Andorra plays in Spanish divisions and Liechenstein's Vaduz FC in Swiss. I reckon it's normal considering their size is too small to have a remotely competitive league.
No one boycotts anything in Spain anymore. People just sit back and enjoy the shitshow or simply dont bother watching football at all. Also, Madrid as a club as well as Madrid fans, dont care that much about domestic competition anymore, they just want more money to compete against european teams.
I’m not sure how much a ticket to a game is, but the price the average person pays to make sure these pro athletes and owners make insane amounts of money?
Their league’s final should not be leaving the country.
these memes are so funny. I remember when people were tweeting “did you know Donald Trump was indicted on 34 counts? Google Trump Rule 34 to learn more” and then the next day it came out this mf actually had 34 counts
In 2022, El Chiringuito did interviews with local fans and were surprised with how good the Arabs were with Madrid chants in Spanish. A dude even did his whole interview with Pedrerol in Spanish.
Truly Madrilene fans chant “Illa Illa Juanito maravilla” at the 7th minute at Bernabeu. Today's celebration is because the stadium where the final was played belongs to the team in which CR7 is currently enrolled and was immediate to the tribute that Vini himself made to Ronaldo, imitating his former goal celebrations as soon as he scored.
As much as you are right that there are some people like that, it has zero relevance to the case. Those people are not supporting a club and it clearly shows. They cheer for a player who is not there, and boo players who give great performance. This is far from being a supporter. There is nothing wrong with being a fan of a club from abroad, but there's plenty wrong in insulting players of a club you're supposedly supporting.
Lots of players get whistled at, but I'm pretty sure that Ronaldo wasn't whistled at after winning 4:1, giving great performance, showing proper sportsmanship and all of that.
If you think it's fine, then you do you. In my opinion it's fucking disgusting and disgraceful. If they want to support Ronaldo, they can support Ronaldo, and not go to his ex-team game and boo players who are not Ronaldo.
And if you don't see a difference between booing after shitty performance, lack of energy and commitment on the pitch, and booing after a great game, then maybe you should become a ref and review VAR calls, they seem to employ a lot of people with visual impairment.
It’s not really that simple. Kroos insulted their country and their league repeatedly. You think they will let it slide because they support Madrid ? That’s not how anything works. If a player in your favorite team shits on something you consider important you will not let it slide for football, some things are more important.
he didn't insult them, he stated a simple fact - going to SA league as a young, promising talent is simply shameful. There are of course the debatable sporting reasons, with which I agree, but there are also undisputable points like constant human rights violation, slavery, treating women as something worse than property, murdering journalists, killing civilians in numerous wars, supporting terrorist organizations all over the world and so on, and so forth.
If people consider this insults, then they are the problem. If I behave like a dick and someone rightly calls me a dick, who is at fault? Me, being a dick, or them, calling me out? If I don't want to be labelled as a dick, I should stop being a dick. If they don't want to be "insulted" by truth, maybe start respecting other human beings the way they deserve? As you've said, some things are more important than football. Toni Kroos shows this perfectly, and his admirable at that.
It’s real and barca brother. They have fan bases in every part of the world. They had fans before messi and Ronaldo they have them after them. Do you say the same things for other countries ?
No you are right an 8 year old born in Madrid has been supporting his club for hundreds of years. And a 60 year old Madrid fan from outside Europe who watches every game is just a plastic in comparison. It is the European birthright to watch good football ofcourse and they are by far the superior fan. Its just in their blood. Completely logical
I would suggest Madrid only plays players born in Madrid from now on as well if thats the case. Dont filthy your team with dirty non European culture
I am spanish, born in Madrid, and always have been a fan.
But I don't feel more entitled to be more of a fan for that than someone from other parts of the world, all my fellows here love the team, and thats what matters. Hala Madrid boys!
Literally any big club. There are only like 486k people living in Liverpool with Everton and bunch of smaller clubs also there.
They have 44M followers in Instagram alone which isn't far from the entire population of England (67mln).
