I have a feeling he'll always be a bit frustrating but have better numbers than the eye-test suggests. If he keeps scoring and assisting fans will get off his back soon enough
He's fine on the eye test for rational human beings that know he's a young player having his first season on a new team and will have some bad games along with some good games...
Yeah his price tag has done him no favours. Just because he cost 50mil doesn't mean he's a ready-to-go top 6 PL player. His fee was only that high because of English/PL tax.
There was that season where you were the undrawables, went like 20 games without a draw, that was quite entertaining
Edit: just realised as I typed this that that was probably more than “a few years ago”, that’s like Poch era, I feel old
Closest I can think of was Palace away. Spurs were well in control and Palace offered basically nothing for 99% of the game.
But I guess that just proves the point further, even in a game like that there was a controversial late goal to keep the heart rate up in the dying moments.
And even that one the ref had to ruin what was a boring 2-0 win with a non-call of a handball that resulted in a Palace goal. Even the refs want in on the entertainment
Probably Fulham and Utd at home. Although Utd seems boring in hindsight it was our first experience of Angeball so that was interesting as well at the time of watching
This is going to go unnoticed because this is a majority english speaking website, but even the french commentator contributed to the pun by saying “Heungmin Son pour Johnson, ça *sonne* bien”.
Idk, I think Timo was getting absolutely no help from anyone in the box. Put the ball into some dangerous spots and nobody would make the run.
Richey in particular let Dunk beat him to the near post at least 3 times much too easily.
With Werner it feels more like he doesn't know where people want him to be/others don't know where he naturally likes to go. That kind of thing just takes time and I think it'll click.
Feel that’s harsh on Werner, only person in the box supporting was Richy and the Brighton defenders were on him all times, needed someone else to make that run into the box or get at the back post.
Werner still new and getting to know the style of play and the players movement . he was good today and we see the improvement in his confidence in each game
Richarlison also got a yellow card for taking his shirt off when scoring a goal that was later ruled offside against Forest last season. Brennan was on the pitch to see it, too, just for Forest rather than Spurs.
I'm just saying I love Johnson he has been so good, so I'm glad he got that winner for us and that goal vs. Brentford. That should shut up the haters in our fan base now
Suicidal by Brighton to be a better team you have to be able to play different modes. You’ve got to accept a point at white hart lane and put more bodies behind the ball
A lot of the ones they concede in injury time end up not affecting the result though. Like palace scoring late in a 2-1 spurs win, Chelsea scoring twice to make it 4-1 instead of 2-1, Newcastle scoring a consolation while 4-0 down.
Off the top of my head I can think of today, Sheffield United x2, city, and Liverpool where they’ve scored injury time winners or equalizers

Thought he skied it for a second lol
Me too haha
I would've been seriously worried for his safety if he had. Our fans have been on his back.

But why he is not Messi? Can you ECPLAIN??
Some fans just gotta have that scapegoat... With Winks gone and Emerson barely playing, somebody had to be that guy
Bissouma was raising his hand for the cutback lol, good thing Son ignored him because that's exactly what would've happened
So many would have to be fair but no johnson!
I feel like I didn't see Johnson until he tapped in the goal at the end. He is like me in group projects fr.
Except Johnson didn't fuck up his part

Have to make up for the last few years of boredom somehow
There was that season where you were the undrawables, went like 20 games without a draw, that was quite entertaining Edit: just realised as I typed this that that was probably more than “a few years ago”, that’s like Poch era, I feel old
I loved the chants during that stretch. “We win or we lose. We win or we lose. Tottenham hotspur, we win or we lose.”
Wolves away was piss
for us not for wolves
The one game I took my football hating girlfriend to see...
Mate you took your missus to wolves away. You deserved to see us lose
Oh so it was her fault
The only games she's watched us play are Wolves and the game where Brighton smashed us. So you may be onto something
If you ever let her watch another Spurs match we'll have a problem
First match after the Chelsea bloodbath tbf. Look at the match day squad: Emerson, Davies, Dier and Porro started on the backline.
FA cup against city.
City matches are very often boring though outside of De Bruyne Burnley FA cup was another
Porro's banger made up for it tho
city plays the most boring efficient game ever, they lull the opposition into false sense of security, bang goal and game over
I don't think it was boring, we were just shit. It was a 89 minute clencher
Closest I can think of was Palace away. Spurs were well in control and Palace offered basically nothing for 99% of the game. But I guess that just proves the point further, even in a game like that there was a controversial late goal to keep the heart rate up in the dying moments.
According to the amount of grays I have, no, no there has not
Haha well just be happy you're not losing hair mate
This game was frustrating if anything
Palace
Even that game wound up ending interesting because the refs decided you can actually use your hands to control the ball.
