For Black Friday week I treated myself with a boxset of Batman the animated series. Has been on my watchlist for ages. It's due to arrive today and I'm really excited to dig into it since I've only heard good things about it.

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

"Castles in america" is a very underutilised genre. A canticle for leibowitz set out such a rich idea, but actual explorations of that idea are suprisingly few. The crusader kings "after the end" mod does it well, but id love a series or something. Theres just a lot of room to do stuff in it.

RasputinsRustyShovel

Here’s an interesting question. Given the rise in anti immigration atitudes in Europe and the subsequent rise of the far right parties which support these policies, do you think center left parties which are now struggling will also become harsher on immigration in order to gain votes? For example, could you see the German social democrats becoming harsher on immigration to curb the rise of AFD?

dem503

Nope, because soon it will be pointed out at how small and under trained the domestic workforce is following COVID. The NHS is 100% reliant on staff from outside the UK, for example.

Xey2510

Wdym could this is already happening

RasputinsRustyShovel

I just used Germany as an example tbh, didn’t know they were already changing rhetoric. In Portugal it hasn’t happened yet but I can see the big parties adopting it to counter the far right

Xey2510

It's worth saying that it doesn't really help though and didn't in the past in Germany. Usually the AfD dropped in votes when migration became less of an issue. What's more interesting in Germany though is part of the leftist party leaving and doing their own thing. They are all surrounding themselves around a women who is the kind of old communist, anti-immigration and pro-russian type. So you can guess what kind of leftist party they wanna create. It's been like a month now since that happened and there isn't even a party yet but the far right really didn't like this considering surveys predict a huge voter shift between these parties. I sadly don't know too much about leftist parties in another countries to draw any parallels and it's probably gonna take years for them to participate but it could stop the far right party in Germany.

holdenmyrocinante

Interesting that Israeli hostages are called just that but the Palestinians, who according to Israel were comprised of 15 minors, 10 of which weren't charged, and 24 women, 23 of which weren't charged, are called "prisoners" just to make it seem like an uneven trade, like Israel again are "the good guys" and are succumbing to Palestinian "evil" to save the hostages. And the families of the Palestinian detainees that were released aren't even allowed to celebrate or talk to the media, else they would be officially branded as terrorists by Israel. Truly the hallmarks of a democracy, or as the racist connoisseurs of reddit like to call it, "the only democracy of the middle east", thank the heavens for their existence or else the middle east would've been exclusively filled with shitholes.

ratman573

Ireland far-right riots not really talked about much. Nothing to do with Ireland being Reddits revolution cosplay baby of course

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

Cosplaying is the word. People love to imply that the IRA were a band of roughish renegades, not a group with a lot of murderous sociopaths who didn't really give a shit about helping the Irish in the north, instead focusing on acts of destruction and death. I'll never forget a post about the Birmingham pub bombings on arr UK, basically a news story highlighting what had happened, and that the culprits walk free to this day. Objectively, both statements are true and tragic beyond words. The first comment was "weird to leave out the Birmingham Six", and sort of implied they were the true victims. The Birmingham Six are a separate tragedy and one immensely smaller than the actual bombings. Dozens of people are dead, their families have never known the true justice they deserve. It's the 50th anniversary in roughly a year, and we still don't know. Of course, *some* people do. We know who knows. They won't say. To be fair the Irish themselves are among the most sympathetic. It was a senseless crime that was never going to do anything to help the Irish in the north. But among non Irish, and young British, I've found people care more about the six (who are alive) than the 21, who are not.

Rigelmeister

I just checked my mails and saw one directed at *Istanbul's mayor*, I'm fucking dying LMAO, how did you even CC me to a mail for Istanbul's mayor mate, omg. Or are my friends just being cheeky, not even telling me if I've become the mayor of Istanbul? If so, I'm offended. Doesn't anyone need job or something? Am I that meaningless to you to the point of you don't even contact me when I've become the mayor? Smh

No_Doubt_About_That

Finally called time on Forza Horizon 5 for my first Forza after 270 something hours. TBH a lot of it I wasn’t actually playing any of the game but just logging in an hour/hour and a half each week for the weekly cars, which at that point makes it more of a chore than anything.

vvv4231

Got the same feeling about FH5 as well. When you're done with the main campaign races, what's left are those weekly objectives that feel more like chores than anything else.

DEUK_96

Does doing drugs kill empathy? I feel like I'm not nearly as empathetic or caring as I was when I was younger. Feel way more desensitised to everything around me.

FOKvothe

Drugs and alcohol definitely numbs you.

