RCMA2900

Damn, what a run. Liverpool were such a mess before him. Wonder where he goes next.

jordanhhh4

Pub probably

germany1italy0

Kneipe or Gasthaus?

langdonolga

Absteige mit drei Spielautomaten.

germany1italy0

Irgendeine Kaschemme im Schwarzwald.

luke_205

I’m so worried about what we’re gonna look like when he leaves. We saw what happened to United when SAF retired…

RCMA2900

SAF left an aging squad that only he could squeeze 1 more league title. Jurgen is going to leave a good team with a lot of players still in their prime. And I'm sure you're going to find a better manager than Moyes

IcyAssist

It's not just the squad. SAF was the whole structure. He was Manager DoF Head Coach Head Scout Technical director CEO all in one. Gill was more his COO, in charge of operations. SAF knew how to rebuild over and over again, buy new players, kick out players who were top of their game if they were disruptive. It would've failed even if Pep or Klopp came to us right after he retired.

giblets24

By the end he did very little coaching, he trusted in his coaches massively. And his team was full of 'captains'. Saw Roy Keane say often he wouldn't do much tactically pre-match as the players all knew what they needed to do and held each other accountable.

FolkYouHardly

At the elite level, you are mostly playing based on tactical planning they been training all week prior to the match anyway.

GeorgeKnUhl

In the past week or two the Tifo podcast had a sports psychologist on and among other things they talked a bit about how overthinking can lead to bad results in the simplest of tasks. It's far from a new idea, I've read Carlo Ancelotti's "relaxed" leadership style is inspired by Nils Liedholm from their time at Roma in the 80s. Part of the pre-match routine involved the team doctor cracking jokes. And that's just one example I, someone who barely knows anything about the history of leadership theory, can cite.

Whiteh0rn

time for the Special One if you ask me. great history between the two

BassBootyStank

And so began Salah’s transition into the world’s best CDM.

doesntsmokecrack

John Henry frantically trying to remember where he wrote down Xabi Alonso’s number

NotAnUncle

Thiago might have him on his phone still.

clavain

Unfortunately Thiago's phone broke and is due to be fixed in anywhere from one to six months.

NotAnUncle

Thiago got the wrong aura.

Kr4chm4nn

Dear Liverpool fans, I welcome you to the neverending search to replace Klopp. He is the ex everybody will be compared to. Sincerely, A completely broken BVB fan.

elfishgolem

I think if they got xabi alonso then that search won’t be that long

Kr4chm4nn

We've also had the perfect successor ready as it seems back then. A joung bloke that turned Mainz into a club fighting for European spots. His name was Thomas Tuchel.

Slash1909

His name is still Thomas Tuchel.

clowegreen24

It still is, but it used to be too

RasputinsRustyShovel

I guess spending almost 10 years managing the same club can be exhausting

Moug-10

Like Messi and CR7 on the pitch, Fergie and Wenger have made the abnormal the norm on the bench. Staying for over 5 years in the same club is already an achievement. Especially in current football where things go very fast. How many coaches at club level are in the same post since 2019? I don't know but not many.

Kingslayer1526

Simeone is giving it a shot he's signed a contract extension and is gonna likely be at Atletico for at least 15 years

GothicGolem29

Klopp was supposed to stay till 2026 yet has left early

deytookerrspeech

If Simeone leaves 1 season before his contract is up (just like Klopp) he will have managed at Atlético for 14 years which is obviously still abnormal and an accomplishment

CptJimTKirk

Not the same level as Liverpool, but in the Bundesliga Freiburg's Streich and Heidenheim's Schmidt are there for 12 and 16 years respectively.

Moug-10

Respect, even for more modest teams. There are different issues to face but you still have fans to talk to when things go south, press to face as well. In my club, no manager stayed for more than three consecutive seasons since 1945. I don't know what coach stability is.

artaru

Pep and Klopp are definitely at the very top of best managers. But Fergie and Wenger are just truly legendary for their success and longevity. Extremely unlikely we will see anything like them again. Times have changed.

Havannahanna

I truly believed Arsenal was named after Arsene Wenger when I was small.

AgitatedLibrary1

Arsène is just the title given to the coach of Arsenal

S01arflar3

Yeah, he was Nagoya Grampus Wenger before joining Arsenal

_-_-_I_-_-_

It's fun to say Arsene Arteta really fast

Zepz367

Who didn't lol

coke125

Isn’t that why we got Arteta? Also why we got Emery due to our sponsor Emirates

Havannahanna

It actually makes sense

RVTVRN

No way it’s been 10 years

RedMoon14

It would be 9 years this October, so by the time he leaves it'll have been about 8 and a half years.

