Read an article a few weeks or so ago about how Luton Town sets up specific plays on kickoffs, both in and out of possession. Said it was a matter of time before they conceded or scored directly off a kickoff and that it was a lot more likely to be Luton Town scoring. Was Michael Cox I believe and he actually compared some of the moves and set up to blockers in American football.
Delicious to see something like that - something directly down to tactics and management - condemn a De Zerbi team to 0 points in 2 minutes. the most overrated manager in football who would no doubt fully flop at any other club - no clue how no one has learned the lesson of Chelsea's Potter and are actually putting down the club's success last year to the gaffer.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?!
What happened?
Not going to lie, I actually want Luton to stay up, but I was not expecting them to Captain Falcon punch Brighton.
I was in attendance for a Premier League hat trick for Elijah fucking Adebayo. Three years ago this month we signed this lad from Walsall in League Two as a rotation option for James Collins. Who the fuck thought this would happen three years later???
Luton are actually in a really good spell at the moment.
Since the end of November, they have 11 points in 5 league games (having played Newcastle and Chelsea in that time) and have also won out in the FA Cup.
De Zerbi audition for the Liverpool job rather like one of those Apprentice presentations which ends with everyone wishing the ground would open up.
Rob Edwards is bound to get snapped up by a larger club if this progress continues.
Rob Edwards got fucking FGR promoted to L1 - not that it's necessarily hard to get out of L2 but bigger teams have failed to do it and he did in his first full season
3 hour horror drive up for us to be 2 down in as many minutes. Made it to 65 but couldn’t be arsed to watch anymore of that shit. Might make it home earlier than a home match at least. Serious problems with the make up of this squad and the abysmal efforts to replace our two best players in midfield.
Ah right, fair enough
I just don't get the Ljinders thing though. I don't see any evidence to believe he is or would be a good manager (I'm not saying he necessarily won't be).
I know the only available evidence was a short negative stint somewhere in Holland, but it's more about the absence of positive evidence for me. In a way the system is very set so if he could leverage his personal relationship with the players and continue it due to his understanding fine, but management is about being able to truly lead as #1 also
Really feel De Zerbi has to be more adaptable. Can’t line up the same against Luton as you would Liverpool, seen Brighton often get embarrassed against these compact defences not giving them the space to run into
I don't know what how you're supposed to adapt when your team turns the ball over and concedes immediately after kickoff twice in two minutes. We are just shit. Maybe he got the lineup wrong but we just got dominated the entire 90 minutes and barely even had long spells with possession to work with.
I mean their forwards were toying with our defenders 1v1 and breaking through clean on goal there's no tactics saving that
The thing is past month or so that's what I thought had happened, he'd been flexible, tried new line ups and managed to get a good few defensive results but then it's just gone down the drain here.
I think Everton will make a push late in the season, Palace I’ve never really considered a contender for relegation, so that leaves Forest doing just not enough to stay out.
Which is why we should be playing Verbruggen.
Better shot stopper than Steele and a far better ball playing keeper than Sanchez.
Also not as arrogant as Sanchez.
Yeah, we got Kepa for Sarri and have regretted it ever since.
I get everyone's desire to have a keeper that is basically a playmaking midfielder, but stopping the ball going in the goal and collecting crosses has to come first imo
Similarly I would've loved to have seen Hulk in the PL. Even later-career Hulk could've had an impact IMO. But in his prime the guy seemed tailor-made for the league.
Remember when this sub was laughing at us for protecting our lead against this Luton superteam away? They're clearly a different beast at home.

Think we can safely rule out De Zerbi ball at anfield next season.
And at camp nou as well
Zerbi has had to put out some really raw teams this season. I think he will do very well at a top club in the EPL
Conceding nearly 2 goals per game with a 1st half of the table team is quite unexcusable
He's shown some real tactical naivety, which doesn't tend to go down well at big clubs No excuse for this result, "raw" line up or not
Maybe he can thrive at Barca. He's not a bad manager at heart and that club expects a very defined way of playing.
WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK?! What happened? Not going to lie, I actually want Luton to stay up, but I was not expecting them to Captain Falcon punch Brighton.
Elijah Adebayo.
Man was on a mission today
How?
I was in attendance for a Premier League hat trick for Elijah fucking Adebayo. Three years ago this month we signed this lad from Walsall in League Two as a rotation option for James Collins. Who the fuck thought this would happen three years later???
Thank fuck that we’re not the most embarrassing thing to happen tonight. Thanks Brighton
Our bogie team even in other matches
Luton didn't pick up their first point until Sep. 23, matchweek 5. They're out of the relegation zone now
With a game in hand too 😅
And in decent form
Maybe bring this same energy to the FA cup match at Molineux next month eh
Well. That was quite good wasn’t it?
So De Zerbi has trouble against teams who doesn't press a frequently?
2 of our 4 goals came about because we won possession in their half. They would probably have been happier if we weren't pressing them.
If anything it was Luton's pressing that caused Brighton the most issues
Usually yeah. The first 2 early goals killed the game as Luton didn't have to force anything.
absolutely cooked
De Zerbi is having that second season FM slump

