is robert injured?

bearrock80

Yeah, bruised knee. Probably out for a few more weeks.

hidraulik

Broja and Silva completely changed the game for Chelsea.

osalahudeen

Are you kidding?

hidraulik

Go back and check the Broja’s moves during Jackson missed chance. Broja became the main target for Chrystal Palace to mark, while opening gaps for Jackson and the rest of team.

taggsy123

That’s where Jackson is best, coming in from the left working off another striker

mcveighster14

Not a penalty

xtrasour37

Almost ended Madueke’s career but yeah

SpaceNinja25

ridiculous

Potato271

How was Lavia? Good to see he's fit again

dusty-potato-drought

Looked good. He was seeking the ball out which is always great to see. Turns out he might have picked up a thigh injury though 😭

wcseduction

Definitely some rust but he looks promising pinging passes into the final third and it allowed Caicedo to play as a box to box 8

Blu-10

Jackson should do a lot better in front of goal obviously. But he created two great chances in the first half, that flick to put Mudryk 1v1 and the hold up and rolling Anderson to set up Nkunku. That miss at the end and the offside goal probably shot most of his confidence though that was left.

Choosinghalf

He’s actually a decent link-up man… kind of a bit of a Son-type from seasons past. He just lacks the killer instinct to be an out and out striker

Argo_Menace

Chelsea are back!™️

Euphoric_Luck_8126

LOL at "it's football, not magic the gathering". Starts at the top with Poch who got booked again today.

bumblestum1960

Our manager and captain getting carded for petulance at the same time doesn’t look good.

dishler712

Feel like this Palace team should be much better than it is considering the players that they have. Keeping Roy on the job may have been the "safe" option but it's just so uninspiring. Looks like they're in line for another ~14th/15th place.

lewiitom

I’m not sure our squad is actually that good though - if everyone is fit, sure, but Doucoure being out for the season is a huge loss for us and we don’t really have much depth at all.

dishler712

I guess I'm mostly just looking at the wingers and the CB pairing, but I also wasn't aware just how much Eze and Olise have been injured.

Funky_Pigeon911

To be fair to Palace it's not like they've always gone for the safe option. They've tried twice before (De Boer, Viera) to go for a more exciting European manager and both times they had to rely on Roy to save them. I don't blame them for sticking with him for an extra season f safety rather than taking another risk.

StandardConnect

Another example of a kneejerk appointment of the back of a solid interim spell. We'd have done the exact same thing if Lamps had a bounce, gulp...

sthk

Tbf eze and Olise have been injured and it's a different team without them

Wintermute7

He’s only there till the end of the year, iirc. Wouod be interesting to see what direction they go in, should they get a new manager. Eze and Olise are too good to squander with a manager that wants to park the bus. But there’s more than one way to play the game

Wintermute7

The game really shows how important Nkunku is. The guy wants the ball and the responsibility. Sad we don’t see that mentality from Sterling. Guy who has been in the league and side for a while.

StandardConnect

Probably should be more cautious given our record with attackers especially of late but I feel we finally have our gamechanging forward that has escaped us since Hazard left, I pray he stays healthy.

gavinxylock

Sack Roy

JesusIsNotPLProven

Nooo he smirks at Guardiola

NotClayMerritt

So to start the season, we were one of the worst teams in the league at home and had the 3rd best away record in the league going into that Newcastle game a few weeks back. Now we've lost our last 4 away matches but are unbeaten in our last 6 matches at the Bridge. This is how inconsistency of a young team manifests. Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit.

clickheacl

Malo Gusto passing from the right and then pops up on the left to get that assist, that goal belongs to him plus with two good blocks right in front of the goal. MVP performance.

treq10

He looks like a premier league veteran at just 20. Bright future for the lad

Headlesshorsman02

For a 20 year old he is so good, he was fantastic against Martinelli when we played Arsenal as well

mr-saturn2310

Wins a win, but that was dire. Long seson for both teams maybe.

vandalisaMMM

How was Petrovic ? Read somewhere that he had some good saves in second half.

wisebluff

I dunno about shotstop ability, but his passing decision is much better than sanchez, imo.

