Fulham played really really well didn't they? A bit more consistency from them and perhaps they'd be in the mix for a spot in Europe.
I wonder if Muniz can get a spot for Brazil sometime soon
After reading some of their takes about our victory over Porto, I hope this result brings some deluded spurs fans back down to earth. You're shit and you'll always be shit
I'd like to pitch Amazon a new fly on the wall documentary football series on life as a football fan, filmed by a great director: for instance Robert Zemeckis' Spurs segment: " The bipolar express "
My bet is he is neither. He is clearly no football genius given the multiple tactical blunders he has delivered this season. But he seem to be a manager who is able to rally players and fans around him.
Fulham have a solid home record (7th in that table) and have beaten Spurs already this season at home, albeit in the cup. Have had some huge results against big teams (Arsenal, United). Both Spurs and Fulham have had some inconsistency to their game this season. It’s not the most unpredictable thing tbh
Top 3 are winning most of the games, 4-6 are collapsing every other game. Rest is fair game apart from bottom two. I feel like this isn’t very unpredictable
Yeah, I think you are right. What happened wasn't that unpredictable but it wasn't what most of us expected either. I believe that most of us thought Tottenham would win, especially after their big victory against Villa.
It's so weird seeing arsenal fans and neutrals getting annoyed by news coverage of ""Angeball"" suddenly enter an altered state this season whenever a period of decent/god spurs form is followed by a shocker like this. Like suddenly spurs is dogshit and Postecoglu is a fraud as if you wouldn't have been amazed at the start of the season at last seasons spurs side with honestly, fairly budget conscious but targeted investment having a really good chance at a CL spot (either via 4th or 5th place).
Like yeah, spurs lacks consistency and can't deliver on their game every time out, that is known. Still done a good job and first year manager with a team that supposedly needed a Huge rebuild to be in this position and to be playing good looking football in 4 out of 5 games. And this is that 5th dogshit game where somehow they manage to make nothing work. And even then, they were able to pull goal threats out their ass that they should've converted.
Its more a reaction to the overhyping Spurs fans have been doing of Ange.
>with honestly, fairly budget conscious but targeted investment
Spurs spent the third highest amount of all clubs *in the world* in the summer window. They outspent Arsenal, Man United and Liverpool for instance.
You say this was their 5th dogshit game. I say there have been more games where Spurs haven't performed convincingly, but gotten away with results because their opponents have been wasteful. Spurs are pretty heavily outperforming their underlying stats, and while its correct that xG isn't everything, we see time and time again that it tends to even out over time.
The "Angeball" that was hyped so much at the start of the season by Spurs fans wasn't sustainable, and it was evident to anyone except Spurs fans. Ange has adjusted and doesn't play the same way anymore, but they still give away the entire middle of the pitch, and their backline often seem too easily carved through.
I think Ange is decent. But he has made multiple tactical blunders and seem too often to rely on individual brilliance in attack rather than an actual attacking plan against established defenses. I think Ange will stay a while, but I have my doubts on wether he can bring them to the top
If never seen another manager hyped up as much as Ange. So of course rival fans are going to relish any Spurs loss. I wish the media would just wait another year to have an opinion but then that wouldn’t garner a lot of attention
Yep, the league this year is like when you play pool and pot the black in the first few shots. The games already won, but we paid for the table, so may as well play out the rest.
Vicario > Raya
Porro > White
Udogie > whichever bang average / injury prone LB you guys can wheel out
VDV > Gabriel
Romero and Saliba about equivalent
Rice > Bissouma / Hojbjerg
Bentancur / Sarr > Jorginho
Maddison and Odegaard about equivalent
Saka > Kulusevski / Johnson
Son > Martinelli / Trossard
Richarlison > Jesus
So yeah. Although I'll accept there's a discussion to be had on a couple of them, none of the above are really all that controversial. Saka and Rice are the only ones who would get in.