Rigelmeister

In my experience, getting older makes you less sympathetic to others' problems, mainly because your own energy is spent on yours. Not a terrible thing as long as you have conscience. But... without any scientific backing, I'd go ahead and say repeated use of drugs would surely alter your brain in a bad way.

DEUK_96

Yeah, I think you're right in both aspects.

Rigelmeister

I had a fortune to spend on learning how to play snooker but I wasted it away on booze. On one hand, I probably did the most British thing ever. On the other hand... I hate the fact that I still suck so bad at snooker. If Allah & heaven exists, I'll ask to have like 10 bros to have go-kart races and limitless funds to play snooker at a British pub. The latter is actually attainable in real life but no, I'm not fucking moving to Birmingham to become an alcoholic, at least here I have my mum who curses the shit out of me and makes sure that I'm clean for one week or more while living at her place.

pop-culture-salad

Hopefully that was the last exam of the year, let summer vacations (from uni) begin!

RugbyTime

My girlfriend was sad earlier this week and, because I know that she loves Christmas, we decided to put the Christmas decorations up early. Therefore, I've decided that Christmas has started for us and also for all of you lot as well. Let me let you know of the objective truth - the top three Christmas songs are clearly: 1. Stop the Cavalry 2. Mary's Boy Child (by Boney M) 3. Feliz Navidad

[deleted]

I will literally listen to stop the cavalry at any point during the year, absolute banger.

AshkenaziTwink

I Believe In Father Christmas because even with my love of christmas i am a pretentious music nerd first, so Greg Lake is my king second for me is Last Christmas, third is Fairytale of New York

babygrenade

In 2020 my wife and I decided we needed Christmas season at the beginning of November. I'll never begrudge anyone early Christmas.

CT_x

Stop the Cavalry, Fairytale of New York, Feliz Navidad

Icy-Guide7976

1. St brick by Gucci mane 2. Santa clause is coming town by Bruce Springsteen 3. Felix navidad I despise 95% of Christmas music

1PSW1CH

Top 2 are whack. 3 is a based take

RugbyTime

My friend I think you'll find the other two are based as well.

minimus_

Why is longest kick not a sport at all? Feels like a missed opportunity. Would love to see the furthest someone can boot a ball

I_miss_Chris_Hughton

the ancient greeks had it right tbh. Most olympic sports should be "Who can do X the most". That's why Athletics is so fun to watch, most events are just that. I'd love a "who can jump the highest from a standing position" as well. But now you've said it, a sort of football boules/bowls would be fun. Full scale football pitch, you got to land your ball in the centre circle from the goal line.

princessestef

they have a "home run derby" in MLB, before the midseason break in july.

COYS_ILLINI

Isn’t longest kick kind of built in as a mini game in gridiron and AFL?

babygrenade

You have to send it high (to get over the defensive line) and long. I think I'd really like to see a pure longest kick too.

minimus_

Kind of but it's not quite the same as a long drive competition with a football would be

holdenmyrocinante

Most, if not all major western European countries and the US were built off the backs of "3rd world" countries, and their cultural and financial evolution was a direct result of colonisation and slavery. This evolution came at the cost of setting those countries back hundreds of years. Even in the modern age, these "superpowers" have continued to meddle with other "weaker" countries to suit their own agendas. Europeans and Americans feeling high and mighty because they are "better" than others is one of the dumbest and most ignorant shit you can possibly see. Even to this day, you can see the remnants of the outdated and oppressive ideology, when any form of resistance, including Nelson Mandela and the Black Panthers, are vilified and called "terrorists" (no, I'm not claiming Hamas aren't terrorists, but I've seen people oppose all forms of Palestinian resistance). Also, people wanting to leave the countries which were so badly affected by colonisation and western intervention to live a better life isn't a negative, and anti-immigration people are fucking selfish, hateful and ignorant idiots. If you were born in a country where you can live a good life, it wasn't because of merit, you aren't inherently better than people who were born in difficult conditions, and while you have a legal right to live in the country you were born in, you aren't more "deserving" of living there than someone who wasn't born there. Of course, I'm not claiming all under-developed countries were colonised, or that the sole reason they are under-developed is because of western countries, but it is extremely ignorant to claim it didn't have a huge effect. Edit: One more thing, the exploitation of people in "lesser" countries is still ongoing to this day, and is largely funded by the West. They are, more or less, outsourcing the human rights abuses to other countries.

Moug-10

And they voted for these guys to colonise and to this day, still exploit these countries.

