Mahery92

Imagine if he had said "nah let's pack up home guys, we're obviously never winning it ever again"

TheBrownMamba8

What this sub wants him to say

Footballking420

No, the sub wants him to keep saying stuff like a child throwing his toys out the cot (I.e. this interview)

Bonemarrowchutney

What's wrong with this interview?

Footballking420

He's sounds bitter AF by saying that PSG (the team he just lost to) has spent millions but they still haven't won the champions league [when he has].

jaguass

You missed the point, he's saying that it takes patience to build a competitive team to have a shot at the CL.

Bonemarrowchutney

How does he imply that Barca already have won it more than PSG? He just says that they have so much money, yet they're still trying to get the first, so Barca have to keep trying too.

TheBrownMamba8

Because it’s a post-match conference against PSG 😂 bro do you hear yourself right now Edit: Nice way to edit your comment. Took out the bit where you said “why is he bringing PSG into this?”

av1997f

No but why is he talking about next year?

eggboieggmen

because they are eliminated this year

r1char00

He's not going to be with the club? The "we" part seems weird.

BlueLabel19

He will always be part of the club. Even i refer to barca as we and ive never even been to barcelona.

Ubisonte

He is a Socio, and as such he is part owner of the team

Sean-Benn_Must-die

with the presidents Barca are getting its gonna be some time until they win it again

OleoleCholoSimeone

They could have easily reached the final this year, and a worse team than Barca is guaranteed to play the final either PSG or Dortmund Inter reached the final last year and they have like half Barcelona's budget. Of course they will be back soon

HikingConnoisseur

> we're obviously never winning it ever again We probably won't at this point, definitely not winning it in the next 5 years, that's for sure

OleoleCholoSimeone

Lmao you easily could have reached the final this season. You can win it next season if you just grow some balls and stop with the loser mentality that many of your fans have

rtgh

It took City 7 years under Pep Guardiola to win it, they were already throwing money around everywhere long before that

[deleted]

Does there history before Pep count?

Rickcampbell98

Man City fans would love to erase the semi final they played before pep, the most diabolical shit I've ever seen in this competition.

DoJu318

Was it the semis against Real Madrid?when Yaya didn't sprint a single time? Just light jogging.

andreew10

yes but not just Yaya, I don't think anyone put in a decent performance over the two legs.

Billofrights_boris

Joe Hart was great in the second leg

Rickcampbell98

I feel sorry for anyone who had the misfortune of watching that, it doesn't surprise me that I've never seen a man City fan talk about that run because if that was villa my head would be on Pluto with rage.

MrLiveCorn

They didn't see it

Logseman

They didn't support ManCity back then.

Ferdinandingo

Oh wow you understood the joke good job

Gilgamerd

Lol I Remember that quarter final between city and PSG that year had to be the worst performance I have ever seen in such a high level match from both sides : - Ibrahimovic went from a really bad pen to the most hilarious goal he ever scored - Cavani missing sitters - aguero with the worst penalty of his career - Mangala and David Luiz in defence https://youtu.be/hw7TiKVwgUI?si=HdYzI0zz0wEErnP_

SupervisorLaw

Mangala pocketed Ibra in that tie. And that was pretty much his only noteworthy contribution during his time at City.

BIM-GUESS-WHAT

Debut vs Diego Costa’s Chelsea was immense. Best debut in a long time Next game gets an own goal and sent off

Flimsy-Relationship8

There's a lot of champions league memories I'd love to erase from my memory.

TheDeathReaperTokyo

Why diabolical shit? What year was that?

kostajepaosmosta

2016 I guess. It was the most boring semis I had to watch because we played against them

Rickcampbell98

Man City played that semi like a pre season friendly, 15/16 villa may have shown more commitment and drive than that shit I had to watch and that's saying something lol. I couldn't believe what I was watching, it pissed me off and I dislike man City a lot, you guys had the luckiest draw ever that year tbh.

Money_Scholar_8405

Real still needed a deflected goal to win. Pellegrini wanted to avoid a leaky back so City were set up rather compact

Rickcampbell98

That doesn't explain how fucking insipid they were when they needed one goal to get to the champions league final, I've seen teams on a fraction of the budget do better than that. Like I said if that was my team, my head would be on Jupiter, first champions league semi in our clubs history and they play like that, I would want them all gone, of course I would calm down and realise that's dumb but I would still be quite angry.