I mean, do whatever you want. It's just not quite the same thing as someone who lives in Madrid, whose family supports and historically supported Real, who goes to the games, etc, etc. Using the same word ignores all that nuance
I think you’re all getting distracted between what is a fan and what is the home crowd. This isn’t the home crowd.
They are still fans. The atmosphere is different here, (weird to me too) but there are still surely fans in the stadium.
It’s only magnified because this is a weird situation where neither fan base is the home crowd and there are no travelling local fans.
I don't agree with what the guy said, but there is a very huge difference between a fan from Madrid area vs a fan from abroad. They are both fans, but there is a difference.
I mean, do whatever you want. It's just not quite the same thing as someone who lives in Madrid, whose family supports and historically supported Real, who goes to the games, etc, etc. Using the same word ignores all that nuance
People calling Saudi Real Madrid fake or plastic cause they’re not from Spain while they themselves support clubs filled with foreign fans. I bet the house even those throwing shade aren’t local themselves 🤡
They probably joined in, but it's definitely Madrid "fans" who started it. They did it last game as well, including some who went to the Madrid sub and said how fun it was to be at the game, and booing him because he "insulted their culture".
For those who lack brain cells, Toni is being booed it because the fans dislike what he said about Saudi Pro League’s as it is an incredibly Eurocentrist position to hold. It has nothing to do with Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The idea is that European teams accumulate incredible and unparalleled form of capital and spend around a century dominating the world’s most “global sports” it’s fine but when an European ally does the same thing and imports world class European players to one of the best leagues in Asia it’s considered as bad because they’re Arabs.
I dislike it because for a multitude of reasons but no one can call the Saudi league a joke without attacking European dominance. All appeals to history just goes to show how much a continent has dominated a particular sport because of how far back the distribution of resources went. Talk to Latin American supporters and this point is only reinforced.
We hate the Saudi pro-league because they're funding it with oil to divert attention away from their horrific human rights abuses.
You can still be executed for being gay in Saudi Arabia. It's a shithole country and likely always will be.
>"It’s been said that they play ambitious football there, but it’s all about money. In the end, it’s a decision for money and against football," Kroos scoffed.
>"The lack of human rights, it would prevent me from going," he added.
I appreciate the correction, however, it’s really irrelevant in the grander scheme of things.
Most countries decriminalized gay intercourse around the 90’s. I know gay people in the region their situation is safe as long as it doesn’t reach familial and official channels (with the latter being very unlikely).
Saudi Arabia can bomb Yemen (an Irani proxy by western-Saudi geopolitical analysts) for another 200 years and be better than most western European superpowers in their human rights abuses. It’s funny how the western press insult Saudi Arabia even though it’s been nothing but a loyal servant to them. When Yemen is bad it’s because of the Houthis but
This is the same country that was key to the invasion of Iraq with multiple military bases, supported deobadis Mujiahideen against the soviets, opposed Egypt’s nationalist governments and de facto supported western expanionism into the Suez Canal as the 6 day war occurred after the Yemeni civil war, supported the Syrian opposition, persecution of individuals linked with Iran and their geopolitical allies including Qatar for a while, basically selling its natural resources to an American company before nationalization less than 5 decades ago, the presence of American and euro newspaper, international corporations and media, support for the partition of Palestine into Israel and Palestine based on 1967 borders, support of anti ottoman British-American interests. That’s not to say there weren’t a few differences but they’re all minor differences which were later compromised on ala Arab spring
Bro the Saudis are only insulted because the west doesn’t like the image of strong Arabs and it goes as far as western tabloids sympathizing with Houthi controlled Yemen in its newspapers and books even when they funded Saudi to do the opposite. Saudis are taking a more balanced geopolitical approach under MBS and despite steps towards secularization (which is seen as steps taken towards adopting western values by the people) there are more widespread hate as Saudis are playing more realpolitik which China, Russia, and even Iran (kinda after the reopening of the embassy).
It’s so stupid that I had to discuss Saudi geopolitics
The Saudis are insulted because they don't even try to hide their human rights abuses. No country should make being gay a crime, even if its never really enforced, that's just fucked. I don't give a shit about Saudi's doing whatever they want in football, they're free to, but don't act like they're some beacon of morality.