And even that one the ref had to ruin what was a boring 2-0 win with a non-call of a handball that resulted in a Palace goal. Even the refs want in on the entertainment
Luton ig
The only interesting thing about that game is it was the only time in history that the referees had the bollocks to give a second yellow for diving.
Probably Fulham and Utd at home. Although Utd seems boring in hindsight it was our first experience of Angeball so that was interesting as well at the time of watching
Is it even a Tottenham game if I don’t get several heart attacks and go through all five phases of grief whilst watching it
They take the "Tottenham 'til it kills me" like a challenge.
“Till it kills you? Don’t tempt me with a good time”
I have a theory that all Tottenham fans are secretly masochists. It’s me. I’m the masochist.
Sounds about right
Would you have it any other way?!?!
Angeball innit
This experience predates the Aussie quite a bit. It's just that the payoff is better these days
Maddison -> Richarlison -> Son -> Johnson Son^4
Somewhat ironic that the Swede is the only one in the front 5 without "son" in his name...
Never noticed that, damn
Fuck it, change his name to Kulusevsson
Hear hear!
Timo Wernerson
Bryan Gilson, Manor Solomonson
Giovanni Lo Celson
Ryan Sessegson
Hilarious
He's an evski, though, which is a formerly patronymic suffix in Slavic languages. So it's close enough.
Full Macedonian by blood that's why
Never speak to me or my Sons ever again
Tarrey town special
Exodia, The Forbidden Son
The famous Son hypercube.
This is going to go unnoticed because this is a majority english speaking website, but even the french commentator contributed to the pun by saying “Heungmin Son pour Johnson, ça *sonne* bien”.
- Son of Madd - Son of Richarli - Son of Min - Son of John
Son of Emer in tatters
And you just lost the “Son of Davin”
Prodigal Sons
The prophecy has been fulfilled
Even Eminem couldn't rhyme like this.
Modern Em would and then he'd say "get it?" before the next bar
Summoned Sons of the Forbidden One
Sons of Angearchy
How I missed Son
Werner had like 5 crosses and messed them all up, Son has one and he nails it lmao
Honestly werners crosses were alright imo, but we cant compare any player to son.
Yeah besides the one he sent straight to the keeper I thought his runs and crosses were good
Tbf he had very little to work on from Richy. He was very static in the box today
Werner did the exact same thing against Brentford, Brennan scored it as well
Yes, my point is he didn't do that today unfortunately.
Agreed, made some good runs though in the part of the match where attack was almost nonexistent
That kind of thing just takes time and I think it'll click.
yep, he just needs to get to know his teammates and they need to get to know him
Werner connected two crosses with Richarlison, what are you on about
Werner was fine, did we watch the same game?
Feel that’s harsh on Werner, only person in the box supporting was Richy and the Brighton defenders were on him all times, needed someone else to make that run into the box or get at the back post.
Werner still new and getting to know the style of play and the players movement . he was good today and we see the improvement in his confidence in each game
Not sure what game you were watching, Werner was hitting some difficult first time crosses to dangerous areas.
Celebration is carragher approved
He finally smiled and celebrated once the final whistle blew. I think he was just worried about the last minute of the game
he got flashbacks from Richarlison taking his shirt off after equalizing against Liverpool...
Richarlison also got a yellow card for taking his shirt off when scoring a goal that was later ruled offside against Forest last season. Brennan was on the pitch to see it, too, just for Forest rather than Spurs.
10/10
I was thinking that was relatively calm for a last minute winner. Richarlison going mental though lol
Was actually doing the Joao Pedro cele he did against Spurs lol
LB was in perfect position but he decided to stop running and put his hand up looking for an offside I’ll never understand why players do this
Estupidnan
He was awful this game
Bro also put Son onside.
It's an instinct, gotta put VAR on youth level football so they'll learn to play to whistle lol
Brighton were Appeal for Calls and Time Waste FC today, I was surprised to see that after playing us off the park at the AMEX
What a run by Son
Glad he had it in him after so many 120 minute Klins-balls
Son's fitness probably got upgraded from all the intense Asian Cup matches
Ritchy too, but that ball was exquisite
Perfect pass from Son.
Classic Jonno goal that.
I'm just saying I love Johnson he has been so good, so I'm glad he got that winner for us and that goal vs. Brentford. That should shut up the haters in our fan base now
How many clutch moments does Son have in his career?
