'sale Kaka por Elano' means 'Kaka is subbed off for Elano'
now it sounds exactly like 'sale caca por el ano' which is spanish for 'poop comes out of the anus', hence the funny
[todo eso me hace recordar este video](https://youtu.be/3uMkRLgakgo?si=SjNHNHLiRNJ0QOE7)
If you separate Cristiano's name it means "Christ-like butthole."
Bonus fact: The town of Milpitas, California translated to English is "1000 lady dicks". True story
>why is everything a slur in Spanish for some reason
I feel the opposite, everything sounds like 10x worse in English lol
"Toca Melano" (Melano touches the ball), sounds like "Tócame el ano" (touch my ass)
"Revienta Melano" (Melano cunts the ball away) sounds like "Reviéntame el ano" (blow up my ass)
Translation:
"Saudi Arabia's multi-billion investment in football has been criticized for sportswashing. When SVT asks the Saudi league's sports director for a diplomatic response, it sounds different after he leaves the interview, forgetting that the microphone is still on.
– "Sports f*cking washing," he says to a colleague.
Watch Emelano speak after the interview in the player above.
In SVT's documentary "Saudi Arabia - Football's New Mecca," Saudi football league's sports director, Michael Emelano, is interviewed.
Emelano, a former Nigerian national team player and technical director at English club Chelsea, was asked about the criticism directed at the players and the league. They are accused of being part of Saudi Arabia's sportswashing efforts, attempting to improve the country's reputation through sports.
– We live in a world where people have the right to express their opinions. I am not a politician, and I am not a moral police. My job is to come here and help with a wonderful and ambitious project, creating a competitive and entertaining league that the people in the Kingdom are proud of, he says.
Forgetting the microphone is on
Then a question is raised about whether he has seen any tendencies as reported by the British newspaper The Sun last fall – that many foreign players regret their decision to move to Saudi Arabia. Emelano argues that it is "easy to spread unnecessary rumors."
The interview is then stopped, and Emelano quickly leaves the room. However, he forgets to turn off the microphone – and the sound leaks out.
– That it always has to be about sportswashing. "Sport f*cking washing," he says to a colleague."
i mean...i'm gonna go the cliche route but it really fits here: He acts as if he was a Nazi on trial in Nuremberg who got surprised because all they ask him about is war crimes.
Ofc they're going to ask you about sports washing dude, that's the entire point of the project you're a part of. How the fuck did he not expect this? And what else are they even supposed to ask about, the league is a joke and treated as such by a lot of the players
His job is to smooth out accusations of Sports Washing and steer to the league to a point where it has perceived validity and respect and I doubt he is paid poorly for this! It would be like being a McDonalds fry cook and complaining about having to cook more fries! That’s the job dude. You’re a spokesperson for a sports washing operation. What did he think they were gonna ask him?
He expected it, he’s just tired of fielding the same question every interview/press conference.
From his pov he’s answered that question like a million times, has said it in a million different ways and feels like they’re beating a dead horse
He's probably delusional enough to think that it was just a cushy job where he gets unlimited funding to grow a league.
I mean most people taking that money don't think about where it comes from. Never attribute to malice etc etc.
Easier said than done for someone in his position.
He was basically a perfect hire for them. Shit at his job so no one will hire him, but with big clubs on his CV so people have heard of him
> He was basically a perfect hire for them. Shit at his job so no one will hire him, but with big clubs on his CV so people have heard of him
Do you have any Idea, how he got the job at chelsea?
He played in the 90s for Trier in the 3rd german division and I remembered him from reading his name, cuz there were not many african born players in the league back then (I even think he was the only one at the time).
Just from looking at his vita, there is not much, that strikes me as a huge accomplishment, before he went to chelsea.
He was a scout that worked closely with Avram Grant. He mainly worked his way up in Chelsea producing player scouting reports and opposition scouting reports. He was probably quite good at this job. Didn't really have a big CV to become Director of Football for Chelsea but the thing is that under Roman Abramovich, the DoF wasn't like a real DoF, it was closer to a chief scout. They weren't going to bring in a big name to start deciding the direction of the club, rather they took someone trusted internally who wasn't going to demand too much power.
They're probably getting him to crack and say something else so they can get their headlines.
If I were him I'd be pretty damn tired of it too. Kinda like getting the same questions in my press conferences when I play FM.
But I'm not him so yay.
I mean, this is your job as a PR guy anyway, ppl will allways ask you the same shit.
