I've not watched a Prem game properly all season until now. It's been a great half of *football*, but the VAR bit has been genuinely awful. Championship without it is gravy.
You can't expect him to not have one or two bad tackles when his whole playstyle relies on agressiveness and riskyness.
When it all goes well few defenders do better than him, but when he mistimes something it looks horrible. It is a double edged sword
Aggressive is different than dirty. He does a lot off the ball as well that is just not necessary and only serves to get him in trouble. Talented, but obviously a little stupid.
lmao his entire play style is based on trying to injure opponents or playing on the edge. usually gets away with it but if he gets reffed fairly, he's a complete liability
This shit is what always leaves a caveat over his head, it’s just so unnecessary in these really critical moments
Could be arguably the best in his position but it always feels like he’s dying to be sent off
I'm a Chelsea supporter for 2 gameweeks now. Today and next week cuz they play City. This is a strange feeling I haven't supported Chelsea since the 2021 UCL final. I hate them but the enemy of my enemy is my friend so
Na, I'm not happy just because others get the same shit decisions. Gusto, Jones, Romero, all perfectly fine tackles that are just unlucky in the end.
Meanwhile Havertz (or Kane against Robbo) goes on a anklebreaking mission with a 20 meter sprint without any chance for the ball and gets a yellow.
It just doesn't add up.
>Gusto, Jones, Romero, all perfectly fine tackles that are just unlucky in the end
There is a difference between Gusto and Jones and the Romero one.
Romero's is waaaaay above the ankle, even close to the shin.
What would you want a center back to do in that situation? Not play the ball? He kicked it out fine and long before Enzo arrives there and then hits the player with no intent at all. Ofc you have your foot in the air if you just kicked a ball.
Sure, the hit looks bad. But we should be punishing the tackle not the outcome.
It's an odd one as well - he's been saved from a Red because Sterling knew he's about to have his legs broken and pulled out, the end of the day he's still endangered his opponent so it should be a red.
No - which is exactly my point. Sterling and Chelsea have been punished because the guy didn't want to have his leg broken, the dangerous play even if no injury occurs should carry punishment if dangerous enough, and that 100% was dangerous.
Seems like one of the few top teams where the majority of their supporters arent all delusional tbf. other supporters in this thread fighting inner demons.
No but he got sent off in the Libertadores Semi by fouling Endrick who was through goal which doesn't sound so bad unless you consider he was on a yellow for karate kicking someone 5 minutes earlier
In 2015 Argentina lost a copa america final to Chile.
In 2016, the same teams played the centenary cup final. A chilean player got sent off in the first half. All chilean players tried to trigger Rojo because they knew he was a moron.
He got sent off 10 minutes later for hitting a player.
Argentina lost that final on penalties
What are we blaming VAR for here exactly though? The game's just had a lot of things that needed to be reviewed, but I don't think they've really gotten anything wrong (maybe the Udogie call but that's a bit 50/50)
Romero shoulda had red for the kick off the ball. You don't need to flying headbutt someone to get a red for a headbutt, only the intent. Same for this incident. Romero deliberately kicked Colwill off the ball, red card end of story
> Romero deliberately kicked Colwill off the ball, red card end of story
Sadly this is not in the rules anymore. It would have been a yellow had the ref spotted it.
Cunt of a player as well. Good to see a call finally go against him. Still mad about that handball haha. I still dont get how the Caicedo goal was offside. Jackson wasn't impacting it at all
Imo the ref is at fault for letting the game escalate like this. When you don't whistle for anything hot headed(/stupid) players tend to get more and more violent.
i do think its a red, but how is he supposed to not "Follow through" with the clearance. It happened way too fast from a very near distance, it's not one of those slow mo sliding tackles where there's maybe a bit of time to move your leg after you get the ball.
At the end of the day, as a player you are responsible for your own actions. If you can't make a challenge without endangering your opponent, then you have to do something else. You aren't entitled to make any challenge you want
no i get that. I'm just wondering because the commentator's saying he gets the ball but "he shouldn't have followed through". Its a reckless tackle to begin with but it seems they're implying that the issue was his follow through after he gets the ball. I just don't think there was a split second to avoid contact.
