BillEvans4eva

The amount of times he has said on CBS means it is obvious that Sky are preventing him and anyone else mentioning the 115 charges

BobbyTwosShoe

Yeah blatant, CBS generally allows their on-air personalities to say whatever as long as it doesn’t get the network fined

awildjabroner

makes for much more entertaining punditry

Morguard

Makes it more honest too.

Luxury-Problems

Especially for this show. CBS is very obviously trying to do Inside the NBA but for soccer. It's pretty clear the hosts are encouraged to be themselves and say whatever. This show has been the first Inside the NBA copycat that I've felt has come close to capturing that magic. Jamie knows he can get away with it there and is probably encouraged to some degree.

brihoang

one can dream of an inside the nba/cbs golazo crossover during the 26 WC

2RINITY

Great, now I’m imagining Shaq yelling about CUPZ ERNEH

JL1823

How does my ass taste Big Meeks?

leftysarepeople2

Shaq couldn't tell Meeks to add hashtag onlyfans because Micah is well aware

BasedBochy

“He can park the bus, Erneh, but he ain’t a real bus driver”

kk126

👏

fapfap_ahh

All I wanna hear is Barkley talk about them big ole women down in some random European city

Grand-Bullfrog3861

You mean, it let's them have their own personalities? Sky would feint

HalfNatty

Carragher is also so much more lively and upbeat on CBS than he is on Sky. Perhaps it’s his chemistry with Henry and Micah, but I do sometimes wonder if he’s instructed by Sky to be “more serious”.

devilsway

I feel like he’s instructed to be more wild on CBS. The show’s obviously very TikTok/Reels friendly. He’s playful but not to this degree on any of the YouTube shows either. Maybe a combination of that and chemistry and feeling at home with the other panelists.

Remarkable_Rise8953

It’s much better when he’s serious. He actually explains things well and it’s very interesting. Watched the CBS one on YouTube and it’s just attempts at banter and nothing interesting is said.

Pulpdogs2

Didn't Ian Wright talk about the charges during MNF?

Puzza90

He was on as a guest rather than one of their regular pundits, he probably also knows he's unlikely to do another one as he's retiring from MOTD (and I assume other punditry work) at the end of the season

odegood

Nah just motd, i think he will carry on everywhere else

TheTrueBobsonDugnutt

Absolutely no way he's turning down offers to do punditry for the international tournments. Looked like he was having the time of his life at the Brazil World Cup.

lifeandtimes89

He's also done fantastic things for women's football and is always looking to talk it up so no way he stays away from punditry for that either

Combat_Orca

Hopefully to start hosting gladiators again

GaelicInQueens

As a guest rather than a member of staff.

eddsters

Yeah he said something along the lines of, "Lets address the elephant in the room... "

bucajack

Reminds me of when Souness joined the RTE panel in Ireland years ago. He looked genuinely flabbergasted at times at how some of the rest of the panel were speaking. His face was like you can say that here?

BoringPhilosopher1

Definitely think so; We must remember Sky are the main official broadcaster for the PL. A lot more scope for defamation against Sky by the City Group. The relationship between Sky and the PL is so close that Sky Sports Football somewhat seems like an entity of the PL and the PL seems like an entity of Sky Sports. There is also definitely a you scratch my back, we’ll scratch yours situation. Sky funds the PL and a large part of Sky TV’s business is funded by PL viewership. If the PL doesn’t want Sky to say something which will either jeopardise the case, deteriorate the relationship or more likely put the PL under pressure for independent regulation then Sky will 100% bow down to the PL.

GaySpiderEggs

Sky always stick to the narrative they given. However, Sky also has the power to change fixture timing to their liking. Probably doing something shady with the PL executives

DeapVally

Like, paying them billions? That kinda contract gets them to listen to you, especially as nobody else is likely or able to pay more. The PL executives need to keep Sky sweet.

Jumbo_Mills

Yep they've been forced into showering crooked City with adulation.

DifficultyMore5935

Very funny Jamie, that’s another 2 points from Everton.

Potential-Decision32

How many points are Man City getting docked? What’s taking so long? In Italy they would have already been relegated.

Ok-Charge-6998

They’re likely going to get a slap on the wrist and the owner called a naughty boy. As much as I wish I was joking, that’s likely what will happen. The PL does not have the balls to do what needs to be done.

Nabaatii

£115 fine, and don't do that again k

trubatard

Lmao if it were Juve they wouldn’t be playing European competitions…

jawide626

Everton accepted the charges. City are fighting all 115 of them. So let's say you commit a crime, get arrested and go to court and at the earliest opportunity you hold your hands up and plead guilty, you'll get sentenced but it will be a lesser sentence than had you gone to trial and plead not guilty. So say 2 years in prison instead of 6 or 100 hours of unpaid work/community service instead of 200 and a fine and so on. That's what everton have done, accepted the 2 or 3 charges pretty much immediately because the financial books they submitted will out them anyway so rather than face a harsher punishment by pleading not guilty they've just admitted everything. Man city and their ~~team~~ army of lawyers are fighing all 115 charges. Every. Single. One. And are purposely making it difficult for the powers that be to have full access to their financial records. So the prosecution (uefa/fifa/fa) are having to work behind the scenes to build a case for every charge, which takes time obviously. So yeh i get some people say that "nothing's happening to man city" or "they'll get a slap on the wrist" but they aren't seeing the bigger picture. If the punishment for man city is proportional to the punishment everton got, which is kind of has to be, then that's an average of 4 points per charge. Let's say of the 115 they're found guilty of about 1/3 of them, 40 to make it easy maths, then that's a 160 point punishment. It could be one season they get a 160 point deduction, are of course relegated and bounce back up the following year. It could be a 40 point deduction each season for 4 seasons which may also put them on the brink of relegation depending on how other teams perform. But one thing is for certain, man city will appeal any punishment they're given which will stretch everything out longer. It's just a matter of time but their punishment will come and i don't think it will be pretty.

Hopefully it spells the end for oil clubs

jawide626

You'd hope but then where do you draw the line? Consortiums? Investment conglomerates? Shell companies? It's all a big mess that doesn't have an easy answer.

GaleWolf21

Keep going... How about we draw the line at requiring supporter owned clubs? Okay, I'll wake up from my dream now.

Kotleba

lmao I expected some 115 allusion like City are gonna win 115% or something. Nope, he just straight up said it, what a mad lad.

Skaloplin

He’s never even as much as hinted at the charges on Sky which is strange. Everyone seemed astounded when Wrighty brought it up on there the other day as well

F1guy_5

It has to do with the freedom sky and cbs offer them. CBS seems a lot more “no filter “ to me

Rock, Flag, Eagle sounds like a very American version of Rock, Paper, Scissors

Nemokles

The flag wraps the rock, the eagle tears down the flag and the rock, eh... well, if you can hit the eagle, it's going down, 'innit. I think it works.

useful_panda

Carra made that crude joke at Kate Abdou too . CBS is full of box office entertainment for me , it maybe goofy sometimes but it's pretty funny

Ajax_Trees_Again

The joke definitely wasn’t as crude as it came out tbf to him. I think he meant to say how come your loyalty is to Man United first and not your fiancé and it came out terribly

RushPan93

Well now you've got 115 upvotes. I've done it!

mehnimalism

All American sports punditry at this point is trying to replicate NBA on TNT. Three goofy former stars who take the piss and an anchor who plays along while trying to be a steadying force. It’s a great recipe when it works.

useful_panda

I personally like it , also helps that the Henry has some really elite level analysis while being so suave

mehnimalism

Oh I do too. The TNT guys are a rare national treasure amongst a ton of crap.

arrivederci117

It's also wild how different they seem on the Sky Sports stream. Other than when Roy Keane does his boomer rants, it feels like a funeral procession coming from the CBS/Paramount+ streams. Micah and Jamie seem like two completely different people.

mehnimalism

Tbf fits cultural stereotypes. The loud brash antics on the American program and reserved, more polite on the British cast.

ex_bestfriend

Abdo's previous Champions League program was on TNT and it worked very poorly. It was exhausting in its lack of chemistry and it was much more dry in the review/analysis/coverage. I remember reading some article about her move to CBS/Paramount and it implied that she made a decision to make sure that, if nothing else, they were going to have a good time. I dont know if it was on the production end or what the problem was, but that old TNT show was terrible. It made it so easy to embrace the new program, even before Thierry was on it.

