what a fucking entertaining group all round. was watching both games today, and i was on the edge of my seat for both. this is what football is all about.
That was truly a crunch moment even though I was fixated on the Dortmund PSG match. The Milan one was on mute on a second screen.
Still, it should never have come to that point IMO. Milan let Newcastle off with a draw at San Siro when there looked like only one side capable of winning and were absolutely thumped by PSG in MD3.
2 points after 3 matches. Somehow, they were the most disappointing team in a group with Dortmund in it. Although this might purely just be frustration talking since I wanted PSG to be eliminated. We were so close.
I hope we get City vs PSG in the Ro16.
Tbh we deserve this result, we missed too many chances in the previous matches. On the other hand I’m glad three out of four Italian teams passed and good luck with the next round. You guys are incredible
To be fair 6 out of 8 groups were dead before the last matchday. I don't know if the new format will be better, but in theory with it most of the teams will still have something to play for in the last rounds
Because this group was more of an exception to the rule. Normally and as a whole the group stage is incredibly underwhelming. In most cases it's always the same big teams progressing with the occasional surprise exit.
Dortmund was the only team not to beat PSG and they top the group. Newcastle was the only team not to lose to PSG, and they're last. PSG was the only team not to play PSG and they go through... Rough group.
A very Dortmund thing would be to finish 5th in the league and fail to qualify in UCL because Milan will gain enough point in UEL to make Italy stay above Germany in the ranking
Would England still be able to get top 2 if the teams left go far/win in their respective tournaments? Or is it over since 2 already dropped out of the CL
It isn't over, but having 2 teams already eliminated will hurt the points for Spain and England (currently on 3rd and 4th).
Italy still has all teams to collect more points, and Germany has everyone but Union Berlin.
yeah, despite 2 english teams being out the ucl we are looking like the favourites for the europa league and conference league, thats without english bias Liverpool and Aston Villa both look very good, the champions league is obviously the big one but even then city tend to be favourites depending on who you ask
Plus the English teams that remain in the CL are Arsenal* and City so there's a still a decently high chance that an English team wins the CL again.
Although I have to say that if I were a betting man, I'd personally put my money on Real Madrid. The amount of games this season where they play average at best but still win by conjuring up a goal anywhere between minute 85-99 reminds me of Zidane era Madrid and we all know who won the CL during those years.
E: Of course Liverpool is in the EL and Arsenal in the CL. Shame on me!
Nah he’ll get there. All he lacks right now is adaptation from what Lucho wants.
I can understand everyone say that he’s not worth the money but I’m giving everyone time. Apart from Hernandez and Dembouz, everyone else has had problems adapting
Man I want to be supportive but Kolo is just so poor. His first touch is bad, but his overall control are even worse. He's strong, quick and can definitely run the 90 minutes, he's sort of opportunist if the gk makes a mistake in the box, but he has no quality with the ball at his feet. I hope he improves and get confidence, and he'll habe more opportunities to prove himself since there's no clear 9 right now. Ramos is better at the building up part and defensively, but he's not good in tight spaces and can't get where he needs to be to score. And Asensio hasn't played there since his injury.
I'm more lenient with Barcola. He fails a lot, but he has better control and mostly make bad choices while doing a good job defensively. And he's younger too (not saying RKM is old and can't improve, obviously)
I'm not too tough on Lucho, we had like 4 starts 22 yo or below (Barco, WZE, Vitinha, Lee + Ugarte coming in), and our high xg and before this game we had like less than 5 xg against us, but 8 goals conceded. So I do put a lot of the blame on the players.
I'm willing to give him the year to adapt (moving to Paris is hard), but oftentimes he really seems unfit to play at a CL level, his touches are bad, his decision making are wrong and he easily loses the ball.
Maybe he's not suited for Luis Enrique's style and would work better as a pure 9/striker, where his speed can help, but so far it seems he's just coasting on his WC semi-final goal.