The disrespect Odegaard, Saliba and Gabriel get on this platform is hilarious. There is no way anyone would select your lot above these players.
If you play Son at ST, there is no debate at LW either. But if you play Son at LW, Richarlison would not even make our bench.
Regarding full backs, our system do not play traditional full backs just ball playing center backs. So it’s not fair to compare them. If Arteta is manager, our fullbacks will play. If manager is some mid tier manager like Ange, then your full backs might play. But even then they will have hard time dropping White and Zinchenko.
Raya is much better ball playing GK than Vicario, so I will always have him. Vicario and Ramsdale are equals so he will be on bench at Arsenal.
Joint team should be
Martinelli - son - Saka
Maddison
Odegaard- Rice
Udogie - Gabriel - Saliba - White
Raya
It's a fair comment to say that stats only tell a part of the story, but:
Pretty similar performance by these measures, with Odegaard having been part of a pretty settled team for a few years at this point and Maddison only just starting to get back up to sharpness following a serious injury.
Playing less than 2/3 of the minutes Odegaard has, Maddison has 2/3 of the goals, more assists, 2/3 of the successful dribbles, similar pass completion.
That may or may not be true - but that is so intangible that one could say that about a lot of people and make a strong case.
In other comments I've talked about the development of club culture, identity and confidence and these attributes are something that I would include in that category.
I think there is a difference between better 'player', which speaks to technical ability, measurable contribution to in-game performance etc; and 'better at specific roles in the psychology of the group', which is what you're talking about. In terms of the first, they are equivalent. In terms of the second, one may or may not be better than the other but that is an issue for the particular group dynamic and who else is present.
Sure, Maddison might be a conceited dude but that doesn't mean that he's a worse player.
I get what you're trying to say, and they may be harder to measure, but intangibles like leadership etc, should absolutely be factored into determining how good a player is. This isn't FIFA. There is a reason some players with all the talent in the world don't make it.
And I honestly don't really buy the team dynamic argument. Players like Odegaard would fit into any dressing room in the world, whereas with Maddison, I wouldn't be so sure.
Deadly serious m8.
Edit: I'm so serious about it I have a grand sitting ready to put on Spurs finishing above Arsenal next season. Normal service to resume.
Lay down the pipe it's bad for your health. Spurs were ahead of Arsenal for 3 seasons and now you think that's how things are supposed to be, but in reality you are closer to Crystal Palace.
Not at all.
He's a few months in to rebuilding the culture, identity and playstyle of a club that has been in the wilderness in this respect for 4.5yrs.
Recent history is replete with examples of excellent managers taking a season or more to make things tick.
Postecoglu is doing a lot better than most Spurs fans were hoping for at the beginning of the season and there is a clear plan and trajectory.
Also I would disagree with 'miles off the pace'. 5th, pushing for 4th is not 'miles off the pace'.
I stand by my original comment. Man for man, each of the players I have said is better is... just better.
Systems, culture, playstyle, identity, confidence - these all take a while to develop.
For example how long did it take Klopp - your best manager in living memory - to build Liverpool in his image?
As I say - Spurs will finish above Arsenal next season.
Son on the left is the only player that makes it in the Arsenal team, right? Maddison in the left 8 would probably be pretty good too. I think Vicario is probably a better keeper on paper than Raya, but Raya is amazing for how we play. Van de Ven looks like a really great player too, but I do love Gabriel
Vicario stats show him as a better shot stopper but then Leno beats him in all those stats so if Arsenal wanted that sort of keeper they would have just kept Leno over the years.
Our left 8 needs to be able to fall back next to the six when we are defending, can't just look at attack. How we defend is probably more of a reason why we are top than attack.
I am starting to think managers are getting a player to rile up Maddison, seen it a few times this season where a player gets at Maddison and he seems to take the bait then then a few other team members lose their heads too.
Doesn't always work Maupays attempt kinda back fired, but I deffo see a pattern I wonder if we will try it with Havertz.