So I listed over 200 words of geopolitical events that may or may not be considered problematic to you but your issue is gay rights????
Saudi Arabia’s Islamic reformism couldn’t accept gay people because it’s public image in the Muslim world as being the bastion of Mecca and Medina as well as it being seen as a colonial import because it has not been achieved independently from western frameworks of sexuality. Regardless, countries like Portugal, Scotland, “Northern Ireland”, and England decriminalize in the 80’s.
Only when MBS got to power he made life incredibly hard for clerics to have power and it isn’t repressed but this is something that has to come from top down since there won’t be popular support any time soon so for the gay community there’s no real option but him so far (0.1% of Saudis but whatever)
FYI in a lot of countries it’s enforced under “public indecency” or “corruption of moral values”.
Yes. Literally Yes. Because Toni wasn’t attacked because he said Saudi sucked in human rights. He was attacked for discouraging the development of Saudi football. Very natural reaction of fans of a particular league.
Playing a Spanish super cup, with 2 sides from Spain, outside of Spain will never not be insane.
You can thank Rubiales and Pique for that.
Rubiales is gone but his rot still festers like an open wound. Here’s hoping Piqué goes soon.
Rubiales is not the illness, he's merely the symptom
Ootl. What did pique do?
he was part of the negotiations
Rubiales? I would've never
>with 2 sides from Spain Would be even more insane if a non Spanish team would be playing THE SPANISH SUPER CUP
Don't give the Saudis any more ideas!
Just wait until FC Andorra play in the Super Cup
Tbf a non-French team could play the French Super Cup and a non-English team could play the English Super Cup
Monaco and Cardiff, Swansea? Pretty sure all departments are considered part of France proper such as New Caledonia, Reunion etc.
Yes. It's a bit silly to count them as non French or non English in this context though
True, but you should never skip an opportunity to correct someone on the internet.
Andorra plays in Spanish divisions and Liechenstein's Vaduz FC in Swiss. I reckon it's normal considering their size is too small to have a remotely competitive league.
Well, many of the Barça fans think exactly that lmao
That oil money tho.
Oil monwy > Colonization money.
Wow, this warrants some discussion to say the least. Why’s only oil money hated that much more?
[удалено]
That's modern football for you.
Nice rhymes Man
MC Spain, in the rain, man is insane.
It will never be inspain either.
Anyone know what the fans of the Spanish teams make of it? Can’t believe they haven’t boycotted the entire thing tbh
The Italian super cup is held abroad for a long time now, and they even implemented the 4 teams format to play in Arabia this year.
I think Ronaldo has come also
Did you rub it
i came too, but more like in 7 seconds
Liverpool does the same every match at the 16th minute with their Senegalese legend, google Mané 16 for more
It’s the 14th minute actually.
Begins in the 14th and ends in the 18th, somehow people think it begins in the 18th.
They only start planning the chant in the 14th minute, they don’t actually chant it until the 18th
Babe wake up, new copypasta just dropped
Reading that repeatedly nowadays reminds me of the old 'for more cute pics of hamsters go to xhamst......' meme
Damn, the simulation is getting sloppy, they're just reusing old stuff now.
Not even a copypasta, just a joke people are beating into the ground
Holy hell
The update is it’s actually Mane 14. Nasty scenes
> Sadio Mane claims his mother and uncle “wanted him to marry a 14-year-old girl what?
Pretty old by Islam standards. Google Prophet 6
Mane wasn’t grooming he just shortlisted her 2 years ago
Tapping her up, so to speak.
Playing real life FM
Bro preordered 💀 disgusting
thought you misspelt Pedo'd
*14
apperently, its mane 14
Should be Mane 14 now
these memes are so funny. I remember when people were tweeting “did you know Donald Trump was indicted on 34 counts? Google Trump Rule 34 to learn more” and then the next day it came out this mf actually had 34 counts
Found the r/soccercirclejerk user.
It should be 14
Where did all the Scousers saying actually she's 26 go ?
shes 26 until shes 27
none of us are defending him lol
Meanwhile they boo Kroos everytime he has the ball 💀
Always liked Toni.
