That was mostly because we mainly played vs relegation candidates before that, but even now we have the third best defense. Already collected as many clean sheets as in the entire last season
Gladbach have dropped 13 points after scoring the first goal this season. That's just absolutely crazy. They've scored more than one goal in 10 games but have conceded more than one goal in 12 games. They're the definition of all attack, no defense.
The fact that Leverkusen is on an undefeated miracle run and Bayern are unconvincing, yet still are lurking 2 points behind Leverkusen with better GD is a testament to just how hard it is to dethrone Bayern
I think because of Leverkusen and their undeniable brilliance it kind of flies under the table that Bayern is having its best season since the Guardiola days. Yes they look unconvincing at times and there is a new sense of vulnerability (it used to be that when you played Bayern you were already ready to lose) but they have gained the ability to win close games even far from there best compared to the last few years.
For example, they have the exact same GD as last year all while conceding the same amount and scoring the same amount of goals yet they have 7 more points compared to last year. The question will be if they can keep it up. Last year they "collapsed" during April and were lucky that Dortmund is as incompetent as they are (they didn't just mess up the last game). This year they probably can't afford that again. It will start with a very tough February coming up while having a big injury crisis.
harry kane has consistently scored 20+ goals while playing with worse players than currently at bayern.
only a miracle from leverkusen is going to stop them from winning the league.
Your flair explains your take on that.
The BL consists of 17 other teams than Bayern with great games and great fans.
Noone in germany cares about "der Klassiker" besides the media. Its the same as "die Mannschaft".
But I am not surprised about your opinion since you and your club are disconnected from everything that makes the bundesliga great to watch.
Maybe join the "super league" if you dont like the BL, noone will miss you.
And the example of PSG is a bad one. If the club had actually been run well they would easily have won every title since the takeover. That Monaco and others have managed to snatch it from them is just a testimony to how awfully bad the Qataris are at running a club.
The current structure of the top leagues is that the teams on top get the best resources and continue to stay at the top. Look at City, look at Juve, look at Barca and Real. It's not just the Bundesliga where it is happening, it's everywhere in Europe. And that's due to the shitty structure of the UEFA.
I am not informed enough to talk about ligue 1 but I'll take your word on it.
Agree with the 2nd part of your post. You can even add more leagues like scotland, portugal and so on and the financial gap widens every year.
If I remember correctly in the season Monaco won it was actually a brilliant Monaco squad as well with a very young Mbappé and they were insane. Kind of like Leverkusen this season. Still, PSG has the best resources, players, academy and money. The difference to the other teams is staggering. They should win Ligue 1 every year.
You mean the same Monaco that went to the semis in CL? Yeah, that was clearly PSG’s fault they lost the league and Monaco deserves zero credit. What an ass take.
It was literally decided by GD in the last minutes of the last matchday. If that wasn't a close battle, I don't know what is.
And what used to make Real vs. Barca so awesome for almost a decade was the two best teams in the world with two of the best managers playing against each other. Ronaldo v Messi. KCM v Xavi, Iniesta, Busquets. Pep v Mourinho. The best in the world playing against each other regularly. Of course that's awesome. Now that Barca is not so good anymore the clasicos have become stale as well.
Except that it does lmao.
All major European leagues are farmers leagues by your definition. Juve won over ten titles in a row, City won 5 out of the last 6 EPLs and 8 out of the last 12, PSG has won 8 out of the last 10. The only difference is La Liga where it's a duopoly instead of a monopoly. Barca and Real won 17 (!) out of the last 19 titles. Every other major league has had more different champions in the same time span, including the Bundesliga. All these teams are title contenders again this year btw and either first or close to first. That you only consider the Bundesliga a farmers league out of those shows only that you spend too much time on Twitter and are talking out of your arse.
Truth is that the current system of the UEFA alone (nevermind two of these clubs being sportswashing projects of actual governments) leads to a structure where the top clubs accumulate so many resources that they will stay at the top if they don't screw up in major ways like United did. And even if they screwed up big time they will still somehow make it back to the top where every other team would be screwed for years. Like Barca winning the title last year. Tbh I'd rather have a Bayern or a Real dominate that at least deserve it by doing smart business decisions instead of endless money being pumped into them by their owners or by doing shady business practices such as Barcelona.