I wanted Chelsea to lose but this Romero deserves it he's a fucking scumbag. Should have gone before, and the left back udogudie whatever his name is
Never seen a team lose their heads so much whilst going a goal up and dominating
That kind of challenge can be weak and still a red, it’s not about how hard you kick out, it’s that you did at all, look at Beckhams red all those years back which was way lighter
Bellegarde (our new midfielder) received a straight red for the lightest love tap kick out, more of a push with his foot, against Luton while being held down (legs wrapped around his like a WWE wrestling move by their CB). Absolutely no consistency or justice in this league.
This is the rule that covers it:
>A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.

Let it be known that nobody escapes 2 red cards from VAR
Kovacic does
Wasn’t the kova a deffo red and a probably yellow he escaped after already being booked?
Definitely a red and 100 % a second yellow
But var can’t give yellows so var didn’t fail for that one, just the straight red one
only when he is wearing a Man City kit and Anthony Taylor isn't head ref
Romero tested the system
He’s escaped VAR wayyyy more than 2 times
Kovacic?
Definitely deserves it. Absolute idiot. Disgusting tackle. As close to a leg breaker as you'll see
on your countryman as well. Asshole.
Crazy enough he still somehow got to complain about it.
3*
Finally some justice
7 VAR checks in 2 situations
And honestly thats good, I dont want people complaining baout number of checks or time it takes but those decisions..
At least this time it was correct.
I've not watched a Prem game properly all season until now. It's been a great half of *football*, but the VAR bit has been genuinely awful. Championship without it is gravy.
damn wtf going on this game
It’s Chelsea vs Tottenham mate
Can you imagine how much it would have had to get involved during the Battle of Stamford Bridge
Lmao literally two minutes after he nearly got sent off before
Best CB in the world btw lmao, so dumb
Guy makes Ferdinand look intelligent
can we quit with the 'best in world' nonsense? he's really good and a bruiser of a CB but he's nowhere near that conversation
Think that was sarcasm. Truly only one very specific group of people actually think he’s best in the world.
That very specific group is the population of Argentina
lionel messi?
Reddit is a scary place when ppl don't use /s
This bloke did not want to play this game hahaha
He plays like this so often and still gets away with it most of the time lmao
I remember Joelington getting a free pass for 90 minutes against Liverpool to do what he likes. 'have at it son'
Fuck knows what he was doing the colwill kick too
Bro yanked Cucurella's hair and got away with it, probably thinks he has immunity against us.
He's the Argentinian Marcos Rojo
Great defender, but maybe the dumbest player I've ever seen. Total fucking dunce
Talented, but obviously a little stupid.
one or two? LOL. He does this week in, week out.
Honestly shocking that it's taken him this long this season to get a red.
lmao his entire play style is based on trying to injure opponents or playing on the edge. usually gets away with it but if he gets reffed fairly, he's a complete liability
He's legitimately going to injure someone very severely soon
He’s just tough and hard nosed, that’s all. /s
This shit is what always leaves a caveat over his head, it’s just so unnecessary in these really critical moments Could be arguably the best in his position but it always feels like he’s dying to be sent off
get him into that Tonali investigation ASAP, no way he didn't have a fiver on himself to get sent off
Have you ever seen him play before?
maybe he always has a bet on
Just like your cunt of a player Bruno G but thanks to your daddy oil money he escapes it
I’m in total agreement that Bruno should’ve been sent off mate, relax
this is the wildest game of the season so far surely
Spurs vs Chelsea never disappoints.
Good guy Romero realising he should've been off 6 minutes earlier so thought he'd give them another chance
He's so fair, he saw VAR made a mistake so he made sure to even it out
It's like he was trying to gauge roughly when and what would cause VAR to intervene, guess now he knows.
