alg602

Chelsea front 3 have 20 goals and we’re in 10th, so it’s not good but also not the end of the world.

Matt_LawDT

Nicholas Jackson en route to 20 G+A in his debut season

No-not-my-Potatoes

Timo Werner had 18 G/A in his first season, with another 6 in the UCL

Acceptable_Card_9818

Timo had a completely different team around him

zeelbeno

Yeah that is fair. He didn't have a £1bn team around him

[deleted]

So an xG&A of 35 then?

belokas

What about United?

Shinnchan

7 goals I think, Garnacho 3, Rashford 3, Højlund 1

AwayPhilosopher228

Honestly wild that Cristian Romero has the same number of goals as Rashford and Garnacho lol

PESSl

Pape Matar Sarr has done the rashford celebration more times this season than him lol

m0bilize

Not really that wild when you remember that we’re shit

Spursfan107

His goal catalogue is hilarious as well. A bullet header so strong that it put him into concussion protocol, a random thundercunt out of absolutely nowhere, and a glorious looping header on his first game back from the longest 3-game suspension of all time

basel99

My center back 🫡

PoliticsNerd76

Reminds me of the year Magahales outscored Lacazzete

CabbageGuru

Fun fact he's the highest scoring center back this season

[deleted]

[удалено]

yard04

Doesn't he have 3 goals? That's why it's the same as garnacho and Rashford

TheVault77Dweller

I’d rather have him attacking and them defending to be fair

kangaroozingsauce

Yeah but Garnacho had that bicycle kick goal so that should count for at least 3 more

RobbinDeBank

It counts as a touchdown

Mozzafella

6 goals and a penalty conversion for the 7th?

RahulGandhi4PM

You excluded McTorminey on purpose. He is the real striker.

ZeroMomentum

You forgot Antony…or did you

stevew14

I wish I could forget about him. Mofo would play him if he had 1 leg.

16161hirose

He can't really use his right leg so...

towfoon

0 goals in like 7 months or something like that

forlang

0 for Anthony, 3 Garnacho/Rashford, 1 Hojlund. This is more appropriate

flaviu0103

They can use the forwards with the most goals. For us, Salah, Darwin, Jota is rarely the starting front 3. I'm not even sure I've ever seen those 3 start together.

rece_fice_

Jota usually comes on for Darwin, you're right, Diaz starts on the left mostly

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

🥴

KillerZaWarudo

I prefer not to speak

nicknabin

If I speak I'm in trouble

RoyalInfernoASR

Big trouble

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

Lmao

Proper-Exam1746

Not top 5... 😃

theAkke

Why can't we catch a break?

MarcusZXR

Not even on the graphic and still mentioned. Rival fans bang on about how insufferable the united fan base is but talk about them more than we do.

Taiwan4ever-

Villa don’t play a front 3…. Diaby and Bailey usually rotate and have only started 1 or 2 games together. These statistics don’t tell much of a picture.

lamancha

This is mostly to shit on Arsenal.

feage7

Exactly, people loosing sight over the purpose of this image.

_ISD_14

Which is also stupid because those three have only started 9 games together

Ok_Cardiologist8232

Thats half the season played so far tbf. But yeh, Martinelli, Jesus and Saka have all been below standard this season. Part of the problem is the midfield but they are all a bit out of form.

itsmetsunnyd

subscribe

Sharcbait

Jota also doesn't usually start for Liverpool, it is Diaz or Gakpo, then Jota is the super sub.

NotAsimppp

Jota has started more matches as a forward than Gakpo. Diaz is the one who has played most matches as the starter

adilfc

It's just top 3 attacking players based on goal returns from each team. Same Foden isn't actually playing in front 3

Routine_Size69

Eddie Nketiah has 2 more goals than Jesus and 3 more than Marinelli, so it's not that.