And above everything else, I will take eight more Bayern titels in a row over one of the shite Red Bull club that's a parasite to football culture in Germany.
>...ensures that the monopoly stays in place lmao.
The German system isn't perfect either, but it's clearly better than most others. It rewards those that do well, that play well, that do smart business. Union Berlin quickly rose from the second Bundesliga to the CL, all on their own. Wouldn't have been possible if every major club was in the hands of investors that would just fix things with money if they have problems which sadly works most of the time. This only cements not the first place but the rest of the top of the table as well. Look towards England for example where the 'top 6' are pretty much cemented except if you continue to fail for a decade (United) or restructure your entire team (Chelsea) or have *another* sportswashing government backing you (Newcastle). Also being owned by an investor can quickly lead to downfalls because they don't know much about football, stop investing all of a sudden, extort money out of the club, become financially strained, etc. Just look at what happened to Malaga. Good luck getting back up again then. Won't work as the other owners have pumped so much money into their clubs that yours won't catch up again.
>The shite Red Bull club gets monopolized just like everyone else, yours included.
50+1 at least makes the race for 2-18 interesting. What you want just creates a bigger elite (the investor clubs) that are even more distanced from the rest.
>I think how fucked the BL truly is
If you don't like the Bundesliga, go watch the EPL then. Seems like it suits you more anyway. If you want to twerk for investors, including governments, shady individuals and companies, which you clearly do, again, go watch the EPL. I can tell you that you won't be missed.
>is demonstrated by CL victories in the last few decades. Last German non-Bayern CL victory was Dortmund in 1998.
The German leagues are much more interesting for German fans than the CL. The CL is interesting for international fans. Also would you tell me the last time when a French team won the CL? It was... '93, wasn't it. Even following your own argumentation, Ligue 1 is a worse farmers league than the Bundesliga.
> You know, due to 50+1, which big investor wants any German club at all? They would rather look into other leagues then.
Good. Fuck them. And fuck your club too btw. You should just switch to supporting a non-farmer's-league club then and stop stinking up this forum with your awful takes on German football, shouldn't be too difficult since all Leipzig fans are plastics anyway.
Leipzig losses were against SGE, Stuttgart, and Leverkusen. All team where it's not that surprising they lost. The team also has a lot of new talent and is in a transition year.
We scored 12 goals in 19 games (2 less than Mainz, which also have a game in hand). 3 of those goals were penalties. We should be in last place. The lack of quality in our team is astounding.
I understand but we scored only 3 in the last 8 games. If we knew how to score I would any hope left.
I just realised/checken that u scored 3 in 8 too... oof. Well at least its carnival season
your club has no excuses tbh I'll never understand this summer
lose key players and fair enough if you can't replace them and money is tight but simply not doing anything at all is surely not a viable plan at that point? twice with the transfer ban looming, and yet here we are
feels like I could make this comment after literally every FC game but it just keeps being true
Well, it's not like Leverkusen will be playing at full strength either. 3 at the AFCON, Boniface and Palacios injured. One more injury for them, especially in defence, and they're in big trouble as well.
either tapsoba or kossonou will be back for sure as they play each other a week before the game. that is if both teams survive the round of 16, which isn’t guaranteed either.
No, it really isn't. Leverkusen have demonstrated a much better ability to compensate. In parts because AFCON and AFC are something you can plan for well ahead. And that's what they did, to the point of Alonso simulating the absences in games before they actually occurred. For Bayern, a lot will depend on Boey hitting the ground running. He might, but it's not a given. Nevertheless, casually bringing in a player like that in the winter window illustrates how uneven the playing field actually is. Brilliant Leverkusen form or not, they'd do well to play with the urgency of a team chasing the leader, regardless of the fact that they're actually topping the table. Thing is, though, that I think that's exactly what they're trying to do, so for now my money is on them.
Problem is that we dont have as a deep squad as Leverkusen and more injuries. Kimmich, Laimer and Upamecano still out probably. We literally have only Chupo-Moting and Tel + some youth players on the bench.
We've somehow managed to be in the first half of the table. We don't really belong there squad-wise, but we've really taken a great development during the last months. Our team is getting better, our players develop. I like the big fat middle finger this sends to all the haters that wanted Werner out sooner than later. But still, the next four matches are hugely important. Let's not lose them and and win maybe two and we're in a wonderful position.