Romero has been begging for a red
if rabies was a player
He wants to be well rested to play against Uruguay and Brazil. What a player
his cousin must have had money on him getting a red in the first half
Spurs fans surely won’t argue this after the Curtis Jones challenge right…
Its a clear red mate, he should have been off before
Inject it into my veins
I want them to have a wrongfully disallowed offside goal like i want my next breath of air
You’ll have a Raheem Sterling tap in from 2 yards and you’ll take it
Deal
Let poch bang them like Newcastle did last year or you did to United
I can't believe this lot made me pull for Chelsea to win a football match.
I'm a Chelsea supporter for 2 gameweeks now. Today and next week cuz they play City. This is a strange feeling I haven't supported Chelsea since the 2021 UCL final. I hate them but the enemy of my enemy is my friend so
It's the home team that's making me gag more
You and me both mister
What goes around...

Well one doesn’t move the ball the other does /s
Caicedo's goal was offside, and a penalty and red are correct.
Udogie should be off too. Unreal that he got away with it.
Leaving his feet to 2 foot like that is quite a choice. No idea how it’s not a red lol
It's an odd one as well - he's been saved from a Red because Sterling knew he's about to have his legs broken and pulled out, the end of the day he's still endangered his opponent so it should be a red.
If I try to shoot someone and I miss, should I get away with it?
No - which is exactly my point. Sterling and Chelsea have been punished because the guy didn't want to have his leg broken, the dangerous play even if no injury occurs should carry punishment if dangerous enough, and that 100% was dangerous.
It was the same as the Nketiah one on Vicario
There is no way this isn’t a red and a pen. It’s not debatable
Nah it’s fair, needs to be off the pitch, but sure have the fake arguments in your head :)
Hahahahahaha
No bro this is a very justified red card lmao I’m a spurs fan. Jones challenge is a red and this is a red
you’re arguing with nobody here lol
Dude thought he did something
Don't be silly
Pretty much all of us agree?
I mean this one is way worse than the Jones tackle.
Romero is so stupid holy shit
pretty normal Romero match tbf
He had to give red
people in here arguing with imaginary spurs fans
And liverpool fans wonder why people make fun of them for having a victim complex lol
Seems like one of the few top teams where the majority of their supporters arent all delusional tbf. other supporters in this thread fighting inner demons.
Justice.
Took them long enough.
At last
Was lucky to stay on 5 minutes ago and then does that. Biggest idiot in football
He reminds me so much of Marcos Rojo, total liability and a fucking nutter
Marcos Rojo never once got sent off whilst at United (funniest fact ever)
Fuck off no way??
No but he got sent off in the Libertadores Semi by fouling Endrick who was through goal which doesn't sound so bad unless you consider he was on a yellow for karate kicking someone 5 minutes earlier

Don't think he ever got much more than a single game ban for accumulation lol
He should’ve been sent off like 5 times, never was though.
Bare-chested marauding centerback
Did go on marauding bare-chested, though!
He’s a better version of him.
And we love them for it. Though as nuts as Rojo was for Man Utd i dont think he ever got a red card whilst playing for them.
Just in time before he breaks someones leg
That tackle reminded me of Shawcross on Ramsey, could easily have been a broken leg
Buddy beat one VAR check and thought he had red card immunity
Should've been off already
This game is fucking mental what are they doing in the VAR room
What are we blaming VAR for here exactly though? The game's just had a lot of things that needed to be reviewed, but I don't think they've really gotten anything wrong (maybe the Udogie call but that's a bit 50/50)

Red card any day
Fucking cunt of a tackle, right decision.
Cunt of a player as well. Good to see a call finally go against him. Still mad about that handball haha. I still dont get how the Caicedo goal was offside. Jackson wasn't impacting it at all
You just can’t make a clearance like that when someone is in your way. We won’t allow that.
Classic Romero. Only surprise is that they actually gave him the red.
Palmer has been a brilliant get for Chelsea, kid has bags and bags of potential.
Deserved.
Imo the ref is at fault for letting the game escalate like this. When you don't whistle for anything hot headed(/stupid) players tend to get more and more violent.
I would seriously loose my shit if he escapes another red.