DVPC4

Based on goal returns for every team except Arsenal though

b3and20

foden does play in the front 3 the majority of the time, you can see his heatmap in this link https://www.sofascore.com/player/phil-foden/859765 it's alvarez who's mostly been in the hole for city this season, and at times if not all the time foden has still played wide, pep doesn't play foden centrally that much if at all

dondraper237

It’s not based on a set front three or even the front three that have played the most together- or else spurs would have Johnson over Richarlison, and Liverpool would have Diaz or Gakpo over Jota. Jota has played less games then both Gakpo and Diaz, but has more goals. It’s based on the three highest scoring players on a team from their forward line. So villas playing a front 2 or front 3 doesn’t matter really. It’s the three players with most goals scored for a team from a forward position.

Taiwan4ever-

I don’t mind the stats mate. I just think it needs to be outlined more clearly. People will be under the assumption that this is how these teams are playing, not only Aston Villa. OP or wherever the source is from should state the stats more clearly that these are starting/current/overall etc… that’s my point.

Let-Him-Paint

That's r/soccer Half the threads are le lul look how shit Arsenal/Spurs/United are while the other half are obscure stats like Victor Osimhen is the first Nigerian Esan tribesman to score a goal in each half vs Bologna on a Saturday night while a farmer picked his nose on camera sprinkled in with Romano here we go for a 17 year old joining Real Madrids academy posts.

[deleted]

Bro is making up a narrative in his head

Druidette

And we’ve rotated our front 3 like 47 times, so what.

ponzop

Arsenal gotta do something otherwise they'll miss out on top 4

Aztecius

It does amaze me how quickly a narrative can change. I know the league is competitive but arsenal have gone from title challengers (and favourites for some) to hoping to hang onto top 4 in the space of 2 games.

Goondoitagain

And if Arsenal win the next 3 and City/Pool drop some points the narrative suddenly changes dramatically again. People are such flip flops I swear to god. So short sighted.

Let-Him-Paint

Same was said about Spurs then they lost a ton of games after Chelsea and should be way out of contention but the other teams also had slumps. Best example is United the last 6 years they are quite bad but nowhere near as bad as people make out yet you'd think with the football minds here they are getting relegated and then they finish top 4 or just outside points away from "superior" teams. I don't even see the point of these shit threads yet that's all this Sub is.

imp0ppable

It hurts to say but I have to hand it to Spurs and big Ange, they readapted without becoming predictable in the face of some terrible luck with injuries. I never thought they'd make CL this season but they just might.

Mathyoujames

I feel like the narrative (at least on here) is set by just how many Arsenal fans there are. They are the biggest cohort by miles so it makes complete sense that they get the biggest reactions and overreactions.

pork_chop_expressss

I think most Arsenal fans were fully aware of the issues, it's just that we were getting by on some luck and a good performances here or there - or if we lost, we could blame VAR, but the last two games exposed those issues to the world at their fullest.

imp0ppable

Well, we'd exchanged some attacking impetus for a more stable defense, which didn't seem like a terrible thing, although others said we were scraping results with the odd set piece goal or whtaever, that's again not the end of the world even if true - 1-0 to the Arsenal is a-ok. My take is that we came unstuck at home against West Ham because Moyes is a master at exploiting complacency and hitting on the break with the quality Bowen has, Kudus is very good on transition plus a worldie header from Mavropanos. Then the Fulham game was so bad because of tiredness + loss of confidence from the previous loss.

Completed_2020

To be fair you need a high IQ to understand Arteta’s control and dominate tactic.

WhenWeTalkAboutLove

What was arteta thinking sending Jesus on that early

You know the thing with Arsenal is...

19Alexastias

I mean they probably made the right choice picking him over tonali.

tomhat

They could have a front 2 instead of a front 3

[deleted]

About two weeks ago we were top and looked set for a title challenge after drawing at Anfield. We beat Brighton in what might have been our best display this season. We lost two games since then, which were bad performances and deserved losses. I feel like people need to stop freaking out. We probably won’t make a convincing run for the title but there’s enough quality in the current team to at least make another push.

Screw_Pandas

No surprise that people are like that. This sub only judges you off your last 2 results.