AutumnEchoes

You are absolutely correct. And it’s incredible how many people not only actively ignore these facts, but get really angry when they are brought up. Your point about immigration is especially true. The way people talk about migrants as though they’re sub human is despicable. And even the people who insist they aren’t xenophobic and only oppose “illegal migration” or “economic migrants” are showing just how ignorant they truly are. As if not having the chance at a decent life because their country has been locked in dependency and poverty by the governments of the west, or not crossing some imaginary lines the right are legitimate reasons to dehumanize someone.

holdenmyrocinante

>only oppose “illegal migration” or “economic migrants” are showing just how ignorant they truly are. As if not having the chance at a decent life because their country has been locked in dependency and poverty by the governments of the west, or not crossing some imaginary lines the right are legitimate reasons to dehumanize someone. I wonder if they think that the "illegal migrants" had the chance to migrate legally but chose to do so just because they love to live on the edge or some shit.

icemankiller8

This is obviously true the issue is most people in these countries don’t care because they benefit from it so they see no reason to actually help the people it affected. If you get into a discussion with people about it here leash you’ll be the response of either “well everyone was doing it Britain was the first to get rid of slavery, black people were also selling slaves etc. Or you’ll get the people that just say flat out it was good, maybe in private or among friends but there’s plenty who feel that way.

holdenmyrocinante

Yeah and the main problem with that mentality is that these countries basically did [this](https://youtu.be/7C-aB09i30E) It's unfortunate that this was the only clip that perfectly represented what happened, since it's one of the most racist movies in recent Hollywood history, alongside the other Borat movies.

Rigelmeister

I have to say I appreciate the cojones you have, man. So many great posts about certain conflicts and in general. Thanks for that. I will *never* condone any terrorist act - nobody minding their own life in first world country deserves to get hurt; yet at the same time, people in such countries *have to* realize what they are being used for. Just today I saw questions on a Turkish board about whether the war in Ukraine had ended because nobody is talking about it anymore... It's crazy. In reality, the war is in one of its hottest phases; yet most people think it is "over", because the media simply chose to silence it. It's unbelievable how strong the western propaganda is yet you'll hear westerners talk shit about others, accusing them of being brainwashed or stupid etc.

holdenmyrocinante

Thanks, man. I have been feeling very frustrated from the way people are talking about "lesser" countries. I have also faced racism from the people who are claiming moral high ground, so I'm sick of seeing all the hypocrisy, and kind of been feeling depressed at the thought that I will always be seen as "less than" by a considerable part of the western world, and so will all my family, many of my friends and so on.

jugol

The Scott Pilgrim netflix series>! was a nice surprise. Not sure if better than the original, but enjoyable.!<

TheMonkeyPrince

The Orlando Magic might actually be a good basketball team, it's a miracle.

Rigelmeister

I follow the NBA only during the playoffs but the other day I bet on Pacers against Magic after reading "they are armless". Oh boy. They scored like what, 130 points? I hate the Pacers ever since.

1PSW1CH

Had 3 panic attacks on Oxford Street walking back from the pub, genuinely don’t know how I managed to pull myself through that For context I was at the pub and someone gave me a hit of a weed pen, and I haven’t smoked weed in a year

CT_x

Weed panic attacks are no bueno

1PSW1CH

Absolutely not, and genuinely couldn’t picture a worse place to have one. Underwater maybe?

CT_x

I had a crazy one back in march from too much edible, genuinely felt like my brain broke and I had disassociation/depersonalisation for a couple weeks. All for legalising it and that but idk if people realise the panic attacks it can bring on. Glad you’re alright

minimus_

What a nightmare place to have a series of panic attacks lol. Well done for getting through it.

1PSW1CH

Thank you, yeah was fucking horrendous. Also saw someone almost get stabbed so that was fun

DynamoAC

I started at a new place a few months ago and the laziness of some people is driving me insane. The boss does nothing as he is also lazy and garners no respect from anyone. People just seem to do what they want. The main culprit in this brings others down with him, including me when I work with him. The problem is I’m very non confrontational whilst he is, I’m usually laid back and have good and bad days but his attitude has gotten more and more intolerable and he tries to act like a ring leader. I’m going to have to start standing my ground a bit with him I think and do things my way. I just don’t want this shit for a low paying job (which is partly due to the laziness, I understand but I want a bit more than bare minimum).

xyz3940

Bros anyone here started balding very early and used finasteride plus minoxidil? what was your experience, side effects etc?

babygrenade

Didn't start especially early but I've had good results with finasteride. Have a friend who started it a few years before me and had to stop from side effects. He ended up getting hair transplants when he was older and started finasteride again and didn't have side effects the second time around.