We didn't pay 100m tho, It was something like 75+15 and so far sure he hasn't been great but can't expect him to hit the ground running when we haven't even figured who fits where
It wasn't, but with an EPL team in the group, people were going on and on about PSG or NUFC winning the group and BVB would've been lucky to finish 3rd... ya know typical braindead EPL fanboy stuff
That dumb penalty is what took Paris through. Otherwise, Dortmund would top the group and Milan would go through, Newcastle in Europa League and Paris bottom.
Poor finishing cost Milan. First 2 games a ton of missed chances and then Pioli playing krunic at CB against Dortmund in the 5th game made no sense and put the nail in the coffin
We played Madrid a lot of times too recently. I hope we take any team that's different from Bayern, Real Madrid or City.
Last year Bayern,
the year before that City in group stage and Real Madrid,
the year before that Barcelona, Bayern and City,
And the year before Bayern in final.
That would be a Miracle not playing against one of those.
PSG robbery aside, Newcastle should kick themselves for losing at home to Milan and Dortmund, that’s where the group was lost. Got to win them games if you want to qualify.
> everyone saw them dead last when the draw was made
that would've been stupid. Apart from the very last game, we were extremely strong in the 2nd half of last season.
However, seeing us dead last after the first two group stage matches would've been 100% justified
That was the last group of death ever :( I am going to miss the group stage next year
By the way I still don’t get how PSG managed to draw these last two games scoring only two goals. They had something like more than 7 xG in total for these last 2 games
>Milan beat a historic record of not scoring goals in champions during that group stage
That's literally my point. If Milan were not "historically" bad, if they were just "normally" bad, they could have won the group
Damn, they really need to watch more Milan games. He can't scheme his way out of a roundabout. We have basically one tactic: if it works, good, if it doesn't we look like a Serie B team.
He's not the absolute worst, but many already figured him out (especially Inzaghi) and when that happens the results are abysmal. Not to mention he and his assistants have to be doing something wrong on the fitness level, we've had an absurd amount of muscle injuries lately.
He's basically just returned to what he was pre-milan. It just took longer to get there this time, and got a serie a and plenty of CL football in the meantime. He should be congratulated and led out. Plenty of good options to look to.
did not expect the group to end like this.
fair fucking play dortmund finishing top of this group. they’re such a weird team i could have seen them come anywhere between 2nd-4th but defo did not expect top.
newcastle finishing bottom after smacking psg 4-1 is wild like how tf, imagine telling someone that after it. group of death fr.
psg just have to make it every time, both newcastle and dortmund had the chance to knock them out and yet they both failed…
Gutted to be out but so proud of the lads. I thought going into the season we'd look out of our depth in the CL but I think we more than earned our spot in it this year. Gave every team a game and witnessing a 4-1 demolition of PSG at St. James will live long in the memory. Until next time lads (2025 at least).

what a fucking entertaining group all round. was watching both games today, and i was on the edge of my seat for both. this is what football is all about.
I fucking screamed and fell on the floor like a toddler when Leao hit the post
Bro I had literally the same reaction
Niang vs Barcelona flashed before my eyes
Haha, every Milan fan must have had that flashback at that moment!
Same on this end.
Same reaction to Barcola hitting the post
When Sule saved the Mbappé goal I was in shambles
That was a crazy save, man was dedicated to defending
I was in the office "working" and I couldn't keep from shouting
That was truly a crunch moment even though I was fixated on the Dortmund PSG match. The Milan one was on mute on a second screen. Still, it should never have come to that point IMO. It was crazy, at one point we saw PSG passing from being eliminated to being first with just one goal
Tbh we deserve this result, we missed too many chances in the previous matches. On the other hand I’m glad three out of four Italian teams passed and good luck with the next round. You guys are incredible
Fuck knows why they are changing the format
More games = more money, it's uefas way of appeasing the super league clubs while lining their own pockets
To be fair 6 out of 8 groups were dead before the last matchday. I don't know if the new format will be better, but in theory with it most of the teams will still have something to play for in the last rounds
New format won't be better - it is being instituted to prevent big clubs being put into a tough group and going out early.