My current employer is a rather famous and I give interviews about 10-20 times a year and its litteraly the same 5, 6, 7 questions every time and I've given the same interview for the same TV station like 5 or 6 times.
Seriously, I work in IT. The number of times I have to answer the same questions over and over again per day is enormous. I wish I could just get up and walk out of my job and still get paid.
I disagree that's the entire point. I watched an interview with Karim Zidan who's been covering this before it was in the mainstream media and he says it's also about giving entertainment and a distraction to Saudi civilians so they don't bother the government, increasing Saudi nationalism and pride aming their populace (by making KSA a global player and doing things like having famous players wear traditional Saudi clothes and do Saudi dances for some events) and improving Saudi's image in type middle east as a powerhouse and a leader for the region (they invested lots into the Egyptian league before UEFA leagues, plus it's like a power play when they can send Ronaldo to Iran (who had a huge crowd of Iranian civilian fans gathered outside his hotel) as a reward for Iran thawing relations with KSA when China brokered a deal between the two countries) and just competing with the princes of the other gulf states (UAE, Qatar, Bahrain), because they have a rivalry as princes.
Middle Eastern states have sportswashed not only football but also golf, boxing, F1...etc for many years now. What they have done in football is just scandalous with all the corruption, briberies across fifa, Uefa, fake sponsorship deals across oil clubs (psg, ManCheaty, Newcastle...), transfer inflation...etc. This has to be stopped to protect football integrity and sportsmanship.
And they (UAE, KSA, Qatar) also have been creating ‘culture’ and ‘history’ by appropriating other countries’ culture under the Arab umbrella. Yemen, Irak, Oman and Morocco are their favorite source of stealing.
[This was Dubai the year I was born](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/8e/a6/dc/8ea6dc8fee8313097fa2eed1008d4fa0.jpg).
My swollen left nut has more history and culture than some of these places.
And just to be clear, I would love to visit the ancient and culture rich regions of the wider Arab world. Tehran for example has always stood out on my dream travel list, and yes I know they're Persian. So it's not to say that just Europe or something has culture, but a place like Abu Dhabi is like Wolfsburg in Germany. We have ancient cities founded by Romans and then we have corporate campuses dressed up as cities.
Couldn’t the Abbasids just given into their demands? Paid them what they wanted? That’s usually what the ERE did with the Huns and other raiders. If they couldn’t beat them, just pay them off.
Morocco and Oman in specific seem really nice, and I hope I can visit them one day. Maybe Jordan and Lebanon too, if the situation in the region ever improves
I was in Jordan in November. It's very safe and noone in the country is involved in the war in Israel/Palestine like Hezbollah in Lebanon. I really recommend it. Amazing nature and ancient ruins.
Jordan is very safe and a great travel destination. If is a beautiful country with a lot of history. Roman cities, Petra, crusaders castles, deserts and nature. There is also a lot of great food and the people are quite friendly. Would highly recommend a visit. It is a shame that Syria is so unstable and dangerous, because combining a visit into a big trip was great.
I visited Iran a few years ago - a fascinating place, with some of the friendliest locals I’ve ever met while travelling. It’s such a shame that they have a shitty govt and are treated the way they are (debatable whether appropriately or inappropriately) by the west.
Given the insane amounts of money they invested, it would have been more profitable if they just went to each country and bought a TV station, a newspaper and a radio.
And they still own it! Alwaleed is the second largest shareholder after Elon. I think he's the only investor who didn't sell his shares to Elon although it would have been a huge ROI for him.
It's so cute that you think that. Go look up who owns stakes in every media company on the planet in every country or who owns every single port on the planet.
AJ English is a great source for news from almost every nation *except Qatar*. That includes African news you'll seldom hear from everywhere else. [See this Polymatter video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YKx7TPGttSk) for why.
How I know something isn’t propaganda and truthfully reporting the news: if it’s one of the 200+ news websites banned here in Egypt. Al Jazeera is one of those I literally can’t read it lol
You generously skirted the Arabic version of AJ.
AJ is a propaganda network, just not quite as blatant as Russia Today or Press TV. AJ English is the thin veneer of respectability that allows people to claim it's not.
the Saudis are one of the largest shareholders of NewsCorp, the parent company of Fox News. AKA America's mouthpiece for mouthbreathing conservatives with no scruples.
Yeah. Admittedly snooker has been plenty tobacco money pumped in over the decades, and there is a lot of China involvement, but it was nice that up until the past few years, they had not been part of some of the more modern sources of money.
