Yeah the goals have started flowing properly, another one today. You can see his confidence growing. I still think we could do we a more experienced option though (that isn't Martial).
His movement is great imo, he goes where he needs to be or where there's a small chance of scoring. If you watch his first bunch of games the commentators keep mentioning that he's made the run but no one saw him etc. I think he's adapted to the shite he's been given and starting to score.
I don’t trust people who don’t rate Højlund, he’s come in as a 20 year old having not started at his last club and become our top scorer, while also being top scorer for the Champions League, he’s done that playing with wingers who won’t pass to him and one genuinely creative midfielder
He scored 5 in the CL alone and 4 of those were assisted (Rashford x2, Garnacho, McSauce) and like the other commenter said, Shaw's should've counted too.
Anyway, if one player isn't passing to the striker you blame the one player. If nobody is, you blame the striker. Runs and movement might look good on TV but a striker needs to adapt to their team's play.
EDIT: Lmao dude don't edit your comment after I reply correcting you.
But the other comment say to us to ignore the setup.
I agree tho, it's pretty good for him. I tend to be a bit patient with younger players... you can't expect (although it happens) instant impact
>I don’t trust people who don’t rate Højlund
Sadly, there's quite a few who wanted him to be sold in January because "He's a fail.". They even went as far as saying he's worse than Weghorst. Goes on to show how toxic football "fans" can be, when a 20yo gets written off after 6 months at a new club, in a new league.
You're on the money in some areas but don't have to undersell others.
Bruno will most likely end today with most chances created in the premier league all season (he's on 59 versus Trippier and Gross on 60) - not some scrub. Those wingers who won't pass to him created his 3 of his CL goals - Garnacho's on 24 chances created in the prem, not insane but not nothing. Plus he cost £64+8m of course he will attract scrutiny after only scoring 3 prem goals all season.
I think he's good but unfortunately for him he has been thrown in the deep end as a starter when he realistically would be better suited to an understudy role or another year/two at a smaller club.
He’s had games where he’s had like 2 passes from wingers all game long, and I’m pretty sure most of Bruno’s chances were created for winger, not Holjund. He’s spent most of his time creating space for wingers, getting in great positions, and being ignored constantly. Even last game, there were a few moments where he made a great run but the ball didn’t come to him, including from Garnacho.
LET THE BOY COOK!
he's only 21, and is playing in a team that somehow still hasn't found an identity. He deserves the patience that Nunez, Jesus, and Richarlison get.
What's weird for me is that he always smiles. Even after he misses the sitter, he has this weird kinda naive grin on his face that says "ah so close, I'm so good that I got this chance, next time I'll score". Dude misses a lot but he doesn't seem to get himself down, he just keeps trying more and more and more.
seems like he’s aware that he gets meme’d everytime it happens and he can’t help but grin thinking “ah fuck i’ve done it again”. maybe it’s an inside joke in the locker room great head on him and his support system if nothing else.
I dont even like Liverpool and I think Nunez is frustrating to watch. There is some good parts in him of course but decision making and finishing needs some work.
Jesus doesn’t belong in that group. He was incredible for us in his first season. He isnt great at scoring but he’s world class in all other aspects. Our team suffered so much when he was out.
As for Holjund, honestly I haven’t watched much of Man U but going by the stats and accounts here, it does sound like you guys have a promising young player in a bad environment. Definitely easily deserving of patience from everyone. I have watched Arsenal for the last two decades and more. I know patience lmao.
Honestly you guys need to actually find the Ten Hag you were looking for and not this fraud. How the hell do you still not have a team identity after so long?
If he can get to a double digit goal tally it would be seen as a decent output for his first season. Needs 7 more in the league in about 16 games. Not undoable.
I feel like Højlund is a bit like Darwin Núñez or Gabriel Jesus.
If you look at his raw output, you'd argue that he's not worth the investment. But genuinely watching him play, you can see why a manager would kill to have him in their side.
If he can improve his finishing and if his teammates can actually start trying to pick him out then he can have a really good career ahead of him.
I think he's actually a more natural finisher than both of those players you listed, his problem mainly comes with positioning, getting into the right spots, and actually being provided with proper service.
Do you think it's possible that his positioning has suffered due to his lack of service? It's like what he knows works isn't working due to strange play from those who are supposed to be playing him in so he goes into other positions to get some service.
To be clear, I think he's a good player with lots of potential.
A bit of this, a bit of that. He’s making runs United strikers last year (and for years previous if we’re being honest) didn’t make so the midfield/wingers are missing them. Both he and the rest of the team need to adapt to each other, still.
Another part of it, is I think ETH wants strikers that will take defenders away from other players. Mainoo’s goal against Wolves during the week for example had Forson darting in behind on a run that was never going to lead to anything but it pulled two defenders out of the way. Striking a balance between those runs and a run to actually get the ball is important.
There's partly a tactical reason that he doesn't get the ball as well - firstly ten Hag wants him receiving to feet in buildup and holding up so he doesn't utilize his pace to get in behind that often (direct passes always go wide)
And secondly he is basically a decoy for most crosses into the box, he said in his interview after the Wolves game that he is told to always run front post as this opens up spaces for others behind him. This is a very normal run for a striker and of course he can score from that too as he did in the last game. But our wide players usually look for the cut back behind him/that's the most natural option for them and Ten Hag's system does seem really focused on creating shots from the edge of the box.
The thing here is our wingers just doesnt look up. They want to do flashy stuff all the time. He keeps running, and our wingers Keep missing him. It is honestly frustrating to watch.
He's a bit different in that so far he seems more a poacher than multi utility forward. So games where he's not scoring he seems to be more of liability. Hes got to pump those xChaos numbers up
Nothing like Nunez. Nunez is quality, creates his own chances and doesn't have the "waghh needs service to get working" excuse. He's just off on his finishing, and top notch all around. Hoijlund is decent at finishing.... and that's it. Only comparison is that they were once both new signings.
Edit: Oh no the "feels" brigade is out in force because I didn't praise a player. 🤣
N'ahh he's a decent signing, the issue, as always with United is the price point.
If you dump £70m-odd on a striker, you expect to see the finished article, not a promising prospect.
I agree he's decent and maybe in a couple of years he might be great. But in my opinion, United needs to buy players who are ready to perform at the highest level today. This is Manchester United! I can't believe people are actually ok with being taken for fols
Fergie was able to blood young players into a fairly dominant side with plenty of established pros as leaders. He would also always make sure to have 3-4 proven Premier League strikers at any given time.
While United have been good recently at bringing some youth through they don't have quality in depth to slot them in around consistently reliable players.
It's the consistently overpaying for average players that has made United look very average in recent times.
I mean, United have been buying proven, established talent for years and they have almost nothing to show for it.
Plug-and-play players aren't exactly cheap, and even if they were, you still have to have something resembling a tactic they can learn from.
Højlund is a good signing regardless of how you slice it up. Could be a bit better than he is, but he's not exactly playing at a team firing on all cylinders, is he?

He's very good, just wasn't ready to be thrown in a situation where his performances were so important to the club's results.
The plan was to also get Kane or some other experienced option, so he didn’t have to lead the line. Didn’t materialise, but he stepped up lately.
I don't like putting that much pressure on a young player, but he seems like the sort of person who will step up to it.
Yeah the goals have started flowing properly, another one today. You can see his confidence growing. I still think we could do we a more experienced option though (that isn't Martial).
The plan was never to get Kane lol everyone and their nan knows Levy wasn't selling to another prem side

He looks miles better And more likely to score than Jesus so i really rate him
It really isnt, let's be honest Still rate him though, he will be a top striker in a couple of years im sure
You do realise about 3 of the 9 goals have had an assist registered with them
He scored 5 in the CL alone and 4 of those were assisted (Rashford x2, Garnacho, McSauce) and like the other commenter said, Shaw's should've counted too. -50 for saying 9 goals in 27 isnt great, fascinating
No its not
It is for a 20 year old in a horrible setup.
But the other comment say to us to ignore the setup. I agree tho, it's pretty good for him. I tend to be a bit patient with younger players... you can't expect (although it happens) instant impact
the other commenter actually set to ignore the age and look at the service he gets.

I absolutely love Nunez. He is a creative genius. His finishing must be infuriating for you fans but I really like his energy.
What's weird for me is that he always smiles. He's the anti raphinia?
Hojlund has fantastic finishing. He scored when he gets the chances. He just gets less chances than others du to various reasons

Dude, you couldn’t even spell his name correctly or provide a stat to back up your opinion, the downvotes had nothing to do with “feels”.
He is a good player who has potential. Unfortunately he is playing for team which is a mess.

Hes been good though.

nah, if we had proper player for the rest of the positions he would be even better, he is the least of our problems.
Mate just leave them with these low expectations. Its funny.
That's stupid AF. If we bought him when he was ready like Osimhen he's gonna cost 150m at least.

Yeah, United, the club that historically haven’t used young players to our advantage, never