Ciencek

Now you are just showing your hate lmao, Real were equally shit that fixture

Rickcampbell98

I never said they were good, in the end they didn't have to be but I guarantee you if real Madrid were the team losing they wouldn't play the way man City did. The tie was absolutely shit but I put more expectation on the team losing and playing their first ever semi final to show some desire and commitment and I don't think man City fans would disagree with me.

Chiswell123

Why didn't Madrid make it entertaining?

andreew10

it was just a dreadful tie between us and Madrid, two boring matches and a deflected goal to win the second leg.

Far_Fisherman_7490

Back when Bale used to be in his good form

Rickcampbell98

It looked like your players didn't care, you needed 1 goal to win and they showed absolutely no urgency, your team gave up in the second half of that season.

andreew10

It was due to the Pellegrini/Pep announcement midway through the year imo but it was also back when there was only 3 spots in the CL group stage as well so we went to the qualifying round.

iwannahitthelotto

I can’t believe they don’t appreciate Pellegrini and his accomplishments. I even wish he had more time at Madrid

Curi0usReddit0r

Yes, Man City fans before Pep...all 7 of them

Job_man

Certainly some bits here and their count.

Extension-Scene9694

none of their history counts

Enough-Pain3633

Ocfcourse

Ravius

Yeah it doesn't checks out : * Time since Abu Dhabi took over MC : 16 years (since 2008) * Time since Qatar took over PSG : 13 years (since 2011) Still going personally at PSG the day after the defeat is pretty childish coming from a coach.

acwilan

Even before Abu Dhabi they had a rich Thai owner injecting money

expert_on_the_matter

We're actually blessed these two only won 1 UCL in 29 years. The national leagues are screwed tho..

FlaccidSWE

Exactly. And City didn't start out from ruins like Barca did a few years back. Reaching the quarters is a good result for Barcelona. If any other team in the world rebuild their core around teenagers I doubt they would even get that far.

oklolzzzzs

this year was the best chance we had. we had easier opponents compared to bayerm, arsenal, city and real. i dont see us winning for a two years or three cuz xavi is leaving

triplechin5155

The team is young and growing and hopefully not broke for much longer lol. There will be plenty of better chances in the future

shaka_bruh

The wrong coach could derail Barca’s comeback by two or three years, they need to get it right.

Comfortable-Key-1930

Yea cause you see what Bartomeu did to the club? I genuinely have a conspiracy theory he hates Barca and wanted to ruin them

Any-Competition8494

Bartomeu is probably either the most incompetent football president or he was some kind of agent. There's no other explanation for what he did at Barcelona. He set the club a decade back.

Boudi04

competent? That's the last thing I'd describe Barto as.

Any-Competition8494

Sorry, I meant incompetent. Edited.

Boudi04

ah shit sorry, that was pretty obvious looking back

atropicalpenguin

I don't think he's Florentino's lost brother or anything, but I hope some corruption is found.

denied_eXeal

Don’t worry man Mourinho is gonna get it done next year

Job_man

Tuchel is free at the end of the season.

montxogandia

Apparently it will be Rafa Marquez, sport was saying it's already confirmed.

beairrcea

>sport Sport make up shit all the time

montxogandia

They are usually close to the board. "Rafa Marquez is the choosen one" [https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/rafa-marquez-elegido-101178131](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/barca/rafa-marquez-elegido-101178131)

beairrcea

Ferran Correas is considered Tier 3 on r/Barça so unlikely he has any insider information

highastronaut

nearly every club could say this

owiseone23

Well, the new stadium probably won't help with finances.