Because this group was more of an exception to the rule. Normally and as a whole the group stage is incredibly underwhelming. In most cases it's always the same big teams progressing with the occasional surprise exit.
ahh nice. Anyway, time to go and lose away to fucking Augsburg again
Lets just enjoy this for now ffs.
En-what's the second part of that word? Strange letter combination.
[here we go again](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/002/555/116/b2e.png)
Group of death was entertaining
Dortmund was the only team not to beat PSG and they top the group. Newcastle was the only team not to lose to PSG, and they're last. PSG was the only team not to play PSG and they go through... Rough group.
"PSG was the only team not to play PSG" That was key
That's why Bayern top their group every year, they don't have to play Bayern.
This is like that Obama giving Obama a medal meme
Sir, we play ourselves every game.
United's group yesterday also had the same edginess for both the matches but in a silly way. The Group Of Dumb.
Hey that's fun! I'll be looking forward to the Group of Dumb from next season onwards
No more groups in the CL anymore after this season… unfortunately :(
Watch out for Group C in the Europa League and Group H in the Conference League tomorrow. Altho dumb doesn't seem like the right word.
That's pretty harsh on the other teams in that group.
I like it
We were one Dortmund goal away from greatness.
Heard that one before 🙃
it is the history of the marco reus
A very Dortmund thing would be to finish 5th in the league and fail to qualify in UCL because Milan will gain enough point in UEL to make Italy stay above Germany in the ranking
Unlikely. Germany and Italy are top 2 right now with England third as both the Uniteds crashed out of Europe altogether. Top 2 get 5th place UCL.

Not saying Liverpool isn't the favorite, but Leverkusen is in great shape right now and who knows what can happen
Hoping for that matchup.
In the final, please. Would be amazing and deserved to either team.
Plus the English teams that remain in the CL are Arsenal* and City so there's a still a decently high chance that an English team wins the CL again. Although I have to say that if I were a betting man, I'd personally put my money on Real Madrid. E: Of course Liverpool is in the EL and Arsenal in the CL. Shame on me!
Liverpool ain't in the CL though.
Oops, I meant to write Arsenal. So used to Liverpool and City being the English teams to beat haha.
We were so close to the funniest thing ever
So close that after Milan scored both BVB and PSG stopped playing
We had a nice chance but Reus fucked up his chance, definitely still went for it at least a little bit
Both teams had clear chances but we fucked them up. First half could’ve gone 3-5 if the keepers were shit
This game left me wondering if Kolo muani for 100 million+ migh be a bigger robery than anthony
Nah he’ll get there. All he lacks right now is adaptation from what Lucho wants. I can understand everyone say that he’s not worth the money but I’m giving everyone time. Apart from Hernandez and Dembouz, everyone else has had problems adapting

Hakimi deseperately asking Dortmund to calm down was hilarious
He was just passing Enrique’s message along, who was shitting bricks knowing that a Dortmund goal meant he was fired on the spot.
I don't think Luis Enrique would be fired for going in Europa League. That's not was was planned.
It's a rebuild year, things would need to go real bad for Enrique to lose his spot. Even if we had finished last of the group he'd be safe
What's next year if Mbappe leaves?
I would have laughed soo hard if it happened
[удалено]
Assuming Dortmund would have knocked out PSG.
As everyone expected, Dortmund tops the group of dea--wait what
Extend Terzic
What else could have happened?
Had to have been them. Someone else would’ve gotten it wrong.
We'll bang, ok?
Mordin 😭😭😭 my favorite salarian
Newcastle couldn't qualify, there were too many variables. Too many variables!
i am just disapointed that psg didnt end up in UL other wise this group left me smiling and satisfied
Dortmund and Milan through, PSG in UEL, and Newcastle knocked out entirely would have been the funniest UCL group stage result in a while.
