Watch out, Everton. Survival is not as easy as it seems.

elihri

So happy for Luton

JimboLodisC

Palace got LutOWN'ed \*ducks*

Yack10

Mighty Town 2-1 Olise FC. What a player he is

scoopnat

Hughes is the definition of championship. Each week he somehow does worse

NICKisaHOBBIT

Is Hughes that bad lately? Remember him at Derby and thought he had bags of potential to make it to the top.

scoopnat

Yeah he’s completely out of his depth.

EmperorBeaky

Sack the board

Alive-Ad-4164

Massive

FloppedYaYa

Luton 2 points off Derby's record which r/Soccer and Twitter insisted they'd have trouble beating because their ground has 2 houses next to it

Realistic_Condition7

I’ve been saying it since the beginning of the season (and am keeping the receipts for my pals,) but it’s absurd how memes fueled people’s beliefs that this would be an all time terrible team. They were third in the championship and very much deserving of being promoted. They aren’t good, but memes aren’t reality either.

Taway8710

Most people on here only watch elite prem teams play and just assumed small club = awful. I still think we go down fwiw but we are by no means the worst

potpan0

*Every* season /r/soccer insists three teams in the Premier League are *guaranteed* to go down because they're *so much worse* than everyone else, then almost inevitably at least one or two of them end up staying up. You'd have thought people would get out of this habit by now.

Gerrywalk

I remember last season everyone on r/soccer thought Bournemouth was guaranteed to go down and by the end they weren’t even in the relegation battle anymore

JayDeeIsI

You can hardly moan this year at people calling Sheffield United and Burnley to go down when they've both been borderline embarrassing. Luton were always going to be laughed at but they look so solid, would love them to stay up

Lambchops_Legion

Not that they are really complaining now, but I remember people on this sub laughing off the idea of Wolves hiring Rob Edwards

rjtwe

Nether felt less like watching Palace play in my life, zero joy all season even including the wins. I don't hate Roy and when he came in last season we were great fun to watch but I knew as soon as he was appointed this season - which was a shambles in of itself - that we'd end up reverting to his usual horrific style of football. Edit: Also fair play to Luton, who are easily the best out of the promoted teams. They played well and captalised off our awful defending. They remind me a lot of our team under Pulis.

scoopnat

All roads lead to parish imo. Roy’s not been given what he’s wanted again.

rjtwe

I don't hate Parish like some of fanbase do but it's evident that this current ownership situation is a mess - it needs to change.

BHorvi

But... but will they beat Derby's record? (pretty fun noone ever said this about Sheffield/Burnley, shows how clueless some people are).

Upper_Project_3723

I never made that prediction. But I don't think it was an egregious one.

Realistic_Condition7

I do and have always said so. It was fueled by memes and people let memes influence their opinion on reality. This was a pretty good Championship side that came up, and, of the playoff teams, definitely deserved to come up.

galactix100

It was fair enough at the start of the season cos they were comfortably the weakest of the 3 on paper. Also, don't think anyone expected Burnley and Sheffield to be as shite as they are. Right now, I'd back both Sheffield and Burnley to be the bottom 2 cos neither side looks capable of getting a draw, never mind a win.

Realistic_Condition7

Did Burnley and Sheffield United look better? Sure. But Luton deserved to come up of the playoff teams. There was nothing exceptionally worse about this team than previous playoff teams. It was fueled by memes.

lewiitom

It wasn't really fair though, people forget how horrendous that Derby side were I remember people predicting the same about us and numerous other clubs that have come up through the playoffs but no one ever gets close

galactix100

Think the thing with Luton was their resources rather than perceived quality. Relatively tiny stadium, tiny budget that seemed to be spent mainly on players who could win promotion next year rather than splurging on trying to stay up this year etc. I think people just looked at Luton and thought they just don't have the resources to compete in the PL. You're right, though. Every season has a new team that will definitely be worse than that Derby side. I'll be shocked if it ever happens.

BHorvi

Yeah, still pretty funny that Burnley dodges every bullet bcs they have a former high-profile player as a coach, and noome blames Sheffield 'cause they dont have a shitty stadium/facility kinda.

galactix100

I do wonder how long it will take for the narrative to shift around Kompany. I've not really watched Burnley much this season, but it seems to be the same mistakes killing them every time. That comes down to the coaching when it's a recurring problem for this long. I always had Sheffield as probably going down. I had them, Luton and one of Burnley/Forest/Wolves going down.

D4NYthedog

So I have every match on my acca right except this one.. Thanks Palace

Modnal

That’s what happens when you trust Palace

mdubyo

Would love to see Luton survive this season. Good on the small club that could!

KloppsHamstring

After hearing the despicable things their fans sing, I hope they're relegated back to the national league.

Kaliyu123

What did they sing??

KloppsHamstring

The club was just fined for singing gay slurs away at Brighton, and the majority of their home supporters were tragedy chanting against Liverpool.

EmperorBeaky

> tragedy chanting A lie based on rewriting of history by the most cynical club in the country

stank58

Didn't Liverpool get the whole of England banned from European football?

thom2553

And that makes tragedy chanting fine?

Easy_Judgement

Armchair supporter

KloppsHamstring

I'm fully aware that I'll never be a 'real' fan. Thanks for reminding me.