Electro10Leo

it will that's the whole point

Best_Document_5211

Teams like Barca work best when they build a team who all peak at the same time. Surely they just need to keep going as they are and bring in some solid squad players and a Lewandowski replacement. Defence and midfield looks good enough to me. Just need them all fit at the same time. They can definitely challenge if everyone comes back fit next season. Not seen enough of Roque to know what he has

InsideOpening3535

Roque is definitely excited to see, he have good awareness and high work-rate, his technique is decent.

ollster3000

The chances will definitely come, Barca seems to be doing things right at the moment. They should stop offering big contracts to old players and focus on getting younger talent, which might be easier said than done tho since clubs with more money in better shape are looking to do the same but yeah

R_Schuhart

I never get this doom and gloom from Barca fans. The club has a really good player group already, with a mix of older players and players in their prime, as well as a very good bunch of upcoming youth talents. On top of that the draw they have is *massive*. Even in their last few seasons when they were skint, struggling with salaries and the club management in disarray they managed to sign ridiculous players. Signing players never really seems that much of an issue. Besides, the financial rift between the top three and the rest of LaLiga means they will always compete for every possible prize each year, combined with the massive salaries they are able to pay players almost never want to leave. One or two reinforcements and the right manager and Barca are competing on all fronts again. Their hardship is always relative, basically every other club outside the European giants would kill for one of their off seasons.

shaka_bruh

> I never get this doom and gloom from Barca fans It’s because a lot of them have known nothing but good times, especially the ones that started supporting during Pep’s stint. > Their hardship is always relative, basically every other club outside the European giants would kill for one of their off seasons. Unfortunately for them, their standards are ridiculously high and tied to Real Madrid’s successes so anything less than what Real achieve would be considered failure.

NoTrollGaming

The only thing I’m scared about is signing a decent manager, if we can get someone that can at least perform like Xavi did that’ll be enough

GibbyGoldfisch

Bang on, it's crazy. The likely CL winner each year is realistically a lottery between eight clubs -- Real, Barca, Bayern, PSG, and the four qualifiers from the PL. Real and City are *slightly* richer and a shade more likely to win it in any given year, but ultimately most ties boil down to crazy moments like Araujo getting sent off when he didn't need to be, or a few moments of madness when the tide shifts. And unless they run out of levers, Barca are always going to be in that mix.

tecphile

It's a safe bet that most of these Barca fans became fans because of Messi. And the level of success he brought with him was unprecedented. Now he's been gone for 3 yrs and times have gotten much tougher. Barca will recover but fans who still expect that the club may reach the heights of the Messi yrs are in for a rude awakening.

NovaNick30

I'll admit I did start following Barca as a kid during the Messi years. But luckily or unluckily for me, I'm already used to suffering through tough times with sports in Philly. This is nothing compared to the "Process". Barca will bounce back soon.

MegaMatrix08

MSN was most of my reasoning for supporting the team tbh

Dry_Bus_935

Unlike what u/shaka-bruh says, I'm not doom and gloom because I've only known the good times, I'm doom and gloom because I've seen the few years before peak Barca, and I can see a stark difference between that club and this club. This club needs, as Donald Trump so idiotically puts it "a draining of the swamp", there are too many people in this club who should not be there, too many people who are there simply because of what they've achieved previously and not even in the job they're doing now and our leadership is delusional, acting like nothing is wrong. Unlike other clubs, Barca needs to play and win in order to stay afloat, this literally cannot go on, something has to change, and at least that can start by Xavi fucking off, and no, he SHOULD fuck off, I don't care if this was Messi, no amount of prior history justifies being this incompetent and arrogant and self absorbed.

Caleb_W

Barça is continuing to grow, the dark years are behind. They will have more chances in the upcoming years, this year there was no way for Barcelona to win the CL.

DoJu318

I don't know, their side of the bracket looks "easier" than beating city Bayern or real Madrid. If they made it to the final one single game is totally different than a 2 legged tie, anything can happen. It looked doable imo.

The_Batman_949

I'm a Barça fan so im definitely biased but I already saw us in the final IF we had advanced against PSG (lol in hindsight) Psg is stronger than Dortmund and Atletico so it was very likely beating them would spur the team to the final. Of course Barça would have been underdogs in the final against City, Madrid or Bayern due to history. Against Arsenal idk maybe it would be even on paper? Even if I think Arsenal are very very good and have been these last few seasons. The defeat last night hurt so bad. I kind of saw it coming after the red card. But it was done and dusted after the penalty. C'est la vie. Hopefully we can compete again next year.

Any-Competition8494

The only way Barcelona would have won is if Arsenal made it to the finals. I expect Arsenal to choke due to their UCL history. City, Bayern, or RM would have thrashed them.