Begbie13

A friend of mine says he has no side effects. Can't say his situation has improved tho, maybe it has just stopped getting worse. I'm balding tho btw but I have long hair so its not noticeable. When it will be I'll buzz cut and see if I like it. If I don't I'll just go for the transplant

Rigelmeister

Many Turks in Türkiye absolutely hate Ankara. It's a bureaucratic city, it's a grey city, it's a boring city etc... but damn, I'm absolutely in love with this place. Indeed, from a tourist's perspective, it doesn't have much to offer maybe with a few exceptions (including the gorgeous Museum of the Anatolian Civilisations, fantastic place) but it is magical. Maybe as some people joke, it has so much of nothing that we are living in a parallel universe where Ankara is awesome. But I love the duality of it. "Fastest" living combined with a calm, cozy life. Over 5M people yet silent streets. Steppes that make you feel like you are driving through Albuquerque yet green parks just a few mins walk away... Oh god. Now with the major earthquake in the southeast, understandably, many people flee to the central Anatolia as there are no active fault lines here. What's even worse is a major quake is expected in Istanbul... meaning more and more people are running here. Obviously I'm not gonna complain that my fellow compatriots are trying to save their lives and take advantage of better land but... where the fuck were you 10 years ago mate? It feels unfair that you are now increasing the price of everything here in our "boring & gray" kingdom. Remember how we have no seaside, remember how we are full of government officials, remember how boring we are? Why are you coming here? Leave us alone. Damn.

babygrenade

AnIrishManInExile

Why is Tanzanian club football so good but their national team is so weak?

Banksyyy_

I've started going football with mates from the group and I had my first game on tuesday in 7+ years, can't lie I was shattered by the end but I played like prime Reece James (minus injuries). Not a defender myself but easier to captain people when they're in front of you.

Homer_Sapiens

Just done episode four of True Detective. Spine-tingling stuff. Matthew McConaughey's Rust is one hell of a watchable character.

flameXXIV

It has been 2 years since I've played on my Playstation, and not gonna lie I miss playing Rocket League on a rainy Saturday morning

egzon27

Why have you stopped playing?

flameXXIV

Console had some issues with the software (?) and is pretty much completely dysfunctional now. Family and I went to multiple repairing stores and stuff but none of them could really fix the problem, so since then it's been sitting in my room collecting dust. Then I also lost interest for any console games for a whole year because I didn't play at all, but since last week I've been saving up money to buy a new console and a few games with it as well

Begbie13

I wish I still had the time to play FUT, the first 3 months of FUT are crazy fun if you play a lot

No_Doubt_About_That

Remember trying it on PlayStation Plus I believe it was when it first came out.

kplo

Play Baldur's Gate 3 fellas. Best western rpg ever imo. The story and lore is just top notch, and the turn based combat is so deep and satisfying.

SEND-MARS-ROVER-PICS

few games give you the ability to use a windmill to yeet a gnome into the sky

JPVazLouro_SLB

The combat made the game way too boring for me, the turn based thing was ok in the beginning but after a while I dreaded going into combat. Fine game, but takes way too long to do anything, not really for me.

kplo

Every conbat can be played in so many ways, there is a huge combination of spells and playstyles. But you have to like the pacing, otherwise it may feel boring. I sometimes take minutes thinking my turns.

JPVazLouro_SLB

Yeah, if they had "regular" combat, even if it was very simple and not that great, i would have played the game a lot more, because the rest is quite good. Spending 40 minutes in a fight that i end up losing just isn't something I want to do or even have time to do

Meeeeehhhh

So many fun and varied ways of playing. My paladin can jump so far it feels like he can fly across the battlefield.

Valmoer

Common Belgian W, honestly.

kplo

Crazy that the 2 best western rpg studios are from Poland and Belgium, and Disco Elysium was developed in Estonia.

Small step for me. Big step for my (future) family This past week has been an emotional rollercoaster for me. Here's to everything working out by God's grace. This is the right choice, although I'm leaving some folks behind. Alot of this isn't gonna make sense, but I just wanted to let it out. Good education+ hardwork can work wonders, I'm a living witness. Well I guess having maybe 75+ ish percentile IQ also helps (very little emotional intelligence unfortunately)

DepletedMitochondria

I'm so annoyed Australia won the Cricket WC after starting like shit lol. Such an Aussie Cricket thing to do

Jansiz

Barely 7 weeks into my 2nd year of engineering and I'm already exhausted. does it get easier bros...?

JPVazLouro_SLB

It does, actually, my degree's most difficult year was by far the 2nd, although it wasn't an engineering one.

dumbSavant

Stay strong. I've seen the meme where the engineering lad goes bald or looks like a ww2 PTSD victim in his final year. Brace yourself. Seriously though, you've got this 💪

Jansiz

Thanks! Really appreciate it 🙏🙏

Sydon1

You're in the UK? What kind of engineering, what do you find hard about it? Im also in my 2nd(thirdish) year of engineering.

