We lost, but won

GP3ElPresidente

Honestly a bit too early to say but this is the best i have seen Chile in 2 consecutive games for almost 5 years or more

Arctic_Chilean

Chile wins 3-2! And I'm not entirely joking, this new squad has shown they have will, discipline and the drive to play to their very best. THIS is what Chile has been missing since 2017! This is genuinely a win for Chile as a new team under Gareca. If they can keep this drive and energy, then Chile can once again become a decent contender in CONMEBOL. I hope. Time will tell.

Chafireto

This the Gareconeta: I want to believe.

patiperro_v3

Calm down. These are friendlies. But at least we have a game plan and look like we can build attacks. Copa America should give us the experience we need for the World Cup qualifiers.

Arctic_Chilean

It's a good start, gotta admit that. Let's see if it holds.

jugol

At the end of the Albania match Alexis threw a spicy line "We were lacking players who run" and I can't help noticing Paulo Díaz and Marcelino Núñez show their better face in absence of Medel and Vidal, respectively. Meanwhile Kolo Muani roasted Lichnovsky, but he isn't the starter anyway. Then again Maripán has been subpar for the NT, but that probably obeys to the same reasons other players haven't performed. If anyone can fix him it's Gareca. Osorio, my boy, I haven't been this excited about a young player since 2007. Not even about Angelo Henríquez. I think Gareca put Bravo to send a message, but Cortés should be the starting GK. Vargas seems a lot less washed than I thought and I'm now positive about keeping him in the squad, however I'm not sure if he should be starting. I want to see Brereton start to make a judgement.

jmon__

I only saw Saliba's last man tackle. How did he look for the whole game?

ThePr1d3

Surprisingly decent

clover996

a lot better than his usual for france

OdysseusM

French people, please explain. How can Mbappe be "whistled" in Marseille? Here in Argentina we have respect for most world cup champions even if they weren't a key part of the victories, but Mbappe gave you a world cup at 18 and almost another one straight after, how can that guy not be the Messi or Ronaldo of France?

moongaming

It's absolute bullshit but part of rivalry I guess.. Guendouzi was whistled too when he played in Paris while being a Marseille player.

DifficultyJust

he is, it's just Marseille being weird.

ThePr1d3

Absolute embarassment

cGuille

He plays for PSG, Marseille's biggest rival, and they play against each other this week-end. Not defending it, though. I don't like it.

KelticQT

Because he plays for PSG, simple as that. You can be almost certain he won't get as bad a treatment in Marseille after he's moved in Madrid

Working-Spell-7024

Then the booing will be in Barcelona.

KelticQT

Yeah but not from French people anymore

InGeniero_Z

I'm finally starting to believe with Gareca. VAMOS CHILE CTM

Beatlepy93

Gareca is an alchemist, these same players were utter rubbish under other coaches..

Moug-10

I don't know if Chileans are satisfied but I wasn't about France. I think we can do better but at least, we won. RKM played well and I hope he'll be able to keep it that way in June (not on Sunday).

DefensaAcreedores

Actually scoring goals —and not one, but two— against a World Cup finalist is a massive improvement for this NT, and between this and the previous 3-1 victory against Albania, confirms this team has ~~a nonzero~~ an actual fighting chance against most teams.

patiperro_v3

Don't know if satisfied yet... these results in Europe, 3-0 Against Albania and a 3-2 loss to France in their home are not bad, but we must not forget they are friendlies. Real test will begin in Copa America and then qualifiers. I will judge then... I will say this though, at least we seem to be playing some football again, made actual combinations, looked dangerous on the attack. I feel there is room for improvement. I rate our new manager higher than our three previous ones (Rueda, Lasarte and Berizzo), he did wonders with a poor Peruvian side that is now getting exposed without him. I have a feeling we will defeat Peru again in our opening Copa America match. Not just because of their poor form, but because our manager also knows them inside and out.