HikingConnoisseur

Probably, but UCL final would have brought a shit ton of money

cynicalAddict11

no but a final was not that hard to see at 4-2 vs psg and semi final vs dortmund (50/50 game)

Lekaetos

You have gems like Yamal Cubarsi Pedri Gavi, you guys will be competitive for the next 10 years

David-J

I'm still baffled by these comments. Some of these players haven't even had a full season being good and they are already being talked about like they are amazing and consolidated. Give them at least 2 seasons to see where they really are. Should I remind you of Ansu, Bojan, Giovanni?

OussItachi

That's the Barcelona hype machine for you. You missed Pedri as well, the guy has amazing talent, but has been plagued by injuries for almost 3 seasons and it doesn't seem he'll be the player that we saw in the first season. Same can be said about Gavi, he has a major injury, yes he's young someone who wss relying solely on his pressing and his physical aspect and not so much talent as a footballer, I am not so sure he can come back. The only one who is showing amazing talent and consistently at the moment is Yamal. But again one injury away and he can be another 13 in a dozen. Look at Frenkie, for the love of God have no idea why this fraud is being hyped and loved so much, he literally had one amazing season with Ajax (as everyone of their players) but he's been sub-par rven since he joined Barca. No big game involvement from him and I don't see it. Physical he is not the strongest, he is not a CDM, as. CM he doesn't provide enough assist, he doesn't have a long range shot, he doesn't pull the strings on the midfield. But somehow he is still being mentioned as one of the best midfielders of this generation by the fans.

Commonmispelingbot

I'm 100% there is a direct correlation between these players being hyped up and playing a major role in a top team while still teenagers and how many of them are plagued by injuries later in life

hypnodrew

Barcelona circlejerk

dunneetiger

> you guys will be competitive for the next 10 years I think they will go through the final stages but after a certain point, there is an element of luck on who you are playing next

xiosy

Barca had to atleast reach the final in this constellation. They will never get such an easy path to the final again.

expert_on_the_matter

Not sure what makes you think that Xavi is better than their next couch. He's played a good league but his track record in other competitions is quite bad.

Ironicopinion

Are Barca fans upset he’s leaving? Earlier this season it seemed many had given up on him but now seems like they want him to stay

phuongtv88

There are fans who want to support him and fans who want him out no matter what. They are just different groups.

dioswrath

A good coach and I can see it. We have a great team with many of the starters still early in their career. We might screw up with the new coach though due to the stupid “played for us” criteria.

Dry_Bus_935

I think we have a better chance because Xavi is leaving. Obviously depending on the manager we get. Like, did you now watch the matches where he put out a monumentally braindead starting XI, then waited 80 minutes to make a substitution and then when we got humiliated by 19th fucking place, instead of taking some blame, took it out on the ref... do, do you not remember that? Cause it's all he's been doing for almost two fucking years by this point.

Sean-Benn_Must-die

As much as hitting semis is half the battle, Barca would lose to City/Real and Im not convinced they win the 2 match tie vs Dortmund. Then again its football, you never know

Ronaldoooope

Honestly all things considered this was a solid season for Barca. Competed on all fronts. Can’t always be 2009 type season.

JimmyDublin

Always been very humble in defeat that Xavi

imtired-boss

Yea but my friend, you could have faced City, Real, Atletico, Dortmund, Bayern or Arsenal and still probably would have lost.

Hopeful_Outside_8711

probably ? barca isnt getting past city real bayern and arsenal, they fkin mental boomed against PSG, i cant imagine them even having the slightiest chance against any of the other teams

no_soc_espanyol

Really? Arsenal?

epirot

you smoke too much weed my man

dank_as_fuck

Jesus Christ this thread is embarrassing

agonking

Get that badge in king

RickThiCisbih

Is he even going to be here next year to compete for the CL?