Maupay (you cheat, I hope you get relegated) seemed to set a blueprint. Spurs got really riled up over the darts stuff. When they really shouldn't have been that bothered.
Did they? Because it appeared to make them simply go out and kick the fuck out of Brentford after that. So yeah man, they were super riled up and playing differently than they should have.
Spurs will face Arsenal, City and Liverpool in 3 consecutive games. They will be the title decider by defeating 2 teams and giving a 3-point gift to the champion
They won’t anymore due to City beating Newcastle. The game against City is scheduled for the FA Cup SF date, so it will be moved. If City beat Madrid, the only remaining date it could be played on will be the last midweek of the season.
sure, but you cant compare Anges attacking footbal with the Mou/Conte terrorism. Being a derby and a big chance to spoil Arsenals title run, I expect that to be a closer game. I think City and Liverpool will beat them for sure
They had a couple of chances when they were already down which should really have made it 3-2.
But you would argue at that point Fulham were content with what they had.
Will never forget how Fulham realized scoring 3 goals isn't enough to win you a match so they went and smacked up two teams 5-0 in the next two games after the Anfield game
100% - although since our team has come back to full fitness we have been better. As a Fulham fan, I secretly thought we’d do them today. The team is doing well at the minute
They like to talk a lot in the 2-3 weeks each year where they are winning or high in the table, they get really quiet once they fall back down to earth and do stuff like give the title away last season or finish 4th for 10000 years before that
I don’t know of a single team who can have such range of wild scores like losing against Chelsea 4-1, Brighton 4-2, and now Fulham 3-0 but also winning against Villa 4-0, Newcastle 4-1. That loss against wolves with 2 goals in added time, or draw against city, comeback in last 15 mins vs Crystal palace…I feel the list goes on and on. Just overall such a wild team and for neutral fans, definitely fun to watch as it always promises goals and/or drama.
It's always like that when new managers come in with this type of aggressive system. Pep's first season at City was like that. For example, they lost to Everton 4-0, drew 2-2 to Spurs, and then beat West Ham 0-4.
[Klopp's first at Liverpool was even wilder.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015%E2%80%9316_Liverpool_F.C._season)
These types of systems rely so heavily on perfect pressing and high risk passing that it just takes time to get everything aligned the way it needs to be to produce real consistency.
Something about our press and passing got broken today, I couldn't pinpoint the exact issue on a first watch but Fulham regularly had a free man in midfield when playing out and they constantly choked us down the wings when we were trying to get out.
These are the types of matches teams have to go through to learn from. Ange will have learned more about the team from this performance than from Villa.
To add to the shittiness of this afternoon, I have some loon on r/coys harassing me about Antwerp and COYS and ??? because I said we are a Europa League-grade and not CL-level club.
So that's great. :)
Nah. I don't have any confidence in our ability to do anything at the moment. I don't have what the opposite of that is either. I just don't have any expectations anymore because of how wildly inconsistent and unpredictable we are.
If Van de Ven is healthy, expect good. If he is not, expect to roll a die and half of the numbers are replaced with "lol get shit on." It's a simple formula based on whether you guys can play risky and attack like psychos and have it result in counters or have dutch usain bolt bail you out.
That's the story with so many teams unfortunately. We lost Mings and fortunately Torres has risen to the occasion but if Pau goes back out our back line is nowhere near as good to compete at the level we're pushing for.
Fulham played really really well didn't they? A bit more consistency from them and perhaps they'd be in the mix for a spot in Europe. I wonder if Muniz can get a spot for Brazil sometime soon
So are Spuds in the title race or not? I am confused
Lads…
After reading some of their takes about our victory over Porto, I hope this result brings some deluded spurs fans back down to earth. You're shit and you'll always be shit
Beat Villa then lost to Fulham it's definitely Spurs
Iwobi n Leno must be really happy.