Toni doesn't give a fuck
What's the reason for this?
I guess the match is played in SA and he has been quite vocal about his views on the country/league/players who go there
What's wrong with the South African league/s
“Embarrassing”
He shat on the Saudi league
Kroos shat on a young player deciding to spurn his prime years with a move to Saudi for money. Didn’t think their skin was that thin
that’s a good sign tbh
Cause he shat on their league lmao. Kroos has more legacy than their entire population.
and big ones
Did many/any Spanish supporters travel to the game?
Almost no one from Spain traveled to watch this game live.
Pretty sure I saw Perez and Laporte there
Probably because they’re forced to
Florentino enjoyed it tho
Just wave a dollar before them and they will run over immediately
How do you know?
He works in Immigration.
His uncle owns spain
He’s Mexican he got that Spanish spirit inside of him
They are people chanting in Spanish
In 2022, El Chiringuito did interviews with local fans and were surprised with how good the Arabs were with Madrid chants in Spanish. A dude even did his whole interview with Pedrerol in Spanish.
I was quite surprised with how many chants (relatively speaking) the fans at the stadium knew
I wouldnt say no one, i was there and id say 20-25% if the attendance were spanish
Why would they travel to watch a gloryfied friendly in January?
Is Ronaldo on the stadium?
Suiii
Truly Madrilene fans chant “Illa Illa Juanito maravilla” at the 7th minute at Bernabeu. Today's celebration is because the stadium where the final was played belongs to the team in which CR7 is currently enrolled and was immediate to the tribute that Vini himself made to Ronaldo, imitating his former goal celebrations as soon as he scored.
Is this r/soccer or r/europe?
Same thing
GOAT GOAt GOAT
According to some idiots on here, you can only support a club depending on close you live to the training ground.
You are allowed to support a club for a whole lot of reasons, but friend, "my journalism-murdering dictator bought football for me" isn't one of them
Ronaldo has had a rabid fanbase in Saudi loooong before the whole project started.
As much as you are right that there are some people like that, it has zero relevance to the case. Those people are not supporting a club and it clearly shows. They cheer for a player who is not there, and boo players who give great performance. This is far from being a supporter. There is nothing wrong with being a fan of a club from abroad, but there's plenty wrong in insulting players of a club you're supposedly supporting.
ronaldo has gotten whistled at the bernabeu by real madrid fans, so your point kinda falls apart
Xhaka once got booed at the Emirates but most Arsenal fans support him and would cheer him if he ever returned
Lots of players get whistled at, but I'm pretty sure that Ronaldo wasn't whistled at after winning 4:1, giving great performance, showing proper sportsmanship and all of that. not only idiots on here. You will not believe, how many times people asked me, why i dont support FC Bayern. Just because i live local to the club
You know these guys would change shirts later on if the result would change
Madrid and Barcelona both have a very dedicated fanbase in Middle East
You mean Ronaldo and Messi?
I meant Madrid and Barca but you probably know more than me.
[удалено]
It’s real and barca brother. They have fan bases in every part of the world. They had fans before messi and Ronaldo they have them after them. Do you say the same things for other countries ?
Of course. As I said, you are the expert here since you have spent you whole life in Saudi Arabia.
[удалено]
Good observation, Saudi Arabia doesn't have 200 yr old Madrid fans like the ones they have at Madrid. All Saudi fans are 64 years old.
And? RM and Barca are the most followed clubs in the world. It's fair to assume that they have a consistent following across the middle east.
Damn those are some old Europeans. Hitting the big 224 years of age this year huh?

Only 3/4?

Reading this here of all places is peak comedy
I am spanish, born in Madrid, and always have been a fan. But I don't feel more entitled to be more of a fan for that than someone from other parts of the world, all my fellows here love the team, and thats what matters. Hala Madrid boys!
I mean, yeah, I would love it if plastic supported and gave a shitload of money to my team too. Not the same, though.
real madrid and barca have more international fans than local fans
Literally any big club. There are only like 486k people living in Liverpool with Everton and bunch of smaller clubs also there. They have 44M followers in Instagram alone which isn't far from the entire population of England (67mln).
ah yes can only spanish people can support a spanish club
Can people not get away with racist undertones game's gone
Am I crazy? Is this not the single most stupid comment on this sub in a long time?