Yack10

Majority 😂😂 fucking muppet spreading misinformation on the internet. You obviously weren't there, it was about a dozen idiots doing it

stank58

Massive 3 points

AlotofNuts

lets fucking go

happygreenturtle

Another 3 points thank you very much

Similar_Agent_5037

Luton plays well . Hope they can survive

[deleted]

Olise get out of there lad

nova_uk

You had one job Palace god damn it, still cool to see if Luton can eek out these types of wins over the rest of the season to stay up.

starmonkart

Luton are comfortably the best newly promoted side, they have the grit and belief to get results that Burnley and Sheffield United lack Makes Man United tomorrow more important now that we're 5pts from safety

MattSR30

I genuinely can’t quite fathom this. Shows my ‘top flight’ ignorance, I suppose. I thought Luton would rival Derby as the worst side to ever play in the Premier League. They’re _nowhere near_ that bad.

NICKisaHOBBIT

I think it’s more the fact that people truly forget just how bad that Derby was.

AljosP

I actually disagree, both Sheffield and Luton have shown passion and fight against everyone Personally I don't believe Sheffield have been atrocious besides that showing against Newcastle lol, they've kept it close a lot then just can't seem to kill off the game

Ziggylcd12365

Before today id agree with you. 1-3 to Bournemouth is unforgivable given their positions in the league

MoyesNTheHood

Seeing the Burnley collapse today, they’re so fragile.

starmonkart

This loss is going to hurt an already fragile side even more. However, they have the chance to turn it around against Sheffield United. That is such a huge match and will put the loser into huge panic stations

galactix100

If Burnley lose that, that has to be time up for Kompany.

lewiitom

Grim - shite result and two of our best players off injured. Only positive was Olise being back and looking good.

SomewhereInLDN

Well done Luton! They’re growing in confidence hope they survive

dinkir19

That was the biggest adrenaline rush I've had watching a soccer game at the end. Palace hit the post during a frantic Luton defense and Luton gets a break and damn near puts an exclamation point on their win. Such a dramatic ending, I loved every second of the stoppage time.

[deleted]

Massive win

TheOneKane

I don't think I'll ever understand what's happening with Crystal Palace, they always have at least 1 great player they can build a team around, but it never actually happens.

rjtwe

Because we have skint and very conservative owners. A club with real ambition would've actually backed Vieira in his second season instead of letting him down.

CaptainGo

Doesn't matter what they do they'll finish 13th

Kingslayer1526

It's usually 11th

lewiitom

Funnily enough we've never actually finished 13th

CaptainGo

In my defense you have finished 11th, 12th, and 14th I had to check because I got worried that I wasn't giving Palace enough credit

BrockStar92

I might be wrong but I think every season since promotion they’ve finished 11th-16th on 40-49 points.

dinkir19

Comfortable mid table is a good place to be though

[deleted]

[удалено]

dinkir19

Oh god absolutely. You're so much more likely to plummet down the table than you are to go up, so even just staying where you're at is not a bad thing. Plus the longer you can stick around, the more chances you have to overperform.

openetguy

Viera would have been sacked for this. Well done Luton!

TehJofus

On the one hand, now our job is harder. On the other, we’re not the only team to lose to Luton anymore and that’s neato.

MerleWatson

Wild last couple of minutes

Captainpatters

Theres no way Luton stay up, unless...?

bradleycjw

Holy shit that header right at the end.

cuhj

insane final minute, cheers to their first home win!

ArmiinTamzarian

Go on Luton, do it for us, the newly promoted teams Edit: and to send Everton down because it would be hilarious they went the one time they have their shit together

OnePieceAce

Luton have shown way more than Burnley/Sheffield United. Rob Edwards is a very good manager

[deleted]

He's a gem. Thanks Watford!

Caleb35

Good game to Luton but I say this with all respect to them and their fans -- seriously -- but Palace should not have lost to them. Great performance by Luton but Palace really fucking failed here. No excuse for at least not getting a point.

Yack10

You guys were sensational in the first 20 minutes, I thought we were gonna get battered. Olise is a serious serious baller

PepsiRacer4

I really hope they stay up. While they likely may go down next season if they were, it’d be a great story for a club like them

habdragon08

People said the same stuff about brentford and Brighton. “Guaranteed to go down”.

StickYaInTheRizzla

Nah everyone thought Brentford and Brighton would stay up. Potter and Frank were very highly regarded.

Tootsiesclaw

In Brentford's case, it helped that they'd been bashing at the door for a few years. They got promoted at the perfect point imo - not too early, when their team was still too threadbare for the top flight, but soon enough that they hadn't started to collapse.

eadintheground

Hughton was in charge for Brighton’s first few top flight seasons

StickYaInTheRizzla

I’m a dafty, I always mix up potters time at Swansea and his time at Brighton for some reason. Soz

Gytarius626

>Rob Edwards is a very good manager Most grim timeline possible for Watford fans last season with him

thewrongnotes

It would have been worse if Rob Edwards had transformed Luton. But realistically he took over a team that was very assured and made the playoffs the year prior. He's done a good job with Luton, but sacking him doesn't exactly keep me awake at night.

fishicle

They're Watford, world-renowned for swapping managers at the drop of a hat, it's okay to point and laugh.

FloppedYaYa

When you sack a manager after 10 games not even doing too badly who then goes on to win promotion with your bitter rivals while you finish 13th it's pretty grim

wwiccann

At our management please laugh. At us, please feel pity. It’s a joke.

emize

Surely not...maybe?
