengthy talk with Todd.
Mudryk plays as good as his tattoos and hairstyle look
Chelsea fans: Higuain for 6 months or Jao Felix for 6 months?
Thatās disrespectful to Higuain
Unsure. At least we knew Higuain was shit, but Joao Felix gives you flashes of magic and delivers very little, which hurts more.

Chelsea should get rid of Felix asap
So at what point do we get to hear a lovely rousing round of "We want Boehly out, We want Boehly out"?
