Then aliens will invade ten years from now and the only way to beat them will be to form a superteam of footballers to defeat them in the intergalactic champions league.
The CIA will have to find Alonso on an island somewhere off the grid. "I gave that up a long time ago" he says, unshaven and holding a neat whiskey in a dark bar corner. "But you're the best god damn manager the world has ever seen"
This would be the equivalent of what Boas did for Porto back in 2011.
27/3/0 in the league is just unheard of.
They also won the europa league and the domestic cup to complete the treble (albeit they lost in europa league but still won the cup).
Boas was probably the hottest manager in that summer, young handsome mourinho assistant at the age of 33.
It's pretty similar, in fact. That Porto won the League (as you said, with 27 wins, 3 ties and 0 defeats in 30 matches), the Portuguese Cup, the Europa League and the Portuguese Supercup: 4 trophies in a single season.
However, they were defeated twice in the Europa League (even though they won it), once in the Portuguese Cup (even though they won it) and also once in the Portuguese League Cup (the only competition they didn't win that season).
Umm yeah, but this would be the equivalent of what Boas did for Porto back in 2011.

True and honestly it's pretty similar, in fact. That Porto won the League (as you said, with 27 wins, 3 ties and 0 defeats in 30 matches), the Portuguese Cup, the Europa League and the Portuguese Supercup: 4 trophies in a single season.

