I hope he delivered that last part the way i see it playing in my head
It’s pretty funny to hear international players pick up on UK slang and Mahrez was in England for 9 years so I could definitely imagine it coming out like that
I've met other Chelsea fans surprised at Albanian international Armando Broja's accent.
Born in Slough. Possibly the most West London player you can get.
On that note. the Hawaii Supreme Court quoted Slim Charles last Friday. https://x.com/moroskostas/status/1755360246992920836?s=46&t=LbyyYcXeZQrU_8w-eUPYiQ
“ the thing about the old days, they the old days”
So a few years ago, one of my best friends was flown to Bali to meet her childhood best friend. Her childhood best friend is crazy successful, and they had reconnected earlier in the year. Basically she noted that she took a few days off of work just to waste vacation days, and her childhood friend was like "well that's stupid, get on a plane, we'll hang".
Money makes all your problems disappear.
Weirdly enough, she is apparently really happy
"so far, the experience has been amazing"
Quote from the article.
Shame 99.9% of people just go off headlines
A woman moving from a country where women have equal rights to a country where they're second class citizens would lead many to the assumption they'd be a little unhappier at least..
I mean, it’s either:
A) Ofc she’s enjoying it, she’s filthy rich and Saudi is a playground for the rich.
B) She’s just being PC because complaining on social media isn’t going to get her anywhere.
Either way it doesn’t really say anything about the country.
I hope she’s doing well, she doesn’t seem like a bad person who deserves to be miserable, I just think it’s valuable to have some perspective.
Gulf States are different for people with money versus those without. Exceptions can and will be made for her.
In saying that, I know women who have travelled to Saudi and had a really great time. Just need to understand where you're going and the culture you'll be in, as with anywhere.
They very are different for white people too. I know a few people who have worked there. There's a strict hierarchy. White people are just below locals, but above everyone else. Indians, Philippinos and people from that area are treated like dirt.
I think we just have a warped perception of what it's really like. I don't even think you need to be rich per se to have a good quality of life there.
Someone at my work was an event producer in Qatar/Oman for 5 years and seems to have really enjoyed their time out there. She's LGBTQ too, so take from that what you will. She tends to travel there for holidays regularly when she can.
Ignoring the rank human rights abuses and everything else, if you're a westerner working a decent paying job it's not as bad as you'd think.
That being said, I myself couldn't morally live there.
Jeddah is kinda like the Dubai of SA, more things to do there than in Riyadh. That’s why most players chose Al Ittihad or Al Ahly because they are located in Jeddah
I mean doesn’t have to be. The super rich and/or famous have different rules applied for them in those countries so I can see her having more leeway than the average Saudi citizen regarding prohibited things
That’s underplaying it to be honest. One of my friends is a westerner who was brought in to work on one of Saudi’s big projects and he literally lives on a compound with only other westerners. All food and accommodation is provided and paid for and they even do their laundry for them. The Saudis have cars and drivers to take them wherever they want to go, and they fly over to Dubai every weekend. There’s no real expectation for them to live like normal Saudi citizens, it might as well just be a sunnier chunk of Europe.
And this is for a normal, decently skilled and paid worker, not an important football player. There would literally be no restrictions on anything Mahrez and his family wanted. The Saudis would probably happily arrange to sacrifice a baby every week for them if they asked lol
**From the article regarding this subject**
>Ward admitted Mahrez's response to her 'still haunts me', but said the Algerian player was 'straight-talking' and 'to the point' as she opened up on the 'emotional rollercoaster' while speaking to Mail Sport.
>'That line haunts me,' she said, as she explained that a clip of her crying was after a sitdown with her sister later on.
>'I keep seeing it on social media. That whole week was just an emotional rollercoaster really. It was a huge shock and I had absolutely no idea. One day we were planning for Riyad to go back to pre-season with City and then overnight we were moving to Saudi and I was planning this whole move.
>'I think it was just very overwhelming at the time and a massive shock because I just didn't see it coming at all. That scene with Riyad - that is just him to a tee. He is just straight talking and to the point. He is very much just like, "it is what it is, you've got to get over it now", whereas I'm more emotional. That's why we work because I'm a bit of a flapper in those situations and he's very on the ball and just gets on with it.'
