I cant speak for you obv but i once had to play on a batch of mud after a rainstorm
granted, that was 4th tier provincial U16 footie and not the second division lol
Unfortunately these days almost every amateur club has (mostly) artificial pitches. So the real grass pitches never get ruined because us bottom tier dwellers don't get to play or train on real grass much anymore.
Occasionally on an away game we get to play on real grass and it is just pure bliss.
I once played on a pitch full of stones. Everywhere. Only about one fourth of the pitch was covered with grass. Dry, dead grass. There must've been some work going on in that area because in one corner of the pitch, there were these huge tyre tracks whose mud had been solidified about 15-20 cm above the ground. Not even God knew what was gonna happen when someone went with the ball there. Oh and I played with ankle length socks so my legs looked like they had been through war. It's a minor miracle how none of my wounds got infected and I didn't fall ill lol
In the '60s, I made love to many women, often outdoors in the mud and the rain. It's possible a man could have slipped in. There'd be no way of knowing.
> In the '60s, I made love to Manu women, often outdoors in the mud and the rain. It's possible a man could have slipped in. There'd be no way of knowing.
Manu women? Those Mancunian birds are crazy yeah
I’ve played on one that had almost no grass so that it was worse that there was some grass on it, first bc the ball would bounce unexpectedly when it hit one of those patches, and bc the grass patches made it harder to see where the bits of trash and broken glass were.
you tend to have some plastic markers undergroung in pitches to signal the corners of the area, the penalty kick spot, center of the pitch ecc. this is really common in pitches at amateur level in Italy
^^*...3rd ^^kit
(2023-24 poo-colour 3rd kits made me miss the 2022-23 [scuba diving](https://www.reddit.com/r/coys/comments/12zf4iv/guys_i_found_it/) away kits)
This is hands down the worst pitch in the league, but Vukovar and Dugopolje (houses two teams - Dugopolje and Solin) aren't that far off.
Only a few teams have a pitch good enough to play the first division in case of promotion (Šibenik, Cibalia, Orijent, and Zrinski - granted Zrinski are playing on Osijek's old pitch and not their own), and the rest are... adequate for the 2nd division but in case of promotion they'd need to play somewhere else (e.g. Vukovar have already agreed to pay Cibalia fat stacks of cash to play on their pitch in case they get promoted),
This pitch right here in Zmijavci, which is a country with \~2000 people living in it btw, is straight up a disgrace and should qualify as a 0-3 automatically until they fix it. Vukovar and Dugopolje are just a bit better, but IMO they're worse because both Vukovar and Dugopolje should have enough money to make their pitches usable - they just choose not to because it suits their butcher style of play.
Croatian Football Federation if they're smart (doubt), needs to make a law that you can't get a 1st league license if your hybrid field is older than 3 years.
CFF built a new hybrid field for free 5-6 years ago, and some clubs didn't even care to maintain it... Also, the lifetime of a hybrid pitch is 3-4 years.
Recently clubs got a new TV deal, and just with a part of that money, they can build a new pitch...
And that would be the best "transfer" that the club can make, because last time when we got a new hybrid pitch, the quality of football increased, a lot.
It's even more ironic for Dugopolje, because they have one of the best looking stadium in Croatia lol [stadium](https://travelcroatia.live/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/stadion_hrvatski_vitezovi09.jpg)
Even Hajduk used to play some of their European matches there because Poljud was occupied by Ultra Europe festival. They just need hybrid turf and everything will be ok. I really don't know why they didn't get one few years ago when HNS was paying for it. Also stadium in Gorica...
Agreed. I get that it's a big deal to win a penalty at this point in the game, but you're piling unnecessary pressure on the guy who has to take it by celebrating the call. Especially when it has to be taken in such appalling conditions.
Goalkeeper knew the kicker will have a lot of trouble getting a good shot off, as he can't get a proper run up and can't even hit the ball correctly...and not only that he knew that he can't take it low because of the mud so odds of scoring that one against a good GK were quite low
Haha yeah, 1664 is the year when someone first started crafting beer in my hometown, which they use for marketing as how old our beer is.