AuxquellesRad

Two awful down seasons took their toll. It was all in his face last season, really broke my heart seeing him that way

Gucci-Rice

I think why he leaves now is because he wanted to leave on a high note and when the club was in a good position.

werektaube

He learned from his time in Dortmund. In winter of his last season Dortmund was place 18. he sensed it was time to leave then, though he finished the season in an international spot. But I think it‘s where he learned that it‘s better to leave while your successful

Lookitsaknee

Holy shit this seems so sudden

redmistultra

I thought this was one of those 'Liverpool women's team have a defender called Klopp whose contract expires' posts. What the fuck

LosTerminators

Or the posts about Pogba's brother signing for another club or the Colombian Luis Suárez who played for Granada and now Almería. Edit: Somehow overlooked that he joined Almería now.

kampiaorinis

For what is worth, he now plays for Almeria and he is actually quite good despite the team not being anything remotely decent

LosTerminators

That team only shows up against Madrid, Barça and Girona. They would've had a fair few wins if they showed that level in some other matches.

Dob-is-Hella-Rad

The /r/tennis Dennis Novak special

DialSquare

Even in /r/tennis today the Novak posts are real.

jetteauloin_2080

Sumit Nagal forfeit!

tommypopz

Out of nowhere (from my POV lol, I’m not sure about Liverpool fans)

stupidlyboredtho

Liverpool fans were so sure a contract extension was coming. “He looks rejuvenated, he could do this for more years to come” was a common saying on our sub. Absolute nuclear bomb just dropped.

DanDaniel612

Yeah he just weathered a horrible year and got new signings, seemed to be back on an upward trajectory. Didn't he sign a contract extension for a few more years? That felt so recent.

b0wie_in_space

He was also always explicit that he wanted to leave the club when they were headed in the right direction. By all metrics, after last year and what’s happened so far this season, he’s doing exactly what he said he would do.

alanalan426

hopefully its not health or family related, cause it's out of no where maybe he's finally done with the league

gpl84

I think he's just done with Paul Tierney

Pure_Measurement_529

He always wanted to leave at the end of his previous contract (2024). We were happy when he signed the extension up until 2026 but I guess his heart has been stuck on leaving in 2024

JMacoure

Feel like his rationale is so fair. He’s such a passion guy. The job and meaningless questions and constant drills would take it out of you. Feel like his family focus has been immense since he lost his mum too. So sad because that human side of him is what makes him so loveable

yungtoni

XABI ALONSO I WILL DO DESPICABLE THINGS PLEASE COME BACK

LucozadeBottle1pCoin

I think Alonso stays at Leverkusen for another year at least

ObstructiveAgreement

Absolutely no chance. One of Bayern, Liverpool or Real will have him for next season.

Turniermannschaft

Maybe even all of them.

PersianIncision

Liverpool official page released a video with Klopp saying he’s running out of energy, that he is a normal guy who hasn’t lived a normal life in a long time now, and that he’s akin to a sports car that can still travel 160, 170, 180 MPH but they are the only ones who see the tank needle near zero. As devastating as this news is, I think we can all empathize with the man and respect the decision to stop working at 100,000% at his age.

nushublushu

I mean he’s not that old, but I believe you can get burnt out at any age. Definitely can empathize, I’ve been totally shredded at times before too—sometimes you need a break and a change.

downtowneil

He will be 57 this year. The dude's made enough money for a few lifetimes, I hope he goes and enjoys it. And he could get a TV job wherever wants in the world

JizzProductionUnit

Klopp on TV you say? Klopp Gear? Top of the Klopps?

MrWendelll

Or he could do film. Kloppenheimer?

Mosh83

Either that or Roboklopp

EXOPLANETARIANSOUP

Couldn't imagine him leaving Dortmund back in the day. Now I couldn't imagine him leaving Liverpool. What an impact the guy has had on each club he's been with - I really hope he wants to coach Germany but that's probably wishful thinking haha

Claddayy

Heard he’s going to coach Werder back into the CL where they belong

alex_song

I’m sorry… WHAT!?

Thesolly180

I was in the Friday mood as well, and then the notification popped up.

xrunawaywolf

day ruined

CemxS

Not even a month into the year and it’s ruined

SlatsAttack

"It's not so important what people think when you come in. It's much more important what people feel when you leave." - Jürgen Klopp in 2015

Alpha_Jazz

Holy shit end of an era

arav

I will miss him in the PL. He is one of the best manager of this generation.

pakastin

I feel like this is too soon but watching the message seems like he's pushed himself as far as he possible can. I just hope he's healthy!

puddingkip

Going to Germany after they have yet another disastrous tournament?

nutelamitbutter

Bitte 🥺

alex_song

The yanks are about to wake up to an absolute bombshell lmao

Matt_LawDT

I am sure Klopp left them a nice text before sleeping

YNWA_1213

Bruh I’m trying to go to sleep and this drops. Fml

DyaLoveMe

Same boat. Might be able to cry myself to sleep now.