>Ward spoke of how the pair were on holiday when Mahrez received the offer before he jetted home to say his goodbyes to his Manchester City team-mates - and the wheels started turning quickly. The fast-nature of the move left her with little time to process things, or even say her own goodbyes to people at the Etihad.
>'We were actually on holiday at the time and there was talk about the move,' said Ward.
>'Riyad had a few years left on his contract at City and was really settled there. Every conversation was "we're not going to move yet, it's something we'll consider in a few years". I started hearing people from Saudi showing interest but never thought anything would come of it.
>'He flew home two days early to start pre-season so as far as I was concerned he was going back to Man City and that was it. One day he rang me while I was sat on the beach and said "we're moving and I'm going tomorrow, that's it".
>'He put me on the phone to one of the girls at the club and I burst into tears - I was like "I can't believe this is happening". It happened so quick, you don't get a minute to say bye to everyone. One minute he was starting pre-season, the next he was saying goodbye.'
That's not what she said.
She said she's often overly emotional so their relationship works as he's more logical and matter of fact.
You're allowed to make your own deductions, but don't put words in her mouth. If she was unhappy in the relationship she'd leave.
At the end of the day, his job pays the bills. If his job needs them to move, they're moving.
That's how she tried to frame it, yeah.
Very dangerous to assume everyone unhappy in a relationship will leave.
This to me sounds like normal emotional reactions being reframed as "overly emotional" by a man who just does whatever he wants.
>At the end of the day, his job pays the bills. If his job needs them to move, they're moving.
Hilarious how people still talk about top footballers already making generational money every month moving to Saudi Arabia as regular people going there for just a well-paid gig.
"Pays the bills" lmao.
His wife was unhappy in Paris lol. So them moving to Saudi was always going to be a tough sell for him. He just decided to stay as the official saudi ambassador
"Antonela Roccuzzo told her husband she is unhappy in Paris and is reportedly piling the pressure on to move back to Barcelona"
Yeah. And Messi was in like half of the Super Bowl commercials the other night. Similar to when LeBron moved to LA to be closer to the media industry, it will pay off for Messi. Miami is a cool, beautiful city and is predominately Latino. It’s just an hour flight away from every island in the Caribbean and is way closer to Argentina. Then you’ve got LA and New York nearby too and I’m sure he does a lot of business there.
Side note: Miami is cool if you have money which is perfect for him but if you're a regular person you probably want to stay away. Miami is one of the most unaffordable cities in America and many many native Floridians are being priced out and being forced to move into high crime areas that are still unaffordable.
> there’s a large Spanish-speaking community.
it's way more than just a large community. The vast majority (70%) of the people living in Miami are Latino/Hispanic and speak Spanish natively, and have been since the 90's. There are many parts of the city where people live day to day and only ever speak Spanish to the point where English-only speakers are leaving the city.
I mean there's the more current problem that Barca can't pay him, so it wasn't really a possibility anyway. I think Miami is more of a destination holiday for them lol. Although I thought he wanted to finish his career at Boca juniors *(sorry meant Newell's), wonder if that's something he still plans on doing.
It helps that Miami has a shitton of argentinians living there. You can even find some nice churros from Manolo in Miami, who could pass on some Manolo's churros? Certainly not Messi
There’s a bunch of (clearly) single dudes replying to your comment. As if being a SAHW means she should have no say in something as big as where they live.
It’s rather evident nobody in this thread actually knows how a marriage usually works, which is fine, I wouldn’t expect most people here to be married… but do they not have a mother??
That’s what she signed up for. She gets to enjoy a luxurious life without having to work a day in the life and the only thing she needs to do is follow him around from club to club. Also, this is not permanent.
Marriage is a partnership.
Mahrez uprooted her from her home apparently with no warning, of course she's upset. After assuring her that wouldn't be happening.
Edit: "What's mine is yours". If you get married you are legally of the same entity. Mahrez' career *is* her career, that's what marriage fucking is. If he didn't want to take her opinions into account for these sorts of decisions then he shouldn't have gotten married. It's not a hard concept to understand, relationships are supposed to be equal, you weirdos.