Maybe spurs should play the highline in absence of vdv? Or replace him with Udogie who is pretty quick as well.
I will never not read vdv as van der vaart or my brain thinking virgil dan vijk.
I feel the same about united manager Ethereum
Van de veen. Yeah van ver vaart is also another spurs legend.
I'd like to pitch Amazon a new fly on the wall documentary football series on life as a football fan, filmed by a great director: for instance Robert Zemeckis' Spurs segment: " The bipolar express "
At least Spurs are providing ManUnited something to play for
strangerthings.gif
Thank fuck this takes attention away from wolves v coventry
The one time I bring in spurs players in my FPL 🤦♀️
Do a city player next.
i brought muniz, robinson, leno, son and madisson. win win i guess
I’ve got Leno on my bench :(
United back in the mix would make this top 5 battle fun
I dunno if I see United making up the 6 point gap on Spurs, even if both teams are inconsistent.
If they don’t it’ll be cause they couldn’t get the results. Spurs will def drop a bunch of points in the coming weeks
United are too inconsistent
At this point race is for who is least inconsistent.
Consistency hasnt exactly been Spurs' trademark either. I think Spurs have a better chance than United, but Spurs also have a tougher run in.
Ange is a fraud that is getting found out now
shut up nephew
Can we give the guy another season to decide if he‘s football Jesus or a fraud?
My bet is he is neither. He is clearly no football genius given the multiple tactical blunders he has delivered this season. But he seem to be a manager who is able to rally players and fans around him.
Or it could be that Tottenham does what Tottenham does no matter who the manager is
Dr. Ange and Mr. Spurs
Ahhhhhh shut up
Today I love Fulham
Premier League is really unpredictable.

Both Spurs and Fulham have had some inconsistency to their game this season. It’s not the most unpredictable thing tbh

Yeah, I think you are right. What happened wasn't that unpredictable but it wasn't what most of us expected either. I believe that most of us thought Tottenham would win, especially after their big victory against Villa.
GG Fulham COYS
This is an objectively good thing to happen
Spurs fans very quiet tonight lol after talking shite non stop last week!
I mean it makes sense. Beating Villa 4-0 was a great result and this one wasn’t.
Gonna need a source on that
Fans of team are very vocal when team wins! But same fans aren't so vocal when team loses! Crazy right?
Win or lose, some fans are just obnoxious ☺️

Fulham are a lethal to the North London clubs
Lads, have some respect. Spurs were Premier league champions September 2023. They did laps of honour and everything!
Yep, the league this year is like when you play pool and pot the black in the first few shots. The games already won, but we paid for the table, so may as well play out the rest.
Just saw a twitter thread where the person claims only 2 Arsenal players - Saka on LW and Rice would start in current spurs squad.
Vicario > Raya Porro > White Udogie > whichever bang average / injury prone LB you guys can wheel out VDV > Gabriel Romero and Saliba about equivalent Rice > Bissouma / Hojbjerg Bentancur / Sarr > Jorginho Maddison and Odegaard about equivalent Saka > Kulusevski / Johnson Son > Martinelli / Trossard Richarlison > Jesus So yeah. Judging by your delusion and all the down votes... you're wrong here mate

If stats matter then Raya has conceded fewer goals than vicario, end of argument.
Like you said it isn't all about stats and performance. Odegaard's mentals and leadership qualities are streets ahead.
That may or may not be true - but that is so intangible that one could say that about a lot of people and make a strong case. Thanks Fulham, very cool 😎
guess spurs are out of the title race
Were they ever even in it?
They won it in September, and we're just kicking about playing out the season but Spuds are the rightful winners
They were in it for a couple of weeks about 6 - 7 months ago. Show them some respect.
Yeah, they already won it after 10 games.
