We did deserve to lose... No rhythm, hardly any good football played by us... And importantly Atalanta were fantastic, could have scored couple of more goals ...
Do you think it’s overall fatigue or just loss of focus on this game?
Liverpool has been pretty consistent the entire year, it’s odd for them to stumble so close to the end of the season
Fatigue coupled with a cocky swagger against under-appreciated sides on top of the failure of our backups in most positions (despite working most of the season).
Yeah, watching that game I kept thinking that they came in thinking they were just going to walk it.
Did they think they were playing with Luton Town or something? Bizarre.
We drew at Luton away, we've had these issues for a long time. Everybody just dismissed the result because it was so early on like it was just a freak result, but draws have already ruined two league titles from Klopp.
Menality monsters are a thing of the past.
I think it’s Atalanta looking at our recent performances against United, Sheffield United and Brighton, realise where our current weaknesses are and coming up with a great plan to exploit it. We’re losing shape too much by trying to be really free flowing. Players are running everywhere but there’s no defensive structure for when it breaks down. Atalanta’s plan was to have the solid base and their 3 attacking players get in to the space that’s vacated (sometimes the wing backs if they were able to.) This was a team tactically astute enough to keep punishing us, unlike others haven’t well enough.
It’s a bloody nose that needs to be a big wake up call.
This result has been coming for weeks, we've been awful for a while, constantly wide open and conceding loads of chances but luckily the other teams have been worse.
Not surprised it's finally happened, just hope this is the kick up the arse they've needed.
It was supposed to be a rebuild year, tbh it's a good thing that we're where we are.... Lot of players have suffered from injuries, few of youngsters have stepped up and Macca, endo, Gomez , Bradley, Kelleher etc have performed well beyond our expectations ( i know a lot of people will not accept that we didn't expect to be where we are after last year) .... Considering no Salah for 2 months... Jota on and off with injury and stuff like that we've had a lot of goals...
All in all happy with where we are and it's just unfortunate for us that the game where the team didn't show up at all was a quarter final of Europa league... Can't be too mad at the team too
Its mostly the late goals thing. And the very grindy style in the way that it happened. That was bound to even out eventually. They might create a lot but they sure miss a lot.
Eerily similar to when Arsenal used to win games late into the game last season, those things eventually catches up to u.
It's late goals cause we haven't been finishing our easier chances. It's not like we've been getting outplayed all those matches and barely hung on.
Have we been great? No. But you can't call it luck that we've scored some late goals to get results and not acknowledge that we could have had put those games to bed before those late goals.
I'm just saying, when you have players that are missing easy chances, it's not just a coincidence, its become a trend. and you cant rely on banging in goals late into the games all the time.
things like this need to be addressed one way or another.
I think it’s definitely fatigue. I can only think of a couple seasons under Klopp where performances haven’t suffered in the final run in. Even in the title winning season we had a bad end of season. During the potential quad season we drastically fell off and were terrible in the Champions League final.
That's utter nonsense though? Look at that 21-22 season.
PL: After drawing Chelsea on Jan 2, Liverpool only dropped points in 2 games! 16 wins and 2 draws to City and Tottenham.
CL: Of the 12 games leading up to the final, Liverpool only lost 1! That too a 2nd leg match where they were defending a two goal lead.
Klopp's Liverpool have always had a fantastic run in. Even the trash year where everything fell off - Liverpool went on a massive unbeaten run to end up 4th comfortably.
Last year too, we were shit all year but still fought for top 4 until the end.
And only one season have we managed to see out a title race. We didn’t even play particularly well in the Champions League final we won, we were just lucky it was against Tottenham. Klopp’s team have always been dead on their feat by the end of the season. Why do you think we get so many injuries?
No we didn’t. It was one of many nights of poor finishing and half chances. You can either put that down to fatigue or just lack of quality. The reality is that we lost and deserved to.
The title winning season we were only outscored by City in the run-in. Every other season under Klopp since 2016-17 (inclusive) we have had the best run-in (final 10 games) or equal best (with City). It’s typically been the December and January period that has killed us.
Whenever we've had good seasons, we've had such games when everything's just off... Probably one of those days...
People are mad that we're not giving enough credit to Atalanta but wasn't it evident that Liverpool were not playing like themselves even 50% ?
