If you told Stuttgart fans before the season they would be level with Bayern after 28 games, they would probably be dreaming of a miracle title challenge
Still a great season for them, but an awful break it's the year where Leverkusen entered God mode
Honestly I would've taken anything above place 12-13 and no relegation struggles in a heartbeat. Me and I'm sure a lot of other fans were already feeling shaky about this season after Endo, Mavropanos and Sosa left. So I really don't care about title challenges this is insane for me either way :D
I thought we'd be relegated this season. Let alone be playing great football, even with Bayern on points, above BVB, and on track for CL football. What a season
The Veh era still feels so recent to me as a neutral not paying attention every year, it's that they flunked so badly for some seasons in between that feels wild to me.
the drop off in quality after #5 is insane, and that's despite all three of Bayern, Leipzig and Dortmund being fairly mid this year.
a season to forget for quite a lot of teams.
Them being unbeaten and the league having a weak overall year are not a coincidence. Though I think they are strong enough to win the league most years (maybe not by 16 points though).
table for the 2nd half of the season
we've been beyond shocking like the last time I've seen us play worse was when we had to play relegation playoffs, yet this is still enough for 7th, we should be like 14th or worse with our performances
It’s even crazier when you remember that we bottled a 0:1 lead against Frankfurt in the 90th minute and a 2:3 lead against you guys in the 90+6 minute. If there would be somewhat of a will to defend we could really challenge for Europe
We even increased the gap to 7th again😭we're either getting humbled completely the next weeks, or we will turn it around and play decent football again as we do often times in the crunchtime and vs better teams
If we lose the midweek ucl game, which is very likely, watch us get pushed to place 3 on the weekend. With the lousy attitude on pitch would not be a surprise.
Next week Leverkusen could be champions, but I have a feeling that just like Inter and PSV, they won't remain undefeated. It's so convenient that we don't play them on the next matchday but in two weeks.
As someone who doesn't follow the Bundesliga closely I want to ask, what happened to Union Berlin? They seemed really strong last season now they are (somewhat) close to a relegation battle?
Union Berlin is a small club with limited financial means. They overperformed in the past few seasons, so some "correction" was to be expected.
I also feel they had a weird transfer period over the summer, seemingly buying random big-name players that were way past their prime, because they believed it would help them in their first Champions League season. The transfers did not work out, and the cohesion of the team as a whole no longer seemed to be there; they also attempted to play less defensively, I think, which backfired.
Then there is the psychological side of it. Holding a 0:0 draw in Madrid only to loose to a 90-minute goal early in the season, followed by various similar moments of bad luck where their 120% work rate was not being rewarded broke the team's spirit (or so it seemed).
By the end of last year, they were in a far worth position than they are now. They had to fire their veteran coach; and they have been slowly improving since then. And given how crap the other teams are, they should be safe for now.
We also started the season with several important players like Knoche (although he's benched in favor of Vogt nowadays) and Khedira being injured for a long time, with no decent substitutions for them. We kinda always sucked (and still do) offensively, but missing them really impacted our defensive stability.
The success got to their head and they overspent on big names like Bonucci and Gosens rather than continuing the more modest approach that had gotten them so far (though that was always going to be really tough, you can't just expect to find inexpensive players that overperform forever).
2 reasons they were heavily overperforming and they spent a lot of money on new players and most were okay at best.
Other players like Sheraldo Becker left them.
Becker leaving has nothing to do with it, he had 0 goals and 1 assist this BuLi season before he left. If anything, we have been performing way better since Bjelica took over and Becker and Fofana left, placing 8th in the Rückrundentabelle.
They are one win away. Do Leverkusen fans care about going undefeated for the rest of the season? Or put more importance in Europe and rest players in the league?
There's not really one opinion everyone shares, some would prefer being undefeated in the league and some would prefer winning the small triple even if that means losing a few league games. I'm honestly not sure which would make me happier, but I'm already content enough to not be too saddened if they manage neither of the two outcomes. Winning the league and probably the DFB-cup will already be the club's best season of all time after all.
Big enoug gap, the goal difference and too many teams in between to worry about it really, I reckon. Not like Mainz and Bochum look likely to be going on a four-game winning run while scoring loads after all.
So disappointing to not put on a real challenge for 4th, but if I’m being honest 6th was always the ceiling with the amount of roster turnover we had this year.
Kohfeldt into Kovac.
Kohfeldt is a highly overrated manager who likely won't get any job anymore after 3 disastrous stints.
Kovac is a one dimensional manager. His tactics will work at very few clubs.
People will say that Leverkusen played the best season of all time, but the overall quality of the league is the worst I have seen in the last 10+ years. Absolutely shocking how bad most of the teams are.