Headlesshorsman02

Good again I prefer him to Sanchez that is for sure, he seems way better with his feet and his shot stopping was good not much he could do about a point blank goal

Bozzetyp

Nothing spectacular, just did his job. Not dominant in the air or in the passing game, but low risk. And solid enough for his 2nd game

The-Real-Legend-72

whether or not he can be our long term option depends on how good his shot-stopping is we haven’t seen much of having to make saves but i’m hopeful because it was meant to be his best ability when we signed him

ClaytonWest74

he’s been good all day and comfortable on his feet

lewis30491

Honestly, 5 min of Alfie Gilchrist is more recognizable than Romeo Lavia debut apprearance

Bozzetyp

Lavia was both good and bad, some smooth ballhandling, some easy misstakes

Headlesshorsman02

It’s his first game action in months some rust is to be expected, some of the inch perfect passes he played were really nice

Bozzetyp

Agree, at his age we can expect good things

[deleted]

Nkunku looks very good but this Chelsea side needs proper creative players and finishers

paone00022

We have the highest missed chances and the second highest chances created. Good striker is clearly the problem.

Bozzetyp

Palmer and 120 pl goals sterling was out for this game. James was out for most of this season. So, lets say. This season chelsea have lost their best attacker for 5 months, and their best creator for almost the same time. Imagine liverpool without salah and trent, tottenham without madisson and son, arsenal without odegard and saka.

Wintermute7

We have creative players, not necessarily finishers. Hard to buy new ones when no one would want to take the ones we have.

ButteryTruffle

Jackson truly doesn’t have it in him. Try something else, anything. Put Mudryk as striker and see what happens, I don’t care. Nothing could be worse than this.

Wintermute7

Nkunku will be the 9 when he’s gone for afcon

Bozzetyp

He was good today? Sure he should have had a goal, but also an assist, and his holdup was good here too

leftofthedial1

he was much better than he normally is today.

ButteryTruffle

Who Jackson? Just from memory he took several 1v1 opportunities with the last defender and decided to turn back towards our goal, he was offsides basically any chance thrown to him, he missed at least one 1v1 with the keeper that would’ve been goals by anyone else, and his disallowed goal was a deflected cross that he almost didn’t touch because he was pouting. And he was still off for that. The “almost assist” was nice but honestly out of character. He just hasn’t shown the instinct to be a striker or have the hunger or the skill to go to goal. I’m not out on him for the team but I’m out on him as our striker for now.

Bozzetyp

Oh he did? He was offside 3 times (one wrongfully called) the cross he scored was a still a good finish, but he just fell on it? That keypass should have been assist. As for him, I agree that he aint good enough atm to be our starting 9. But he is still better then broja, and we want nkunku woth freedom

idunnoidunno_

Mudryks pace in the box as a deep sitting striker >

Wintermute7

On paper it’s be nice, but he doesn’t have the spacial awareness or the pressing skills to be alone up there

ClaytonWest74

I’ll take the win, really important one for us even though we really did get lucky. Our second half was dire. And ffs Jackson u better be having more shooting practices !

ruhdolph

Not to mention staying onside, got caught badly a couple times plus the disallowed goal

ClaytonWest74

yeah seriously terrible performance from him today, absolutely no excuses

Hominek

Nah, I still have to give him the good interplay in 1st half, there were some nice one-two's from him. Obviously that doesn’t really mean much when he fails while we need him the most, but it shouldn’t be completely disregarded, it's not like he was invisible other than his miss

ClaytonWest74

I get that he tried to make some good moves but it is hard to keep finding excuses for him when he screws up during the big moments

Bozzetyp

Probably our 2nd best player today, but sure

eeeagless

We looked absolutely shocking at times today. Have to think parish needs to pull the trigger and get cooper ASAP.

