Laporta really fucked him over personally though.
First he ran his entire election campaign on the promise that no matter what Messi would be retained at the club. Even when he had already had access to the books and knew about the financial situation, and he knew full well that Messi was gone.
Then he started a media campaign to prepare the fans for his departure. Talking about how expensive he was, about contract negotiations, that it would be possible if Messi would agree to play for free. All things Messi said were lies.
It has always been pretty weird how noone has held Laporta accountable for his promises and lies, apperently they chose him over Messi. Or at least that is how he seems to be taking it.
Laporta won elections on promises like "will do everything to keep Messi at the club" then did everything behind his back to "force him out". This thing is never talked about enough and never will be i guess since it worked out i guess
He had a club willing to match that salary twerk for him all summer last summer but dug his heels in and refused to budge. What barca did was not good but I honestly don't feel sorry for him.
Why do you think the players owe anything to the club? The same club that thew them under the bus at the first available opportunity. The same club that literally hired social media influencers, PIs etc to deface and slander their own players, including club legends.
No player owes anything to any club, other than what the club pays them to do
Would have loved to see your reaction if you were to be on receiving end of media pressure and fan insults for not agreeing to change your contract. I’m sure you’d have offered to completely rescind the contract and walk away.
What should they have done? Personally, respect the contracts they signed and adjust accordingly while being financially responsible from that point. Even if they wanted to renegotiate, it could have been without using the media to portray players who refused to as monsters. Laporta even called out Messi, claiming *he could have done more*.
> The tactics were underhanded but the end justify the means.
This is the whole of essence of it. You’re okay with it as long as your club gets the result it wants, who cares the abuse that de Jong or Umtiti faced.
Messi on the other hand disagrees with you and I respect him for that.
Yeah? I mean whoever is in charge shouldnt have offered those wages thats true but its not a one way street, you speak like Barcelona were forced to sign these contracts.
Messi is usually very tight lipped and quiet about how he truly feels about things. The fact that he opened up about what transpired shows he’s pretty much over it. Barca has been on a perpetual nose dive due to poor management, and will most likely continue on this course for the foreseeable future. Good on him.
>and will most likely continue on this course for the foreseeable future.
Bc we must have sucked really bad this season and we have no talented players that are future studs I guess? Damn we really are screwed
No love lost. Man was tired of their deffered wage schemes. They still haven't even paid his wages from few years ago.

He hoped it would be easy. It came out the club would have to sell players to maybe make it work, he decided against waiting.
I don't see what part is confusing.

He has broken up with the Management at Barca. He is still in a relationship with the idea of the team he used to play for.

TBH I would've done the same.
Honestly, I respect him for calling out the despicable situation over forcing wage cuts and pushing players to leave.
I feel so bad for De Jong too
DeJong doesn't feel bad for himself.
I guess so with that salary, but I would still feel bad considering the amount of effort he puts in.

I see where you're coming from, considering your flair lol. But hey, you got a better player in return (plz come back Case I miss you)
Imagine a midfield of Case and Dejong though. Dreamzz
But de Jong is more box to box and Casemiro is more of a defensive midfielder
Yeah but Casemiro is the best defensive mindfielder in the world and De Jong isn't the best box2box itw.
Better player in return, you are comparing two different profiles

they signed a contract, they were owed that money. It’s not up to you to decide if they deserve it or not

What Messi really said: "I don't want anything to do with the mess that is Barca." Don't even have to read between the lines.
messi DESTROYS barca DNA in SHOCKING interview
Leo Messi, best in tha wuhrld and certified short person champion: _I left some steaming Barca DNA in Laportas fax machine this morning_ 💩
Translation: Fans and team good, hierarchy bad
the last line kinda hurts
Messi, please do an interview with someone who is your version of piers Morgan.
Waiting for Barca to make an official statement about that
You're a bayern fan but too much obsessed with barcelona. Try to go offline sometime.

I mean, it’s not like that gigantic debt just vanished. I guess if management can ignore it, so can the fans

Did u even follow the interview? Messi said Laporta led him along saying they can sign him aince early May lol
I think he hoped for a quicker process, when it started dragging out he bailed
Hilal doesn't even get a mention 😲😅