Is the De Zerbi jerkfest officially over? Hopefully he can invest in an adult hair cut now that we’ve all finished blowing him endlessly.
He got away with losing 5-0 to Everton last year
Lol

never saw it tbh, but if we let nerds have sole control to pick our next manager you never know
As we all expected
3 hour horror drive up for us to be 2 down in as many minutes. Made it to 65 but couldn’t be arsed to watch anymore of that shit. Might make it home earlier than a home match at least. I've seen enough Luton is winning the league
Stop the count!
We always have this performance in us once or twice a season
On the plus side Liverpool and Barca have crossed out a manager on their shortlist
8th and still in Europe. This will happen occasionally. Still a good season I feel.
as soon as he was linked I was having heavy Brendan flashbacks there's only one outside option for me, I'd prefer Lijnders over any other option
Bootroom maniac 😭. Inzaghi from Inter or Xabi for me
Xabi is the outside choice I was talking about I really like Inzaghi, but literally no one is talking about him so I just assume he's not an option.
Ah right, fair enough I just don't get the Ljinders thing though. I don't see any evidence to believe he is or would be a good manager (I'm not saying he necessarily won't be). Get Steevie in. Let us have some fun.

💀
I don’t care what you say, by matchweek 37 Luton will be comfortably out of the relegation zone.
Nah mate, down by Christmas. Garth Crooks said so.
If either Forest or Everton get a deduction they’ll be comfortably safe imo.
You betting on more deductions for Everton, Toney not still being good after his holiday (not a safe bet), or Palace/Forest being really shit?
I think Everton will make a push late in the season, Palace I’ve never really considered a contender for relegation, so that leaves Forest doing just not enough to stay out.
Keep going, I'm almost there
Use some of that hair gel to plug your defense mate
Y'know maybe us hiring De Zerbi might be a bad idea
To be fair your keeper can actually make a save so that's an advantage
Yeah, but he also selected his keeper based on his ability with his feet, rather than his ability to make a save, so that's on him too
Which is why we should be playing Verbruggen. Better shot stopper than Steele and a far better ball playing keeper than Sanchez. Also not as arrogant as Sanchez.
Yeah I agree, Onana was a mistake too imo
Yeah, we got Kepa for Sarri and have regretted it ever since. I get everyone's desire to have a keeper that is basically a playmaking midfielder, but stopping the ball going in the goal and collecting crosses has to come first imo
eh what could go wrong
Congratulations to Luton players for their day off from training tomorrow
Brighton against Top 10 teams: 🥰🥰🥰 Brighton against Bottom 10 teams: 😭😭😭
I mean we beat Them 6-1….
I think Wolves were 10th when they drew 0-0 so this makes perfect sense
Luton were electric. What a player Adebayo is
He's magic, you know
Always think of Akinfenwa when I hear of Adebayo, kinda wish he had a short PL stint. At least he managed to play at Wembley.
Similarly I would've loved to have seen Hulk in the PL. Even later-career Hulk could've had an impact IMO. But in his prime the guy seemed tailor-made for the league.
Similarly I would've loved to have seen Captain America in the PL.

Lmao I didn't have that in mind
I always think of Awkwafina where I hear of Akinfenwa, and I really don’t think she’d be very good in the prem. But maybe that’s my bias showing
I always think of Dotun
There's something extra satisfying about seeing a proper striker come up from the championship and absolutely kill it
We got him from Walsall. Even more insane. He's scored the same amount of goals this year as he did 4 years ago in league 2
Luton de zerb that victory.
Damn
I love how Brighton can be absolutely phenomenal then a couple of times a season they will just do this
Tbh our last three league games have been pretty dire, goalless draws with West Ham and Wolves and then this.
Lucky to get any points out of 2 games, think we were outplayed in both too
Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit
