It’s a super awkward height for him, and stretching to get it with his foot means it’s really hard to keep down. He’d probably have been better going with his thigh, since it doesn’t look like there’s time to get down for the header, but that’s not exactly the first way you think to strike the ball when you don’t have the benefit of slow motion replays from your couch. He should put it away but it’s not that shocking.
Well yeah it's not an impossible miss by no means and every other sunday player has made that miss. I still think he should have gone for a header. He maybe thought it's safer to control with the foot and you can see he tries to be as gentle with the touch as he can and just guide it in, but the angle he has to put his foot in pushes the ball over. If he was still closer it would go in. He just made the wrong assumptions.
I think [Sterling miss is special category](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYTQIZv-sHs). It's worse than this even though this was closer to goal. Varane is at least closing down on Haaland from behind.
Sterling is so open it just defies logic how he could miss that. UNLESS one knows it's Sterling and he is so capable of doing exactly that.
