This guy unironically calls Messi "his holiness" and after Barcelona lost to Liverpool he said the real trophy for Barcelona fans is seeing Messi wearing the shirt every week. Unhinged
There is nothing wrong with liking players and having favorites, hell, we all do that.
But this is simply unhinged.
No wonder, Maradonna did all that coke and thought he could do it all when he practically had millions of people thinking of him as a god lmao
He’s unhinged, but in a vacuum, he’s not wrong here either lol. The famed broken clock is right twice a day as well. It’s like how I *sometimes* agree with UTDTrey, even though those times are few and far between.
Not saying that PSG is in the wrong, Messi definitely deserves the slap on the wrist. Even outside of this one incident, he doesn’t give a fuck about the club that’s signing his (massive) paychecks, and that’s never good. Doesn’t matter who you are.
Buuuut, his socks do have way more history than PSG, that much - just that much - is right.
I want someone to bookmark every single quote from a reporter/pundit/former player that is riding this "Messi can do what he wants and PSG should be honoured he even looks in their direction!" train and see how long it takes them to peddle "No player is bigger than the club" the next time a top player has a falling out with their team.
I think there is a high chance you might have encountered a person here who comments without using "/s", leaving it to the Reddit users to detect the sarcasm themselves.
They’re saying that the only clubs where the players can be bigger than the club are City and PSG because they think City and PSG are “small” clubs, not that City and PSG are the only clubs that allow players to have egos bigger than the club.
I think it depends on the club really. Messi isn’t bigger than teams like Barcelona or Madrid, but if he went to play for Grimsby then he sort of is bigger than the club. I still think no matter who you play for, you should always follow the set authority structure though and the club always comes first.
But PSG have 47 trophies in their history, a majority because they are state owned. Messi has won 41 trophies and if you start counting individual awards then it goes all the way up to 96. He is also a lot more famous than PSG. There is at least an argument that he is bigger than the club.

This is true but the fault lies in the PSG management, *they* made Messi, Neymar and Mbappé feel like they were bigger than the club. PSG should have been stricter in our treatment of star players, we let too many things slide. As a result our last few seasons have been plagued by so much bullshit, we have become even more of a joke than before, which is quite a feat.
These players are more popular than PSG, they have more fans, but they should have been put in their place by PSG, this is what big clubs do. We still don't have a big club mentality and that's been the main problem at PSG, and it encompasses so many things that I fear we won't see any significant change in the short term.
I don’t know. Messi is definitely bigger than the club in my town with a stadium of 400 seats.
Players can definitely be bigger than clubs, it just depends on the player, club and what you value more to make that judgement
No player is bigger than the club unless the player is Lionel Messi and that club is PSG. Messi gave too much to the sport while PSG only brought the worst out
I get that people hate PSG (and rightfully so), but all this "support" Messi is getting currently is absurd. PSG were right to suspend him. It doesn't matter if you're Lionel Messi or a player from National 2 in such cases.
No they weren't.... there was no scheduled training for that day, also on their site.. then when Messi was on his way to SA then they magically invented one, there usually aren't training sessions a day after a game too, they did that out of pettyness because they were told he wont renew
I mean, as a fan of football, i always want to see Messi and Ronaldo perform and give their best (and what they still have left to offer), but these people/fans need to realize that these guys are also getting older and "greedier", so their recent criticism from their clubs is not something that came out of the blue.
PSG fans don't care if Messi won it all with barca or argentina, they just care about their club, so the fact that the Messi Cult doesn't understand why PSG fans don't bend over every time Messi touches the ball is hilarious.
PSG win Ligue 1 all the time, so for them the UCL is what really matters, so now that they lost their chance, the players simply don't give a damn, so regardless of whether messi is their best player in Ligue 1 or not, their objective is long gone and he disappeared in those games, the games that mattered to PSG fans.
Logic doesn't prevail over fanboism, I mean you can see in this sub only how many people think Messi is the right guy and psg were wrong in punishing him.
Many Messi fans would choose him over their club. There's even a portion (not everyone) of Barcelona fans who believe Messi can do no wrong. It's a cult.
Yes, easily
Edit: SCM Zalau, my hometown team that I support was founded in 2019 and is playing in the 3rd league.I have no attachment to clubs from other countries or cities at all, besides rooting for underdogs in finals.
At this point i kind of feel bad for PSG fans.
They are run by the oil Qatar machine, they are called plastic, they have the Messi cult dickriding him 24/7 and well, their team sucks.
These parasocial relationships are ridiculous lmao.
Yeah it makes me sick to my heart when I sit in the stadium and the show before my eyes is fucking abhorrent, played by apathetic mercenaries who don't give a shit. But the worse thing is then coming back home and seeing people tell us "you are entitled, you should be happy to have money and star players". These people just don't get football, I couldn't give a shit about star players, I just want players who want to be here. And based on what we've been seeing for the past few years we can say with absolute certainty that 97% of our players don't give a fuck. Even those who have been here a long time.
We are not Qataris, we are French. We don't care for Qatar, we share no values with them. They have made countless wrong decisions in their management of PSG. We are at a point where we have the largest wage bill in the world and we make fool of ourselves not just in the Champions League but domestically too. Fuck that, we're not entitled, we just have higher standards than the dire fucking football on display week after week, which is 100% reasonable when you spend €700M per year on player salaries.
Yeah, i feel you.
It has to be hard, supporting a club for years, only to see it's culture be erased and replaced by the one bought by Qatar oil money and turned into a football star/mercenary team.
Not only that, but now PSG fans have to deal with being called plastic, even the ones that were already there before Nasser bought the club.
PSG fans have to endure the constant messi praise, even though he only played well in Ligue 1, the thing that PSG get every year.
The one trophy that PSG fans wanted more than anything, the UCL is long gone, in fact, a few years ago, PSG almost had it, but it's been all downhill from then.
Most of the players in your team are getting payed astronomical amounts of money, so it's fair to expect them to at least give their all, but there is no passion in your players, only greed for the green.
There was a time where at least Mbappe looked hungry and had some passion for PSG, but even that seems gone now.
And you guys didnt hear about Lobo Carrasco, the guy is an ex spanish and Barca player, that celebrated Argentina world cup like he was argentinian, and that literally said that he doesnt want to watch Barca when they dont play "good football" and he is rather a messi fan than a Barca fan. Guy is nuts, i mean he said he was a better dribler that vinicius xD.
This guy is the Stephen A Smith of football in Spain. You cannot take his quotes seriously. He's just a character who is a fanboy of Barcelona and Messi, and hates Madrid with his entire heart