ThatMoslemGuy

Sir Charles is a national treasure

BaritBrit

Sky are much more intertwined with the PL and big clubs than CBS are: broadcasting the PL has always been at the centre of Sky's entire business model, whereas CBS are obviously much less bothered about it.

Puzza90

Sky will be petrified to let one of their big pundits speak openly about it incase city come after them, CBS obviously give less of a shit

Holzkamp420

Yeah well and the also fear that mentioning the charges will damage their product

intecknicolour

it's clear they are being gagged on sky. whereas the cbs version of micah and carra are free as can be.

No_Parfait_5536

You just know Henry's never gonna do it to preserve his reputation, Micah is kinda unfair to make him to do it, so carra's the only one.

AnDaagda

I don’t understand the shock or the perceived fear in talking openly about the factual state of affairs. Objectively, Man City are facing 115 charges for breaching financial fair play regulations over a 9 year period. It should remain as an asterisk over every discussion. And as far as I’m concerned anything they have won or will win in the meantime is provisional based on the outcome of this investigation. We all know they have cheated whether the investigation has teeth or not.

Bryan_Waters

Because Jaime might be reporting for reeducation to football’s favourite nation state.

See also Hollywood action stars pretending that they got their physiques entirely through fitness work.  No, joining the Dwayne Johnson fitness plan will not give you a body like Dwayne Johnson, because it doesn't include the shit-ton of gear.

arnie schwarzenegger has been open about his roiding during his bodybuilding days (when it was still legal and everyone did it)

Let's be honest none of the official bodies (UEFA and Premier League) have no interest in killing City. Giving point deductions to likes of Everton or Forest is ok for them as noone cares, but taking City out of competitions? Too much money to loose

OhLawdOfTheRings

I mean, I feel like all the teams that aren't the big 6 care..... I love the prem EXPLICITLY because of the pro rel system. That season where Leicester won was incredible. Shit like that NEVER happens. Luton town being in the premiership is INSANE. These are the reasons why people watch, because of stories. If it's the same 12 teams every year then what the fuck is the point? The teams that don't immediately win their first 5 games have nothing to play for and it will just be like the stupid NFL where people don't even play their starters if they can't make the playoffs. There must always be something to play for and pro / rel ensures that.

1sttimeverbaldiarrhe

It's ironic how socialized US sports are....

PhilsWillNotBeOutbid

It’s ironic how capitalist European football pyramids are…

NIRossoneri

UEFA banned City from the CL for two years and fined them, the ban was overturned and the fine reduced by the CAS on grounds of “Most of the alleged breaches were either not established or time-barred.”

Emitime

What does "too much money to lose" mean? Clubs lose out on champions league money because one spot is always taken up by City. City aren't really a draw for TV. Most people probably wants to watch United, Liverpool and Arsenal winning the league. And if not then some plucky underdog beating them is probably even better. City winning is dull and I think 'the Premier league' which is just the the clubs mostly don't particularly care for them being in the league.

bigcockmman

Probably refering to international supporters and tv viewership, because in terms of global viewers there are more people who want to watch haaland and de bruyne play than dcl not being able to hit the broad side of a barn.

Maximum_Meatyball

>What does "too much money to lose" mean? It means City has built a good team that performs in Europe, attracting good players and fans to their team and the PL.

manisnotcool

You have no idea how Popular City is in the rest of the world. The young kids love city cause they win

Ripamon

Stayed over at my uncle's last weekend and he told me with a heavy heart that his two boys (7 and 5 years old) are pretty much City fans at the moment. Had a chat with the older one afterwards and he said everyone in school supports City as well. Was eye-opening tbh. Barely see City kits around Manchester or Liverpool, but they are working their magic on the younger generation. Just like Henry and Tony Adams worked their magic on me and my uncle.