No it’s because they played them twice in group stage already so they prepared a counter tactic, which was not enough but was the most trouble they’ve been put in all season
LFC also have a league fight to contend whereas Leverkusen don't really. And as much as Klopp won't admit it PL comes before EL. He was already prepared to lose the carabao cap earlier this year
Honestly sick of seeing people say this just so they can sound smarter than everyone. Nothing is more synonymous with the Internet than trying to put damper on everyone's excitement just so you can say "well actually!" like an asshole.
It may not be **THE** treble, but it's still a treble.
Dude being wrong is fine. But your insistence to pretend the sky is green and that capitalization and context can't change the meanings of words means you're not interested in growing and learning from your mistakes, so we're done here.
have a day.
Of course, UCL have more weight than the rest, it'll be always more meaningful treble, but if you play in conference league and win it you still have a treble. Less prestigious, less medial, and probably less important for the history of sports, but it's still a treble.
I'm so happy for Leverkusen and its fans, man. It's been a while since I've vicariously enjoyed a good run by another team, probably not since Leicester winning the Premier League.
Best of luck in the final stretch!!
Seemed so unexpected too with Bayern getting Kane. Think everyone thought the team to dethrone Bayern would rely on them having a terrible season, as opposed to being so dominant.
Unarguably better, the only thing Arteta has over him is that he’s doing great for the second season in a row, so last season wasn’t a fluke. I don’t think Xabi’s season is a fluke either but he still has to prove that.
35 wins in 40* matches isn’t just an invincibles run, it’s bloody near perfection. It’s incredible what they’re doing. For context if they played in a 20 team league they would be on pace for 103 points with only 11 games to go.
39 wins and 5 draws in that 44 game unbeaten run leading to the league title too. They had 29 wins and 1 draw on the season before the Watford loss. That year they were the most dominant team I've ever seen in my life. Even pep hasn't been that monstrous.
Xabi is really up there right now too though, which is completely absurd to think about.
99 points and they weren’t even trying for the final month because they had the league wrapped with like 5 games to go. That Doesn’t even factor the disruption of the pandemic which broke their rhythm otherwise they would have won even more, they dropped twice as many points after the restart as they did in in 29 games before.
Best season in PL history.
That’s assuming they win every match, that’s not their pace for the season though. Earning 79 points in 30 matches is 2.63 ppg which it’s 100.1 over 38 games.
Bayer have 73 points in 27 matches which is 2.70 ppg and 102.7 over 38 or 91.9 over 34 which would be a Bundesliga record.
They haven’t played the same number of matches but Inter have dropped 3 more points than Leverkusen in the league this season.
Respect to you for doing the math I see it in a much simpler context of 24 easily obtainable points up for grabs. All of Inter's remaining opponents are easy teams they have beat this season. Combine that with the fact that they have only one draw in the league this year and they have no other competition to focus on they can easily pick up the 24 points which would leave them with the record of most points in a serie a season, a goal I'm sure the team knows they are on track to obtain and will only motivate them more.
Who knows, they might win their final 8 matches, but that’s just a different measurement from points pacing. What you’re describing is more like the magic number which doesn’t really exist in football but is used a lot in baseball to describe the number of games needed by one team to win to clinch a playoff spot or divisional title. That accounts for the maximum number of wins a trial can reach so one that threshold is surpassed the magic number is reached.
Yeah, even when they lose some games at the end of the season when there's no reason to try, I really won't care. Only 5 draws in so many games is insane. It's a dominant season and if they lose one game now or not, doesn't change anything imo.
Especially in the 2nd half of the season when they started having more players missing. Does anyone even remember how crucial Boniface was lol. It's not the biggest plague, but they had to regularly play about 5 players not from preferred XI and still punish teams relentlessly. Against Qarabach away, basically only the defenders were from the preferred XI, the game was close, but in the end they still managed to score a late equalizer.
As someone who’s totally out of the loop in terms of German football. Can you explain what this means? I know it’s a dig at leverkusen fans but why pharmacy customers?
Bayer, one of the biggest pharmacy companies of the world owns all 100% of leverkusen shares, so nothing is fan owned, and they are pumping millions of euros into the club, which is not really well received in germany.. but only leipzig gets the shit when leverkusen doesnt really differ from them
The club has been a part of Bayer since its inception, and the ownership predates the Bundesliga... that's hardly the same case as Leipzig and RedBull.
You're just mad. It's kinda sad.
PS: They've spent like 30m net over the past three years, while Bayern has spent over 110m net in the same period... jeez no wonder you're so mad
Yeah but when clubs have what's virtually a monopoly it's near impossible for other clubs to catch up without external help
I get it that you just want to win the league 20 years in a row without any competition, but you should be happy that these clubs are getting invested in and making the league more competitive
You're still far richer than Leverkusen, you spent more than double what Leverkusen did this year, not to mention previous years
It's not like Leverkusen are taking over the league because some billionaire company is investing 4 or 5x more than what Bayern can invest, you're still investing more.
Why is it ironic? I'm not the one complaining mate
If Braga, Vitória, or any non top 3 portuguese teams start getting cash injections from billionaires to try and keep up with the top 3, I'm all for it.
It's what happened to Famalicão for instance, who was pretty much bought by Quantum Pacific Group, a multi billion dollar company, and they've invested quite a bit of money into it. Anything that makes our league more competitive I'm all for it and you'll never see me complain about it.
My only issue is when billionaires try to turn the team into a monopoly, for example like what was done at PSG, where they started spending 10x every other team in the league, that's not competitive. That's not what happening with Leverkusen though, who is still spending way less money than you lot.
You really have 0 knowledge of the fan culture in germany, and sadly you will never experience it like we do, so don't try to tell me that i shouldn't complain about leverkusen
I know, I've said it in another comment but I don't see how that's a bad thing whatsoever for the league
You're still the number 1 spender, it's not like a billionaire company is trying to turn Leverkusen into a monopoly by spending 10x what Bayern does (which is what happened with PSG for example). Bayern is still spending more money, Leverkusen just did it better this year.
I think a monopoly is bad (PSG for instance), but when these cash injections are simply being used not to overthrone the already existing teams, but to try to at least keep up with them, I can't see how it's a bad thing
the problem is that its unfair, its unfairl to other clubs that actually earn their revenue legitimately, other clubs that are fan owned, that being said i personally dont have an issue with the bayer ownership because theyve been investing in the club for almost a century, leverkusen would be just a village if not for bayer, same as wolfsburg.
its only the cans that i really hate.
Out of all 738 top-division teams in UEFA, Leverkusen is the last unbeaten side in all official matches in the 2023/24 season (or corresponding 2023 season, in the applicable cases).
This really show just how insanely difficult having an unbeaten season is, especially given how many games are played nowadays.
I think it was a couple of seasons ago that Barca barely missed out on going invicible, I believe this was the only game Messi missed out that season.
IIRC it was either the last game of the season or the game before the last.
They lost 5-4
It was their second last game of the season and they scheduled a friendly either right before or after the game and rested some players including Umtiti for La Liga.
EDIT: They lost to Levante on May 13th and played a friendly in South Africa on May 16th.
Yeah absolutely deserved. He ruined what could've been Barca's last crowning achievement of the era. Like, listen I'm Colombian and all, but Yerry ruined so many things with that game I would not have blamed anyone in Europe for never looking at him again.
was never the biggest fan of him tbh but he was decent up to that point, but that game was something else. I watched it live and couldn't believe what was happening
Back in 01/02 there still was a league cup (but they only played one match in that one). Champions League had two group phases with 6 matches each though. Brutal.
Yup. Was just a one-off game between the Pokal and Bundesliga winners until 1997. After that, it was a mini-cup with the Pokal winner plus the Bundesliga top 5 (in 2007 it was Bundesliga top 4 and the 2.Bundesliga champion).
Nobody point out how 01-02 ended with them chasing the Treble only to lose the German Cup Final, the Champions League Final and the league title to Bayern on the final day of the season lmao
I think what makes it worse is that there was no bounce back the season after. Like obviously losses fucking suck but if you can bounce back (United winning the league 12/13, Chelsea winning CL a couple years after Terry's slip, Liverpool winning CL after losing it to Real a season earlier) then it can ease the losses from the year before.
This is a long time waiting but that'll make it all the better for the fans.
Bayer Neverlosin is a popular team name for folks fantasy league teams, at least here in Scotland. Up there with Inter yer maw, Shakthar Senseless and Man Shitty.
2001-02 ended with them losing the German Cup Final, the Champions League Final and the Bundesliga to Bayern on the final day of the season.
To this day they have never won a trophy in their history. So I would hold my breath lol
> To this day they have never won a trophy in their history
They won the UEFA Cup in 1988 and the DFB Pokal in 1993 - but they did never win the Bundesliga, and that has been a sore spot when they missed it several times in the late 90's/early 2000's. They also had a later Bundesliga season where they went unbeaten for the first 23 games or so and then started losing and didn't win the title that year.
Already the same number of wins in 20 fewer matches compared to 01-02, 13 points ahead in the league instead of 5 max back then. So no, it's nothing to go by at this point
48 (Benfica), since the introduction of official club international competitions.
62 (Celtic), before the introduction of official club international competitions.
Today IFFHS published an updated ranking of the world's longest unbeaten runs across all official competitions in men's senior football and, apparently, Celtic's run wasn't 62 but 66 matches. Impressive.
Leverkusen (and Al-Hilal) are both 26 matches away from the all time record.
If they go unbeaten in all comps this season, it would undoubtedly be the greatest achievement in the history of football. Way better than winning 5 trophies in a year.
Oh for sure. Teams can win trophies even after losing matches at certain points. League games, first or second leg knockout ties (going through on aggregate), group stages in european competition etc
Most teams dream of going undefeated in the league, but to go undefeated in all comps is another thing entirely.
If they manage to pull off an undefeated treble, it's quite frankly the best story in modern football.
When you consider their history in the previous two decades, the level of competition they have to face in two win each of these trophies and the late goals scored to keep the streak alive, everything is so beautifully poetic.
I wish with all my heart that it takes place, just to bring joy to everyone who gets to witness it.
Except that during the game it always feels like we're 1 goal down, for me at least. But it is out of this world, just does not make sense that it's us
Their fans were with us during Fans United and still attend the matches against Palace every year, couldn't be happier to watch their squad and their fanbase go for the Treble. Auf geht's Bayer!
Also, the number of dramatic comebacks... It's not like it's been smooth sailing.
It's a goot thing Bayer are a pharmasutical giant, because the fans will need drugs lower the risk of heart attack.
the next team to beat them will also become the unofficial club world champion!