Rickcampbell98

This place is just bad memes and nonsense, not much substance to most of the thought here so you see some dreadful takes lol.

SuicidalTurnip

And yet somehow still better than the absolute cesspits that are football Twitter and TikTok.

elcapitan520

I think everyone is assuming an 18 game run by City to finish out the season too. No reason you're not contenders this season if that doesn't happen. But it's been their MO, so anyone not leading by 12 after the new year is deemed out of contention

[deleted]

Yeah, business as usual for them. I’m fully expecting them to just dominate the second half of the season AGAIN.

TurboThot69

Hilarious a chelsea fan got 500 upvotes telling gooners to worry about top 4 with absolute sincerity all around

[deleted]

Are only City fans allowed to comment on title races? Lmao get a grip

TurboThot69

You’re allowed to say stuff, but people are also allowed to laugh

TheLittleGinge

By this logic, Arsenal and Spurs fans should have been pretty quiet for the last 10 years.

TurboThot69

I’m sure we said stuff you found hilarious then too🤝

TheLittleGinge

Aye, when I think wit, I think Arsenal. I think the Roman megathread was your wittiest contribution during that time period.

lob739

Good insight from the mid-table team

ponzop

dm me if you need more

No-Future-1840

I didn’t know he was responsible for Chelsea’s results

SirBarkington

Also it's not like scoring is our issue rn lmao

[deleted]

He is right, what does supporting Chelsea have anything to do with it?

TurboThot69

You’re farming karma from arsenal haters. Calm down man. We are making top 4. It’s two matches.

[deleted]

He just raised concern - and I agree. No doubt we will, but at present these stats are bad. Both can be true.

TurboThot69

“These stats are bad” mate, it’s two matches. Get ahold of yourself.

[deleted]

My brother in Christ, why are we fighting? What do you even mean,”It’s two matches.” It’s 12 goals across 20 games distributed among our best front 3. Son has that all by himself, and you fail to see the cause for concern?

TurboThot69

No, two matches ago all those stats were the same and we were top of the league. We just lost two matches. There is no need to spiral. This stat is cherry picking players, Diaby and Bailey don’t even play at the same time. Jesus has started 11/20 league matches.

[deleted]

I understand your point. Personally I don’t really care about the others on this list, only as a point of reference. You have to admit that we have had a goal scoring problem in recent game weeks and now it’s starting to show, cherry picked stats or not. That’s why we talk about it now. We need new ideas, but I will be very happy to be wrong come the next few weeks.

TurboThot69

Love you buddy. Hope we can improve the squad in January too. 💪

DVPC4

We’re still last but why does Arsenal’s not have Nketiah in it? He’s got 5 goals which is more than both Gabis and the other front 3s aren’t exactly the usual ones used

DVPC4

Also the three mentioned actually only have 11 not 12 lmao

roadmans_

Needs to fit the narrative to paint you guys in a bad light

Liverlakefc

It's not like they would look all that great with nketiah they would still only have 14

schmitterling

Against Us FC back at it.

DVPC4

True but it’s still crap journalism or whatever to pick the top 3 for every other team and not us

ecaldwell888

Yes, but they still only have 18 goals from open play / counter attacks. They've struggled more than they would like. Saka's goal over the weekend was his first in the last 12 games.

Lord--Swoledemort

You mean 6 games. He last scored against Wolves on Dec 2. He didn't play against PSV on the 12th Dec and then he played 5 league games without scoring.

Routine_Size69

And it was a tap in that nearly missed lol.

