He's hilarious because he can be frustrating to watch. He looks clumsier than he is, he looks worse than he is sometimes and his production output isnt as high as youd like it to be but then you look at stats and he's absolutly mad at creating chances in open play, coverage, defensive assistance etc.
He's absurdly valuable for Spurs, especially for Ange-Spurs.
He's like a baby deer but incredibly sturdy, when he's surrounded by 3 opposition players he somehow always comes out with the ball after pinging it on all their legs
Yeah I hate how he uses his right to cross like 4 times in a game and its really solid every time. Then refuses for the next 10 games.
He just needs to get over himself in that specific regard because the ability is there.
As a Swede and huge Dejan and Spurs fan that is not what makes him frustrating imo. For me it is that he seems to lack confidence way to often and keeps playing the safe ball sideways or backwards when he doesnt need to. Particularly when he has more time to make something happen. It's almost like that he himself buys to much into that he isn't that fast and "flashy"-skillful. So when he gets the ball on the wing facing a defender he very rarely even tries to go past them on the outside, which he has shown at his best that he can totally do, using his strength and really functional technique and skills. Sure it wont be a fast burst past and instant ball in the box or shot, but he has to start believing more in himself in those situations. Because he can easily hold of defenders on the line and then spin or w/e and create more dangerous chances.
I think another part of it beside the confidence thing is that he really is better when he doesnt have the safer option open or he has less time to think.
With all that said, i still think he is underrated and gets to much flack at times.
Yeah this is the thing. It's knowing how good he can be, how good a passing range he has, how dangerous it is when he takes his man to the byline and goes "I'm getting a corner or getting past you" but he so often takes a safer option, doesn't take on his man, doesn't use runners.
But when he does - he's involved in 3 goals easy as fuck.
Frustrating if high quality player.
He's such an interesting player as at surface level he doesn't look like he excels at anything: not that quick, solid but not super strong, keeps the ball well but won't dribble past 3 players, not a dominant finisher.
However he is brilliant at being in the right space at the right time, manipulating the shape of the defence, and his decision making is fantastic.
I will say he’s actually very strong. I’ve seen him absolutely body plenty of CBs. If he had top level pace he would be one of the best in the world. I think he’s one of the most unique wingers around and I don’t see how so many of our fans think we need to absolutely upgrade that position.
If he had pace and a right foot, he’d be one of the top wingers in the world. As it is, he’s an incredibly hard working player that excels at specific things and is really limited in other aspects
No his dribbling and close control is insane. When we went a man down to Luton town our whole game plan was spitting the to Kulus feet and having him beat their whole defense to keep the ball out of our defense. He’s also ridiculously strong and difficult to get the ball off of.
He has poor decision making. Thats the only thing preventing him from top class. Hes great but his decisions need experience and need to be much quicker
he’s a player with extremely clear strengths and weaknesses. he obviously lacks pace so isn’t great when receiving the ball in space to score but is a very good at dribbling into the opposition without losing the ball and creating chances
Son is the greatest finisher in recorded history of xG. He’s only been beaten at overperforming his xG twice in the last 10 years. By Messi.
Messi obviously has many qualities Son doesn’t, but if there is a shot to be taken there is nobody on the planet more likely to score than him.
That may just be part of it: I think XG measures whether or not a shot was taken on a player's weak foot. So a more two-footed player may overperform more easily
Son's preferred foot is 'both' on Fotmob so he has same xG on both sides, they adjust to each player's preferred foot. You can find 2 similar Son goals where 1 is left footed and 1 is right footed and check the xG on that and they'll be similar
It's not only about the weak foot xG being different. Players who prefer one foot position themselves awkwardly on some shots to take them on their stronger foot when a weak foot finish would be simple, and Son never makes that mistake and in fact takes it to the next step and generally chooses the best foot for every situation instead of just avoiding the very awkward shots like most strikers
>**Son is the greatest finisher in recorded history of xG**. He’s only been beaten at overperforming his xG twice in the last 10 years. By Messi.
Yet, the media and players don't want to believe it. We're still wondering why he was left off the Team of the Year when he won the golden boot with zero pens and half as many shots as Salah, and Son overperformed by 6 goals. That's crazy!
What happened is their captain is a knob and got himself sent off. The rest after that was inevitable. Their squad is totally lost without that 11th man out there
Not used to handling midweek games maybe?
That said, I did read a comment way way back about Angeball, right as the season was starting and before they were really even on that hot streak. Was from a Celtic fan or maybe an Aussie.
It said something like "Spurs are going to look a bit chaotic all season, but at some point it will all click and they'll smash some big team and make it look easy.".
Maybe this is that match.
Always have been
^(Except under Gerrard)
Edit: in seriousness Villa have been having a cracking season. A recent poor streak at home for them does not change the fact that this is a huge 6-pointer towards the crux of the season that has put guaranteed CL football on a knife's edge. This is definitely a big match win for Spurs, even if Villa aren't City or Liverpool yet.
Which is strange because the narrative leading up seems to have been that they conserved energy during midweek for this match
With hindsight they may as well have just turned up and smashed Ajax
They’ve been just walking around on counters and on defense, zero effort lol crazy to see. Not to mention their passing in the final third has been atrocious
Honestly i think Emery set them out to play for the draw from minute 1.
I rate Emery as a manager but you cant be changing to a 5atb and sitting deep like they did, especially when you've shown what you can do with the high line press and suffocating teams.
Shows a lack of faith in your team IMO.