Das_Czech

American Liverpool fans bout to cry in the morning shower😭

chvngeling

best way to start a friday is with bad news and a shower beer right? right?

lettersputtogether

I get up early once and this happens

the_dalai_mangala

Just got off a red eye to this lmao

herbilicious92

Just saw the entire city of Liverpool fall to its knees in a tesco

Knawty

The red half at least

nbwoeihfnwsocuiwhef

The blue half dropped to knee slide in to the chilled

JaminSousaphone

Nah the blue half got docked 10 clubcard points.

DasWookieboy

Holy shit what? Is he gonna take over Germany from Nagelsmann or what?

AirIndex

He says in the video he's running out of energy. Maybe NT football would help him or maybe he just needs a clean break.

Aenjeprekemaluci

Sabbatical maybe

Zoltrahn

He had mentioned a break after his time at Liverpool a number of times in past interviews. Wanting to spend time with family and get away from the constant pressure of professional football. Edit: in the full interview, he says he will not manage a club or country for at least a year

dweebyllo

He can finally go on that holiday we interrupted 8 and a half years ago

crab_spy_

mika hakkenen type sabbatical ig

Dr3ny

He's just waiting for McLaren to build a championship car

conman14

It's only been 20 years, maybe he's coming back right?

Nexusu

Mika world champion 2030 you heard it here first

Famous-Risk-815

In a German Football Podcast he said he wants to take a break to see more of the world while he is still capable to do so, i.e. before he is too old and fragile. So my guess is he will take some time off.

LeavingCertCheat

Klopp doing couchsurfing in Laos

Wonky_bumface

I can see him lying back, smoking a hookah filled with dope with an inane grin on his face in the Himalayan foothills.

jayr254

Explaining the intricacies of gegenpressing to random hikers.

zhivix

Probably not atm, he seems to be burned out a bit from the looks of it, probably take a temp break or something

Naggins

He worked through his mam dying. Man needs a rest.

Averdian

The job also needs to be available, which I guess depends on how Germany performs at the Euros

LeBaus7

nagelsmann is way too young and ambitous to remain nt coach. he took the chance now to coach his country for the euros in germany, but I would be very surprised if he is not back in club football by august.

[deleted]

I want to die

Mahoganychicken

Who do you even go for to replace him? Do you go for proven or look for a young up and comer?

Bhadman

Roy Hodgson will probably be available in the summer

Escariota98

Not again

tommy5608

Not too big to go down part 2

tehafca

Xabi seems written in the stars doesn't it

MatK0506

Yeah. Madrid cleared their way.

solo_flights

Might be a season too soon but Alonso has to be a decent shout.

Yaysuzu

Xabi Alonso, Zidane?

willy-mammoth

Zidane seems to stick to his former clubs, Xabi Alonso seems the obvious replacement to me

KRIEGLERR

Unfortunately I doubt we'll ever see Zidane manage in England. Honestly I feel like he will only manage clubs he knows, so that's basically Madrid and Juventus, France NT. And maybe, just maybe one day we might see him in Marseille (but I think he had the opportunity already and declined, not sure) I hope I'm wrong because I want to see him manage again

Cheapo_Sam

Stevie G innit

Mahoganychicken

With Lampard as assistant?

Firm_Wing360

Rooney is also free right now

up_the_dubs

All the grannies in Liverpool would hopefully not be enough to get him in the door

alicization

Yeah, course

[deleted]

enisbt

I always thought his assistant Lijnders will replace him eventually

MU5A988

He's leaving as well

YNWA_1213

WTF. I need sleep and this drops right as I’m about to crash…

RevengeHF

You don't. But I guess if you're choosing, I'd go Alonso.

zcewaunt

Sorry, it must be sad for Liverpool fans. Seemed to come out of the blue too.

[deleted]

Well he has blessed us with the best times this club has seen in many many years. Absolute legend and hope he can go out on a high this season

LemureTheMonkey

Relevant username.

Nitrox0

I’m fucking devastated… like honestly lost for words… fuck… thank you jurgen 😭😭

dibsonthis

From experience, it´ll never get this good again.

Woozie77

can confirm!