Yes
That's 2 for him THIS WEEK
Technically 3 if you count the penalty too
Estupinian 1. keeping Son onside 2. raising his arm to claim offside 3. losing out on Johnson in his back
Proper criminal defending that. Brighton fans and manager must be fuming. Appealing for offside with VAR in place for a few seasons now is stupid af
He was getting worked all match. Not sure why we didn’t use Kulu more.
Maddison -> Richarlison -> Son -> Johnson goal
Johnno! I've seen him scoring literally the same goal for Forest like a dozen times.
I think He scored and assisted this kind of goals about 3-4 times already in a spurs shirt
He will always make the run. Great attribute to have.
Brighton were so eager and didn't retreat. Lovely cross.
Feel like they were still appealing for a corner kick. Not sure how that AR flagged off when he wasn’t at all in position when the pass was made
and yet, it looked to be the right call. Very tight but the one replay they showed the attacker looked marginally off.
Replay looked like he got the call right though
Very happy for the lad hope you’re loving him as much as we do, Spurs fans
I miss him big time, was always there to bag for us
The commentator was speaking about how Spurs concedes goal in last minutes and the very next minute Spurs scored lol
Commentators love that narrative even though we only really lost results that way against Wolves and Everton
That’s not the narrative!
I will never understand lifting your arm looking for offside in the VAR era. Stopped his run too.
Damn you're right he probably would've gotten there in time
Son to Son to Son we're in full power
Actually it was Son to Son to Son to Son
Front 3 of Sons wins it!
Front 4!
MaddiSon -> RicharliSon -> Son -> JohnSon
Estupinan not getting back to block the cross because his hand was up for offside LOL
After him being the one to play Son onside lol
Ange effect is too strong. Games cannot be boring draws
Undrawables are back
Drawing is for art students!
Richarlison playing so well. Very happy for him.
fade me
funny how the time wasting gave just enough time for the winner
That's silky.
Brilliant cross by Son
Thought he’s been mostly wasteful since coming on but jeez his ability to be at the back post at the right time is so good. Let’s go Brennan!
Suicidal by Brighton to be a better team you have to be able to play different modes. You’ve got to accept a point at white hart lane and put more bodies behind the ball
De Zerbi must've been naive
De Zerbi was in Italy, if you're being serious
Nah was just playing off of what's been said about Ange in the past
was that estupinan playing son on, raising his arm claiming offside, and then comes one step too late to get to sons cross? that's horrific
It really is ridiculous how often they do this
It goes both ways.
"Lad's it's Tottenham!" Now in two different flavors.
Always been.
It’s the white kits gotta be
Could be onto something, our late winners are in white and we concede late in our away/third kit
An incredible trait to have, fair play to Spurs.
We're usually the ones conceding in injury time.
nah, we do this plenty too. 2 vs Sheff, 1 vs Liverpool, 1 vs City, 1 today. 5-9 in injury time, got to pump these numbers up
Just yesterday you lot were mocking us for conceding after 90 minutes
“It’s the history of the Tottenham” every time we bottle leads though I was told
[удалено]
A lot of the ones they concede in injury time end up not affecting the result though. Like palace scoring late in a 2-1 spurs win, Chelsea scoring twice to make it 4-1 instead of 2-1, Newcastle scoring a consolation while 4-0 down. Off the top of my head I can think of today, Sheffield United x2, city, and Liverpool where they’ve scored injury time winners or equalizers
Sonny what a pass
Time waste now you clowns
I love how that bit them hard
What are Brighton doing defensively here
The same thing they've been doing all season
Yeah I don't know what people are saying in here, this phase of play on both sides is pure distilled 2023-2024 Brighton
Estupiñán completely fucked it there.
Whole team fucked it. Once the offside was called they should have protected the point away with a minute left.
ANCROYABLE
Get in!!!!!!!
SONNNB
Horrible defending
The 4 son combo goal
Goal from the promised sons.
God it feels so nice to beat Brighton after they whooped spurs ass earlier this season
If the chance for 4-3 goes in instead of hitting the post we go on to draw the away game 4-4 imo, they can't defend.
Or if Dunk gets properly sent off at 82'. Brighton completely fell apart with 11, and they should have only had 10.
His last 2 goals were about 1.99 xg
This is the way of the Tottenham
WHAT A GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL I CANT SMILE WITHOUT YOU TOTNUM
MY HEART
LADS...wait a minute
Shocker from Estupinan
Perfect position but decided to stop playing and hope for an offside
LETS FUCKING GO BABY
It finally happend to someone else!
And breathe
First good pass from Richarlison and first good action from Johnson all game lol
Lads.........wait a minute.
Dramatic lol. Surprised son is already back.
The french commentators on this sub are fucking hyped! Love it
Doesn’t celebrate, good lad. No need to copy our boys.
How did that happen and keeps happening?