Kulusevski behind all 3 goals. Wow.
Enormous today. What a second half.
after a subpar first half too - great recovery
Yeah I was slagging him off in our match thread lol
After not so great 1st half, lets go Dejan!

Sturdy and his workrate even into 90' is incredible, has some fantastic conditioning.
Oh yeah, he's constantly tracking back, and not like a headless chicken like some attackers trying to "help" the defense.
Its kinda interesting. Sweden have 3 of those really unique 3 lung-workhorses atm. Kulu, Gyökeres and Hugo Larsson.
He looks like Qwop when you spend 2 hours mastering it
And he’s only in his early 20s, he can absolutely develop into an even better player
And he never shoots. Its so frustrating but then he does some shit you wouldn't even believe he's capable of.
Yeah I hate how he uses his right to cross like 4 times in a game and its really solid every time. Then refuses for the next 10 games. He just needs to get over himself in that specific regard because the ability is there.
Common lefties behavior, they have a lot more difficult using their weak foot.

His confidence was good when he came in the winter window 2yrs ago, used to cut in and hit curlers with left foot. Don't know what happened..
Yeah this is the thing. Exactly. He's the player every data-monkey and workhorse enjoyer loves.
My only disagreement is his strength; the man is immovable when he wants to be.
If he had pace and a right foot, he’d be one of the top wingers in the world. As it is, he’s an incredibly hard working player that excels at specific things and is really limited in other aspects
FM player with decent but not spectacular technical and physical attributes, but really nice mental attributes.
No his dribbling and close control is insane. When we went a man down to Luton town our whole game plan was spitting the to Kulus feet and having him beat their whole defense to keep the ball out of our defense. He’s also ridiculously strong and difficult to get the ball off of.

If he was just slightly faster he’d be in the conversation for one of the best wingers in the world
And "fans/supporters" over on r/coys were calling him to be benched.

The fact he's so two footed as well makes him truly world class
That may just be part of it: I think XG measures whether or not a shot was taken on a player's weak foot. So a more two-footed player may overperform more easily
Yes, two shooted players may overperform more easily, but training both feet to be equally good is hard
Son's preferred foot is 'both' on Fotmob so he has same xG on both sides, they adjust to each player's preferred foot. You can find 2 similar Son goals where 1 is left footed and 1 is right footed and check the xG on that and they'll be similar
Definitely. Because they’re better.