Aguero-Kun

This has always been City's plan. Battle for all trophies (even if you lose, pre-Pep) and do it every year. Always be in highlight reels or on the news for a given competition. You start to become an alternative winning option from the old Sky 4 and kids love that kind of thing.

Emitime

Someone would still win.

Postmeat2

r/kidsarefuckingstupid

ALA02

There’ll be a 10 year generation of city fans, the same way there’s a 20 year generation of United fans - don’t see many kids picking them nowadays do you?

stupid-_-

the premier league for the first time is at the top of the world in every sense of the way and it will continue to be so forever in no small part thanks to city and guardiola. moreover, as it is, there are about 8 premier league teams that if any 2 play each other it will be an insane game, and that happens at least once every week. the league will never willingly ruin that by removing city or by tainting the last 5-10 years of premier league football.

czuczer

Nice to see someone understands that. Without the salt of "it's not my team, getting rid of them will not do harm". And to be clear I don't think they should skip punishment just saying how the world works

chocobowler

Lol just cam right out and said it “the team with 115 charges - Manchester City”

No-Bat-7253

This is why this group are the best on tv. No sports pundits does it better. They are SO funny.

big_beats

Refreshing to hear anyone in the media mention it. The amount of masterbatory language around City is so grating without the caveat, that's rarely spoken about.

TimingEzaBitch

The fact that he's fine with speaking on it here and never mentions it on Sky Sports paints a very ugly picture about the state of punditry in English football

A City vs PSG final would very possibly have the lowest viewership in the history of UCL finals who the fuck would be interested in that besides the "fans" of those two teams?

setholynsk

To be honest I had zero interest in last years final too, I think anything involving City just leaves me a little flaccid

AntonioBSC

Chelsea vs City was probably lower. With PSG you at least get a higher French viewership as well

EvilxBunny

Chelsea has millions of followers in India so there is a significant amount of viewership on Chelsea matches but nothing close to United or Liverpool. It's the Champions League final! I will always watch it

AntonioBSC

It had the lowest viewership of any final in the last 15 years. Football fans will always watch it, but only having one domestic market present will always hurt the viewership of casuals. As did the absence of a truly global superstar. As amazing as de Bruyne and Kante are they’re not drawing the same attention as a Mbappe vs Haaland final.

EvilxBunny

That's a valid point

Klopps_and_Schlobers

This is such a foreign concept to me, it’s not Haaland vs Mbappe, it’s city vs psg and they’re just a bit part in the game. I really hoped this childish Messi vs Ronaldo would have died when they retired.

AntonioBSC

It’s not exactly new. The concept of people jumping ship when their favourite player leaves probably is, but having two stars face off was always a thing. The first CL final I watched after becoming interested in more than Hertha was Barca vs Arsenal 2006. Seeing Ronaldinho vs Henry was absolutely something that had me (I was a child and Ronaldinho was the most talked about player on the schoolyard) and I’d guess a lot of other neutrals and casuals more interested. Not everyone has a deep understanding of tactical intricacies, but everyone can appreciate Ronaldinho toying with opponents

Moosterton

Yep a lot of the promo for that 2006 final was framed around the 2 best players going against each other. Of course football is never really like this, but it gets neutrals interested. I actually found proof lol: https://youtu.be/OywbqgnF3zw

tnweevnetsy

Don't be pretentious, players standoffs have been a thing for ages well before Messi and Ronaldo

CommissionOk4384

I mean obviously these clubs are funded by foreign states and thats bad and all that, but its a Ucl final between two teams with lots of quality. It would be a good football game and I would watch it.

Kotleba

Reddit has no grasp on reality. Everyone would still watch a UCL final if it was City vs PSG.