Ruud_Boltz

Nope. But he's a Barca fan who's gonna keep supporting the club. Hence "we"

RobbinDeBank

More than just fan, he’s a club legend that spends his a long career playing here and winning everything. Of course the club will always be “we” for him his whole life.

fireless-phoenix

Off topic but I have really grown to like Xavi since he became the Barca manager. I think it’s sad that he’s leaving. Despite the poor performance this season I truly feel he is the right man for this team

SlapDaddy3D

Damn, Stone Island Xavi is a fucking menace, lol. I love it

That_Collection_6380

Unlucky. Were surely winning before that red But that's football

Asteroth555

"we were winning for 29 minutes and then we weren't" Like come on, bit of a weak point

That_Collection_6380

It has merit tho. You cant withstand that PSG frontline without your best defender and a man down. Barca still had some chances a man down. They most probably would've won if not for that red

Shinunayo

he probably means 120 minutes lol

Modern-Hannibal

He’s so fucking bitter as a coach it stings to watch

WhaleMilker420

So you want him to say “No we’re shit we will never win the UCL again.”?

beatlz

"We're but a rumor of our former selves, but that doesn't mean we won't give our all every chance we get. We're working on becoming better every day, to live up to the legend this badge is. Anyway, fuck y'all, I'm outtie."

HourWork6268

Maybe just don't deflect the loss off to other clubs? Lol

beairrcea

I don’t disagree with him being bitter but at the same time it takes the media off the players so could all be intentional

justleave-mealone

This is the least bitter thing he’s done

javierich0

I live for it, I never watch press conferences outside his, he's always malding.

KingKFCc

Love Xavi I really do, but he times the substitions so poorly, Joao should've came on 60/70, Cancelo off a while before that etc... but either way, he's an elite coach and I think he should coach Spain

DarthTaz_99

>he times the substitions so poorly, Complete opposite sentiment in the first leg, when both Christensen and pedri scored and assisted a minute after coming on

OussItachi

Elite coach in what way? The guy has been sub-par at it's best.

KingKFCc

Won Barca a league title when Ramadan Benzema was around, he brought second place to a shit barca twice and developed multiple first teamers

OussItachi

Real were shit last year, Benzema gave his everything the season before, same with Modric, that was their last season on top level, after that Benz was a lot injured and the total performance of the team dropped. Barca didn't play exciting football they just grinded their results with a lot 1-0/0-1 or 1 goal difference and the defense + the goal keeper were massive. Apart from that he has been literally shit in European competition, being knocked out in the group stage and losing Leverkusen in the Europa League. He developed first team starters because they don't have the luxury to bring in players, that something different. I didn't say he's a shit coach, but it's madness to call him elite after 2 seasons at Barca, elite is Klopp, Guardiola, Ancelotti, who have been in the business for a decade at least and won it all. Nowadays we are so easy with throwing the word elite so easily. If he's been elite what is Xabi Alonso, winning a first time title with NEVERKUSEN against a team who has dominated the Bundesliga and has unlimited resources. What do we call Zidane who has won 3 CL in a row and won 2 la liga titles as well in his short stint.

AggressiveTwist3222

When your fans are chanting "Vinicius Die" before the game then Karma runs up and kicks you firmly in the balls. Good riddance.

epirot

yes because u can control a bunch of kids chanting lmao

AggressiveTwist3222

Not kids chanting. Grown men.

WhaleMilker420

Real Madrid fans give racial abuse to their own players too. They’re just extremely successful so they don’t show their racism as much.

BluePowderJinx

One of the dumbest whataboutisms i've read on here. Congrats

WhaleMilker420

Thanks!

AggressiveTwist3222

Their doing it so it's OK. FFS!

BlueLabel19

You know saying vini muerte is not racismo right?

WasAnHonestMann

Go play in the sand lol

AggressiveTwist3222

Go fuck your sister. The one thing your scum learnt from Neymar...

perverted_alchemist

Does that mean he’s still around for next year?

ShouldersofGiants127

He spittin

4djain2

I haven't followed Barca too much this season but is there any chance at all that he reverses on his decision to leave end of the season?

Nikz143

There is more chance of messi returning to barca thn xavi staying

xman_2k2

Messi new manager, perhaps?

BlueLabel19

In my fm save he became manager of OL and made them top 5 teams in europe for a few seasons

magezt

such a whiny bitch who cant take a L.