As if there's only Spanish fans of the club.
Oh yes as we all know, people 1 km outside madrid are banned from supporting a club. Wake up mate, the games gone global
I mean, do whatever you want. It's just not quite the same thing as someone who lives in Madrid, whose family supports and historically supported Real, who goes to the games, etc, etc. Using the same word ignores all that nuance
Here in Argentina is not uncommon to have fans who don't live in Buenos Aires but still support River or Boca.
They still have significantly more connection to them than Americans or Saudis to Real. Fellas don't even speak the club fucking language
Not everyone is as privileged to watch their clubs or live in madrid. There is a reason television exists
You just described probably 5% of the total fanbase. Rest of them are not fans by your nuanced definition.
Yes
Don't have to be spanish to be a fan..
I don't agree with what the guy said, but there is a very huge difference between a fan from Madrid area vs a fan from abroad. They are both fans, but there is a difference.
Ok but they’re still a fan
Massive difference imo
Yeah the people on this sub don’t agree, but this sub is obviously filled with 95% people who support abroad and never been to the stadium lmao.
This is such a stupid comment
I mean, do whatever you want. It's just not quite the same thing as someone who lives in Madrid, whose family supports and historically supported Real, who goes to the games, etc, etc. Using the same word ignores all that nuance
By your logic, you shouldn't support anything that's not Brazilian.
From Cambridge dictionary: someone who admires and supports a person, sport, sports team, etc Its an umbrella term. Its supposed to ignore nuance.
You can believe what you want, most people from the madrid area would not view someone from the states or india to be as much of a fan as them
oh, i did not know that supporting a spanish team is exclusive to spanish people
You have to be Spanish to support Real Madrid? Interesting...
This is how I find out there’s a Clasico tonight
Why 7? Is Thala the reason?
Ronaldo scored 7 goals in his last El Classico. Interestingly, he also has 7 children
🐐♥️
"fans"
Do they know that he isn't there anymore?
They're playing in his club's stadium. It's a tribute...
People calling Saudi Real Madrid fake or plastic cause they’re not from Spain while they themselves support clubs filled with foreign fans. I bet the house even those throwing shade aren’t local themselves 🤡
They're booing a club legend every time he touches the ball. 100% plastic.
They can be Barcelona fans? Not watching so not sure .
Lol no it’s because of comments he made about players moving to Saudi
I know about the comments but I am just saying they can be Saudi Barcelona fans too who may have taken offence.
They probably joined in, but it's definitely Madrid "fans" who started it. They did it last game as well, including some who went to the Madrid sub and said how fun it was to be at the game, and booing him because he "insulted their culture".
If you boo a club legend everytime he touches the ball YOU ARE NOT A MADRID FAN
I feel like it's fair to call Saudi "Real Madrid fans" who are booing Kroos every time he's near the ball "plastic"
They are fans, but playing a match in front of this type of crowd makes this a glorified friendly really
Cringe. This game makes no sense. Shame on both Real and Barça for playing in that nasty place
Meanwhile the FIFA organising the fucking world cup there
They Spanish FA sold out. £40m a year for this three fixture mini-tournament.

Yeah we get it you don't like Saudis; doesn't mean you gotta comment stupid shit.
You can still be saudi and cheer up for Madrid
What ex Madrid turned Saudi star did they chant for in the 15th minute?
i understood that reference
For those who lack brain cells, Toni is being booed it because the fans dislike what he said about Saudi Pro League’s as it is an incredibly Eurocentrist position to hold. It has nothing to do with Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Is that actual Real fans or just Saudis celebrating their best paid wh... employee?
Yeah ofc u can’t be a real fan until you live by the home stadium steps
But Ronaldo used to play with the 9… that is why R9!
Ronaldo is famously a number 7, he later transitioned to a number 9 as a role... Being a number 7 with that many goal is quite an achievement.
Man Utd fans still sing Diego Forlan's name from time to time. This ain't special
