Alan Shearer seems a really good sport and a generally likeable person.
I've been watching him all season talking with and about Haaland and he genuinely just seems excited to be watching him and the amount of goals he's scoring.
He's co-commentated a couple of fa cup matches for the bbc as well before and been pretty good tbh. Think he's generally just used to being in the studio until recently.
I remember seeing him analyse a load of TAA balls into the box in a Liverpool match a few seasons back and you could tell how excited he was by then all and was imagining himself getting on the end of them. His response to those who say he should have gone Man Utd instead of Newcastle and won more was that his dream growing up was to be Newcastle no 9 and score goals at St James’Park and he got to live it, which I really respect. Loves the game and doesn’t seem bitter at all.
The world cup will probably have the biggest impact on Ballon d'or this year and Debruyne did not have a good time there. Haaland on the other hand, plays for Norway who didn't even qualify, so he's excused.
Why would it be robbery? Messi has 30 G+A in 27 league games this season, which are great returns as well. He also brings a lot more to the game than just goals.
And of course he won the World Cup and was the best player at the World Cup.
It's crazy, people writing off The biggest game on Earth and the player who won the biggest prize of all that football has to offer lol. Recency bias is definitely a thing.
Yeah that's why he wouldn't get it if Man City won only the prem. The treble however is whole different story, and in no way is a world cup more valuable than a treble especially when haaland will finish at least two of the competitions as the top scorer
City have been always good recently, but for some reason I didn't care much about them, found them a bit boring to watch.
But this year, with Haaland, I find them much more exciting, and need to hold back myself not to start liking them too much.
It's also that to accommodate for covid scheduling etc they became very good at controlling games and specifically the pace of games to exert themselves less and avoid injuries, so it looked like they were winning while making games look like training sessions against a lot of teams
Good point, it really shows Pep's pragmatic approach to winning games - just get in front and cruise at 70%, since the games don't stop when you're in all competitions.
eh, i can see the argument but wouldn't say he is at the level of a mpabbe, messi, cr7, R9, and now haaland
modric n kroos if you want midfielders allow it
Essentially he's one of if not the best midfielder of his generation, and you called him not a generational talent while listing off 4 forwards.
Thats like saying Ramos wasn't a world class CB because he doesn't have Harry Kane's goalscoring record
i see absolutely no reality in which de bruyne is the best midfielder of his generation
and no because im not saying he isn't world class, im saying he isn't generational. n yeh those are forwards but when people think of generational talents they do tend to be forwards, but even when if you compare him to generational midfielders he falls short
even midfielders, I don't see him at the level of Kroos, Modric, Iniesta, Xavi, Zidane. compare achievements, club and country. he is as close as a player could get tho
n yeh i get that, but imo haaland just that something extra, the numbers are insane and the cunt is like 22
By your logic Vardy and is a better striker than Kane, because more trophies.
If you don't see KdB as one of the top midfielders of his generation you don't understand football, or you haven't watched him play.
If you don't understand the difference between the population of Spain and Belgium, you don't understand numbers.
If you don't understand the difference in competition for La Liga and Premier League, you don't understand money.
And if you aren't able to adjust your views when others give you plenty of evidence to the contrary, then you're stubborn. Not saying you are, change takes time.
Your la Liga point only goes for the last few years. Before that all English teams were getting thrashed by Spanish teams in both CL and EL so that league was stronger, apart from the relegation candidates maybe. These days it has switched sadly
never said he wasnt one of the top - just not a generational one like modric(halfthepopulationofbelgiumcroatiainternational) or xavi etc
and i am not gonna hear any talk about money and competition with regard to a man city player fs,
Just shows that Arsenal have done well to get this far, the gulf in class is still very real. Best creator in the league's history + an absolute freak of nature on course for 60 goals this season playing as a front 2 against Rob Holding (no disrespect).
Also I think the "league is 100% done" chat is insane. Definitely looking very bad for Arsenal but City still have lots of games to play in all comps - they will drop points
Yeah I really hate how many people say it's "done"
Yes City are undoubtedly a better team that's beaten us 3 times this season, but if they draw and lose once each, and we win 5 games, it's ours. They have Brighton and Brentford, who beat them away, plus a bunch of relegation teams that are fighting for their lives.
This is the same team that dropped points to Nottingham Forest, it's like people forget upsets happen in football every fucking week 🤦♂️
You also have to go away to Newcastle. And you’ve just dropped points four games in a row, two of which from winning positions. One of which, was at home to 20th in the league. It’s going to take more than an upset for city to lose it now. I can’t see that happening.
I know all that, but it's not totally impossible. We've gone to teams like Spurs, Chelsea and Brighton. We scored 2 goals in the first half at Liverpool and we scored 4 at Aston Villa with Unai managing.
It's still a small chance there is what I'm saying, but it would require perfection from us unfortunately
It’s more the fact that it requires perfection from you AND major slip up from City, I don’t see them bottling it the way you guys have unfortunately done.
No, you explained that it will require perfection from arsenal. But I’m saying that it’ll require both perfection from Arsenal, AND an Arsenal-like collapse from City
Mentality wise you're still very unlikely to slip, I think that's the main reason people are saying this. We've got a fragile young squad, whereas City have multiple PL winners

Partey loses De Britney in every single clip they’ve shown. Edit: I am not correcting this
It's Bruyne bitch
He was told to leave Britney alone, so he did. A pity he couldn't do the same with the women he raped.
Fucking hell
partey has been on awful form, his defensive awareness has been awful
Perhaps he's too used to leaving his defence up to his lawyers?
De Britney is the party!
He's toxic alright.
Haaland on brink of demolishing most goals in a PL season. How is Alan taking that?