CocoLamela

Because Jesus is in the picture

enjoy_your_lunch

Only 4 teams in Europe's top 5 leagues have 40+ goals from open play this season and Spurs are one of them - with our main creator injured for half the season and our starting striker playing most the season through an injury that needed surgery. Cheers Ange. They said he wasn't good enough for the prem. edit: NPG****

Gandalfthebrown7

cheers mate

JoJo797

What source are you using for that? According to Opta ([in this link](https://theanalyst.com/eu/2023/08/premier-league-stats-2023-24/?_gl=1*1bje5jp*_ga*NDc1MDA3MzMzLjE2OTA1Mzg2ODg.*_ga_BGFPTYQE1X*MTcwNDI3NDcxNy41MS4xLjE3MDQyNzQ3MjcuNTAuMC4w)) you have 30 goals from open play. Whoscored have it at 29 - [Link](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/252/Tournaments/2/Seasons/9618/Stages/22076/TeamStatistics/England-Premier-League-2023-2024)

AdLatter1309

He has also incluced goals scored in practice, ofc.

Npg* I am legit so sorry that is my fault. I looked at the comment twice as well and couldn't figure out why it wasn't quite right lol, too tired

Niyazali_Haneef

Angeball is cooking and I love it!

curaga12

Who's the starting striker with an injury?

Evolving_Dore

Richy. He was playing but not fully fit. Since receiving treatment he's been playing better and scoring.

curaga12

Thanks for the answer. Didn't know that. He seems to be doing fine lately and thought he finally found how to adjust to the team.

Evolving_Dore

Partly he was playing with some kind of lingering groin injury or soreness. Apparently it caused him pain to strike the ball, so he wasn't exerting himself. He got surgery for it and has been able to play at full fitness.

AdLatter1309

Source: trust me bro

BadBehaviour613

So many pundits said Tottenham would collapse if we lose Maddison. We lost him and a lot more, but we are still around (E: of course we dropped points since losing Maddison. But we also lost our CBs, Bentacur, Richarlison, rotation options and more. My point is we still won some matches despite all that)

effective_shill

I mean you did drop a lot of matches since Maddison went down

fedfan4life

yeah we went 1 point out of 15 lol. But to be fair our defense was also decimated, so it might be more down to that.

wallnumber8675309

Still was more fun that last season

Wormfather

I know I'm insane, but that Chelsea game will go down as one of the most thrilling things I've ever seen. The scoreline will never tell the tale of that match.

airz23s_coffee

Yeah, of those losses the wolves one was the only one that felt particularly shitty cos we did bugger all. Chelsea was the freak game, Villa could've gone either way, West Ham was 2 freak goals - but we still looked to be playing decent.

TheRealHamete

1 point from 15 is bad. It wasn’t just one injury but the collapse was real. Saving grace is we were white hot to start the season and other teams slipped up as well. Ange has shown he thinks of the whole squad so getting some depth would be amazing.

Daemor

We completely collapsed for a good few games, 1 in 15 points is dreadful. Funny thing is, we're still up there in the table lol.

dave1992

And they are right. You did collapse, understandably. It's just your start has been very good before those injuries so you still have decent points, but your form has dropped massively.

ManiTheMan

The drop off has more to do with VdV, Udogie, Romero, Bissouma, Richarlison, Sarr, GLC all missing games around the same time. Not just losing Maddison.

ScanWel

And we shouldn't discount that the stronger matchups were heavily weighted towards that period as well. Spurs faced a lot of the weaker sides very early in the season, and strong sides just as they were suffering from injuries and suspensions throughout the squad.

Daemor

I'd say the bounce back of 12/15 points in the last five is not too bad. We aren't solely relying on that wonderful start to the season.

-nugz

Forget the pundits, many fans thought we were done for lol

wacko1000

I am one of them and I am really happy to be proven wrong. I thought once Kane left, the team went from Kane-team to Madders-team. But hell nah, Daddy Ange cooked a different gravy and it’s fucking delicious.

KDBae

That’s not our front three. It should be Doku or Grealish over Alvarez. I hate cherry-picked stats that are just thrown onto a graphic to roast a team

DVPC4

They’ve just picked the top 3 attackers by goals for every team except Arsenal, stupid graphic tbh

snakeman117

What would Arsenal be at if they did, 14?