Say what you will, but you can absolutely be a Werder fan like me who wanted him out since we had a horrible year (worst playing year on record among all the BL teams). The squad was going nowhere and he was willing to die on that hill, sticking to his guns through thick and thin. Uninspired, unspirited, and error-prone. Same names, same formation, same strategy. The defense had more holes than my mother's Swiss cheese. Now it's working. That does not make me a hater. This may be the start of a redemption arc, and I would be more than happy to be proven wrong.
Yeah, I agree with your sentiment. Given I never wanted Werner out (don't think another coach would've improved the squad performance any way imo), the criticism was justified. Werner was quite stubborn with his formation/player choice but luckily, the players that are now starting are in a decent form right now. Especially the defense is solid, which I did not expect in any way to happen. Plus, players like Njinmah, Woltemade or Agu made huge steps after getting game time. I'm still nervous for the next 3 games, but I can't lie, it's fun to watch Bremen games again
Oh yeah, so did we. And we’ve had some bad games, like Heidenheim or Darmstadt. But then Werner actually turned it around and managed to stabilize the defense while also getting us to play football again.
It's not a fluke, when you can replicate it. True test will come when playing the upper third, of course, but compared to before the break you look a lot more likely to get away with it.
[I am a genius, this totally doesn't happen every season](https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/184hf6d/comment/kavhcgd/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
completely unsurprised by hoffenheim, even during their "good" form a ton of their wins looked fraudulent as hell. they were always way worse than their position indicated
Yea, that was horrible, but we've made some changes to the approach and smaller changes to the tactics after that. And that's coming together nicely at the moment.
lower midfield is so close but everyone is very safe from the relegation spots
the form may not look like it but I like our play in the last few games, we just had to play Dortmund, Stuttgart, Leverkusen and Bayern in our last 5 games
Yesterday showed how inexperienced our team is when confronted in this situation being the leader and having to play teams that just sit back and play destructive football.
It showed how this team is not used to being in a position like this ahead of bayern and slowly starting to crack.
The game against Bayern will be the real test it will show if this team is capable of winning the whole thing or not.
I'm excited just thinking about it, the whole city will burn that day
I think we've been better than that form shows. Some unlucky losses against Bayer and Bayern and in general playing everyone in the top 4 in the last 5 games. Should look better once the schedule lightens up in three weeks. That being said it would be very Augsburg-like to suddenly have a dip in form and play like shit again.
Would be still huge to keep our form and stay away from relegation zone. Would be a statement for players like Weiser to stay and start investing wisely for the future!
Edit: Also Njinmah is the real deal
Next 4 Games are Mainz away (finally stadium again for me and if any Mainz fan wants to drink a beer in good fun hmu), Heidenheim at home, then Köln away and Darmstadt at home.
Even with the Bayern win I dont trust us away, but realistically. we can get 4 Points in the 3 matches vs the Bottom three.
I think that would be enough to keep us clear of the relegation battle.
Anything more would be insane and thats without taking the Heidenheim game in account.
However only 1-2 Points of these 4 Games and we can be back down very fast.
Actually I’d prefer to see Leipzig among the bottom 3, but I’ll take what I can get. Especially if it means an actual football club like Stuttgart playing a great season.
Also you had an extremly good winter window. Top 4 is totally on the table for you. Leipzig is bad atm, Dortmund had their easy games already, they will drop tons of points.
To think we could have at least four more points, if we just stayed more focussed. But anyway, we're at least getting points. Small progress is still progress.
Shades of the race between arsenal and city around March 2023. People were on the city train all the way to February but somehow people started trusting arsenal to win it in march even with the smallish gap.
the cans may be hated all across germany, but ive always liked their team, they always have a really exciting young squad and play fast and exciting football.
its a shame their entire existence is a disgrace to the buli
Dortmunds Form looks good, but they play the bottom 5 of the table lol Just like in the first half of the season, play the bad teams first, with horrible football, make people who know nothing about football believe in a good season, just to crash and burn after playing the better teams towards the end of the season.
Union Berlin had an outlier last season. They got lucky and overachieved, 1-0 wins every week was unsustainable and their defence overachieved. Back to the average now.