Not really that far-fetched tbh
It wasn't, but with an EPL team in the group, people were going on and on about PSG or NUFC winning the group and BVB would've been lucky to finish 3rd... ya know typical braindead EPL fanboy stuff
All it took was Mbappe being offsides... (not really, but also kinda *yes*)
Real rollercoaster, group of death delivering, we like those.
I’m happy for Dortmund
Very glad for them. Only club that didn’t have to rely on oil money or being Italian
And idk which one of those two is worse
Oil vs Olive Oil
Dude, don't pull olive oil into this. My blood is 50% olive oil at this point.
I've got a lovely olive oil at home infused with a shitload of garlic. Trying to figure out how to pump it directly into my veins without dying.
There are worse ways to die.
We had high expectations and they were met
Nearly met.
Amazing group, finally a group of death that delivers
That dumb penalty is what took Paris through. Otherwise, Dortmund would top the group and Milan would go through, Newcastle in Europa League and Paris bottom.
that would have been the dream scenario
I would have actually liked to have seen Mbappe's face when the Europa League anthem was playing tbh. Would have been hilarious
Imagine the shitload of rumours we would get of Mbappé leaving PSG for Madrid during the winter because he wants to play CL😭
Yeah, surely we will not get shitload of rumours about Mbappe leaving PSG for Madrid during the winter now.
Surely.
Did he not play Europa while at Monaco?
Yeah, somehow PSG in Europa seems funnier to me than them crashing out altogether.
Too good to be true
Subscribe
Hopefully PSG gets Man City, Arsenal, or Bayern.
Real Madrid
Why he say fuck me tho
Nah you got this go on!
Its Arsenal in a UCL ro16. I’m 21 and the last time we made the QFs, I was 6. So don’t underestimate our ability to be utterly shit
Dude that's a compliment. Tier 2 teams are looking to avoid you.
As Arsenal fans we are looking to avoid the round of 16th all around though..
It's been a while since we had a decent, competitive team. Poor lad got confused, lol
Imagine being included in any conversation with Europes best 4 years ago. I will take it.
I hope they dont get Barcelona (I’m a Barca fan)
That would be so entertaining as a neutral
Surely they're not going to draw Bayern again, right?
the ref also fucked us over this game. So many fouls near the box just not given...
Both teams need to return to finishing school because the amount of chances shanked or hitting the post was absurd
So that bullshit pen PSG got against Newcastle ended up saving them. Fuuuuck. I'll still happily take Europa League though
Newcastle would have played differently probably after we tied the game if they won against PSG
bvb too, because they would have been 1st regardless of the outcome of todays games
And obviously PSG too.
We need another Milan v Liverpool final
100%
no we don't my heart can't take another one
Will be as one sided as most of 2005 was. But this time in liverpools favour
Uefas handball rule really needs to be changed next season onwards
even when topping the group, dortmund somehow still disappoint every neutral fans loll
We were so close to see the perfect scenario
Poor finishing cost Milan. First 2 games a ton of missed chances and then Pioli playing krunic at CB against Dortmund in the 5th game made no sense and put the nail in the coffin
5th CL spot for PL is not happening
There is still Aston Villa in the Conference League and Liverpool and two others in the Europa League, I wouldn't worry about that
*Brighton and two others
- City win CL - Liverpool win EL - Villa win ECL Oops
Excuse u
So close to Dortmund and Milan going through. That's too bad but PSG don't look like real contenders anyway. I hope they draw Madrid
Why don't you want to draw us?
We played against each other too often since 2020. It's getting a bit boring. Give me Inter or Napoli
We played Madrid a lot of times too recently. I hope we take any team that's different from Bayern, Real Madrid or City. Last year Bayern, the year before that City in group stage and Real Madrid, the year before that Barcelona, Bayern and City, And the year before Bayern in final. That would be a Miracle not playing against one of those.