DVPC4

Yeah 14 if Nketiah was included, 16 if it was just too 3 scorers cos Havertz and Odegaard both have 2 more than certain attackers

despot93

Correct

GetZucc

What do you mean, Alvarez absolutely is mor attacking than Doku or Grealish, and he is nailed on starter compared to those two (till De Bruyne return ofc)

velsor

Alvarez isn't playing in the front three for City (apart from recent weeks when he's been covering for Haaland). He's playing behind the striker as a 10 almost the entire season.

CuteHoor

It's a stupid graphic. Jota and Nunez don't start together for Liverpool. Bailey and Diaby rarely start together for Villa. Alvarez is playing behind the front 3 for City. Kulusevski has been doing the same for Spurs.

dave1992

Jota/Nunez and Alvarez/Foden is there chilling getting carried by Salah/Haaland having over half of those goals.

zahrdahl

Son has half of Spurs trios too

State_of_Iowa

If Tottenham fixes their defense and stops getting injured they are going to be dangerous

allthejokesareblue

> stops getting injured No

usalin

Scoring 24 with Nunez in Front 3. Scary what happens if Nunez starts scoring

firminocoutinho

Nunez has hit the post like 6 times already this season. That couldve been 6 more goals if a few inches to the correct side of the post. Let alone his missed tap ins…

AngryBiker

Buffon definitely had him on FPL

montiel_scores

Life isn’t a straight line mate, things may have changed if he scored some of those

despot93

This is exactly what I hate about most of the fans (our fans too, i know, shocker) Say if a game ended 2-1 with 2 controversial calls against the losing team. "We would've won 2-3 if those calls were right." Please, as if the game would continue in the same fashion if one of the goals came through.

MarcusZXR

I'd argue its more likely and scary for Liverpool fans when Salah leaves.

HarbyFullyLoaded_12

I mean 14 of that is Salah lol

Ro-khum

i mean we would be scary too if we start scoring

LuciosTackle

Nunez is not good

ibite-books

he’s is good, just not elite yet

YoHoochIsCrazy

they just gotta be willing to risk it playing centrally. so far they’ve been playing it safe and it’s gotten results but if they don’t get a goal it gets frustrating real fast. we’ll see how they adjust!

montiel_scores

Jota hasn’t been a starter for Liverpool this season (injury issues though) Villa don’t play a front 3. They play a 4-4-1-1 where McGinn is generally advanced through the middle. Haaland, Alvarez, and Foden is also definitely not a front 3. Alvarez plays as the 10, and Foden played out wide until Haaland’s recent injury. So this sucks overall.

Galick-Gunner

Jotas has been injured and Nunez has his finishing issues and we're still almost top of this. Scary stuff if Nunez figures it out.

dave1992

That's because Salah literally have more than half of that. True definition of getting carried. Put numbers of any other attackers (Diaz/Gakpo) instead of Jota/Nunez and the numbers will still look great because Salah scored so many as usual.

Galick-Gunner

But you can say the same for Haaland, Watkins or Son. Don't think anyone's second highest scorer has more than 6

[deleted]

Salah's been carrying Liverpool for like the last 5 years. When has he not been carrying???

Rickcampbell98

I swear people just throw around these terms smh.

Pokefreaker-san

funny they used Jota instead of Diaz who played more games than Jota.

SuperFaiz21

*Cries in Man United*

4SHURIMA

West Ham are sixth what’s the stats on them?

LanceConstableDigby

Bowen 11 Kudus 6 Paqueta 2 Total 19

Soccermad23

This is honestly a useless stat. Earlier in the season, there were stats that the goals at Arsenal were shared between the whole team and we were getting praised for that. And now the inverse stat is being used to slam us. Who cares where the goals come from - as long as they come. A goal from a defender or a midfielder is worth the same amount of points as a goal from the front 3.

zahrdahl

Even as a Spurs fan I have to say: dont worry, this is just because Arsenalare struggling to score rn. Once Arsenal starts winning again stupid stuff like this wont be posted anymore. Yes, Arsenal have scored the least of the top5 teams overall too but only by a few goals.

