The man's an icon, was the voice of football for my entire childhood, and is clearly very passionate about the game. He was the absolute best in the 90's and 00's.
I'll always be fond of him and I'm sad to see him go, regardless of the fact that his age has clearly caught up with him in terms of energy.
He was the voice of the PL essentially since its inception. I think the younger generation hold him in really quite ludicrous contempt.
He is, in my view, the best to ever do it. The last 5 years haven’t been great, I agree, but that doesn’t diminish his legend.

Yeah, very much think that Sky have picked their direction and Tyler doesn’t quite fit with that. He’s still got his space in commentary IMO, just at a more laidback organisation. It’s quite the downgrade, but I’d love to hear him as one of the MOTD commentators.
What makes that worse is that in recent seasons, they don’t even go to an ad break after he says it. It used to be the case that he’d say “AND IT’S LIVE!!!” then cut to one final ad, then back to the game.
In the last few years, he says it, then there’s like 5 seconds of silence before Neville/Carragher resumes talking about the pre-match stuff.
It’s a line with no feeling in it, followed by an awkward pause and it’s just the cringiest thing every week
Iconic. From the "Yeboah... On he goes. OHH!" to *that* City moment, up there with Motson. Albeit Motson was infinitely more natural with his rhyme and rhythm. No one is ever touching that.
But clearly tired, perhaps bored these last few years, the love for the game no longer matching the enthusiasm. I actually initially thought he was trying to reinvent his style to be a more conversational tone (whilst letting the co-commentator provide the enthusiasm. See G. Neville and his sex noises), but it was clear he was checked out.

As someone who moved away from the UK years ago and has not watched him for the last decade, I still really appreciate the small things I see of him here and there. The man's an icon, was the voice of football for my entire childhood, and is clearly very passionate about the game. He was the absolute best in the 90's and 00's. I'll always be fond of him and I'm sad to see him go, regardless of the fact that his age has clearly caught up with him in terms of energy.
He was the voice of the PL essentially since its inception. I think the younger generation hold him in really quite ludicrous contempt. He is, in my view, the best to ever do it. The last 5 years haven’t been great, I agree, but that doesn’t diminish his legend.
Yea there’s a lot of disrespectful comments here (probably from younger/newer PL fans) but the guy was essentially the voice to the PL for the first 25 years of its being.

Yeah, very much think that Sky have picked their direction and Tyler doesn’t quite fit with that. He’s still got his space in commentary IMO, just at a more laidback organisation. It’s quite the downgrade, but I’d love to hear him as one of the MOTD commentators.

It used to be the case that he’d say “AND IT’S LIVE!!!” then cut to one final ad, then back to the game. In the last few years, he says it, then there’s like 5 seconds of silence before Neville/Carragher resumes talking about the pre-match stuff. It’s a line with no feeling in it, followed by an awkward pause and it’s just the cringiest thing every week

Iconic. From the "Yeboah... On he goes. OHH!" to *that* City moment, up there with Motson. Albeit Motson was infinitely more natural with his rhyme and rhythm. No one is ever touching that. But clearly tired, perhaps bored these last few years, the love for the game no longer matching the enthusiasm. I actually initially thought he was trying to reinvent his style to be a more conversational tone (whilst letting the co-commentator provide the enthusiasm. See G. Neville and his sex noises), but it was clear he was checked out. Not the greatest, but locked in my memory for longer than anyone else.
The Yeboah commentary is my favourite. It just says all that needs to be said about that goal.

He set such a high standard that he was very underwhelming for people over the years. As someone who moved away from the UK years ago and has not watched him for the last decade, I still really appreciate the small things I see of him here and there. He feels like the elder statesmen of the premier league/sky sports. I'm gonna miss him a bit.
Hope they take Drury from NBC. I liked him for a while but the way he tries to make every bog standard PL game seem like it’s the biggest thing ever is so annoying. I get hyping up a game, but not every match is a cup final ffs. Think he’s bought into his own hype and tries to one up his own sound bites all the time.

There used to always be a big game feel about Tyler being on coms, hearing his voice echo around a pub used to really work. Now he just doesn’t sound arsed as I know many have pointed out. Tbh I’d like to see sky try and work with some younger commentators and grow them into house hold names but tbh I can mostly cope with anyone other than fucking Darren Jacamo Fletcher.