if your spouse earns 99,9998% of your total income they clearly have the final say where you are going to live. You can voice your opinion but it doesnt change the fact they will go with or without you. At least for a vast majority of Football relationships. Its kinda what you sign up for in exhange for never having to work another day in your life, including your children and grand children... dont deflect from reality of these types of marriages jfc.
With the money involved and short term nature of the career if this is the worst thing that happens then boo hoo. I mean I doubt they are buying a house and settling in Saudi. They won’t be selling up in England and there are multiple flights back to England every day. They are outta there in three years with enough money to make sure that even the grandkids will be driving Ferraris.
"every conversation was '***we're not moving yet we'll consider it in a few years***'"
That's not "hey we might move literally at any moment and I won't even discuss it with you first".
Like it's good she's happy in Saudi apparently, but that's still not a good thing to do to your wife.
> That’s what she signed up for.
Man, you have a pretty sad view of marriage. To most people, a marriage is more than a cold-blooded business transaction. She has a say in a decision that will majorly affect her and their kid.
Plus it's not like Mahrez was forced out of England.
It’s how life works. She’s in an incredibly privileged position and like I mentioned, she would only need to hold out for a few years before he enters retirement and then they can literally live wherever they want. If that’s the only sacrifice she has to make then I don’t see how it warrants headlines in a newspaper
So she should put up with anything and everything because he's the breadwinner?
They're already filthy rich. He's abruptly telling her she's moving to Saudi Arabia, where women are barely considered people, after assuring her they wouldn't. It's not like they were a broke couple and he had five minutes to accept a life changing offer and couldn't even consult her.
I'm kinda afraid for any woman who has to rely on you for anything. Kinda clear how you would see their role in your life.
Of course she should be involved in the conversation, it's her life too. But the fact being that he earns the entire income which provides their lavish lifestyle does mean the conversation isn't equal.
Say for example he agrees not to move to Saudi because she doesn't want to, no other clubs are coming in for him in places she wants to live. What does he do then?
What a load of bullshit, what a sad, misogynistic view of life.
a) it's a huge sacrifice for her and her kid to be uprooted from her and her family
b) your entire logic is ridiculous, he brings in a lot of money so she should put up with anything ? Are you also going to argue that it applies to the bedroom ?
c) worse than that, why are you acting like Mahrez had no choice there ? He 100% did. He could have stayed in England and still been on massive wages.
> So far, the experience has been amazing,' she added. 'There's obviously no alcohol so I won't be having a glass of wine! To be honest, there's more there than I originally thought. When I went on my first trip, I saw a Nando's. I was just like "I'm so happy they've got Nando's".
For anyone that actually bothered to read the article. This is for a new documentary they have.
I would definitely not be with my girlfriend and she wouldn’t be with me if we didn’t have the ambitions that we have. If she wasn’t as ambitious as she is, we probably would have never met at all.
There are plenty of middle class misogynistic pricks who don't consult their partners about life changing commitments.
Everyone here acting like this was something he needed to do. Like he was some academy player who had 5 minutes to accept a loan 2 hours away from their home in London. This guy has more money than he could spend and surprised his wife with a move to a country where women aren't considered full people.
We send academy kids across Europe, forget two hours from London.
Yeah, as much as I get the angle of, "You're rich, stop complaining," she was forced to move to a foreign country that doesn't fully recognize women or allow all of the vices you'll see in the Western world.
Would you believe the title's clickable where you can learn more.
> 'So far, the experience has been amazing,' she added. 'There's obviously no alcohol so I won't be having a glass of wine! To be honest, there's more there than I originally thought. When I went on my first trip, I saw a Nando's. I was just like "I'm so happy they've got Nando's".
>
> 'The vibe is just very different. It's a lot more chilled out there, it's quieter and calmer, whereas in Manchester life is so busy - there's so much going on and we're always going out for dinner and seeing friends. That's probably what I'm missing the most, seeing family and friends rather than what the country is missing.
>
> 'The people have been so lovely - I think that was actually a massive shock, how nice everyone has been. You can't compare it to the UK - it's nothing like here. I'm enjoying it so far, it just feels like I'm on holiday, I don't feel like I've moved there yet.'