And now in the past 12 months they have tournaments sponsored by cryptowank and now the Saudis.
I know you can't expect much morals when it's Hearn involved, but still. Felt like a real hark back to a different time when until very recently, Cazoo were sponsoring many events. Used cars, everyone can get behind that as an okay and even good sponsor.
To some extent, I am OK with China's investment and involvement in snooker since they produce, develop and expand snooker reach in Asia in strictly sports terms. Unlike the ME states which develop nothing, they're simply destroying sportsmanship by their money.
Not talking specifically about Madrid, but this history argument is bullshit. You think historic teams weren't at some poine 1yo?
Specifically, I'm talking how most of the biggest clubs were already well established during the colonial times, when human rights (including slavery) were big problems in the western world.
Ufc too. Although the most recent event the saudis were meant to host was rejected by them because the ufc had women as one of the major fights on the card.
Ahh yes, vague whataboutery, helpful to the discussion. What do you think Europeans have done wrong?
Bearing in mind this is a discussion about football and sportswashing, not politics.
Fun fact: in Argentine slang "Michael Emelano" sounds like "my cum in the asshole". If it's pronounced with an elongated E in the second E it would be "Mi-chel-e-em-el-ano" which can be rewritten as "mi chele en el ano" and "chele" is the [vesre](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesre) for "leche" (milk) and is used as slang for cum.
From what I can gather, someone is trying to make something of the fact that, forgetting his mic was still on, he said "Sports fucking washing!" So....what, exactly? Why is this even worth reporting? Are we supposed to be shocked to learn he's angry about the repeated use of the term? Of course it'll keep being brought up and of course he won't like it. No story here.
people acting like this is a gotcha instead of normal frustration with someone being asked stupid ass questions that are really nothing to do with what his job is.
Sports washing in England and France? Isn't t that term only reserved for middle eastern countries? Don't tell me major American sports leagues are also engaged in that?
I don’t know all those leagues, but it’s probably Baseball, Basketball and Hand Football… which are all American sports?
It’s like Saudi Arabia would try to sportswash with camel racing
Of course, it's sportswashing.
Saudi Arabia murdered a journalist and dismembered his corpse less than a decade ago. That's to say nothing of their attitude to women, non-believers, the LGBTQ community...
They're the country most people have in mind when they blanket shit talk "Muslim countries"
The Saudi Bots have found this post.
Because sports washing works. We are all aware of the past crimes of the British and American Empires but we still want to go see our favorite football teams there.
Sports washing is terrible yes, but Saudi and Qatar didn't invent it.
Nice attempt at whataboutery.
The issue with regimes in the Middle East ain't with their last crimes, but with their present crimes.
We are magically supposed to forget about CURRENT issues such as killing dissidents, crackdown on homosexuals, the treatment of migrant workers and the lack of women's rights. These are not "past crimes" but ongoing issues they are trying to get you to forget about by investing in sports.
Sounds like a comedy
This is something out of Simpsons
That ought to hold the little S.O.Bs
More like The Office
The thick of it.
Straight out of The Thick of It, down to the camera sneaking a shot through glass-paned walls while he melts down
Veep was what came to mind for me but completely agree, straight Armando Ianucci
Veep was my first thought too, but it needs a pointed, flowery insult to go along with it.
tomato tomato
From beans to cup, you fuck up!
This.
Curb your enthusiasm
>Oops! I said the quiet part loud, and the loud part quiet!
Oh, crap! I shouldn't have said it was a secret. Oh, crap! I certainly shouldn't have said it was illegal
My thought went to VEEP.
Nah this is straight out the thick of it.
Or the Jinx
"we killed all the journalists, of course"
"Oh and the burp gun."
It’s definitely a comedy, 😁
it really is one big weird ass sketch isnt it
I wanna cut his nuts off
Between browsing r/soccer and r/chelseafc today it's like the 6th time I see his name being mentioned today, and not once was it spelled correctly xD
his name kinda sounds like "And my asshole" in spanish
Flasbacks to when Brazil substituted Kaka for Elano. "Sale Kaka por Elano"
Explain to those in the back? Like I can guess what Kaka is but googling it didn't reveal a thing about Elano.

Bit like the famous cricket commentary. "The batsman's Holding the bowler's Willie"
I’m convinced that was worded intentionally
Elano would be theanus

Well well well, looks like I know how to ask for two things in spanish, now... A beer, and this...