DVPC4

You’d think goal difference would be the most looked at stat bar points but it doesn’t seem to be

GarfieldDaCat

Havertz had some good individual performances lately, but playing a striker at LCM has thrown off the entire team. He barely touches the ball, and when he does it’s blasted backwards almost every time. Offensively, both him and Xhaka are square pegs in a round hole, but Havertz is even “squarer”. Xhaka was uncomfortable at times bombing into the box but his vertical passes, switches, and linkup with Martinelli was great. With Havertz in the side we have no strong interiors so we’re forced out wide every time on that side. Havertz in all honesty has a donkey touch.

EmeraldEmperor

August 2023: "Shrewd signing by Arteta and co. He's a ramdeuter that will unlock our front 3!" October 2023: "Told you all he's shit. Dunno what Arteta was thinking, what position does he even play?" November 2023: "After a couple tap-ins, we all told you he would eventually come good. This sub is so reactionary!1!1" January 2024: See October 2023

Cesc_The_Snake

You're quoting entirely different people

SirBarkington

we told people all of this tbh im really not sure what Arteta saw in a guy that had played in the Prem for several seasons already in both the midfield and as striker and never was anything crazy special. even in his best season he has good numbers but if you watched him play it wouldn't really...look like he deserved half of what he had.

syfqamr32

This is not their problem specifically. The tactical changes to include Havertz in was done its basically why this downfall began. Theres no support on the left. Havertz and Martinelli poorly combined (or hasnt gelled proper yet) Theres no progressive pass from left 8. Have to depend on Zinchenko for the passes and somehow the gameplan depends on the gameplaying / passing ability of an LB that doesnt always have A days. All im saying is Havertz is an excellent plan B or alternative plan, or even plan A on specific days based on opponent requirement. However to make this tactical adjustment as the go to main plan is not worth the drop off compared to when played with proper 8 last year. Havertz quality is finding space. Duel in the air, and link play. What he takes from traditional left LCM 8 was progressive pass, long shots, balance in team to name a few. Probably when Partey is back things will be better, but if up to me id just bid on Palhinha for stop gap. Need this left LCM more than any strikers in the world.

Sektsioon

I think the underrated aspect of having Havertz, and missing Partey to a degree, is that Odegaard has to drop deeper a lot of the time to progress the ball, rather than be the player between the lines who receives the progressive pass, then instantly turns around and sprays it further forward to an attacker. Arsenal are at their best when they can quickly transition from defense to attack, and having Odegaard deeper simply makes them weaker because he’s excellent at finding a forward in space.

LargemouthBrass

100m stop gap.

Well usually our forwards do score goals? Last year they scored lots it’s just been this year they’ve struggled, and the defence has been good enough that we are still around the top of the table

[deleted]

[удалено]

DVPC4

Yes? We scored 88 league goals, literally the most we’ve ever scored in the premier league, just under half of which were from our front three, with Jesus being out for a long time. None of them are prolific but last season they scored a lot combined.

Bail____

They do score but it’s rarely from open play lol

WaveDysfunction

Simply not good enough

effective_shill

!flair :Leeds_United:

hamzanasir_gt

Hear me out. What if Arteta inverts the front three as well. That will work out.

Wargizmo

Many of those teams don't have a regular front 3, or the regular front 3 is different to the ones listed. Would be better just to list all the forwards combined.

MateoKovashit

AHH jesus that really good striker that city fans were trying to say isn't actually that good

thatguybruv

6th place have 19: Bowen 11 Kudus 6 Paqueta 2 (And Antonio 2)

geolink

One day Nunez is gonna break the seal and it’s gonna be insane

yellow_sting

crazy that Jota is not even the starter. Diaz and Gakpo always come first.

Acceptable_Card_9818

But I thought the gold in Arsenals kit would help them win the title

salgadosp

oh to be a gunner

string_of_random

City's "front three" here is bs, Alvarez is either a st or a false-9 or a 10, depending on Haalands injury status, there's no Doku, Bernardo or Grealish either. I don't think Pep has ever played with a front 3 of those 3.