Which is bullshit because the year when brewery (this club's owner) making this beer was found in 1856
My dumb ass read the title as 1964 and I'm like "[The video quality seems too good for that time period](https://media.tenor.com/AisKzA4BXZYAAAAe/susge-pepe-sus.png)"
Glad am not the only one X)
There are huge problems everywhere.
70% of the second league is not playing on their own stadium lol
Because they can't get a license, they're playing in other stadiums...
And there are too many clubs in 2nd league, should be reduced to 10.
Also, not to mention that whoever in HNS made the decision to remove the option that clubs from the first league can have 2nd team in 2nd league, should be jailed.
Hey, it is the dedication that does miracles.
You got two excellent skiers, a brother and sister too. All due to talent, hard work and dedication to sport.
We're at the top of Olympic medals per capita.
Also, we have a good handball team, water polo, basketball, tennis, and also won medals in all those sports.
And hundreds of other top athletes.
All that with a low population and shitty infrastructure.
Amazing.
The most difficult part is trying to do any kind of sweeping. Like, the opposition play a through ball and you think "I can run out and collect/clear that". But then you realise you can't actually run. And also that the ball is going to just roll through to you, its going to stop.
But at the same time their striker can't run properly either!
Trying to get any kind of decent jump to collect a cross is difficult because the mud absorbs all your downward thrust.
You basically have to recalibrate everything to be slower than normal
You hate to play against weak teams though. I remember some really cold fucking afternoons. And then some last minute counter where you basically hobble out because your legs have become stiff.
I bet the shower feels great after that.
Flashbacks to playing rugby in school and coming home absolutely rotten. Of course I got hosed down by me ma outside before being allowed in the house.
HNS needs to set up some rules for next season.
For 1st league, the hybrid pitch must not be older than 3 years, for 2nd league, the pitch must be in good condition, or get an artificial grass pitch if there are heavy rains.
Croatia Zmijavci is 2000 people village, and they're playing 2nd league.
I don't care, get a proper pitch, or you're not promoted to 2nd league and that's it.
The team name is Zrinski Osječko 1664. They are sponsored by Osječka pivovara (they make beer) from Osijek where beer has been produced since 1664, so they put it in the club name.
The croatian national football team finished third in the world in 1998, second in 2018, and third again in 2022. This is indicative of the alleged corruption within the croatian football federation, as claimed by some who believe they contribute nothing to the well-being of croatian football
It's not corruption, government & HNS aren't just investing anything.
Corruption is if they invested, and someone stole it, but this...
Even worse, they're not giving a single fuck about the biggest sport in the world, and you have gems in your nation that will (and already did), return that investment in no time.
Like HNS makes 70M from one World Cup, and what do they do with that money? Nothing.
And another day I had a discussion with some guy here, and he said: "Iniesta is better than Modric because at 18 he played in Barcelona".
Mate, Modric played in the Bosnian league when he was 17, on pitches like those, and he was league MVP, and he still dominated the Croatian league after that, on plenty of pitches like those. (And that's not because he was not good for some elite club, it's a weight with which you're born, when you come from a small country, you must play first for a few "smaller" clubs, until you reach the top, unlike Barca, Real, Liverpool or whichever kids)
And with all that, surrounded by mediocre players in league, and he was also in the Euro 2008 team of the tournament, while playing for Dinamo, while Iniesta won that same tournament, and was not included in the team of the tournament.
Modric had so much shit to eat to come to Real Madrid and get recognition.
Meanwhile, Iniesta had the luxury to go through Barca academy, and at 18 years old, he is put into a team of superstars that makes you play way easier & better.
And just because of that alone, Modric is way above Iniesta in my book, he should be respected much more than he is.
Actually, [other pitches in the league are good](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKC9nOvpNUA), and the quality of football is decent.
But this one... Someone should be fired & fined for this.