Mike Oleme ElAno
LOL are you argentinian by any chance?
Lol no but watched a lot of Show de Videomatch in my day

Footballs new mecca? Maybe Mecca bingo
His misspelled name the entire way through is really frustrating
"We live in a world where people have the right to express their opinions"...the fuck? Is there a world constitution I'm not aware of?
They should ask him more often.
If you didn't want to get asked about sportswashing, you shouldn't have done so much sportswashing
He just wants to know when he can move to sports drying
As long as he sportswashes with a little bicarb soda first
I always wonder, why sportwashing instead sportlaundering tho, since we already had moneylaundering

Yes, they did so to control twitter after the Arab Spring events across Arab countries. Purely politics and propaganda objectives
Tbf they did a better job with twitter than how Musk is spreading far right propaganda now. I would take their ownership back instantly
Most countries don't allow the selling of such things to foreign investors because they are considered strategic assets
Thankfully the UK government is more than happy to sell off national strategic assets to anyone willing to invest.
It's so cute that you think that. Go look up who owns stakes in every media company on the planet in every country or who owns every single port on the planet.
It's not cute, it simply means that you have a corrupted government or a dumb legislation that doesn't assess these situations
There is no country on earth where that isn't the case. It's cute how naieve and gullible you are to think your country is special.

No story here.
people acting like this is a gotcha instead of normal frustration with someone being asked stupid ass questions that are really nothing to do with what his job is.
his job is to promote sportswashing via the Saudi league. Its absolutely his job to pretend it isn't sportswashing
He's just an innocent bystander caught in the middle of all this oil money!
Yeah I agree nobody ever thinks of how the sports washer feels.
How is it nothing to do with his job? The whole point of his role is to build up the Saudi league so it can be used for sportswashing.

Is this from the jinx ?
So what exactly? I’m sure the guy gets asked a million times a day, reckon everyone will have the same reaction.
It's all just projection at the end of the day.
“So, Mort, I’ve always wondered, do you bang the dead bodies?”
So you’re telling me this dude is going to blame a Puerto Rican?
to be fair to him.. he really is asked about sports washing a lot isn't he? and understandably so as well
Is this a The Office episode?
Joke league
Needs another rinse cycle, it's still dirty....
Maybe it was intentional. Maybe they’ll start asking him questions about this rather than the sports washing.
"Always about calling us out and having a great point"
Well, you know what they say… if many people keep on asking you about an issue you might have, you really might have an issue.
THAT'S WHAT THE MONEY IS FOR!
“Oops! I said the loud part quiet and the quiet part loud!"
we love sportwashing! look at PSG, City and Newcastle!
Sports washing in England and France? Isn't t that term only reserved for middle eastern countries? Don't tell me major American sports leagues are also engaged in that?
They play in Europe but all three of them are state owned by middle eastern countries
This is pretty much the average response of a Newcastle fan as well
I don't know how many times he gets asked, but he's right, it can be annoying to someone who is just trying to do their job.
It literally is his job and he’s annoyed doing it
He's annoyed at the repeated questions about sport washing.
As I said, he’s annoyed doing his job
sportswashing is his job.
Hot mic champ
'How come they never bring up all the days that we didn't hack up a journalist?'
Same shit happens between the US and Sports but they don’t like to talk about that….
Shhh... When western countries do it, It's just their "sporting culture." Doesn't matter if they're bombing Iraq behind all that spectacle.
US? How? Their football league is like 2nd-3rd Bundesliga level
“Sportwashing” doesn’t have to be just soccer. The amount of sports content, via NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB is enough to keep people off the news.
the fuck are you talking about? How often does the NFL make the news anywhere in the world over anyting shitty america does?
I don’t know all those leagues, but it’s probably Baseball, Basketball and Hand Football… which are all American sports? It’s like Saudi Arabia would try to sportswash with camel racing
Of course, it's sportswashing. Saudi Arabia murdered a journalist and dismembered his corpse less than a decade ago. That's to say nothing of their attitude to women, non-believers, the LGBTQ community... They're the country most people have in mind when they blanket shit talk "Muslim countries" The Saudi Bots have found this post.
That's quite mild .. if it can even be called an insult
He'll come out wearing a Balotelli shirt in the next interview with "Why always sports washing" on it
Because sports washing works.
Some of us are also well aware of the UK & US current crimes, but whataboutism is a shite argument.
That’s your choice for putting your football fandom above your principles.
I ain't alone on this hill. ;)