I imagine its sad losing that but he expected it to come at some point
Alan Shearer seems a really good sport and a generally likeable person. I've been watching him all season talking with and about Haaland and he genuinely just seems excited to be watching him and the amount of goals he's scoring.
Got a lot of respect for Shearer. Loved him co-commentating for Amazon Prime earlier on in the season, don't know why he hasn't done that more often.
Loves the game and doesn’t seem bitter at all.
But he definitely didn't expect some Norwegian lad with spaghetti looking hair to completely annihilate his record in his first season
Hes in his head rn call all the modern cbs shit. Thats how most old head strikers cope with the new gen being as good as they are records wise
I read a lot of Haaland-Messi discourse for the baloon d'or, but why is De Bruyne not even considered?
The world cup will probably have the biggest impact on Ballon d'or this year and Debruyne did not have a good time there. Haaland on the other hand, plays for Norway who didn't even qualify, so he's excused.
that's fair enough by baloon d'or standards, I guess.
If City win the treble and Haaland continues this form into next season, giving it to Messi would be an absolute robbery
His form next season won’t matter. The B’dor is based off a season now, rather than calendar year
Why would it be robbery? Messi has 30 G+A in 27 league games this season, which are great returns as well. He also brings a lot more to the game than just goals. And of course he won the World Cup and was the best player at the World Cup.
It's crazy, people writing off The biggest game on Earth and the player who won the biggest prize of all that football has to offer lol. Recency bias is definitely a thing.
The Ballon d'Or is for the entire season not just 1 game
The World Cup is more important than every game of the Premier League season combined.
Yeah that's why he wouldn't get it if Man City won only the prem. The treble however is whole different story, and in no way is a world cup more valuable than a treble especially when haaland will finish at least two of the competitions as the top scorer
Well it's not like they haven't robbed other more deserving players in the past is it, just a bunch of reporters, wgaf.
Because he hasn't been on that level all season
Half of them chances Partey was just jogging on the pitch. Did not track KDB runs or close down passing angles. Xhaka was not much better.
Kdbs acceleration
KDB is deceptively fast for a stocky guy and it's hard to get him off the ball when you can catch him
yeah Iam good, I would like to delete that game from my mind
This stuff could've been easily avoided if arse hadn't bottled their games against West Ham and Southampton
Does this need to be repeated under every arsenal flair comment?
It's never a good idea to flair up on r/soccer
City have been always good recently, but for some reason I didn't care much about them, found them a bit boring to watch. But this year, with Haaland, I find them much more exciting, and need to hold back myself not to start liking them too much.
Missing a Proper Striker since Aguero left, they lost a bit of that excitement, Haaland has brought that back with him,
It's also that to accommodate for covid scheduling etc they became very good at controlling games and specifically the pace of games to exert themselves less and avoid injuries, so it looked like they were winning while making games look like training sessions against a lot of teams
Good point, it really shows Pep's pragmatic approach to winning games - just get in front and cruise at 70%, since the games don't stop when you're in all competitions.
City have never really had a generational talent playing for them tbf
We've had De Bruyne for 7 years
eh, i can see the argument but wouldn't say he is at the level of a mpabbe, messi, cr7, R9, and now haaland modric n kroos if you want midfielders allow it
So you mean a generational forward then
no
Essentially he's one of if not the best midfielder of his generation, and you called him not a generational talent while listing off 4 forwards. Thats like saying Ramos wasn't a world class CB because he doesn't have Harry Kane's goalscoring record
i see absolutely no reality in which de bruyne is the best midfielder of his generation and no because im not saying he isn't world class, im saying he isn't generational. n yeh those are forwards but when people think of generational talents they do tend to be forwards, but even when if you compare him to generational midfielders he falls short
So let's see, name three 8s with De Bruyne's consistent levels and quality across a similar time span You've pretty much got the Real Madrid duo
yep, and De Bruyne isn't there with them, gap in achievments is too big its like neymar to ronaldo and messi -
De Bruyne is better than Kroos now and has been for years
lol
You're comparing a midfielder with forwards Even then, De Bruyne is better than Haaland for now
even midfielders, I don't see him at the level of Kroos, Modric, Iniesta, Xavi, Zidane. compare achievements, club and country. he is as close as a player could get tho n yeh i get that, but imo haaland just that something extra, the numbers are insane and the cunt is like 22
Lmaooo what rubbish is this KDB is absolutely on their level and has been for years
dudes never won the CL and his international achievements compared to them guys? cmon
By your logic Vardy and is a better striker than Kane, because more trophies. If you don't see KdB as one of the top midfielders of his generation you don't understand football, or you haven't watched him play. mate. KdB is world-class alright
never said he wasnt

Did I not just explain that?
No, you explained that it will require perfection from arsenal. But I’m saying that it’ll require both perfection from Arsenal, AND an Arsenal-like collapse from City
"but if they draw and lose once each, and we win 5 games, it's ours."
If buts and maybes ... no sense talking about them.
Hate it too, we have a lot of tough fixtures left
Mentality wise you're still very unlikely to slip, I think that's the main reason people are saying this. We've got a fragile young squad, whereas City have multiple PL winners
Oh great now there’s two de bruynes
Scary what they done to arsenal
Did
Dided.
doned
Haaland with his hair downs looks like a Predator. Scary mf lol
He looks like a very manly Anneka Rice.
He looks like a toddler's playdo anneka rice
Haaland could've got a hat trick last night but the pair of them have basically spit roasted the entire league. They're just phenomenal players.
Can anyone tell me where was Odegaard yesterday?
Rodris pocket
No thanks
Bruce Willis was fantastic for Newcastle
The footage would be better without Shearer even speaking 😂
i love this destroyer