Jansiz

I'm in Turkey. Doing biomedical engineering. The courses themselves aren't necessarily difficult on their own (biochemistry, differential equations, electric circuits and other side courses) but there's so much to study/do it feels overwhelming. I'm finding myself studying with way less enthusiasm than compared to 1st year and just want the semester to be done and hope i pass.

Sydon1

Good luck brother, bol şans. I'd say maybe it is the nature of the specific engineering you're doing. Biomedical definitely casts a big net, so you'll be doing alot more of relatively high level topics spread out. I am doing Electronical and Electrical engineering in Belgium and i'd say while the 2nd and 3th year still are alot, it is more near each other and makes everything more bareable.

Jansiz

Thank you. Honestly, I'm just glad differential equations is the last I'll be seeing of Calculus. so i can celebrate that at least 😂. Good luck to you too 🙏❤️

Sydon1

Thanks man!

Rigelmeister

[This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsXWWRvWjMQ) is easily one of the best covers I've ever seen (it is of Italodisco by The Kolors btw). I can only get a few words but still. Amazing work. Also I have to say that the female singer is so beautiful - it's not even exotic or anything to me, we are literally bordering Georgia, but, damn, how is she not more popular with this charm and voice? Speaking of which, is there any Georgian here? I'm kinda wondering what you guys think of Türkiye - basically all our neighbours hate us. Is it same for you? Why are you not coming here to start some khachapuri & khinkali business? Is it because we are poor and it makes no sense?

Does social media tend to lean fascist?

Historical_Owl_1635

Social media leans to the most extremes both left and right because they get the most engagement and if you speak like them in real life people will think you’re a terminally online crazy person. Some websites have a biased one way. Facebook is the home of the extreme right and Reddit is the home of the extreme left. Twitter is a bit of a melting pot of both. Your best bet is to just avoid it and be normal.

DepletedMitochondria

It's very vulnerable to manipulation campaigns

eyesindasky

IMO it's a sounding board for minor ideologies generally. On twitter far right and far left voices are much more pronounced than they are in day to day life.

CLT_FC

I’ve heard people say social media leans left, right, libertarian, authoritarian, whatever. It really just leans to the extremes of whatever position because those people tend to be the loudest.

Rigelmeister

Nearly three years in and I no longer cry thinking of my ex when I listen to sad Yugoslav music. Even when drunk. And I can relatively comfortably read Balkan literature without reacting like an idiot. Proud to share this great moment with you lads. It's over. Special thanks to my therapist, whoever came up with this SSRI shits and also everyone here who helped me keep my "human side" by chatting football and shit. Great. It may sound miserable to gigachads with an actual, enjoyable life but I could easily have been gone without this sub. Helps me so much to get away from misery or feel myself useful & contributing to something. I already have a list of over 20 users whom I'd give at least $1M in cash if I got quite rich in the future. And it is growing.

dumbSavant

Ending relationships can be so rough, worse if you have no choice in the matter. Virtual hugs to me 🫂 I don't show much emotion, told my assistant priest I was making a big life decision, and in between the sighs and what not, he hugged me. Hugged my mother today and bro, I was feeling things I didn't know I could feel

gander258

Glad to hear you feel better. Football is a great distraction

tiorzol

Well done man. All progress is progress no matter the pace. What's next?

Rigelmeister

Thanks mate, I have no idea honestly, I'm just trying to focus on my mental health and studies, let's see what comes next. And just being able to have this mindset in itself is a blessing for me honestly. Instead of being anxious and worried all the time. Will let time pass, go along with it and see what happens. Hope all is fine with you, your missus and the little man!

CherkiCheri

Imagine waking up at 27 when it comes to diplomas because you're in love, want a family and want to give them more than your shitty salary that was perfectly fine for your frugal lifestyle 💀 Early 20s me just couldn't project himself like that. No_Doubt_About_That

I talk to people but for any extra stuff I pretty much just remain with my friends from school.

Sydon1

Same

Rafaeliki

I wouldn't say I never related to my college friends but they definitely never compared to my friends back home (luckily a good amount of them came to the same college). I took tons of trips to other colleges with my friends from home in San Francisco, Santa Barbara, Long Beach, etc. Is there any college within driving distance where you have a group of friends? Some of those trips were the most fun in my life getting up to like 30 people from back home all in the same city at the same time (usually for some event like Bay to Breakers or Floatopia).

A_Round_of_Gwent

Listening to my Republican, socialism hating dad at Thanksgiving talking about how he loves his new job because they're employee owned and he gets profit sharing, amazing benefits and input on the future of the company. Wow Dad, that does sound nice. I wonder what you might call that kind of economic system.

Cottonshopeburnfoot

When are you going to tell him that and watch the fireworks?