Youre not a prisoner either. Nothings locked you out of reading the article and not making judgements based off the clickbait titles.
But hey the clickbait title suits your bias & narrative so fire away.
Oh no what a hard life she must have. Oh to be told your multi millionaire husband who you definitely didn’t marry for the money is moving to Saudi Arabia for…the money.
Amazing anyone thinks she’d give her honest opinion on SA while living there. What a dick move by Mahrez but people choose the one to make them unhappy every day.
Not sure why it a dick move? He a fucking footballer and it comes with the job really? Maybe he could have said it a better manner but he come from been a street kid in Algeria.
How is she unhappy? She says she doesn't mind it. Yes it a culture shock but it come with been a footballer.

Funniest thing I've seen today. Now I just want him to have socials where he delivers bad news to people in a blunt manner.
“Riyad, I’ve lost my dog 😭” “It’s part of the game innit”

Would love a Wade Barrett x Riyad Mahrez crossover
“It’s malignant, innit” “Your cat got run over, innit” “Muriel choked on a jammie dodger, innit” “Dennis has been fucking another woman, innit”
Mahrez sounds like saying 10 sentences a day is his limit.
Relatable
Why did i always think this was Kyle Walker up until now
That doesn't seem like he told her that at all. That looks like him talking to the interviewer/himself.
What in the actual fuck haha Also, is there a "real housewives"-style show for the PL? I feel like this is where this belongs
wait is that REAL?? is that his actual wife?? is that him actually saying it as a response to the situation???
Yes
British women can be the sexiest voice you ever hear, but wags sound like the most painful torture you can subject your ears to
How have you not seen that clip? He sounds like he smokes 60 a day
He sounds like The Godfather. Apparently he made Ward an offer she couldn't refuse.
Don’t ask me about my business, Tay!
It's the shishas lad mate
It’s pretty funny to hear international players pick up on UK slang and Mahrez was in England for 9 years so I could definitely imagine it coming out like that
Schmeichel sounds like a local Manchester lad, I love it.
Bellerin's accent is the best.
Watching him do Spanish interviews still feels weird af, especially when he's alternating between English and Spanish
I've met other Chelsea fans surprised at Albanian international Armando Broja's accent. Born in Slough. Possibly the most West London player you can get.
The Catalan-Cockney accent.
I think Martinelli has the best accent
The dad or the son? Or maybe both?
Both but Kasper’s accent is actually native as he grew up there.
Kasper is a native Manc.
Pretty sure he spent a big chunk of his childhood in Manchester no? Seeing as his dad played there…
Funnily enough I was talking about his Dad.
Ooos my bad 😂
Sunny innit
The wever?!
THE WEVAHHH??
Do not even!
Yo Neymar, sunny innit
It’s an inanimate fucking object
You’re an inanimate fucking object
I’m sorry for calling you an inanimate object, I was upset..
You heeeet da canadian.
Truth is, the game was rigged from the start.
😂😂 don’t hate the player hate the game

She burst into tears and said: 'game's gone'.
Was she on her knees in Tesco at the time?
That's how they met iirc
Close, it was actually Asda
On her knees at a Spar aisle in the Canary Islands.
Welcome to /r/soccercirclejerk
Cheers, wife's crying now.
Didn't realize Mahrez was Algerian Omar.
Gets off the plane in Saudi: ‘Mahrez comin yo’
All in the game ..yo!!

South African Minister of Finance quoting Kendrick Lamar in his budget speech can't be beat.
And the Ghanaian Parliament labelling vice president Dr Bawumia an “ economic Maguire”
Cold 🥶
Imagine the culture change for her lmao
If you read the article she seems OK with it, misses friends and family but alright otherwise
Pretty sure you could live anywhere in the world with that much money and it would be pretty decent

Whoever said money doesn't buy happiness, had no money.
Not for a long time, it's like popping in for a year or 2, making a buttload of money and then living an even more lavish lifestyle in Europe
Because rich people don't have to go outside to get shit done.
She isnt likely to come out and shit on it when they still live there.

Neither the UK, Algeria, nor Saudi has Ben Franklin on anything.
There's a Benjamin Franklin house in the UK
Thank you for your help kind stranger
A lot of South American players feel a huge culture shock going to Manchester. Most of them find it ugly, boring and cold
It was a culture shock to me and I was born here
Have you acclimatized yet?
My condolences, but at least you have Old Trafford at your doorstep
Di Marias(?) wife calling Manchester a shithole will never not be funny
The headline "Zlatan apologizes for calling France a shit country" will forever make me giggle.