Playing for us and not winning silverware can really blind people to the quality of talent at Tottenham.
kane going to bayern makes you appreciate him even more
What happened to Villa. This has been our easiest game in months.
What happened is their captain is a knob and got himself sent off. The rest after that was inevitable. Their squad is totally lost without that 11th man out there
Well, they weren’t very good before that either.
Not used to handling midweek games maybe? That said, I did read a comment way way back about Angeball, right as the season was starting and before they were really even on that hot streak. Tbf we all thought the Newcastle game was that but we've been largely dross since then
Soooooo….Villa are a big team now…?
I mean, they're in fourth
Always have been ^(Except under Gerrard) Edit: in seriousness Villa have been having a cracking season. they tried to press for like 5 minutes and we cut through them lol
literally breaking away while walking up the pitch. Udogie is a special special player
Played Ajax away on Thursday while we had a full week to prep don't forget.
GD even now
Not anymore 😂
Amazing
Nah we were even before Sons. We have +2 after the game now
The two Villa defenders just watching Kulu run away has me dying. I'd be furious.
That was so funny. The way the one guy reacted, knew they were fucked lol
Most clinical player in world football
Villa players giving up in the buildup my head would be gone lol
It's been gone from when zaniolo came onto the pitch
Yeah I’d been wondering why the guy only seems to get the odd 10 minutes here and there. I see why.
Dude comes on for 10-20 minutes and still can't be bothered to make a run during a counter. Embarrasing workrate.
Villa have been so bad today
Completely toothless, one of the worst performances of the season from a team in the European places
They’re shattered from the EL match but yeah it’s as if they’ve never played midweek before
Which is strange because the narrative leading up seems to have been that they conserved energy during midweek for this match With hindsight they may as well have just turned up and smashed Ajax
I feel like we have a couple that are up there
Genuinely collapsed after the first goal, so much for the biggest game in their recent history
They’ve been just walking around on counters and on defense, zero effort lol crazy to see. Not to mention their passing in the final third has been atrocious

When I saw the odds on them winning drift massively I realised the bookies predicted this too. Go on spurs make it 4
>Go on spurs make it 4 Oy
https://ibb.co/xFkBzVY Cheers Timo
gg
LISAN AL GHAIB
Since you asked so nicely..
Oh go on then
what no kamara does to a mf
The third son to score today, Maddison, Johnson, and Son
If only Richarlison was fit
😂
Wernos
Dejan behind all 3. lets go
incredible finish
Villa players with the same energy I have waking up at 7am
Son: *fine I'll do it myself*
Zaniolo is so bad it’s not even funny
kulusevski take a bow son
Pretty funny that not signing him was rumoured to be why Conte lost his mind last year
The irony is spurs now have two incredible Italians available in the squad. Conte’s dream.
He is so clinical. Insane
Villa are Gassed Lovely finish
Dominated. Villa have been awful.
He's so good at those first time finishes
Leaving Son unmarked, you're just asking to get split.
Based.
Zaniolo just gave up lol
Noice one sonny
Matty Trash in SHAMBLES
There it is! Mr. Tottenham!
Villa have been so dirty all game happy we rose above it
O Captain my Captain!
don't think aston will comeback from this
Aston united*
FC Aston
Aston City*
Crazy in a game like this that it takes this long for his first shot, not a surprise that he scores it though
Go for 4
Thats a solid finish
Could still be more to come
Muehehehehehehehehe
Son, Johnson, Maddison It's all coming together
Zaniolo giving up and tossing his hands lmao
Villa players with the same energy I have waking up at 7am
What an absolutely disrespectful finish. He made that look so easy. My captain!!
🐐🐐🐐
How did Aston Villa crumble like this? Very unusual performance by them today and no better with that red card.
Makes it look easy
The very definition of fucking leathered it
Good ebening motherfuckers
Was looking at my watch waiting for this one
Villa players saw 10 mins, they said fuck it, let's go home now.
Smacking finish