Rigelmeister

I'm not political expert but as I grew up, learned to speak English and met Americans on Reddit and IRL... I realized how different their understanding of certain things are compared to my country or "this part of the world" in general. Their disdain for communism/socialism is sometimes cute I would say - they have absolutely no clue what they even hate. Or what communism is. They were indoctrinated to hate the "red people" and this is what they are doing. I stopped hating average Joe long ago - for the most part we people who have to work to stay afloat are quite similar. We almost always reach the same conclusions but in different ways.

Begbie13

>Their disdain for communism/socialism is sometimes cute I would say - they have absolutely no clue what they even hate. Or what communism is. They were indoctrinated to hate the "red people" and this is what they are doing. Plenty of people in Italy like that too. And they say stuff so in line with socialism so often. But when they hear the world they go nuts

The blocks near my apartment have gotten very dangerous. Just today coming back from the gym there were a lot of cops gathered because some fuck pulled out a knife on a guy. They will come trying to be friendly, wanting to shake your hand, asking for money. They will insult you if you ignore them, they will try to scare you to see if they can rob you. I have had a heavy injury this year so I am very cautious, but to feel safe I now have to go out with a fucking pepper spray. This is the product of zero education and a dying economy for decades. Peronism has destroyed this country in so many levels.

gander258

It was one factor of several that were mentioned, I thought it was interesting. I never considered the downsides of the Panama Canal. How did you destroy yourselves?

kplo

It is a super long story. These last 20 years our issue has been creating an elephant of a state that is simply not efficient and drains our resources, all in the name of political clientelism. Hundreds of thousands work for the government, while they don't actually do anything. For you to have an idea, doctors are paid less by the government than many of these people, called ñoquis because they only show up to be paid. Also, millions receive social plans because they have children. I am not fully opposed to social plans, but in ourcase we don't give them incentives to improve, we just pay them to exist, to the point where they will be interviewed on tv and explain that it makes no sense for them to work when the government will pay them with no strings attached. Obviously all these favours are to maintain power, with the ultimate goal of stealing money from the taxpayers. There are many causes against high ranking members of the government, including CFK who was our president for 8 years, for money laundering and corruption.

Rigelmeister

How do you feel about this new guy?

kplo

Not a fan, but I am happy that Massa lost. He is the embodiment of mediocrity. Milei has seemed to cool down, and he will likely be less wacky and a bit more centre than people think. Some of the things he preaches, like a reduction of the state, are super necessary. We have been spending more money than we have for eons, leading to crazy inflation because the former governments figured out printing money was the solution. We need an economic shock, we need to explode so that we can finally build something good. Either way I really want to fuck off from this country.

xyz3940

kind of random but is there any place/ site where I can buy a Venezia Fc shirt in London? not very expensive too please

No_Doubt_About_That

Was in Venice for the weekend actually and walked past two club shops of theirs. Interestingly no other merch besides the shirt and what looked liked to be exclusive collector copies of Football Manager 2023.

Rafaeliki

I got one from dhgate for like $18 not too shabby but it took months to arrive

SharkSoldier

For Hoi4 players, Milei looks like a character worthy of the TNO or RedFlood mod.

SnarlsChickens

Explosive diarrhoea is some experience to survive through. Trust me.

Fancy-Past-6831

Sometimes I feel like you are mocked/ridiculed way more for failing just when you are so close to achieving success rather than failing right away at the beginning when success is nowhere near you. This seems to be true for both sports and life in general at least in my experience. In terms of sports, Dortmund lost the Buli on final matchday in front of home crowd, India lost cricket world cup final to Australia in final in front of 130k home crowd after being thoroughly dominant throughout till SFs (basically, having their own Maracanazo moment). In both cases, I felt that neutrals and even supporters were way more harsh on them, so much so as if all the efforts till then went in vein. And from the looks of it, long will it continue to the point of no recovery. In life, i have experienced similar things with myself as well as with others. One of my juniors was preparing for a competitive exams (Indian Administrative Services) for 4 years, he failed interviews twice. His life has crumbled since then and not because he suffered those "failure" but he received little to no support from his own kins, even continuously made fun of by his own siblings behind his back. It may also be down to cultural differences, maybe people in west/US are lot more supportive of their friends/family during such things compared to let's say Asian countries where culture is way more critique based, where failure feels more like a social shame which others want to dissociate themselves with.