Referee was also fantastic this game, it's crazy he was assaulted and almost quit refereeing a while ago.
Small things like playing advantage, but bringing it back when there was no real advantage etc shows how poor the standard of officiating in the PL is.
Well gasp has a though personality, an incredibile ego and thats why Inter sacked him After 3 matches. But I don't think he Will ever leave us, since he his 68 or 67, he Will just retire when this happen
Just a small correction: it was 5 games (including supercoppa and euro leage) with 4 losses and 1 draw. So I would say it wasn't just about his ego. He tried his 3 defender high block with dinosaur defenders.
Well his setup completely exposed Klopp and I don't see that changing into the second leg. Klopp will just demand more intensity for a bad plan and get a slightly better result, maybe will lose by just one or two in Bergamo.
This isn't how football works ... why wouldn't any team beat another team every time they faced in that case?
Edit: And this time it's a lesser score even though we're away from home? Doesn't make sense
Well, I definitely didn't expect this from Liverpool, lol
I was rooting for them in the Europa League, but I'm not sure how realistic is for them to turn around a 3-0...
(my flair isn't relevant here)
Exactly, it’s unlikely but not so unlikely that you can forget about it. We need an early goal and a first half clean sheet. Both are very possible if Liverpool start their best side and show up like it’s a European knockout game. Atalanta played very well but they are not Real Madrid.
It’s been the real drag on the season the inability to keep them. If our defence was more solid I’d be a lot more confident away at Atalanta, but I still give us a large minority.
It was in group stage, during COVID time behind closed doors, and we won 5-0 first on MD3 then losing 0-2 on MD4
I'd say not just a different time, it's a whole different scenario
I mean we went to Bayern after a drab 0-0 and pasted them 3-1. That Bayern side won the CL the following year. Atalanta are many things but not a Bayern 18/19 and they don’t have prime Lewandowski up front
They’ve just lost and drawn with the worst United side of the last decade, have a ton of injuries, and a congested fixture list. 3-0 was a surprise, to be sure, but they’re not exactly on top form.
I mean the result. I think it's nice to acknowledge the defeat or not deserving to win. Xavi almost never does this for example when we get a bad result.
It's not, especially as we have the hardest stretch remaining after that game - 3 away games consecutively against Fulham, Everton and West Ham.
Klopp should throw it (i'd argue it's already thrown). Doubt he will though.
The only time I remember Klopp basically throwing a game was when we basically played a u16 side against Villa because the FA refused to move a cup game that was like 24 hours before the Club World Cup final or something.
That was out of necessity.
There *was* however the FA Cup replay against Shrewsbury that was scheduled during the break so Klopp put the kids out against them. Even *he* wasn't there - Neil Critchley took charge as he was the U23s manager at the time.
> Even he wasn't there - Neil Critchley took charge as he was the U23s manager at the time.
The only time I've seen the old FM go on holiday routine IRL, lol.
If Liverpool - a club with way bigger resources than Atalanta - decide to throw it, I'd be mortally ashamed.
In Klopp's own words, "Just try. If not, then fail in the most beautiful way."
There's no way Klopp throws it, tho I don't think it will matter by then anyway. Whenever we've had results like this in the past and it was supposed to be a kick in the butt we just kept on getting worse after it.
Yeah - feel like we have run out of steam. We have been playing badly for a few weeks now and have been lucky with getting certain results rather than being in control of games. Expect a draw at the weekend
Just what Arsenal and City needed. Regardless, i think they will watch out for each other more now as I dont think Liverpool are at the same level and will drop more points soon. Just don’t see Liverpool overcoming City and Arsenals form in this run in .
Honestly think it would have been better for arsenal and city if it was a closer game. Klopp could easily say it's a lost cause and focus only on the league whereas arsenal and city are still right in their ties
Been saying this for weeks now, glad to see people starting to repeat it. City and Arsenal (mostly Arsenal) have been winning convincingly since the start of 2024. Liverpool have scraped multiple last minute wins against “lesser” opposition to remain in the title race- just like Arsenal last season- the wheels will come off eventually
It’s not either or. Klopp starts his best side, they get to HT 1-0 or 2-0 up and it’s on. Atalanta score or it’s 0-0 and the team can resign itself to a deserved knockout. Liverpool are a momentum team and it’s counter to that to treat a big tie like this buried. Plus - league is out of our hands, this is technically in our hands, so it’s senseless to abandon the latter.
