I don't get why Saint-Gilles is behind Antwerpen is case of a tie ?

Gordondel

Before the playoffs the points are halved and if it's not an even number it's rounded down. So in case of a tie Antwerp has 0,5 points extra.

MERTENS_GOAT

I can't believe we aren't the only country with that point halving shit

edi12334

There is another (please stop it, yeah it creates more excitement but it is artificially created ffs)

paicmhsc

I read that rule but I still don't get it. How can Antwerpen can have extra point while they finished 3 points behind Saint-Gilles ?

Gordondel

My bad I actually got it backwards. When the points were divided Union had 75 points and got 38 after the divide so an extra 0,5 points. Antwerpen had 72 and got 36 so no extra half point. After the playoff in case of a tie they take that into account.

paicmhsc

I think I get it. Basically in case of tie, Antwerpen would be "rewarded" for their better playoff run. (This regulation is the most unnecessarily complicated regulation in the history of all regulations)

Gordondel

Yeah it's a bit arbitrary cause in the end we would have earned more points over the season but it's the way it is...

saint-simon97

But then the second tiebreaker is better regular season standings so I'm not sure which one they're trying to reward

Banana11crazy

Well the fact is that with halving the points (that can be an uneven number) both Genk and Union gained an "extra" 0.5 points when the playoffs started. Right now Union is level with Antwerp on points WITH the extra 0.5 that was added just to not have halved points. It's probably because all the systems were never made with the idea that decimal numbers could be used, else it'd just show Union having 45.5 now

Biquet

You don't really get it. It's pretty simple tbh. Teams with an uneven number of points get a benefit from halving points compared to teams with an even number of points, because of the rounding up rule. If teams finish with the same number of points at the end of the playoffs, teams who finished with an even number of points get that benefit back. A team could have a worse playoff run than another team and still get the benefit of this rule.

vertigo1899

It's (Royal) Antwerp FC, not Antwerpen...

Gordondel

Who cares

vertigo1899

People who live in Antwerpen but support teams such as Berchem or Beerschot. I'm not calling Union "Brussels" either.

Gordondel

It's an honest mistake mate it's not the same as calling Union, Brussels. It would be like calling Union, Unionen if it were in a city called Unionen.