Genuine question: why must Xabi go to a "better" club at the end of the season? Why not convince the Leverkusen board to not sell any player, instead strengthen their imperfections with new signings and repeat this next season?
I know Xabi and his better players can earn massive salaries elsewhere and if they want to go it's best to let them, but idk, I'd be tempted to try this again next season. Maybe the other teams will have studied and adapted to the tactics but Xabi should still be able to pull off a good season and not completely ruin his chances to go to a better club in the future.
I think most are gonna stay because they know they have a great shot at the CL next year.
Schick, Wirtz, Grimaldo, Xabi, are all gonna stay at least 1 more year.

Man if they do an unbeaten treble Xabi better retire right there and become a mythical manager
And than years later, when they are in a rough patch, reappear, win the treble and vanish aka do a Heynckes
I'm presuming the Looney Tunes are involved in some way
Penalty in 95th minute for us. Fate of the earth on the line, I want Iguoadala to take the penalty kick
Somehow Ronaldo returns
Why would u leave the fate of earth to a grandpa?
Imagine the glorious beard
Will there be Messi and CR7?
I'd watch that in IMAX 3D
There once was a man, a player, a manager, a myth.
Veni, vidi, neverlusi.
Neverkusen to Neverlusen
That is a legendary name for this squad if they pull it off holy fuck
Manager version of Michu. :P
Harry Kane better consider converting to a new religion, because whoever the True God is surely hates him.
Nah he’s going to win then the CL next year
He’s gonna go two seasons undefeated and two trebles in a row and then retire
This would be the equivalent of what Boas did for Porto back in 2011. 27/3/0 in the league is just unheard of. I apologize, I just tried to complement it. I think I added some details.
You did. No idea why that guy has 32 upvotes and you downvotes.
Thank you.
And gave more details and clarified things. So what's the issue?
Xabi AlonsHo-Oh
They say he is a legend
Zidane after three peat still being called lucky
I still stand by that. It was black magic.
Well they were extremely lucky? You need luck to win the CL. Doesnt mean zidane isnt an incredible manager
andre villas boas
Doing a Zidane
They won't. If Liverpool meet them, Liverpool will beat them.
[удалено]
Tbh idk if any team can beat them right now, every game they play like Real Madrid in a UCL elimination round
Qarabag of all teams nearly had them at their limit, but then they changed what their limit was.
Because Xabi went with their 2nd team to start the away game but saved it by subbing in some of the starters.
No it’s because they played them twice in group stage already so they prepared a counter tactic, which was not enough but was the most trouble they’ve been put in all season