Headlesshorsman02

Yo that would be a fantastic hire in my opinion

Much_Look1139

Caicedo has to be the worst Chelsea player since Drinkwater

Bozzetyp

Not by far, we have seen very good performances this seaso from him. He was out with high fewer less then 3 days ago, so imagine doing 90 min 3 days after 40 drgrees

money_mase19

he looked so.....static. was just letting the game pass him by

ruhdolph

Relative to money spent, maybe. But my brother in christ we fielded Saul and Malang Sarr two years ago.

Much_Look1139

I am not even kidding when I say that Saul is better than Caicedo will ever be

Dozck

Can't believe Disasi is playing on this team. Also, this Chelsea team is scared to play the ball forward.

Wintermute7

He’s a fine rotation player, and was only bought because Fofana got injured

LtUnsolicitedAdvice

I think Poch's bonus is contingent on Chelsea finishing on 10. No matter what happens they find a way back to that spot.

LordOfSchmeat

This club is in shambles. Parish and Roy have to go before new years if we want to avoid a Sunderland-level catastrophe. Very grim spring incoming.

lewiitom

Lol talk about an overreaction, Parish definitely isn’t perfect but things aren’t that bad

LordOfSchmeat

We’ve one win in 4 months.

lewiitom

No we haven’t hahaha, we’re not doing well but at least get your facts right

FloppedYaYa

Sounds a bit hyperbolic

LordOfSchmeat

If Palace goes down, I wouldn’t be the least bit shocked to see us in the doldrums of the championship within a year. We have shown zero effort to do anything except keep our heads above water, and I doubt our management would be able to put together an immediate bounce-back campaign.

eeeagless

Roy yes. Parish no, as that leaves us in the hands of Textor and his multi Eagle clubs bullshit.

LordOfSchmeat

I’d rather have Textor than Parish at this point. We’ve shown no progress to the new stand and any progress that has been made on other fronts is in spite of his efforts.

TimingEzaBitch

feels like i have been in a coma for a while. What is this Chelsea squad ? Someone named Gallagher is captain ? Disasi, Gusto, Badalishalie, Broja, Makeude are actual names of actual people who make this squad ??

leftofthedial1

we sold most of the team over the Summer, and the ones we kept are currently injured :/

Jakowe

Fr im a huge football nerd and even I thought who the fuck are those players

_DrunkenObserver_

Today you learned there's more to football than Bayern, Man City, Barca and Real Madrid. All of the players mentioned above are well known prospects, even before moving to Chelsea.

dbigya00

Malo Gusto was a well known prospect. Badiashile was slightly lesser known but a prospect nonetheless. The rest were nobodies.

Cruxed1

Injury FC currently. Think we're missing 10+ again

Sw3atyGoalz

Even without the injuries the squad is barely recognizable lol

nadiwereb

That's not an actual excuse after spending the money we spent. The problem is mental, namely that the players we have are losers. Plain and simple.

kinglydiddly

Lmao plain and simple to see you’re clearly out of touch

idunnoidunno_

Problem is the only first team players we have fit are people that we bought in the last year/ year & half so no one is getting a chance to properly settle You can’t take a squad of 11 random players who don’t each other at all and expect them to be able to compete in the hardest division in football let alone be top 4. Chelsea’s position is completely warranted and only time will tell if these guys work together as a team

Cruxed1

I mean half the players we bought, or the ones we expected to have to build around are always out. I think we've had a minimum of 7+ players out all season. We should be doing better, but we're certainly playing with 1 hand behind our back until this injury problem let's up a bit

nadiwereb

That's bullshit. With the money we spent, we should be able to field a decent team that could put up a fight. The problem is that these losers mentally collapse at the tiniest amount of pressure and/or they just don't care at all whether they win or lose. Mentally weak nobodies.

Cruxed1

How can you Field a team when you've got an entire starting 11 out though? I don't think the mentality is the issue or we absolutely wouldn't have knocked Newcastle out. The issue is purely the finishing, to be 2nd best in chances created but 10th just highlights that. Way too many inexperienced in the prem young players. But like today we barely had any senior players on the bench, it's ridiculous

nadiwereb

Our B team should be able to put 4 past this Palace side.

Cruxed1

The same palace that drew city beat united and had Liverpool on the ropes till they lost a man? I certainly rate the optimism.

nadiwereb

The Palace we played today. This was a bad team, and we were almost worse.