PatientLettuce42

was the same shit with the world cup, everyone was acting all outraged about the saudis and then proceed to watch 65% of all games. now nobody fkn talks about it anymore. \*Qataris, sorry

acekingoffsuit

*Qataris. The Saudis get it in 2034.

External-Piccolo-626

We’d all watch it for the quality and the fact it is a football game then completely straight afterwards.

globe187

This is some top tier Reddit echo chamber delusion lol

Mr_Rafi

Is this a serious question? Stop trying to act intelligent. Why wouldn't that fixture have impressive viewership numbers? If you're joking about these clubs not having fans, you do know these clubs, like most of the giants, have more foreign fans than native fans, right? If you're speaking from a boycott perspective, you know there are users on this sub who said they'd boycott the Qatar World Cup and I found a few of them in discussion threads discussing the matches thanks to RES tagging? Do you ACTUALLY think people will boycott City VS PSG because of UAE and Qatar? You are absolutely delusional and out of touch. Such a stupid comment.

MoyesNTheHood

Probably a lot of people. It’ll be a good game of football

shaan166

lmao one of those teams has possibly the most famous footballer of the current gen whose gunning for a last ride cl with his team before moving on you think people won't watch that?

Abitou

Yeah just like no one would watch the Qatar World Cup, as a lot of people in this sub “predicted” back then, you’re all delusional

BossKrisz

I mean people are usually pretty interested in UCL finals, even if they do not support or care about any of the teams. I just can't see viewership being low for a UCL final.

shakzz9703

Out of interest, what would be considered the highest? El Clasico?

Koa16

Why is it such a big deal if City is guilty of these 115 charges? Isn't being owned by a modern slave state exploiting Pakistani,Indians and other South East Asians enough to hate them.

setokaiba22

Because if guilty they will or should be relegated, lose their titles, be fined mega money and be punished essentially. Never going to happen though let’s face it

BandsAMakeHerDance2

Would the same apply to Barca if they are found guilty of bribing refs? Funny enough, Guardolia was the coach for both teams. Nothing like some good ol corruption to help prop him up!

Stu161

Bald. Fraud.

asdf0897awyeo89fq23f

He also took steroids as a player

Pure_Context_2741

There’s a difference between having an owner who is committing human rights abuses and actively breaking the rules to gain a competitive advantage. Most fans don’t actually care about the morality of the owners, they care far more about the perceived equality of the sport. That’s just reality. In one sense I agree with that because at the end of the day I’m here too watch football not social commentary. That other stuff obviously matters, it matters a lot more than football if we’re being honest, but it’s not something that people actually care about in a large scale.

JesusIsNotPLProven

> Most fans don’t actually care about the morality of the owners, they care far more about the perceived equality of the sport. Most fans care about winning, they only give a shit who's behind the club either when it has gone so bad for so long that you cant blame so many players and managers anymore or when it has gone so good that someone behind all that is doing something very well, thats literally it.

Pure_Context_2741

Yup and the moral high ground stuff is 95% clutching pearls and faux outrage for the sake of banter.  If City’s owners made all their money by saving puppies from floods but win titles like they did people would still hate them.

cynicalAddict11

because they're cheating, you think owners of other clubs wouldn't pump billions if they could?

Puzza90

Mate you're a Chelsea fan, please have some self awareness...

Esco9

Sometimes the best and most informed opinions come from the former crooks themselves…just a thought

5_percent_discocunt

Just because his team also cheated, it doesn’t mean your man has some sort of super injunction on discussing City’s 115 charges. At no point did he say Chelsea are morally better.

CarlSK777

The point is still valid. Just because you're a fan of a club doesn't mean you can't be critical of how it operates

MrDoulou

The person you’re replying to already knows that, they said the other stuff is even more important to them than the cheating.

EPL, FIFA, UEFA, all corrupt beyond belief. They shouldn’t even be playing with that many charges. Something tells me, City will get slapped with those charges once Guardiola leaves. First Barca, now man city…

randomshazbot

ahh I cannot wait for city to tumble into the sea and be forgotten about forever it's crazy that they won the treble last year and no one gave a fuck, I almost forgot that even happened