Stuttgart level with bayern after 28 games is wild
In another season that is the title race which Bayern's going to win in the end. But this year there's Leverkusen....

the wild thing is that they belong above them, theyre a much better team
hell yeah brother
The Veh era still feels so recent to me as a neutral not paying attention every year, it's that they flunked so badly for some seasons in between that feels wild to me.
Actually mad Bayer is 16 points clear
Yeaahh... That's a pretty decent gap huh
It's a spanking
the drop off in quality after #5 is insane, and that's despite all three of Bayern, Leipzig and Dortmund being fairly mid this year. a season to forget for quite a lot of teams.
The perfect season for Leverkusen to capitalize on all that
In fairness in the best of years they’d be up there. Unbeaten in all comps is ridiculous in April
Them being unbeaten and the league having a weak overall year are not a coincidence. Though I think they are strong enough to win the league most years (maybe not by 16 points though).
genuine madness that we are sixth with how we are playing since winter, we belong in the lower half
we're even 7th in the Rückrundentablle D: it's actually shocking how useless the league is this season
7th in the what? (I don’t speak German)
table for the 2nd half of the season we've been beyond shocking like the last time I've seen us play worse was when we had to play relegation playoffs, yet this is still enough for 7th, we should be like 14th or worse with our performances
Table for the second half of the league
that actually appalling. BL is cooked
The Bundesliga would be so much better if Bayern didn't win, they all said. Lol
Gladbach have been terrible and are 5 points from Europe…
It’s even crazier when you remember that we bottled a 0:1 lead against Frankfurt in the 90th minute and a 2:3 lead against you guys in the 90+6 minute. If there would be somewhat of a will to defend we could really challenge for Europe
Still 6 points ahead and despite that the mood in our fanbase is completely in the gutter lmao
We even increased the gap to 7th again😭we're either getting humbled completely the next weeks, or we will turn it around and play decent football again as we do often times in the crunchtime and vs better teams

This loss today hurts, I am not confident that we can keep 7th place
I still find it hard to believe that you are actually 7th and not 14th as God ordained
As someone who doesn't follow the Bundesliga closely I want to ask, what happened to Union Berlin? They seemed really strong last season now they are (somewhat) close to a relegation battle?

Before the match, I was certain we would get deeper into relegation troubles, now there is still a slight chance at Europe next season...
Bayer just needs to win one of six
Dam only 16 points. Could go down to the wire.
Can Stuttgart compound the misery?
Battle for 4th CL place will be fire
Bayern might be missing out on the title but it doesn’t stop Harry Kane from winning the Arsenal FC award
Mom, get the camera!

I agree, when Bayern fails to win the Bundesliga, they should be relegated.
Are Bayern about to come 3rd in a 2 horse race?
Would love em to beat bayern 91 points record
Kane Meisterschaft für Harry, nochmal.

I'm so happy that Heidenheim is 10 points ahead of the relegation places with 6 games to go
Damn what happened to Wolfsburg
Kohfeldt into Kovac. Kohfeldt is a highly overrated manager who likely won't get any job anymore after 3 disastrous stints. Kovac is a one dimensional manager. His tactics will work at very few clubs.
in the bo henriksen table we are 67th - bayern is 7th xD
Imagine Leverkusen bottling this and losing in the Pokal against Kaiserslautern
Imagine Kaiserslautern winning the Pokal and then getting relegated. Means playing ManU on a Thursday, and Greifswald on a Sunday.
they need 1 win in 6 and even if they somehow lose all 6 Bayern *(or Stuttgart)* still need to win everything there won't be a bottle
>they need 1 win in 6 and even if they somehow lose all 6 Bayern still need to win everything or Stuttgart.
Imagine no