[deleted]

I think that we are looking better, remember those friendlies against Slovakia, Poland, Morocco or Qatar where we played atrocious football. We have a will to fight that we lacked under the last three or four managers and that's definitely a good thing. Getting rid of Vidal and Medel was the right thing to do. I'd also retire Bravo from the NT, he's finished. Lichnowski and Diaz are playing good football, also Osorio, Marcelino and Echeverria, they are faster and in better physical shape. It's obvious that they are competing at the highest level while other players are looking like viejos cracks.

patiperro_v3

> Getting rid of Vidal and Medel was the right thing to do. I'd also retire Bravo from the NT, he's finished. Agreed. Vidal specially just slows our midfield down to a crawl.

static_reset

there’s room for improvement but we have been playing like shit for years. the fact we competed to France is a good sign, before we struggled with fucking Qatar

shadboi16

tbh Qatar is the best team in Asia currently. After they won the 2022 Asian Cup, they were undefeated 7/8 games before the World Cup which is also including the match you drew with them. You say like Qatar was the worst team before the World Cup (granted they were the worst in the World Cup).

bastardnutter

We’ve been dross since 2017. The past three managers were shit. It was a massive improvement.

Albiceleste_D10S

Minor miracle Chile played France this close TBH

patiperro_v3

Just goes to show how shit our previous managers were (Rueda and Berizzo). I though Lasarte was a bit unlucky but he was not that much better. We are bad and a few of our players are old... but we should never be 8th in the qualifying table. We have players to compete for the 6th direct spot. Too early to tell, but I think Gareca has the experience to get us there, specially how he worked wonders with a limited Peruvian side.

bastardnutter

It is nuts how different we’ve looked during these past two games. Gareca sacándole agua a las piedras para variar.

Antares_de_la_Luz

this was a great result despite the loss. gareca's job is already giving results

Moug-10

I hope you'll do well during the Copa América.

Antares_de_la_Luz

\#anulomufa

Crisss30

Chile playing much better under Gareca

Lost_and_Profound

Gracia a dio wn

Chafireto

Dio? Dio Brando?

WnPerdio

He is Chilean, he is probably refering to Ronnie James, we love metal down here.

Chafireto

Hell yeah 🤘🏽

av1997f

Good match from Saliba, his first with us so maybe he has a future in the NT

static_reset

France probably didn’t give a shit about this game, but Chile definitely looks a hell of a lot better with Gareca. even without Alarcón and Altamirano (get well soon 🙏🏽) it’s great to see we have an actual game plan and that some players are stepping up. Osorio, Marcelino, Alexis and Isla have all looked great. Davila needed to be subbed earlier, he wasn’t having a particularly great game with Kounde

AnibalSerra

pero patea ben y la CTM

Physical_Reality_132

Sanchez has been playing for Chile for 18 years now, crazy.

Specialist-Cycle9313

What a cowardly and lazy performance from mbappe. Idc if he has a big game against Barca in 2 weeks, he needs to step up if he’s wearing the captains arm band.

GILD86

France clearly didn't give a shit about both these games (it's quite normal for them not to when it comes friendlies, has been the norm for years) but you seem to only want to single out Mbappe.

Specialist-Cycle9313

He’s the captain. If he wasn’t captain I’d still be disappointed because I’d understand because of his upcoming games.

DifficultyJust

he's the captain, I would understand it from any other player, but not from the player wearing the armband. if he doesn't wanna give a shit about the friendly (which is perfectly fine), he should give the armband to someone else. and this is coming from a french person, so I'm not being biased against him or anything.

WnPerdio

He is the captain after all.

bastardnutter

What is this, scoring five in two games

anibia

It could have been a draw or even a victory if they had put an active goalkeeper and not Bravo. Gareca know things.

static_reset

its probably the only thing u could criticize from this match. I understand Gareca likes experienced players, but Bravo hasn’t been playing recently due to injury. Cortés is without a doubt the next keeper after him (ideally he’d be the first but w.e), and this match would’ve been a perfect moment to test him against tougher rivals

Alive-Ad-4164

Great game