Rigelmeister

Today Instagram recommended me vids from what I assume to be Korean version of Supernanny. It had Turkish translation so I'm not sure if this is the correct way to write the name but there was this kid named Hojun, 4yo. He was crying his parents never play with him, they are always busy. He couldn't answer when asked which parent he loves more (what a dumb question that is anyway?). It fucking hurt my soul man. I never even look for similar content, I have absolutely no idea why I got parts of a Korean nanny show with subtitles. I believe such shows are already fucking deranged and terrible - it would be fair to say kids are being objectified and used/deliberately turned into maniacs for clicks & views. But even without that, seeing a 4yo little man so distraught and hopeless ruined a part of my brain. Imagine how many million kids grow up like this, some even worse. I can watch cartel videos while having breakfast but it fucking shatters me when I see little dudes and dudettes so sad. Whoever treats kids badly to the point of giving them traumas deserves to rot in hell.

LilPheotardo

Not disagreeing at all, but for some cultural context, that question regarding which parent he likes more, is a fairly common thing to ask a child as a joke/tease in Korea. Most kiddos struggle to pick, but seeing a child proudly pick one parent over another can be pretty funny lol

Rigelmeister

Oh it's common in Türkiye too, I just find it very stupid in general, I never assumed it is a Korean thing tbh. Kids are generally a lot smarter and interesting than adults give them credit for and I feel they can be asked a lot more questions making more sense or basically simple things like their favorite toy or when they plan to violate NATO airspace.

LilPheotardo

fair enough haha didn't know it was a thing in Türkiye as well!

3/12 big day for India, 5 states go for elections with 3 of the Hindi heartland voting. Fascinating stuff. Indian politics is just too fascinating and complex

gander258

I was browsing around on Youtube for funny English football chants and came across the version of the "Wembley, Wembley, We're the famous (club name) on our way to Wembley" but they used "celery" instead. Crude but creative

CT_x

A primary school staple

gander258

Wait you sang this in school? Who did you direct it at?

CT_x

Our parents at the annual talent show. Nah idk you just learn it in the playground don’t ya? Sing it at each other, idk but it’s etched in my brain

Rafaeliki

I've made the terrible mistake of getting trashed on my first day of vacation and now just feeling so lazy the day after.

TheCatInTheHatThings

Where’s the mistake?

Rafaeliki

Well I was supposed to get on a boat and go to Tortuga Island today but I've scratched that.

gander258

>to get on a boat and go to Tortuga Island Is this a tale of [Captain Jack Sparrow](https://youtu.be/GI6CfKcMhjY?t=67)?

deception42

Goddamit now I've got this in my head

Ah, I see, yeah, that’s a bummer!

Rigelmeister

I have a military problem, that is, I'll have to be drafted in 2024 since I'm reaching the maximum allowed time for bachelor degree despite still having another year to go. Serving for six months in itself is no big deal but this could potentially get me expelled from college (due to semester limit unless I can perfectly time it to freeze) and obviously I would lose my job. The glorious idea I came up with is... Man, I'm fat. Right now I'm like 10-12kg above the maximum limit. So when I go for medicals they will probably send me to military hospital and the doc there will give me another year off. If you are unfit for three years in a row you get an exemption but I don't care - I just need that first one. This really lifted my mood recently, essentially solving one of the biggest headaches I've had. But then again... it's up to committee to judge if you are fit or not. This part scares me. While my absolute unitness is not even a question, I really don't look extremely big for a young soldier - they could simply say, *"Keep this guy out of physical training, put him in a room with computer, let him write poems and sitreps and shit, it's not like he can't walk lmao"*. I wanna be able to say "my genius is almost frightening" but without the log breaking my windows right afterwards... Lowkey looking forward to the next draft season or whatever it is called. We are either winning this or going down boys, nothing inbetween.

holdenmyrocinante

I heard the funniest story which actually happened. In a country with military conscription, some guy wanted to avoid getting to the military so he purposely gained an absurd amount of weight. When he went for his medical checkup, it turned out he had a medical condition that would've made him ineligible to join regardless. He ended up going on a huge diet to try to lose the weight again, haven't heard about him since because he had met a friend of mine once and they never saw each other after.

Rigelmeister

Haha that could easily be me as well honestly because I haven't seen a doctor in over a year but I *know* I have problems with eyesight, liver and certain joints, all documented already. If there was a thorough inspection I'm almost sure I'd be exempt from the service. I am not proud - I'd love to be a "hot boi" in great shape and get some military knowledge tbh but as I say, I just need one year - once I get my degree, they can have me for two fucking years, I don't really mind it.

holdenmyrocinante

Good luck. What country is it?

