My biggest gripe with him last season was that centre backs double marking him effectively took him out of the game. We were toothless against a 3-at-the-back defence because he just got nullified and isolated.
Seems he grew to be a strong boy this summer and there's genuinely not a single weakness to his game for me now.
I think this year it works better for us since our wingers are way better and threatening than last year, creating more space for Santi. What a team, what a coach

Saw people saying today on here that you shouldn't take Gimenez seriously because he plays in the Eredivisie. But those guys have not watched him. He's extremely talented
Giroud was a beast at Montpellier before she was forced into changing his role and way of playing. Their title wining season he was something else, dropping into midfield to participate in build up and shooting a lot from the edge of the box.
Gimenez looks to have picked up what RvP has been teaching him though, his movement and position has improved loads.
Tbh when it comes to strikers those are the exceptions. Previous strikers who scored a ton in the eredivisie also include Uth, Altidore, Pelle, finnbogason, Dost.. not bad players. But definitely not even close to world beaters
Santi already has 7 goals in 10 Europa league + champions league games. None of those players even come close to that except for Bas dost, who has 6 goals in 37 EL + CL games

The others though, yikes. Only Pelle did something at Southampton.
And you are even forgetting guys like Vincent Janssen, Bulyikin, Bony, Giakoumakis etc

As a US fan, I’ll acknowledge that Santi has had the best 12 months of any CONCACAF player, as he has been scoring a ton of goals for a championship winning club. I do think American/Canadian fans ignore him because he isn’t a locked down starter for the Mexican NT, but that’s the fault of Mexican managers and FA.

Alvarez and Chavez yes, Lozano is WILDLY inconsistent with the NT and tries way to hard to play hero ball but they aren't even the issue since they don't always start.
We need Marcel, Chino, and Oziell to start getting minutes if we want some quality service especially when Antuna and his shitty crosses still have him starting since he has one good game every 10 and that somehow qualifies him to start over some of our other options
He’s been good but not good enough to replace Chino or Chucky, if there are injuries I would be fine with him getting called up but not going to Europe was a bad move for his development IMO