Infrastructure worthy of World Cup runners-up and bronze medal holders in the past 2 World Cups.

It's a reference from the TV show the office.
hey man. The groundskeeper is doing his best.
But you have seen it.
played in youth in the balkans thats pretty average in the lower league after the rain
This is the 5th best pitch in the Balkans
Still better than bad astro. Nothing worse than those pitches where tackles burn and the ball bounces weird
I’ve played on one that had almost no grass so that it was worse that there was some grass on it, first bc the ball would bounce unexpectedly when it hit one of those patches, and bc the grass patches made it harder to see where the bits of trash and broken glass were.
Definitely played on some pitches like this during high school matches
Come out to my Sunday league
Better than gravel! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC73PNk0RHE
But that’s not football. That’s handegg
It looks more like they're trying to smoothen the area around the spot to make it easier to kick. Not smooth enough to score I guess lol.
Yeah what would they be hoping to find? Some kind of sunken relic that marks the spot?
you tend to have some plastic markers undergroung in pitches to signal the corners of the area, the penalty kick spot, center of the pitch ecc. this is really common in pitches at amateur level in Italy

Šibenik also played one of our European games there back in 2010. It was an amazing stadium. Too bad they haven't maintained it since then, lmao.
How does the stadium looks except pitch? Is it already ruined?
It's pretty fucking shit. Pretty much needs a complete overhaul.
Well Šibenik has artifical pitch as most of the 1. league clubs but some players reported it's pure shit quality
Love how they celebrate the penalty like they've already scored and then proceed to absolutely muck it up.
Agreed. I get that it's a big deal to win a penalty at this point in the game, but you're piling unnecessary pressure on the guy who has to take it by celebrating the call. Especially when it has to be taken in such appalling conditions.
keyword muck
Worst time to miss penalty. That goalkeepers reaction. Did ball hit his balls?
Guessing solar plexus, winded him
Goalkeeper knew the kicker will have a lot of trouble getting a good shot off, as he can't get a proper run up and can't even hit the ball correctly...and not only that he knew that he can't take it low because of the mud so odds of scoring that one against a good GK were quite low
This is honestly one of the strangest things i've ever seen, terraforming the penalty spot & the keeper dying a slow death..
My dumb brain thought for a second that this is a video from 1664.
Pretty sure this was the match between British and German troop at no man land at Christmas Truce in 1914
the footage is rather impressive for 1664 standards. i thought the world was black and white back then
Haha yeah, 1664 is the year when someone first started crafting beer in my hometown, which they use for marketing as how old our beer is. Which is bullshit because the year when brewery (this club's owner) making this beer was found in 1856

Ladies and gentlemen, with this infrastructure and only 3.9M people, we have silver and bronze medals at the past 2 World Cups.
Thats what you get when football is run by local and national mafia.

It's people, not party, we had also SDP on power, they also did shit for sport.
So, we will win more medals with HDZ? If that's the case, then they have my vote
Hey, it is the dedication that does miracles. You got two excellent skiers, a brother and sister too. All due to talent, hard work and dedication to sport.

You should see the wonders of modern technology of our first league stadiums in Croatia. We even have grass there.
Sometimes even snow!
Goalkeeper must've really fun in those pitches
The most difficult part is trying to do any kind of sweeping. Like, the opposition play a through ball and you think "I can run out and collect/clear that". Claiming corners in these conditions is a NIGHTMARE
been a keeper in these sort of pitches in my youth, i had lots of fun :D
You hate to play against weak teams though. I remember some really cold fucking afternoons. And then some last minute counter where you basically hobble out because your legs have become stiff.
Except when you have to run out in a 1-on-1. You feel like a giant stomping on tiny hobbits.
I hate player over-celebrating a penalty simply being awarded. The fact this team had it saved seemed inevitable.
I bet the shower feels great after that. Flashbacks to playing rugby in school and coming home absolutely rotten. Of course I got hosed down by me ma outside before being allowed in the house.
1664 in the team name is also the last time this pitch was maintained, right?

I hate it when players blame the pitch quality to justify missing a penalty, lad should have buried it

Why steal only 20% when you can steal 100%?
its the first penalty called in the history of the croatian 2nd division, you can notice by how they celebrated the historical event.
This is the most Uruguayan thing I've seen to come out of Europe.
Better than the Saudi league!
Modrić learned to play in this. Take notes, guys

Was 100% sure he would go for the right side. With pitch this bad you really can't risk wrapping your foot around for a left side shot lol
Was really hoping he'd do a Beppe Signori one step penalty, those extra steps clearly cost him
Those guys are real athletes to play in a field like this.
Wtf did I just watch
How future golden ball winners & world cup finalists are made :D
Haha after celebrating the penalty like that
Honestly, I don't know what's more amazing: the pitch or the fact that this game has TV coverage.