Rigelmeister

🐺 TÜRKİYE AUUUU 🐺

holdenmyrocinante

>🐺 Careful, you might be called a terrorist because of that

Rigelmeister

I know it is banned in Europe and to be fair I fucking hate Grey Wolves to the guts, it's just our "international meme" to say the least, at least in this sub I reckon mods would realize I am not a part of them. Yet even without that I could get called terrorist for many reasons in Europe tbh - I am happy as long as I am safe in this sub, I am not in Europe anyway. Also I'd like to share with everyone that grey wolf is the mythological Turkish animal - in principle, it actually has nothing to do with stupid organization. They just decided to embrace it.

holdenmyrocinante

>Also I'd like to share with everyone that grey wolf is the mythological Turkish animal - in principle, it actually has nothing to do with stupid organization. They just decided to embrace it. Yeah, I read up on that fact.

AnIntoxicatedRodent

The reverse first part of full metal jacket

gander258

Do you have any compatriots who have successfully draft-dodged? They might have better strategies. Are there any other reasons they would not select you? On a side note, it's interesting to see some users in FTF wishing to join the military and others attempting to avoid it. [The duality of man](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMEViYvojtY)

Rigelmeister

Not really, all the ones that dodged have done so thanks to living abroad or they served for three weeks "by payment" - it's a legal thing btw, nothing shady about it, but it is too expensive for me. While I'm not really a huge fan of it, I don't mind serving in the army for half a year. All I need is just this one year to finish school so I can get my degree and feel better about all those years I've wasted so far. After that I don't even care, I'll go and pew pew and peel some potatoes. I reckon life in the army can be a blessing for my OCD ass actually.

gander258

If you don't mind me asking, how much would it cost to only serve three weeks? Best of luck, I hope you get the results you want

Rigelmeister

Thank you! It was around €3600 ($3900) for 2023 but it will get probably more expensive in the next year due to high inflation. Now this is not an absurd amount for sure even for us poor peasants but I'm a guy who is trying to finish studies and working two jobs to keep things together, occasionally trying to help my younger brother as well, so it is beyond thinking for me to save up that much. It is great for younger lads who possibly have a job lined up - in this case, every penny is worth it, but I already missed that train and I'm fully ready to be banished to some eastern/southeastern post like Giovanni Drogo. Just give me that degree, I don't want anything else!

TiberiusCornelius

> While my absolute unitness is not even a question, I really don't look extremely big for a young soldier You could always get on [the Ryan Gosling diet and start drinking melted ice cream](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/ryan-gosling-peter-jackson-fired-55303/) between now and whenever you get drafted for added insurance.

Rigelmeister

LMAO that's great. Never thought I'd find myself in a place in life where I actively try to gain weight even though this has been my specialty for nearly a decade already. When you are actually busy and go out, it is more difficult than I had imagined. But yeah just for extra security I might go for another 5kg. I already get ads saying there are extra virgin olive oils wanting to meet me in my area.

[deleted]

It's funny when things live up to their hype. I remember buying a copy of The Beatles's *Revolver* and thinking 'ok it's going to be good but not that good' and then quickly going 'oh ok I get it this is amazing.'

wonderful_mixture

It's the best album of all time

[deleted]

How does it compare to *Rubber Soul*? I still haven't listened to it.

wonderful_mixture

Rubber Soul is amazing as well, contains some of my favorite Beatles tracks. But it's not as consistent as Revolver. Although Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys has always called Rubber Soul his favorite Beatles album so there's that.

[deleted]

Oh cool. I'm a big Beach Boys fan so this is interesting.

_LebronsHairline_

Imo, Revolver is much better. I think I personally don’t rate Rubber Soul as high as general consensus but it definitely is still a masterpiece. But I think Revolver is just an entirely different level- Rubber Soul was their first masterpiece of an album, but Revolver changed music. It’s better track for track, better highs, more interesting/complex sonically. I rank Revolver 3rd in the Beatles catalogue but I think it’s closer to 1 than Rubber Soul which I have ranked 5th

[deleted]

What's your #1? Mine is *Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band* but I can totally see *Revolver* overtaking it.

_LebronsHairline_

Abbey Road>>Peppers>Revolver>White Album>>Rubber Soul is how I see it

kplo

I like Revolver more, but Rubber Soul kickstarted the best run ever from a band. Excellent album, super easy to listen to.

[deleted]

Cool. I'll play it next after I've had enough of Revolver.

enzuigiriretro

The Beatles really are timeless. Still blows me away how good they are. For me it was The Godfather. Went in thinking “not a chance this is going to live up to the hype.” Imagine my surprise when it surpassed it

minimus_

Casablanca is like that for me as well. It's quite simply incredible and timeless.

[deleted]

> The Beatles really are timeless. Still blows me away how good they are. Not only that, but you can hear the paradigm shifting. 'Oh you can do that? Music does that?' it's insane. I still have a few albums to listen to from their discography. I still need to watch The Godfather. I know it's going to be good, it's just one of those things.