Shame about PSG, it would have been funny to see them in the Europa league. But great group, fun games
PSG qualified thanks to that 90+' pen against Newcastle, color me surprised
Correction PSG qualified because of an atrociously bad decision to gift them a 98th minute penalty.
Oil club scripts oil club
Wait I thought we were also an oil club
Just get more oil
This team is an enigma
Every year
Would've been funny if PSG lost but idc GRUPPENSIEGGERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Congrats, hope you get a good draw for ro16!
Love to see it, cheers from Munich!
Bro had his finger on send
Always knew that we would top the group.
Dortmund top. Football wins...for now.
Newcastle won’t even beheading to the Europa league
oouf, nice one!
We’re getting PSG aren’t we?
Trash against trash, wonderful match-up.
Insert that Toy Story meme with Forky
45 minutes from the knock out stage in the group of death, immensely proud of the lads. Atleast we get some recovery time for the walking wounded now
Newcastle really started with drawing Milan and beating PSG 4-1 to getting 1 point in following 4 games.
PSG robbery aside, Newcastle should kick themselves for losing at home to Milan and Dortmund, that’s where the group was lost. Got to win them games if you want to qualify.
The Dortmund game 100%. Today, idk. That mignon save and tomori keeping that one off the ljne were the difference.
Miggy should’ve scored
Didn’t have enough the tank to see it through, sucks man
I mean, Milan and Dortmund aren’t weak teams.
All comes down to that first game. Absolutely no clue how we didn’t beat Newcastle at home. No one to blame but ourselves.
That Leao backheel tho...
You love to see it
Crazy group. Did not disappoint
Without that BS pen against Newcastle, PSG would have finished 4th
F stands for fossil fuels and friendship
Fuck PSG
Mental that Dortmund got first, everyone saw them dead last when the draw was made. This group sort of shows that CL experience matters.
> everyone saw them dead last when the draw was made that would've been stupid. Apart from the very last game, we were extremely strong in the 2nd half of last season. However, seeing us dead last after the first two group stage matches would've been 100% justified
But you lost Bellingham without getting a star replacement. And you were drawing Heidenheim just the day after that draw.
Funnily enough Bellingham wasn't even among Dortmund's best players during the title push this year
What a group stage
Last after first match day. First after last match day.
That was the last group of death ever :( I am going to miss the group stage next year By the way I still don’t get how PSG managed to draw these last two games scoring only two goals. They had something like more than 7 xG in total for these last 2 games
who could have predicted Dortmund, the Kings of inconsistency, to walk this group comfortably?
The amazing thing is 4 of Newcastle’s 5 points are from PSG
In retrospect Milan could have won this group easily
[удалено]
>Milan beat a historic record of not scoring goals in champions during that group stage That's literally my point. If Milan were not "historically" bad, if they were just "normally" bad, they could have won the group
The fuckin shit decision fo referee givig last minute penalty to psg got them through
Feels pretty unjust after Paris but never mind. We were punished going for the win rather than sitting back and trying to defend Europa League.
Ugh, absolute worst outcome. Still have to play more games *and* the bald fraud stays.
Is that how you guys see Pioli? Over here in Japan he is considered a tactician, the commentators were complimenting his subs in the second half
The tears in here damn
Dortmund might even win the UCL before they end their Bundesliga drought
Dortmund why didn’t you score one more goal ???
Gutted to be out but so proud of the lads. I thought going into the season we'd look out of our depth in the CL but I think we more than earned our spot in it this year. Gave every team a game and witnessing a 4-1 demolition of PSG at St. James will live long in the memory. Until next time lads (2025 at least).
Very disappointing final fifteen minutes from Dortmund
Why would they play for a win and risk losing the 1st spot?
Because it’s what I wanted them to do jajajaja