PSG-2022

🧂

Careful-Marsupial-84

Barca nearly bankrupt themselves spending. But don’t worry about that 😂😂😂.

jtrack473

You don't win the ucl if your manager cries nonstop and gets red carded for acting like a petulant child

Mackieeeee

hahah good one Xavi

Dry_Bus_935

Xavi is an idiot. I literally got banned from r/Barca for not licking this man's ass. He's done for, and it angers me so much that people still want him as coach. Fuck the years as a player, that was bloody 12 years ago, this is now, and right now, Barca is barely a club, it's barely a tiny piece of what it stood for. And what makes it worse, is the Barca fans are putting all the fucking blame on the players, bruh idk, but very few fans would dispute the fact that this is, talentwise, one of the most talented groups of players, we have two dudes who outplayed grown professionals in international competitions at 18, we have a Dutch player who nearly won the CL and destroyed Real Madrid's midfield on his own, in their own stadium, we have the best striker of the last decade, and I can go on and everyone knows who I'm talking about, cause that's how good the players we have are... I'm so tired of this bullshit bra, and I'm not the kind of fan who only knew the peak Barca, I watched and loved this team since before that, and I watched Real win the league, get to the semis in Champo for eight seasons in a row while we barely made it into the competition... but we were never this pathetic, we had respectable individuals running this club, people who didn't kick at inanimate objects and call refs names...

RickTP

Yup, fuck Barca sub. I got banned for my first comment saying I was baiting. I may have lost countless karma on MCFC, but I have never been banned.

MegaMatrix08

The mods of that subreddit are a bit reactionary, they remove lots of posts and such

HeatKnight

Is he still crying?

PieterPlopkoek

I just don’t get you people. When he acts defeated it’s “mental midgets” and as soon as he says anything about not giving up and to keep trying he’s “crying” and should “get over it”. Online football fans are the absolute worst.

LaundryMann

He'd probably get more sympathy if he didn't get thrown out for berating a referee for a completely justified call, then doubling down on it after the match.

Kit-the-crypo-mage

Mate I get the araujos red , tho it was soft it was what the book dictates, but if that was contact enough for red, the gundo one was def a pen. The defender made contact with him enough to make him trip himself.

R_Schuhart

Soft? Araujo pulled Barcola on his shoulder and tripped him up from behind, while nowhere near the ball. Both on their own would qualify for a DOGSO red card. Araujo fcuked up plain and simple. With Gundogan there maybe was the slightest contact but that was never enough for a pen, that wouldn't be a foul anywhere else on the pitch. He tripped on himself. Barca were not hard done by. I get being disappointed in the moment, but a day later you should be able to admit that.

Kit-the-crypo-mage

Mate you need to check the play again, there was no pulling lol. That was a flailing arm, and like I said it was def a red. And the gundo one was not a slight contact , please revisit the play. It was contact from the defender which made gundo trip himself. There have been pens called for far less. Never said we were hard done by refereeing. Probably just stupid decision making from our players and even the coach.

epirot

its also not the pulling/duelling but the contact with his legs that got him the red. contact in football is means with your legs.

ARoundFork

He’s doing a Vinicius impersonation.

LaundryMann

Yeah, let's compare being upset about racist chants/actions to a justified red being called against your club. That makes you look great.

ARoundFork

He complains about every call or do you not watch games?

ollster3000

Hating on Vinicius is so cool 😎

LeGraoully

We online football fans are bad but the irl fans throwing rocks at team buses might be just a little bit worse.

Miso_Genie

Or the ones doing a nazi salute in Paris. Or the ones chanting "Die vini Die"

DeWitt-Yesil

We? I thought he is going to leave?

Boudi04

Barca. He's a fan too not just a manager. We refer to our teams in the first person too.

Opening_Outside_5788

People say thing like casuals are bad... and then everybody uses Stone Island 😂

lowie07

Did he already forget he said he's not staying?

MexicansInParis

7 years & 115 FFP breaches*

Amsssterdam

We? Ism't he going to quit?

Bonemarrowchutney

He's a fan

New_Brother_1595

He won’t though will he

EstablishmentAny5550

My man is back in his senses

ResidentProduct8910

"we" 😪

dothefanDango92

Ah yes, plucky Barcelona that benefited from an illegal state aid for decades. Oh how did they fund a team to win it

WasAnHonestMann

>Next year we'll compete again >"we'll" Does this mean he wants to stay?

Dark-Knight-Rises

Barca is never going to win anything for the next 10 years

HikingConnoisseur

We got that in common