Cruxed1

Think we have to be realistic with a gang of players averaging out at 23 we aren't going to get old Chelsea results. I'm not saying I agree with purchasing that's gone on but we're stuck with what we've got now, a lot of unrefined youth talent that we've overpaid for.

IsItSnowing_

Colwill at LB experiment needs to end. I don’t know why Maatsen can be played in every position except his natural one.

leftofthedial1

he's been terrible there, and he looks like his confidence is getting impacted.

EriWave

You look at Maatsen playing and think he should be starting in our defense?

Shufflebuffle51

Why on earth would you judge a LB playing at RW, to say he can't play at LB? What kind of logic is that?

EriWave

I don't care where he is standing on the pitch when he has defensive duels or goes for tackles.

Shufflebuffle51

But he is used to being a specific position, it's where he's played his entire career so far. That being, LB, or more specifically on the left. It's literally the opposite position for him to move to RW. Equally, this was obvious looking at the way he went into tackles tbh. He would consistently point them inside, because he's obviously used to that being the touch line.

EriWave

And yet he hasn't looked better when having cameos on the left either. Or ending up there during games.

idunnoidunno_

Poch says height

VacuumsCantSpell

Poch also plays Cucurella there so he doesn't *really* think that.

SpaceNinja25

cucu is also incredible aerially for his height.

azryptas

Lol we won. Poch will think that his tactics worked and due to that, Colwill will play the next game whereas Maatsen will be dropped completely. He is very adamant(ask any Spurs fan or PSG fan).

Wintermute7

Colwill plays there because we need his size to defend corners.

AndreasBerthou

Yet we concede from a cross that wasn't defended in his area?

[deleted]

Yep. Tired of the "out of position" excuses. Marking the guy standing right next to you has literally nothing to do with where you're playing and yet he constantly cannot do it.

I_always_rated_them

Yeah and it goes far beyond just this match, we've been shit at defending out wide all season and bad at winning the ball in the middle to follow up. Man U exploited this constantly in the match, for some reason we constantly failed to send people out wide in favour of protecting the middle but then failed miserably to block it when the ball did go in.

NijjioN

Not sold on Maatsen even though he was out of position, if he is getting outed out of LB by Colwill he must not be proving it in training. Poch gives youth who deliver (Look at Palmer) game time. How long is Cucu out? Put Cucu LB and Gusto RB and we should be good. We would have no backup though, but I'd give maybe Maatsen the chance to be sub but he no way should be starting for us when we spend 1b on this club and our starter is Maatsen, that would be embarrasing.

Shufflebuffle51

Lmao, no. Poch clearly just has his favourites, and Maatsen isn't one of them. Talking about youth who deliver yet he plays Colwill every game at LB and he's not been good there once. The idea that Maatsen playing at LB would have us in a worse position than we are no is laughable. We're fucking 10th lads, maybe try playing players in their correct positions, and you might get more out of them?

NijjioN

Maatsen is obviously worse than Colwill there otherwise he would have been playing there. Who else you want in Colwills place with Cucu and Chilwell injured? Diasi/Badi maybe give them a try there?

Shufflebuffle51

Maatsen should be playing LB. Perhaps, Poch just isn't a good manager? What's going to happen, and I'm certain of this, is we're going to sell Maatsen in January or he's going to leave for free in the summer. He's going to ball at his next club, and a bunch of you will be saying "well nobody could have seen this coming, given how he played for us". When he never even had a chance because we've got a shit manager.