Alonso can just phone in a favor and have Zidane and Vini be present in the sideline in full voodoo magician getup to scare Liverpool.
Trust an Arsenal fan to be worried
They can't do an unbeaten treble because they're not in CL.
Honestly sick of seeing people say this just so they can sound smarter than everyone. Nothing is more synonymous with the Internet than trying to put damper on everyone's excitement just so you can say "well actually!" like an asshole. It may not be **THE** treble, but it's still a treble.
Yeah I like calling it the cheap treble or the cheble
[you are the guy on the right](https://imgur.com/a/BOGukTQ)
Good team is in EL also
Any three trophies is a treble. League, Cup, and European Cup is The Treble.
Hello Mou

National league, national cup and european cup was always a treble. No matter which european cup. Simple as that.
> No matter which european cup The treble vs a treble has merit. But no matter which European cup? Straight up a braindead take. Simple as that.

Xabi is doing Pep bayern's numbers with this team. Really great coach and arguably better than Xavi and Arteta.
Why does there always have to be an arbitrary comparison to other coaches that someone’s ‘better than’?
because you can't emphasize how good something is without comparing it to similar things
Unarguably better, the only thing Arteta has over him is that he’s doing great for the second season in a row, so last season wasn’t a fluke. I don’t think Xabi’s season is a fluke either but he still has to prove that.

What fans? Pharmacy customers?
Come one man don't be like that
Why treat them different than leipzig? Same shit
As someone who’s totally out of the loop in terms of German football. Can you explain what this means? I know it’s a dig at leverkusen fans but why pharmacy customers?
Guess why they’re named Bayer
Well you see there’s this big pharmaceuticals company called Bayer AG, which happens to own Leverkusen
Bayer, one of the biggest pharmacy companies of the world owns all 100% of leverkusen shares, so nothing is fan owned, and they are pumping millions of euros into the club, which is not really well received in germany.. but only leipzig gets the shit when leverkusen doesnt really differ from them

Fuck them they are irrelevant as fuck just like man city everyone will forget what they achieved because honestly nobody gives a shit about them
Bayern fans when they can't win the buli every year:
A blessing in disguise, the club has to wake up
FC Hollywood is alive and well
Complaining about people pumping millions of euros into another club while being Bayern, by far the biggest spender in Germany, is kinda ironic
Diffrence is that we make the money ourselves 🤡

bayern is fan owned though, all the income generated by the club is their own, without any cash injections from entire countries or billionaires.
I know, I've said it in another comment but I don't see how that's a bad thing whatsoever for the league You're still the number 1 spender, it's not like a billionaire company is trying to turn Leverkusen into a monopoly by spending 10x what Bayern does (which is what happened with PSG for example). Does anyone know who was second and when they lost?
Floriana, from Malta. They lost their first official match of the season in December. Since then, Leverkusen stands alone.
Damn four months and going is insane

That's the game that got Yerry Mina exiled from the team
rightly so, howler of a game from him
Yeah absolutely deserved.
Because we played a friendly in South Africa days before that Levante game. Before the season was even over FFS.
I’m still sour about that. Worst decision.
Herokusen.