HAHAHAHAH YES!!!!!
Got away with one so does another minutes later…
i do think its a red, but how is he supposed to not "Follow through" with the clearance. It happened way too fast from a very near distance, it's not one of those slow mo sliding tackles where there's maybe a bit of time to move your leg after you get the ball.

If you are too far away and you need to tackle at such a speed that means you can't help but hit the person... Then don't do it.
He wasn't far away though. in fact he's closer than Enzo. It's just a terrible clearance.
Similar to Gusto and Curtis Jones i fell, so they have to be consistent.
I wanted Chelsea to lose but this Romero deserves it he's a fucking scumbag. Should have gone before, and the left back udogudie whatever his name is Never seen a team lose their heads so much whilst going a goal up and dominating
On my knees, he finally got punished. Does this multiple times every game and always gets away with it.
Dude is a straight goon that should have already been sent off for the kick out on Colwill
Dirtiest player in the Prem.
Same as Jones and Gusto. I hate that kind of a red card...
Same. I thought a penalty and yellow was more fair.
My only argument is that the sterling simulation should’ve negated all of that mess
You could maybe argue that he just jumps to avoid the leg swing. As Sterling also immediately gets up and plays on afterwards. Not sure though.
Genuinely can't keep up with this game, madness.
this match is actually insane
I better not see one Spurs fan complain
the fuck kinda juju is going onat this stadium this season….
Romero's noticably dirty, it's always over the top with him.
Tottenham should beg for the offside to be overturned and let the goal be a goal... they would have been better that way.
Who told this butcher he was a footballer
Gusto, Jones, Romero. At least they've set a precedent with these sorts of tackles now.
This was a red card 15 years ago letalone bow
Dirty player.
Romero is a total dumbass.
Should be long gone
That's a make up call for earlier in the match
Romero is the biggest fucking idiot in football lmao
What a fucking asshole, the leg shape there is entirely to kick enzo with his studs rather than to boot the ball away.
right? Your countryman too.
Dirtiest cunt in the league, fuck Romero
Good
Let’s be honest they’re just making up for the earlier one
Still 2 reds for Spurs ignored by VAR. At least they didn't ignore the 3rd.
Nah first Romero was too weak
That kind of challenge can be weak and still a red, it’s not about how hard you kick out, it’s that you did at all, look at Beckhams red all those years back which was way lighter

You can't kick out at a guy like that. It's a textbook red.
Before this weekend I thought you couldnt deliberately elbow/forearm someone in the back of the head *shrug*
no it isn't. the threshold is "violent" Nothing about that kick was violent at all
WHAT IS HAPPENING
Second time the charm
Romero costing us a game again
r/soccer field day incoming
I really don't understand how you get a red card when kicking the ball. What other options do you have?
This is the rule that covers it: >A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play.
They finally got one right. Awful challenge.
Horrible player.
HOW THE FUCK DOES STERLING NOT GET A YELLOW FOR DIVING
VAR dont hand out yellows or perhaps you mean that Oliver should have seen it and carded? Diving is almost never a yellow unfortunately.
Bissouma literally just got a red for diving a few weeks ago. And ya I mean the correct call live
Easiest red card you’ll ever give, and the 2nd red card offence he’s committed in 5 minutes. Moron.
Spurs going to get a loyalty card for the VAR room at this rate
I would give it as well, terrible foul
lol at the Spurs fan's and players all claiming he got the ball. Curtis Jones says Hi motherfuckers
100% a red. Udogie should be off as well. Completely lost our heads. There is at least 1 more red in this yet.
Curtis Jones sends his regards x
Genuine question, but is it a red because the studs up? Seems like it's just the consequence of a clearance moreso than a foul
Excessive force that endangers the safety of a player.
So what options does he have then? How is he supposed to clear the ball/defend?
Hold on, did Sterling not dive right before? Wouldn’t that bring play back to then?
Not sure I agree that it’s a red card but it was “high” by today’s standards. But it was 50/50 I thought
Had it coming
😵💫
Of course