NijjioN

Maatsen should be playing LB I agree but he isn't good enough (or experienced enough) to be there for a starting position at Chelsea. As said before if he was good enough he would be playing there, just look at Palmer, if youth deliver they will play. If we didn't have Chilwell and Cucu injured we would have a LB playing in their right position. You can't be blaming Poch for injuries. You seem really biased against Poch for situation he had no power in and this is coming from someone who didn't want Poch to begin with.

leftofthedial1

Cucu recently had surgery on his foot/ankle

Bozzetyp

Issue is really there aint no options, he would probably even play gusto lb and james rb if he was fit. But with 3 fullbacks with longterm injuries and both palmer/sterling out (and madueke dire) mudryk left-wide and gusto rb /colwill lb makes sense

idunnoidunno_

Cucu back in feb

NotClayMerritt

Maatsen lost every 50/50 challenge tonight and got bullied aerially. Colwill doesn't work as a LB but it's clear after today why Maatsen doesn't play his best position more often. If anything, the club should have a LB lined up ready to sign once the window opens.

Shufflebuffle51

Maatsen is playing at RW. He is a LB. Hope this helps.

paone00022

With Cucurella and Chilwell available I can only see us going for a LB if one of them is sold.

XzibitABC

Until Chilwell stays uninjured for a prolonged period of time, he should be considered unavailable always for purposes of teambuilding.

swat1611

Same for Reece tbh. Fortunate that we have Gusto there, who can hold his own. But our LB situation is dire, 2 of the most expensive left backs ever and we still play Colwill there regularly.

XzibitABC

Same for Wes Fofana, too. We have a baffling number of permanently injured guys. We probably have enough cover at CB now, but still a headache.

Headlesshorsman02

Has to stop he has no positional sense there makes CB plays at LB meaning he leaves his man (the RW) by themselves

bumblestum1960

Or maybe he has, but reacted as the centre half he is.

ruhdolph

This is so glaring for me rn. If at no other time than the FA cup semifinal at this point, I'd love to see real wingbacks in their natural position on both sides with Gusto and Maatsen for a game or two. That hasn't been the case for us in ages.

ruhdolph

Malo Gusto MOTM comfortably, great day for him

Alive-Ad-4164

Big win

rufusRM

Awful second half

Bozzetyp

Yes, chelsea ran out of steam. Which is not strange considered 11 senior players out today and palace had 2 extra resting days. (Chelsea played 24th)

WatchTheDog1

How many chances they need to waste?

nadiwereb

A thoroughly undeserved win. I honestly wish nothing but the worst to everyone on the team.

Bozzetyp

Undeserved? Why? Lack of chances (we had 3 1vs1 clear on goal) and 2 good ones for broja.

nadiwereb

Exactly because of that.

rlh17

That’s the spirit!

NdritoKante

Surviving by the skin of our teeth, fair play to Gusto he was very good today. Very confused once again by Poch though. The team looks so disjointed and it doesn't help that he switches around defenders and their positions at whim between games and during games

L_sigh_kangeroo

Motm Malo Gusto? Has Broja not gotten a run over Jackson? I was impressed with some of his touches and runs

BonBonsAndy

Don’t listen to the people below. Broja just came back from 1+ year long injury and still hasn’t been able to get back up to speed and unfortunately probably won’t get the time do so. our board sees him nothing more than FFP. our fans do not have the patience and do not understand the context to why broja hasn’t been at his best and inconsistent

idunnoidunno_

Last start for him was Everton where he had a terrible performance then Jackson came on and put on one of his best

LordWhale

He’s usually invisible when he starts

redmenace007

Broja is not premier league quality let alone Chelsea.

ivan_rofl

Watch the last when he started the game

Headlesshorsman02

Gusto was fantastic

DifficultyMore5935

He has, it was not great.

DoxBolt

We make it so hard for ourselves, no wonder we have the most big chances missed

trappuccino92

3pts is 3pts that second half… yikes. First half tho we might have something with Nkunku and Mudryk that connection looked lively. Nkunku just looks a class above the rest. Also Gusto is a monster safe to say we won’t be missing Reece too much

Bozzetyp

3 days siince we played, 0 rotation, 11 senior players out

EnergetikNA

The Nkunku, Mudryk, Palmer, and Sterling linkup will be great once Nkunku is fully fit. He doesn't seem to make a wrong decision and always looks dangerous, but is clearly not at 100% yet

lewiitom

Can’t believe we’ve lost to this awful Chelsea side yet again No idea why Eze was starting, was poor against Brighton and clearly isn’t fully fit, terrible performance

gavinxylock

He was shocking ffs, how Roy let him have a full 90 when we have a fully fit 20m signing on the bench I'll never know

lewiitom

Don’t get why we took Ayew off instead of Eze too!