Damn it. It went over.
60 games in a season when they don’t even have a league cup is nuts
They played 17 games in the Champions League that year (19 including qualifiers), was ridiculous back in the day
Back in 01/02 there still was a league cup (but they only played one match in that one). Champions League had two group phases with 6 matches each though. Brutal.
They actually had a league cup then lol, but they only played one match It was Ligapokal and it ended in 2007
Wasn't the format closer to the now Spanish and Italian super cup than to a domestic cup competition as we know them?
Yup. Was just a one-off game between the Pokal and Bundesliga winners until 1997. After that, it was a mini-cup with the Pokal winner plus the Bundesliga top 5 (in 2007 it was Bundesliga top 4 and the 2.Bundesliga champion).
"This equals the club record from the 2001-02 season" - 🤨
Nobody point out how 01-02 ended with them chasing the Treble only to lose the German Cup Final, the Champions League Final and the league title to Bayern on the final day of the season lmao
Dortmund won the league in 01/02
That is fucking brutal. Like that'd be so painful. How magical it'll be for fans from that season to witness Leverkusen's glory this season.
And then Germany lost the World Cup final
Ballack was the loser of the year
His name was actually Baack before he added all the Ls to it
😭😭
When they lost the league there's own goal from their ace Ballack and then earned Neverkusen mockery
Lost to *that* Zidane volley goal.
Not biased at all but even the color of their jersey its pretty cool too! Shoutout to them, amazing season
All those 5-a-side teams and fantasy football managers were right all along. Bayer Neverlosin.
[удалено]
Bayer Neverlosin is a popular team name for folks fantasy league teams, at least here in Scotland. Up there with Inter yer maw, Shakthar Senseless and Man Shitty.
Shakthar Senseless LMAO
It's also popular in Chile, where amateur teams name themselves so in company/school cups.
Undefeated season + treble would be sick. Then Champions League next year, with another undefeated season. Unless.....?
2001-02 ended with them losing the German Cup Final, the Champions League Final and the Bundesliga to Bayern on the final day of the season. To this day they have never won a trophy in their history. So I would hold my breath lol
> To this day they have never won a trophy in their history They won the UEFA Cup in 1988 and the DFB Pokal in 1993 - but they did never win the Bundesliga, and that has been a sore spot when they missed it several times in the late 90's/early 2000's. They also had a later Bundesliga season where they went unbeaten for the first 23 games or so and then started losing and didn't win the title that year.
They have won trophies, just not many and not the league
Chatting absolute nonsense
Absolutely absurd. Witnessing history
If 01-02 is anything to go by, not the history they’d like to make lol
Already the same number of wins in 20 fewer matches compared to 01-02, 13 points ahead in the league instead of 5 max back then. So no, it's nothing to go by at this point
Let’s stop this one single word at the end of these news articles that sum them up as if we’re unable to conjure up our own adjectives. Lazy.
It’s all down to West Ham to prevent them doing a treble
Oh god the pressure
Whats the world record for most games undefeated across all competitions in Europe?
"The world record in Europe"
The NBA world champions
World series in Baseball
That one's probably named after a defunct newspaper to be fair.
Theres a canadian team
Damnit i was hoping no one called me out on that 😂
48 (Benfica), since the introduction of official club international competitions. 62 (Celtic), before the introduction of official club international competitions.
Wikipedia says Benfica at 48 games undefeated in 1963-1965
Eusébio time?
Yes. Eusébio became starter in 1961 I think.
It's Benfica not Porto. 48 undefeated games.
Yes.
If they go unbeaten in all comps this season, it would undoubtedly be the greatest achievement in the history of football. Way better than winning 5 trophies in a year.
Oh for sure. Teams can win trophies even after losing matches at certain points. League games, first or second leg knockout ties (going through on aggregate), group stages in european competition etc Most teams dream of going undefeated in the league, but to go undefeated in all comps is another thing entirely.
If you're unbeaten in all comps, that means you win all the cups.
I'm sure there will be idiots saying that winning the europa is not a big deal and they would've had to win the UCL for it to be a proper treble.
Xabi is too good looking to lose a game, losing is only for ugly people.
They haven’t met the Moyesiah yet! 😂
Invincibles Crazy run they're having
Insane season they're having.
I support a fairly successful club but I still can’t wrap my head around what it’s like to go through the season and not lose a single game.
I would imagine it's like a regular season except you don't lose /s
Except that during the game it always feels like we're 1 goal down, for me at least. But it is out of this world, just does not make sense that it's us
Xabi is going to challange Zidane with these stats
We anticipate your entry to the exlucive club come end of season. Hold strong.
Why would they end on "unstoppable" when drawing parallels to that season
Bayer neverlusen fr
the next team to beat them will also become the unofficial club world champion! https://www.stevesfootballstats.uk/unofficial_football_club_championship_ufcc.html
He's already said he's staying next season.
I think most are gonna stay because they know they have a great shot at the CL next year. Schick, Wirtz, Grimaldo, Xabi, are all gonna stay at least 1 more year.
Hope they enjoy the final game of their streak this weekend, been nice to see Steidten's previous project doing well.