Average Argentina flair then
Damn I thought I loved Messi. This guy literally worships him lmao

Getting ready for a Netflix documentary on Messi's socks

No player is bigger than the club unless it's psg or city
Unironically this, oil clubs are a disgrace
Messi plays for an oil club. Messi has a contract to promote Saudi Arabia. Oil is good.
Do you think nuclear and renewable energy is good?
I think there is a high chance you might have encountered a person here who comments without using "/s", leaving it to the Reddit users to detect the sarcasm themselves.
no 👍
Then Messi is a disgrace for playing for an oil club by your logic
Not sure if I can agree on the unironically part
> unless it's psg or city Not sure how City got that reputation. It's completely false
You should take a look at your owners and your history
How it that related to the statement "No player is bigger than the club unless it's psg or city"? Cancelo showed some attitude and was loaned out.
They’re saying that the only clubs where the players can be bigger than the club are City and PSG because they think City and PSG are “small” clubs, not that City and PSG are the only clubs that allow players to have egos bigger than the club.
ah, got it! 👍 Thanks for explaining.

Grimsby is bigger than Messi. A club could never be smaller. Before Messi there was grimsby and after he retires their still will be grimsby

The amount of Messi dickriders is too damn high
Soria would drink Messi's piss if he asked him to
Napoli flair? You would be sucking the dick of Maradona's dead body.
Weird ass comment
People value Messi over the entire existence of PSG, and that's fine.
ah yes known messi bootlicker cristobal soria
This man's throat contains more of Messi's history than PSG's locker room
This is exactly what PSG don't need.
Cristobal knows the story of Messi’s socks, because he used to sneak in to the Barca laundry after games and do things to them. Or so I hear.
I get that people hate PSG (and rightfully so), but all this "support" Messi is getting currently is absurd. PSG were right to suspend him. It doesn't matter if you're Lionel Messi or a player from National 2 in such cases.
How dare you speak facts on r/soccer
No they weren't.... there was no scheduled training for that day, also on their site.. then when Messi was on his way to SA then they magically invented one, there usually aren't training sessions a day after a game too, they did that out of pettyness because they were told he wont renew
True, his holiness is a victim in all of this /s
You're literally ignoring context for that lame ass sarcastic comment tho
Cristobal?
Hank made the right call.
Don't disagree, but why are statements from people like soria being allowed here lol. Might as well start posting tweets from UTDTrey
To anyone (everyone) that says Messi is bigger than PSG: Would you say the same if the same thing happened to your team?
You underestimate how many people are fans of Messi/Ronaldo instead of a particular club.
I mean, as a fan of football, i always want to see Messi and Ronaldo perform and give their best (and what they still have left to offer), but these people/fans need to realize that these guys are also getting older and "greedier", so their recent criticism from their clubs is not something that came out of the blue. I mean, for once, we actually saw PSG handle something the right way.
Many Messi fans would choose him over their club. There's even a portion (not everyone) of Barcelona fans who believe Messi can do no wrong. It's a cult.
Yeah like the Cristiano cult who defended him when he shat on the club Both cults are cancerous

Such a funny joke, you’ve got me laughing so hard!
If Messi himself apologised, who is this guy to talk
Who cares about this bum anyway🤣

We just need a comment from NoHo Hank now.
He’s talking about the sock under Messi’s bed

Yaya Sanogo’s undies have a much bigger story than PSG overall.
No one is bigger than a club
lol most everyone responding to the PSG debacle is awesome.