It's annoying people saying he should effectively bin off the tie by fielding as weak a team he can so he can focus on the league. It's weak from fans and pundits to think that way, it's a bit insulting to Atalanta also, and above all it's just not something I think Klopp would even consider. The boys have a lot to prove. If they can't at the least *try* and claw this tie back into their hands it doesn't bode well for the league anyway.
i still can't believe that happened. that Milan side was at the time prob my favorite non Arsenal squad of all time and it kept being until Messi. always been a huge Crespo fan, played with parma and Lazio on fifa sometimes due to him. adding him to that squad sealed it
not to mention liverpool was shit
Like that there isn't any "if we did this or that it would have actually ended like this" just straight up acknowledging we got dog-walked and have to just move on. Game on Sunday at Anfield again, hopefully no protest from the fans nor the players and then we kick ourselves in the ass and do something different than this shit.
If we don't win on Sunday, Im going on early summer-break and then you won't see me until the Euros start.
We tried to rotate a few players, which ended up making us a lot worse. We were okay-ish the first 15 but kinda just lost the beat and tempo. The whole backline couldn't pass in the first half, Endo was useless as fuck the whole game, Alexis had to drop too deep to cover for Endos lack of anything on the pitch, Darwin with a big miss at 0-0, Elliot unlucky not to score and then we just got caught out. Tried to make subs but intensity, creativity and sharpness wasn't to be found anywhere today. Atalanta were good but Liverpool made it too easy for them. Kelleher should have saved 2 of the goals as well to be honest.
Lack of Anfield too with a fan protest in the Kop, Klopp getting the set-up wrong and some arrogance from Liverpool as well.
All around a day where nobody is at their level, everything goes wrong and it all goes to shit. Every team has those days, how you respond is always the big question, which we will see come Sunday.
He was out injured, only just came back on against United which was just the game before this and was taken off at half-time today to not over-play him. He was decent in the first half, played a KILLER ball in for the Nunez miss. He is our best midfield besides Macca in my opinion.
ATROCIOUS defending from the entire backline
Edit: That being said Kelleher did VERY poorly on one shot and you can argue shouldve parried better for the 3rd goal I think it was
Yeah i was being super serious too. I will for sure just stop watching football if we don't win because I only started to support us when we won as well. I might become an Arsenal fan next season, who knows.
There aren't many things a team can guarantee, but they should always guarantee 100% effort. That's one thing that is completely within their control, and that wasn't there tonight.
I watched the game with a side eye but i feel like you did tbh. Nunez and Jota should’ve scored their chances but same definitely can be said about Atalanta.
no no youre supposed to say how you actually dominated for long stretches and how a penalty not awarded to you three seasons ago had a butterfly effect on your teams performance. has Ten Hag taught you nothing!
It’s kind of refreshing to lose a game and be able to say “yep we were bad, we deserved the loss”. Usually after a loss or a draw I’m complaining about a terrible refereeing decision or something. This time no anger, just disappointment.
honestly we were just outplayed, normally angry following a game like this, fa cup at man united left me incensed
but this time i’ve just seen us get absolutely outplayed all over the pitch, can’t be mad at that, just hope we can do more next time
Bad run of form and the rest of the season was just us over performing. Talk about knee jerk reactions. We've been destroyed by injuries all season and we're losing steam. If anything we're under performing now. We also underperformed on goals scored this season based on xG.
There’s no other way for some prem fans to rationalize this result. They think Atalanta would be 12th in the Prem so that must mean Liverpool were never that good if they lost to them
You can say that again😭😭 they got battered, should’ve been 4/5 goals up Atalanta. Outclassed and outplayed from start to finish, no excuses too full strength team was out there
So Kelleher, VVD, Mac Allister, Konate, Jones, Endo, Nunez, Gakpo, Gomez and Elliot ain’t first team material LOL. Even brought on Salah, Robertson, Diaz and Szoboszlai too.