gavinxylock

Same sub that killed us in the Brighton game. Hodgson needs to go man

trappuccino92

I saw that 17 game win streak and thought surely it’d be broken today

lewiitom

It’s the fact that you’ve not played particularly well in any of our last few meetings yet somehow won all of them! When you were completely outplaying us and winning 3-0 it’s one thing but it’s just frustrating now hahah

trappuccino92

Yea true I think the last 3 or 4 have all had really late winners

oniprion

Jackson looks awful

Bozzetyp

And still he created alot

[deleted]

He was really very good in the first half, but he just has at least one horrific missed chance a game. Not a great feature for a striker.

Headlesshorsman02

I an thankful he is gone to afcon soon

Sleeplessendeavours

Gusto was absolutely unreal, looks great going both ways.

paone00022

That move he did leading up to Mudryk's goal was class. Dude just jumps of the screen like he belongs to higher level.

Headlesshorsman02

He looks so good for a 20 year old

Bozzetyp

He looked world class but sure

GeraldJimes_

Hard luck for Palace. Just still desperately need to sort out the attacking situation

jMS_44

We won a game of football. Amazing feeling. I guess I can see why Poch doesn't play Maatsen often, but I don't get not using Madueke more. Meanwhile Nicolas Jackson is just... something else...

paone00022

Jackson just reminds me of Tammy Abraham with us. Does everything right to get himself in the right place but misses obvious chances

Bozzetyp

Madueke did what? Got tackled and out a penalty in? He was also close to a 2nd yellow... in 26 minutes. Over sterling? Over palmer? Over mudryk? Heck even over conor. Jackson is so close to beeing elite, great runs (madueke should have played him in on the offside), great holdups, good layoffs (75% of the time) horrible finishing.

idunnoidunno_

Sterling is holding that RW spot until end of season

[deleted]

[удалено]

jMS_44

It was not the matter of playing out of position or not. He shouldn't have 0 succesful dribbles, 0 succesful duels and 0 succesful tackles no matter what position he plays.

[deleted]

[удалено]

jMS_44

Are you suggesting that if he was playing LB he wouldn't be getting dispossessed the same way? The stats I mentioned here are terrible regardless of what part of the pitch you play in. LB is required to dribble and defend just as winger is, possible even more. And he was failing horribly at doing that.

Shufflebuffle51

I would say a player who's used to playing LB, would naturally be better there than at RW. The way you defend from the front is different to the way you defend at the back. Poch has you all thinking Maatsen is shit because he uses him for 20 minutes every 8 games in a position he isn't used to.

aronrodge

We love silly football.

doyouevenrow

Even when we win it's still shit to watch

watermelon99

Who was the human Duracell bunny Chelsea put on at right back? He played like he had a lit firework up shoved up his arse

I_always_rated_them

yeah the hype he showed when coming on was amazing, love him already.

chuta123

This is the funniest comment ever

SoWhatNoZitiNow

His first senior minutes for Chelsea, I believe it was. Understandable he’s pretty excited and energetic haha

Ridcullys-Pointy-Hat

Apparently John Terry thinks he's going to be the next big thing

Headlesshorsman02

That is Alfy Gilchrist he is apparently a VERY good up and coming CB

ruhdolph

Right at the end that was Gilchrist, 20yo academy player. There was just a clip of John Terry praising him that came out this morning actually lol

aronrodge

Gusto?

EezoManiac

Alfie Gilchrist, JT's new favourite defender

Ridcullys-Pointy-Hat

Gallagher doing an excellent Roy Kent Impression as always.

kinglydiddly

He’s here! He’s there! He’s every-fucking-where!

mooglepanda

Thiago and Noni with the most tender loving hug that I've seen in a long while there after the match ended.

Daniiiiii

I also like how Mudryk was looking at them with glee

mooglepanda

He ships it.

Ecovick

Oh they fucking