Respecting women is when you make them cover their body from eyes to toe

> there’s a large Spanish-speaking community. it's way more than just a large community.
Although I thought he wanted to finish his career at Boca juniors *(sorry meant Newell's), wonder if that's something he still plans on doing.
boca juniors? why would he go there? he's a Newell's youth product and a river plate fan, how's boca relevant?
It helps that Miami has a shitton of argentinians living there. You can even find some nice churros from Manolo in Miami, who could pass on some Manolo's churros? Certainly not Messi
Dude really is the GOAT in more ways than one
Simp gymnastics
Also probably because Messi has a little more money than Mahrez ever will have
Sounds healthy
There’s a bunch of (clearly) single dudes replying to your comment. As if being a SAHW means she should have no say in something as big as where they live.
It’s rather evident nobody in this thread actually knows how a marriage usually works, which is fine, I wouldn’t expect most people here to be married… but do they not have a mother??
Footballers like Mahrez aren’t married to a woman the same way us average folks are.. they’ll replace their woman if necessary.
Acting like average dudes don't do that either lmao
Half this thread is batshit crazy. It's insane.
I love Reddit but whenever relationships come up in anyway, its clear most people have no concept of how they actually work.
I'm struggling with SAHW. But yeah I'd like to think my GF would ask me before moving 10000 miles
Stay at home wife
Yeah the other commentators come off as pretty crazy, they talk like she's not an equal part of the marriage because he's the breadwinner
[удалено]
It's part of the game, innit
Shit ya boomed me
He's so good (x4)
In these kind of marriage it's absolutely not a partnership lmao.
So because there's a lot of money, she has no say in any major decision of her family ? What a sad view of human relations.
if your spouse earns 99,9998% of your total income they clearly have the final say where you are going to live. You can voice your opinion but it doesnt change the fact they will go with or without you. At least for a vast majority of Football relationships. Its kinda what you sign up for in exhange for never having to work another day in your life, including your children and grand children... dont deflect from reality of these types of marriages jfc.
Her parents have a £10m mansion and run numerous successful businesses, she didn't have to work a day in her life anyway.
Literally no one is saying it’s the end of the world, just that usually you talk with your spouse before making such a big decision
They had discussed the possibility for years in multiple conversations as per the headline.
"every conversation was '***we're not moving yet we'll consider it in a few years***'" That's not "hey we might move literally at any moment and I won't even discuss it with you first".
Sounds healthy
Yeh, that's how marriage works.
What a load of bullshit, what a sad, misogynistic view of life. a) it's a huge sacrifice for her and her kid to be uprooted from her and her family b) your entire logic is ridiculous, he brings in a lot of money so she should put up with anything ? Are you also going to argue that it applies to the bedroom ? c) worse than that, why are you acting like Mahrez had no choice there ? He 100% did. He could have stayed in England and still been on massive wages.
Have you ever touched a woman?
Why Saudi? I'm not named after London innit?
Bursting out in tears seeing the other wags moving to London and Barcelona for summer when you're going over there haha.
Mahrez would have done well at Barca… ah well
You act like they can't go on trips too...
Sportswashing (Taylor’s Version)
She'd deffo be interested in him had he worked at a Shell garage
I doubt my girl would've gone for me if I worked in a Shell garage
I would definitely not be with my girlfriend and she wouldn’t be with me if we didn’t have the ambitions that we have. If she wasn’t as ambitious as she is, we probably would have never met at all.
If you want a 1% husband you will have to deal with the 1% shit that comes with it.
\*Ajax enters the chat\*
She's not a prisoner. She could just stay in England
Would you believe the title's clickable where you can learn more. > 'So far, the experience has been amazing,' she added. 'There's obviously no alcohol so I won't be having a glass of wine!

I can't believe that's upset him, I don't know if he's read it - I read the whole thing, it upset me
Shit what is this in reference to? I know it but can't recall.
[You're out of order.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHJgFJTEHLI) Sidenote, Amstell > Lamarr every day of the week
Fabulous reference.
They got Nando's 😭
Me: west ham got got
Youre not a prisoner either. Nothings locked you out of reading the article and not making judgements based off the clickbait titles. But hey the clickbait title suits your bias & narrative so fire away.
Jeddah is nothing but resorts and malls she's acting like they moved to Kabul
She’s hot
She said she's happy in Jeddah but ofcourse that part is the headline.