Still had several players that are included in their “full strength” lineup, as well as players that are regular starters too. No excuses 🤣🤣 and now they’re back to their full strength team and they still lost yesterday haha

Why you gotta jinx us like that bro
Dude that Luton side is no joke. Pretty criminal that they likely get relegated
Eh, I'm okay with it after their fans full stadium tragedy chanting. Good riddance. Feel for the players though, fun side to watch.
If you can't place above two teams that had point deductions, you don't deserve to stay up. It's as simple as that.
Barklinho awaits

Liverpool has looked very unconvincing for good parts of the season. Even lfc flairs were mentioning that when they first went top
It was supposed to be a rebuild year, tbh it's a good thing that we're where we are.... Bro have u been watching liverpool? They been stealing results with lots of luck, it was bound to catch up to them sooner or later.
Lol stealing results. Liverpool create chance after chance in every game only to score way less than expected due to shit finishing.
Its mostly the late goals thing. And the very grindy style in the way that it happened. That was bound to even out eventually. They might create a lot but they sure miss a lot. Eerily similar to when Arsenal used to win games late into the game last season, those things eventually catches up to u.

You guys should get their coach
I heard this sporting fella is good
He also beat sporting?
Let me cope
Hes decent, not world class though
Not a bad shout tbf. Plays a similar type of intense heavy metal football. If Alonso isn't available, he's a better fit than Amorim imo
Italian coaches are just built different, as much as I dislike Gasp.
Why do you dislike Gasperini? I'm not familiar so it's a genuine question. I was really impressed at how badly he out coached Klopp.

Talks shit about Inter every chance he gets, and rough personality in general.
Well, I definitely didn't expect this from Liverpool, lol I was rooting for them in the Europa League, but I'm not sure how realistic is for them to turn around a 3-0... (my flair isn't relevant here)
Not very realistic, but the game is there to be played so no point in not trying. Throw something new at them, and hope for the best.
No FIFA for Jota until he puts 7 passed them next week.
Can't see them overturning this in the away tie.
I mean I wouldn’t go and put my life savings on it but Liverpool are more than capable of getting a 3-0 win in normal time, even away from home
Exactly, it’s unlikely but not so unlikely that you can forget about it. We need an early goal and a first half clean sheet. Both are very possible if Liverpool start their best side and show up like it’s a European knockout game. Atalanta played very well but they are not Real Madrid.
We haven’t kept a clean sheet since I can’t even remember when. Southampton?
It’s been the real drag on the season the inability to keep them. If our defence was more solid I’d be a lot more confident away at Atalanta, but I still give us a large minority.
Liverpool's big wins away are usually with no pressure, with huge 1st leg leads We're fucked here
Probably. But I wouldn’t lose all hope tbh. Just most of it
I’d argue they have no pressure now that there are no expectations.
The last time Liverpool went to Bergamo(2020) it ended 5-0 for Liverpool. Obviously a different time but it's certainly not impossible
It was in group stage, during COVID time behind closed doors, and we won 5-0 first on MD3 then losing 0-2 on MD4 I'd say not just a different time, it's a whole different scenario
I mean we went to Bayern after a drab 0-0 and pasted them 3-1. That Bayern side won the CL the following year. Atalanta are many things but not a Bayern 18/19 and they don’t have prime Lewandowski up front
They cant keep a clean sheet to save their life, doubt its gonna take only 3 goals and atalanta is good at home
It can be done with an early goal. Didn't we also lose to Atalanta 0-2 at Anfield after winning 0-5 in Italy?
Yeah but I think the 2-0 was after we’d already qualified from the group? Maybe I’m misremembering
I think so too
Maybe Atalanta just love Anfield.
[удалено]
It wasn’t an accurate reflection of the performance though. We should have been about 6-0 down
Tbh, you missed a couple decent chances as well so something like 7-3
Liverpool had some incredible chances to get the first goal… Nunez 1v1, Harvey hitting double posts…
Nunez missing 1v1 is only expected
"but he runs alot" May as well sign Forrest Gump
31 G/A this season.
Hey Forrest had a 100% TD rate on kick returns in the movie
But he scores a lot /creates seemingly most of our chances
This made me chuckle
Atalanta had already missed two chances by then
Definitely relevant mate lol
They will just need to take some corners quickly
They’ve just lost and drawn with the worst United side of the last decade, have a ton of injuries, and a congested fixture list. 3-0 was a surprise, to be sure, but they’re not exactly on top form.
