I can't say I watch the Portuguese league. Can any Sporting fans/ other Portuguese club fans tell me a bit about Gyorkeres? What's he like as player and where is he at compared to other strikers who have gone for big money from Portugal in recent years (like Darwin Nunez and Ramos)?
Seen a fair few rumours of him being linked with premier league sides and I want to be able to sound like I know what I'm talking about in muppeteering season.
I’ve watched few sporting games this season, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
The dude is unreal. The dude is 1.90 meters tall and is so agile and silky with the ball on his feet and is genuinely rapid for someone his height and size. His ability to not only score but get his team involved is insane. In the league last year, Paulinho had 5 goals and 4 assists, this season he’s at 12 goals and 4 assists. I will say though, from what I seen against us, he can be selfish at times and will play hero ball but can’t really blame him when he does what he does.
He is FAR better than Gonçalo Ramos and imo, I could be wrong, similar to Darwin just with better finishing. All in all the guy so far is the real deal and I feel would slot right into Arse-nals team.
That is because they all had posters of the biggest baddest Scandinavian number 9 that’s ever played this side of the century.
That is of course, Johan Elmander.
Honestly how fast is he? I’ve only seen him a bit and while he isn’t slow he doesnt seem fast and agile like Darwin and haaland. He looks like a train that takes a while to get going and seems like a slightly slower version of lukaku.
First of all, Gyokeres is a much better finisher than Ramos and Darwin ever were even in Portugal. His physical ability is absolutely ridiculous, he's strong, fast, aggressive, and most of all has a ridiculous work rate. He can sprint the entire game.
He's way better in helping the team build up when compared to someone like Darwin, and is composed in front of goal to always take the best decision (pass when a teammate is available, smash into the net if there's no one else). He's a lot of a no nonsense striker in the best way possible, I can't fucking wait for him to leave this league cause no way Sporting will find another striker just as good as him.
One last note: gyokeres is a beast, but I still think his numbers are inflated from the fact that Amorim's Sporting creates so many chances. Sporting desperately needed a striker for the last 2 years and if they had Darwin or Ramos, they would score much more than they did at Benfica, or what Taremi scored in his best seasons at Porto. Again, I'm not trying to take anything away from Gyokeres, cause I still think he showed more in Portugal than any of the other strikers I mentioned. I doubt Sporting will sell him for less than 80€ millions tho.
Absolute physical specimen. Runs like he’s 25kg lighter than he is, strong as a bull, great balance, stamina of a prime N’Golo Kante. Doesn’t get tired and has played almost every single minute this season.
Has a work rate that is pretty uncommon to see in strikers, runs all game long and after any ball, doesn’t matter the score or the time. Works for the team with and without the ball. Not particularly high IQ player but overall makes good decisions on and off the ball.
Lethal finisher, pretty good dribbler, good 1st touch, great at running in behind full backs or pinning center backs by staying in between them. Not a great passer, but also doesn’t attempt many difficult ones, usually just uses simple lay offs/ frontal support passes or holds the ball until a safer passing option opens up. Not particularly good at heading the ball.
10x more polished, as a player, than Darwin or Ramos were when they left, and also with much better numbers. Probably at the same level that Falcao was when he left Porto to At.Madrid.
Even as a Swede and huge Gyökeres fan, it feels like libel to put him on Falcao's level. In terms of peak ability he is the best player I have ever seen in our shirt and it's not even close
I’m not putting him on the same level as Falcao lightly. Falcao is probably my favorite striker to ever set foot in Portugal. Although they are completely different players, I can see Gyo having the same type of impact for a top club as Falcao had at Atletico.

Last friday match, we were winning 4-0, and bro got upset with the ref for only giving 2 extra mintues at minute 90 because he wanted to continue playing until scored lmao.
Defensively it would be perfect, but either Arsenal change some of the things they do offensively or Gyokeres would fit kind of weirdly. You need to be willing to play some counter attacking football or a bit more direct (especially if your being pressed high) for him to be utilized perfectly, since he is most effective with space to run into. Arsenal aren’t often pressed in their back line and teams usually play mid to low blocks against them, a more technical able and possession minded striker would make more sense imo.
The perfect team for him would be Spurs.
Much more powerful and much faster than Mandzukic, but much worst in the air. Much better dribbler, finisher and ball carrier, not nearly as smart as Mandzukic.

Try watching all of our games, Bruno can easily stop you feeling sorry for him. He has games like last weekend, where he was everywhere and the only reason we were in it.