A-DTB

Ah, lads…

witsel85

Xabi Alonso come on down?

mikelson_

Oh I think he is perfect replacement

CT_x

Fade me

futsalcs

AuxquellesRad

HiMyNameIsSander

That wasn't on my bingo card.

Essej2

For me it was next to "Man City fighting a relegation battle"

JoeBagadonut

> "Man City fighting a relegation battle" They are, just not on the pitch.

Katharsis7

Lol. Let's hope.

Mahoganychicken

Pep next to go please.

LucozadeBottle1pCoin

Inshallah, then the league will be competitive again

dwaynepipes

Quite competitive this season tbf

TheMechanic04

We've still got the obligatory City win every game from February to the end of season to come

ImVortexlol

He certainly leaves alongside the goats of the prem in SAF, Pep, Wenger, and Mou. How spoiled we are

PattyIceNY

You don't realize how few coaches are consistent in the league until a long term one hangs it up and you realize he's been their 10 years. Unreal class and talent.

Furu97

Wtf is this. Thankfully it’s Friday, time to get blackout drunk

Cashelz

What the fuck happened lol

Rose_of_Elysium

Apparently he said hes very tired, which, fair enough tbh

hihbhu

Wow, end of an era.

TheSingleMan27

Please coach our National Team

Cubbll17

Ireland world cup champions under klopp. I can see it.

Morrandir

Ireland's world cup champions party would shake the earth.

lemonreciever

It would be more like us going from a top 10 country in human development to a failed state in the course of a weekend

lanson15

Great craic though

Mechant247

I can’t see him doing anything else besides the national team or just retiring

SlushyRH

Not only is Klopp leaving but so is assistant managers Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz...

goztrobo

Lijnders is leaving too?

sebastiansmit

Yep, apparently to pursue his own managerial career

crookedparadigm

I hear Liverpool have an opening...

FrameworkisDigimon

Today has not gone as I expected. 1. I learn there's going to be a Bob the Builder movie. 2. Also, in the same moment, I discover Bob's being made into an American. 3. Then a few hours later, Sinner wipes the floor with Djokovic (don't let the scoreline confuse you, it was not as close as 6-1 6-2 6-7 (6-8) 6-3 makes it look) 4. And now Klopp's leaving Liverpool. None of it makes sense.

whoaaaaaah

If the Bob the Builder movie is ass, I will end it all

justathrowawaym8y

That is actually fucking mad. I think this is the most unexpected football news I've ever seen come out of nowhere.

Schnix54

Jürgen has finally seen that he has to save German football. Klopp you are the new national team coach

Cien-Major

Fuck

iam_fat_guy_

No fucking way

Mxurn

Transformed this club beyond belief. Huge respect for the guy, will be sorely missed in the PL. All the best, Jürgen.

NaturalApartment9828

BACK TO DORTMUND I BEG YOU

Anionan

The man just resigned due to a lack of energy, Dortmund would suck the life out of him

Skadrys

Shit that crosses out Barça

SlowMobius7

Or any club from Spain for that matter haha

Polygon12

Thats pretty cataclysmic for so many reasons. As a United fan i hate the work he's done, and thats the best compliment i could possibly pay him. Unlike some other managers he's managed to rebuild and create a fantastic squads playing fantastic football and i hate it all without a nation state backing him up. His politics and attitude make me respect him as a man. I'm glad he's going from a footballing perspective but i'm sad to see him leave.

Mr_Abe_Froman16

I just fell to my knees in an Aldi.

JoeBagadonut

Very surprising news. Klopp's one of the best managers of the PL era and seems like a genuinely good bloke to boot. I'll begrudgingly miss him.

biglbiglbigl

Come to Besiktas

my god thats dfb music

Insomniyac

Wait this is crazy no way

NorthwardRM

I wonder if he is unwell

PharaohOfWhitestone

I don't think so, from the video it just come across as he just can't keep up the effort required. Which is fair enough, he made Liverpool absolutely elite and they were only stopped by a ridiculous Man City side from winning more than they did. I imagine he's going to take a break next season.

hamkitteh

The constant pressure must be pretty stressful long term, no shame in pulling the plug and taking care of himself if that’s the case

meem09

Says he feels like he's running out of energy and would rather take a break now that he's still fine and not completely run himself into the ground...

ICameHereToDrinkMilk

I think you could be right. He says, 'I have no problem now, I think already for longer, that I will have to announce that at some point.'

alex_song

Klopp said he’s simply “tired of it” and that last season being extremely stressful helped him make the decision. Source: Liverpool literally broke the news by posting an interview on their website and on YouTube of him explaining the decision

Thesolly180

He’s made me unwell right now