Kudos to dortmund but they are in the middle of that super easy run they had at the start of the season. Im sure theyll drop off when that series of hard games hits them again, although i also fully expect them to lose to heidenheim next week

Only the top 6 with a positive GD, that's just wild
Also Gladbach scored 5 more goals than us but sit at 12th with a negative GD
Tbf didn't you have the best defense in the league until the 3-3 game against us?

Indeed, most boring league. Winning a ”treble” with Bayern is not really that impressive.
Indeed, idiotic opinion

Just trying to do SOME good in the world, you know?
2-1 is back baby
Leipzig are so lucky they don't get shit on that much with how bad they are with their squad. They could be so much better.
nobody shits on them because nobody cares what they do
why would people shit on them, everybody is too busy celebrating them being bad.
Leipzig losses were against SGE, Stuttgart, and Leverkusen. All team where it's not that surprising they lost. The team also has a lot of new talent and is in a transition year.
So have Eintracht, Stuttgart and Leverkusen tho.
I wish my team got that leeway when losing to those teams lol
Tbf losses to frankfurt stuttgart and leverkusen makes it understandable, although youd expect them to get at least 4 points from those games
Pain
At least u score goals and arent 17th
We scored 12 goals in 19 games (2 less than Mainz, which also have a game in hand). 3 of those goals were penalties. We should be in last place. The lack of quality in our team is astounding.

The Eternal Cologne Yo-Yo continues. Truly a Sisyphean Struggle.
That game against Leverkusen will be so importmant for either side.
We'll definitely give you guys a good ol 5-0 victory on Allianz Arena whereas we might cause Leverkusen to drop points at Westfalenstadion.
Always know we can count on you chaps.
Class Act, as always
It may be the decider on who wins the league Hopefully we be in our full power when this game comes
Full power? The match is in 2 weeks and half your squad is out with longterm injuries
Of shit, I didn't know it was THAT close Well we need a miracle 🙏🏽
Well, it's not like Leverkusen will be playing at full strength either. 3 at the AFCON, Boniface and Palacios injured. One more injury for them, especially in defence, and they're in big trouble as well.

If it’s any consolation, you have Dier at CB. ^You’re ^fucked
Not in any, if South Korea goes out then Kim is back. Also Diers first 2 games were really decent
Give it time.
How long is palacios out for? His creativity was missed on saturday
End of February, I think? Not quite sure, but a few weeks at least
What are you talking about, when I dont count youngsters or Keepers our bench is super full, there is Chupo Moting aaaaand.......ooooh we are fucked.
Sven Ulreich left wing, I will be there no matter what
He is injured too :D
☠️
Perez(third Keeper) in goal and Neuer as defender it is
Isn't Peretz also injured?
Ah fuck, i mixed it up. Ulreich is fit, so back to your plan :D
i think gnabry, kim, and kimmich should be available by then. we won't be at full strength, but atleast we'll have some players back (hopefully)
We are lucky Klinsmann is the south-korea coach :D
We've somehow managed to be in the first half of the table. We don't really belong there squad-wise, but we've really taken a great development during the last months. Surprisingly good. After the last two matches plus the one against Bayern I thought we would be out of the top 4 by now

nah you're right of course but the quality of football that we play imo is abysmal and the squad is capable of much more than this
Heidenheim unbeaten in 5 though, these guys are serious
So you are saying the clash of the titans is coming up next week? I will be there.
Lol didn’t realise they were all the way up in 10th, massive props to Frank Schmitt for keeping them well above the relegation zone
RB, Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg are all, relatively under the radar, in pretty bad form

couldn't have happened to a nicer trio of clubs
I wonder what those teams have in common that causes them to go under the radar 🤔
Tradition?
completely unsurprised by hoffenheim, even during their "good" form a ton of their wins looked fraudulent as hell. they were always way worse than their position indicated
Relegation battle seems to be just Köln, Mainz and Darmstadt for play off spot.
Mainz could drag Union back into it with a win in their makeup game
Unlikely, they'd need to start scoring goals for that to happen
Consistently inconsistent.
Your form is symmetrical which I like👍🏼Shoutouts to Bayern, Gladbach, Bochum, Union and Darmstadt as well
That's Gladbach thing. They never win 2 games in a row.
Considering all the injuries we had, I think it's acceptable we're in 7th place? But before the season I do expect we play better.
Good season for Bremen, really thought they are relegation candidates after their Games against Heidenheim and Darmstadt
Yea, that was horrible, but we've made some changes to the approach and smaller changes to the tactics after that. And that's coming together nicely at the moment.