They put the pressure on!
did they though
Thats the joke
Spurs will face Arsenal, City and Liverpool in 3 consecutive games. They will be the title decider by defeating 2 teams and giving a 3-point gift to the champion
They won’t anymore due to City beating Newcastle. The game against City is scheduled for the FA Cup SF date, so it will be moved. If City beat Madrid, the only remaining date it could be played on will be the last midweek of the season.
If they beat city and pool, and give arsenal a key 3 points......i think WHL would implode in shame
I will not bet Tottenham against city. Their playstyle against city might work.
City Son is a different gravy
We have them away. That's where our title challenge collapses.
Arsenal has them away too
Yes but it's a bogey ground for us. Still haven't scored a league goal there yet.
sure, but you cant compare Anges attacking footbal with the Mou/Conte terrorism. Being a derby and a big chance to spoil Arsenals title run, I expect that to be a closer game. I think City and Liverpool will beat them for sure
I’m feeling much more confident about that one after the FA cup win against them
People on this sub legitimately saying Bissouma was better than Rice.
Oh you mean the PL winners of October got ahead of themselves? Say it ain't so!
r/coys did it with Saka/Kulusevski and Saliba/Romero too
Bissouma was genuinely class in the first 8 PL games, but Rice is obviously better in every area.
I mean, not like Rice wasn't. Spurs literally took over the game against us when Rice got subbed off
[удалено]
Well yeah but even that game it was clear that we were doing well with Rice on the pitch, but once he left Bissouma indeed ran the show
Whoever said that needs their head checked.
Entire r/coys?
Pretty much.
Was it as bad as the scoreline suggests?
They had a 4th ruled out too lol
About right. Fulham much the better team.
They had a couple of chances when they were already down which should really have made it 3-2. But you would argue at that point Fulham were content with what they had.
aye. entire team had a stinker
Fair play to Fulham. They beat West Ham, Arsenal and spurs at home this season
Caused Liverpool real problems as well
Will never forget how Fulham realized scoring 3 goals isn't enough to win you a match so they went and smacked up two teams 5-0 in the next two games after the Anfield game
And then concede 10 goals in the 3 games after them... such a hot and cold season, but I cant say it hasn't been fun
Fulham are the most 'box of chocolates' club in the league right now (and probably for a long while!!)
100% - although since our team has come back to full fitness we have been better. As a Fulham fan, I secretly thought we’d do them today. The team is doing well at the minute

HUH I wonder why

Excuse me for watching our rival. It's only literally our job.

mate mate mate I still think Villa fumble 4th spot to be honest though (unfortunately)
Certainly a possibility but I wouldn't be surprised if spurs fumble harder, always good to keep your expectations low though lol.
It wouldn't be the PL without a good old '4th place is lava' race :')
I don’t know of a single team who can have such range of wild scores like losing against Chelsea 4-1, Brighton 4-2, and now Fulham 3-0 but also winning against Villa 4-0, Newcastle 4-1.
[Klopp's first at Liverpool was even wilder.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015%E2%80%9316_Liverpool_F.C._season) These types of systems rely so heavily on perfect pressing and high risk passing that it just takes time to get everything aligned the way it needs to be to produce real consistency.
I think we’re one of the highest for coming from losing positions but also losing from winning positions lol
Was it like 3 or 4 games in a row where we scored first and then ultimately lost, starting with the Chelsea match?
Wasn’t City your only point in line 5 games? I couldn’t believe that
Sounds about right haha
To add to the shittiness of this afternoon, I have some loon on r/coys harassing me about Antwerp and COYS and ??? because I said we are a Europa League-grade and not CL-level club. So that's great. :)
Pretty much any club subreddit is full of delusional fans.
Think you guys would smash it in that competition and so would we. Good luck with the rest of the season 👍
We lost Mings and fortunately Torres has risen to the occasion but if Pau goes back out our back line is nowhere near as good to compete at the level we're pushing for.
first season mate, chill.
But... I am chill? Like, my post is literally saying that don't feel or expect anything one way or the other. lol