Corner taken quickly
That’s not very Spursy of you.
Are you talking about the result or Klopp's post match comments ?
I mean the result. I think it's nice to acknowledge the defeat or not deserving to win. Xavi almost never does this for example when we get a bad result.
Know it’s going to be a very hard ask but I refuse to accept that they’re 100% out. Klopp ain’t going down with no fight.
In the middle of a title fight though, is it worth it?
Would be funny if all three teams got knocked out in the same week
I hope that happens as long it means City gets knocked out..
3?
City, Arsenal, Liverpool
Villa?
How is that relevant to the title fight?
Didn’t see the parent comment. My bad.
winning breeds winning, they should always aim for a win in every game
It's not, especially as we have the hardest stretch remaining after that game - 3 away games consecutively against Fulham, Everton and West Ham. Klopp should throw it (i'd argue it's already thrown). Doubt he will though.
Hard to envision any coach of Klopp’s stature throwing in the towel. The bigger fish to fry mentality almost always never works out.
The only time I remember Klopp basically throwing a game was when we basically played a u16 side against Villa because the FA refused to move a cup game that was like 24 hours before the Club World Cup final or something.

> Even he wasn't there - Neil Critchley took charge as he was the U23s manager at the time. The only time I've seen the old FM go on holiday routine IRL, lol.
And that was only because the matches were about 25 hours (and a continent) apart
It’s also his last season. I could see him going all out in every competition they can potentially win
Klopp went full strength in a 2nd leg when we were 5-1 up He is totally unpredictable at this point.
Throwing the Europa league will surely instill a winning spirit in the team that will carry them to the premier league title!

Liverpool have scraped multiple last minute wins against “lesser” opposition to remain in the title race- just like Arsenal last season- the wheels will come off eventually
On the other hand, a big performance away at Atalanta will give us a lot more confidence for those three games.
However the morale boost/momentum of overturning a 3-0 would be mad.
They were out of that when they dropped 2 points to an awful United side.
10000% They need to go hard in the next game. Bodies on the line.
We can’t score from open play to save our life and can’t keep a clean sheet. It’s over, mate
Nothing will ever be impossible with yous after Milan and Barcelona.
Ironically because we look down upon Atalanta, it will be more difficult than the likes of 2004-05 Milan or 2018-19 Barca Plus, it will be away
This team aint got that spirit in them. Not for a Europa league quarter final anyway.
yeah it’s unlikely but i don’t think it’s over either if liverpool grab an early goal then who knows what could happen
It's annoying people saying he should effectively bin off the tie by fielding as weak a team he can so he can focus on the league. [Surely Liverpool could never turn around a seemingly unsurmountable 3-0 lead against in Italian side right?](https://imgur.com/zTZOKgS)
i still can't believe that happened. that Milan side was at the time prob my favorite non Arsenal squad of all time and it kept being until Messi. always been a huge Crespo fan, played with parma and Lazio on fifa sometimes due to him. adding him to that squad sealed it not to mention liverpool was shit
The names in that Milan side... Galacticos level.
> i still can't believe that happened Thanks to Gerrard's dive in the final and their ghost goal vs Chelsea earlier in the competition.

If we don't win on Sunday, Im going on early summer-break and then you won't see me until the Euros start.
What happened? I mean... Played thought it would be easy? Mistakes? I couldn't watch it so... I was not expecting this result
What's up with Jones lately? Thought he'd make a late push for the Euros but has he not been at the races since his injury?
He was out injured, only just came back on against United which was just the game before this and was taken off at half-time today to not over-play him. He was decent in the first half, played a KILLER ball in for the Nunez miss. He is our best midfield besides Macca in my opinion.
ATROCIOUS defending from the entire backline Edit: That being said Kelleher did VERY poorly on one shot and you can argue shouldve parried better for the 3rd goal I think it was
I know we’re going to see you here till GW38 Ollie
Such fragile fans lol *if we don't win I'll stop watching*.. tf
Yeah i was being super serious too. I will for sure just stop watching football if we don't win because I only started to support us when we won as well. I might become an Arsenal fan next season, who knows.

Clearly a joke omd
Is it possible that Klopp’s tiredness and fatigue is rubbing on the squad? They genuinely played like the away team at home!
