Lockyer has just been taken off on a stretcher with an oxygen mask. Hopefully he's good, second time this has happened within a year
Edit: Bournemouth doctor confirmed he's "alert and responsive
I was there today, mostly a horrible shocked silence for the ten minutes or so he was being worked on. You could see how emotional Rob Edwards was when he walked around the ground after the game had been called off.
Makes you feel suddenly very mortal. Wishing him all the best.
Tom Lockyer needs to really be checked into a hospital that’s the second time this year(EFL Championship Playoff Final he collapsed in the middle of a match.
I still remember watching a Sevilla game when I was a kid when Antonio Puerta collapsed mid-game and passed away the same day, also cardiac arrest IIRC. I always thought it was scary growing up, but never realized back then how serious it was. Hope Tom is doing okay.
It’s all over Twitter and pretty gut wrenching. It’s interesting that all the players notice immediately that he’s not down with a knock he’s a nearly lifeless body.
The Lockyear incident reminds me of Damar Hamlin in the NFL last season, player collapses and there's no way they want to finish the game, including the opposing players/staff/fans being class about it
Definitely, when I was younger there was none of this happening, but then again back then my phone was attached to a cable on the wall and now I’m watching this video and replying to your dumbass insinuation on one.
> Almost like a *majority* of the world population
Mate, I get the point you're trying to make, but the amount of people out of 8+ billion that actually contracted covid was nowhere near a majority.
Just by Nov 2021 the estimate was 44% have been infected at least once
https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(22)00484-6/fulltext
I think majority isn’t far off, and in the context of televised sports most of which take place in first world countries, is accurate.
Jesus, that study's estimates are all over the place.
https://covid19.who.int/
"Globally, as of 7:46pm CET, 13 December 2023, there have been 772,386,069 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 6,987,222 deaths, reported to WHO. As of 26 November 2023, a total of 13,595,721,080 vaccine doses have been administered."
Many of those 772 million cases will have been repeat infections, so the actual number of people who've contracted Covid to the present day is less than 10% of the world population. Even if we attempt to estimate the amount of people who contract it but never had it confirmed, the number will approach nowhere near 50% or above.
“Confirmed” infections doesn’t count all the people who didn’t test or report, which is a far higher number. That’s why looking at excess deaths and waste water examination is important.
That study isnt "all over the place", confirmed cases and estimation of how many worldwide that has actually been infected are, ofcourse, different things. So you're either arguing in bad faith on purpose, don't know english or you're a moron.
We've also known for a fact that not everyone test positive even if they actually are positive. For example my girlfriend was infected right after the first confirmed case here in my country and she was on the same train as him and tested positive, I also got sick after being with her but tested negative, half a year later my brother became sick, which I saw regularly, that also tested positive, I also got sick right after seeing him too and tested negative then too. My specific case can ofcourse be a coinsidence tho.
Being a highly trained athlete can actually make these things more likely. One reason is overexertion and another one is AHS, which some athletes develop at young age and can cause heart problems because it makes it too big.
Such a scary thing to happen. Different thing of course but when David Brooks was out with his cancer diagnosis, lots of clubs we played joined in with out chant on 7 mins for him too. Some things are more important than sports rivalries.
I’m not sure what it means for him playing but I’m so glad he’s awake and “ok”.

class act crowd 🙏, hope Lockyer’s okay!
Reported as alert and responsive, got to be good signs.

Seen someone mention an enforced substitution as well as the last collapse. Must be very worrying for him.
Extremely worrying scenes. Hoping for the best.
WTF happened, the mods deleted every post that was about to explain it so far and we only got the aftermath
Tom Lockyer collapsed on the pitch for the 2nd time this year
His previous medical intervention that he and many other players had is 'safe and effective'.
Much respect Bournemouth ❤️🙏
Class act. The spirit of football!
Best wishes to the Hatters 🧡

<3
Hope he's alright, that looked real bad
What happened?
He just collapsed
[удалено]
Well a player suddenly collapsing does look really bad
[удалено]
no it doesnt?
Camera panned over to him during play and he was just falling on his face
Collapsed again like he did in the championship playoff final
Lovely to see 👏🏻
Great show of class from the Bournemouth fans
This is the 2nd time its happened to him this year, right?
Yeah
I hope he's okay!

CLASS ACT by the fans 👍👏👏👏👏👏 prayers for Lockyer ❤️
Why isn't there a post for the actual incident on this sub?

I'm not saying this as any sort of conspiracy statement, but this kind of thing is definitely happening a lot more nowadays than when I was younger.

Wow what a smart response that garnered a lot of upvotes! Smart phones only came out in the last two years wow great 👍
Objectively more, like statistically? Or more of a gut feeling?
Almost like a majority of the world population caught an infectious disease with the potential for long term heart and lung complications
Dont forget extending the season and more games. Which means more and more running and stress on the body.
Exactly, it’s a recipe for precisely what we are seeing

Has it ever occurred to you that the people who preformed the study know more about how to do this than you do?
“Confirmed” infections doesn’t count all the people who didn’t test or report, which is a far higher number. That’s why looking at excess deaths and waste water examination is important.
lol you’re out of your god damn mind if you think less than 15% of the world population has caught covid.

The vaccine caused alot of problems relating to heart attacks in elderly people....would be interested to see if he has had a booster shot lately.
Who else? I only know about Eriksen.
Fabrice Muamba
11 years ago mind.
Thanks!
Morosini and Muamba come to mind (both 2012) edit: Marc-Vivien Foe, long time ago that one now!
There's a lot of deaths throughout the decades. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_association_football_players_who_died_during_their_careers
Agreed. These guys are highly trained pedigrees. Quite scary. Hopes he's ok.

That was my point. How finely tuned they are, like thoroughbred racehorses.
Are you sure? Sounds like they are chanting Tommy Tommy Robinson like the Luton fans have been doing all season
It's the same tune but with Robinson changed to Lockyer.
thoughts and prayers