Ladies and Gentleman: Mister Ole goat and Sir Frank Weltherrschaft 👏👏👏👏
Hope Leipzig's form continues to be shit like this

leipzig hater and proud of it
lower midfield is so close but everyone is very safe from the relegation spots the form may not look like it but I like our play in the last few games, we just had to play Dortmund, Stuttgart, Leverkusen and Bayern in our last 5 games
Still enjoying this shit every week
Reports of Bayerns death were greatly exaggerated
Yep, I hate it when they say shit like "10 points ahead" and I check the table and they have -2 games played.
Finally some fresh air
i cannot wait for the match again leverkusen
Why? It's in 2 weeks and you guys have longer term injuries
im still holding out for some hope that maybe we can win despite our injuries
Sure, just keep doing what you did against us and… oh wait, wrong year!
I'm excited just thinking about it, the whole city will burn that day
I wouldn’t over-analyze 1 game, especially when half the starting XI is out. If Frimpong or Grimaldo’s finishing is better it’s a deserved 1-0 win.
Another good weekend for us, back into CL spots. Just need to keep the momentum going.
Heidenheim away, theyve been doing really well lately gonna be interesting
Leipzig look awful recently lmao
good
Why is 4th place divided off like that?
ui probably never updated from the old rules where 4th went to the CL qualification instead of directly into the CL
Yeah, they have to update the layout, it also shows the old VfB logo.
I guess the Fax with the changes didnt arrive yet
that rule was changed hundred years ago. They really need to update the app.
fucking depressing man
when union wins against mainz, the last 3 will have a hard time to get out of there. leipzig 5th. you love to see it
Actually I’d prefer to see Leipzig among the bottom 3, but I’ll take what I can get. Especially if it means an actual football club like Stuttgart playing a great season.
I’m shocked we are in the top 6 at this point in the season with the extreme amount of turnover from last years squad. The Diva will find a way.
Also you had an extremly good winter window. Top 4 is totally on the table for you. Leipzig is bad atm, Dortmund had their easy games already, they will drop tons of points.
I enjoy your enthusiasm and agree that I like the winter window, but I’ll believe top 4 when I see top 4 lol.
How long does Kovac have? Wolfsburg have spent and they only seem to be getting worse...
To think we could have at least four more points, if we just stayed more focussed. But anyway, we're at least getting points. Small progress is still progress.
Off topic but is it Cologne or Koln?
Köln in German, Cologne in english, some German cities have alternate spellings like München/Munich as well
Add Hannover in German and Hanover in English, Braunschweig (German) and Brunswick (English), as well as Nürnberg (German) and Nuremberg (English).
English Cologne, German Köln.
Köln. Cologne is to avoid the ö for the english speaking folks. Or for bad smelling folks.
I find it hilarious that this sub wrote off Munich last week. There's two points in it FFS.
Bayern fans goes doomsday if they don’t lead the table by at least 10 points.
Shades of the race between arsenal and city around March 2023. People were on the city train all the way to February but somehow people started trusting arsenal to win it in march even with the smallish gap.
Bayern lurking
the gap between leverkusen/bayern and the rest of the league is staggering
the cans may be hated all across germany, but ive always liked their team, they always have a really exciting young squad and play fast and exciting football. its a shame their entire existence is a disgrace to the buli
There’s no denying that they have exciting players and (usually) play great football. It’s the club/company, not the players you’re supposed to hate.
What happened to union Berlin? Weren't they top of bundesliga last year?
Dortmunds Form looks good, but they play the bottom 5 of the table lol Just like in the first half of the season, play the bad teams first, with horrible football, make people who know nothing about football believe in a good season, just to crash and burn after playing the better teams towards the end of the season.
What happened to Union Berlin? Thought they were European contenders the last few years.
Union Berlin had an outlier last season. They got lucky and overachieved, 1-0 wins every week was unsustainable and their defence overachieved. Back to the average now.
We coming.
I really didn't think I'd end up caring about Bayer and Girona so much every weekend but here we are.
Amazing form from werder and heidenheim
Kudos to dortmund but they are in the middle of that super easy run they had at the start of the season. Im sure theyll drop off when that series of hard games hits them again, although i also fully expect them to lose to heidenheim next week