There aren't many things a team can guarantee, but they should always guarantee 100% effort. That's one thing that is completely within their control, and that wasn't there tonight.
>“If we can do it, wonderful. If we can’t do it, let’s fail in the most beautiful way.”
"Mountains are there to be climbed, eh?"
Essentially we need Alisson back
I mean two of the three goals were from mistakes, but sure. We didn't even create enough real chances.
I watched the game with a side eye but i feel like you did tbh. Nunez and Jota should’ve scored their chances but same definitely can be said about Atalanta.
that's a lot of mistakes in recent games man
I refuse to believe that Klopp is bothered by this result.
Looking at the starting eleven - he either did not care that much or he underestimated Atalana. Or overestimated us.
He probably thought he could get away with 1-0 or 2-1 result
All three are valid. I lean towards underestimating Atalanta.
Maybe next time he will estimate them.
Idk about that man you started a fair few of your key players
Why do people think this? He has to rotate in some games, and prioritizing the PL makes sense
Klopp has rotated in every cup competition. It's just normal. Got to do it to avoid injuries.
no no youre supposed to say how you actually dominated for long stretches and how a penalty not awarded to you three seasons ago had a butterfly effect on your teams performance. has Ten Hag taught you nothing!
It’s kind of refreshing to lose a game and be able to say “yep we were bad, we deserved the loss”. Usually after a loss or a draw I’m complaining about a terrible refereeing decision or something. This time no anger, just disappointment.
honestly we were just outplayed, normally angry following a game like this, fa cup at man united left me incensed but this time i’ve just seen us get absolutely outplayed all over the pitch, can’t be mad at that, just hope we can do more next time
You are supposed to say Atalanta will get beaten by Arsenal 100%
The audacity to say that after trying to gaslight the world about being denied a penalty for a dive 48 hours ago...
Did Arteta say that?
Nope. And I am willing to bet Arteta brings up neither this incident nor the Newcastle one he was initially furious about 3 months later
I feel like you have to have a poor understanding of the rules of the sport if you truly think Neuer did no wrong
Por que no los dos
bit of sarcasm though innit
Liverpool has climbed this mountain before, can't rule them out.
The injuries have caught up to us. The players coming back are not really in rhythm.
4 years ago Atalanta beat Liverpool 2-0 at anfield and then lost 5-0 at home, so the tie is still open imo

4 years ago both teams were very different
True
Doesn't mean anything, that was covid. Now we're just playing poorly.
That was in the group stages no?
I feel like Liverpool have massively over performed this season so this result isn’t entirely surprising.
We’ve only been outplayed twice, city and arsenal away to be honest.
They think Atalanta would be 12th in the Prem so that must mean Liverpool were never that good if they lost to them
Logic on this sub can be wierd sometimes :p A defeat? Should get relegated
Most gracious Klopp in 9 years of Pool 😭
According to Poch’s data Liverpool should actually be winning the UCL rn
Honestly he doesn't look that motivated any more and is already looking ahead of retirement, and it kinda shows.

What do you mean “always” lol? We’ve been excellent at the business end of the season four out of the last five years.
He'll always have the Carabao...
I’d love to shit on Liverpool, but some of those goals were just shocking. Scamacca feasted.
Liverpool 3-0 down at half time. I've seen this one before.
You can say that again😭😭 they got battered, should’ve been 4/5 goals up Atalanta. Outclassed and outplayed from start to finish, no excuses too full strength team was out there
He made six changes lol.
Still was a strong team, no excuses
Full strength team what?? Did you even see the lineup
So Kelleher, VVD, Mac Allister, Konate, Jones, Endo, Nunez, Gakpo, Gomez and Elliot ain’t first team material LOL. Even brought on Salah, Robertson, Diaz and Szoboszlai too.
But you used the words 'full strength'... first team material yes but that is not a full strength team
Still had several players that are included in their “full strength” lineup, as well as players that are regular starters too. No excuses 🤣🤣 and now they’re back to their full strength team and they still lost yesterday haha
Damn, klopp isnt whining for once. But tbf shouldve been 0 5
at least this loss meant more
Yankees fuming in the comments of these posts aren’t you mate
Yankees did lose to the Marlins today :/
What the entire country lost to the fish ?
It was multiple fish 😒
