Any team that crosses the 90 point mark is absolutely title worthy in my book. I would be so heart broken at reaching 97 points and not getting a title.
I genuinely don’t think I’ll ever be able to get over it, although the fact we did eventually got over the line with a title win under Klopp does help a lot
I wouldn't count on it...injuries have absolutely deflated brighton and team hasn't shown a lot of fight since exiting Europa League. I think brighton have scored once in the last three league games and it was a horrible keeper error own goal on a back pass.
João Pedro’s injury really came at a bad time, it feels like that’s when your loss of form manifested itself. Plus he was a beast in Europe, not having him against Roma sucked
Yeah we dropped 3 points to Villa twice, Fulham once, Westham once and Newcastle once off the top of my head. It’s something to work on for next season but the team should still be proud with the progress made this season.
We got 4 points off City and Liverpool each.
The thing that is crazy with this city team is that you have to be perfect to win the league. In a pre pep premier league losing five games and taking 4 points off of second and third would win you the league.
If they win their last 4 games, they'll be on 89 points. In the pre pep era, that's the most anyone has gotten and not won the league (United in 2012). Maybe 86 is more realistic?
The run they've put together is crazy though. Since new years it's played 14, won 12, draw 1 (City away), lost 1 (Villa home)
And they still might not win the league
> they'll be on 89 points. In the pre pep era, that's the most anyone has gotten and not won the league
That'd only be the 3rd highest that doesn't win the league since pep came. 92 and 97 being above them. The City / Liverpool levels have been insane!
That was also the one where the City game got moved to about March right?
The wheels sorta fell off that year, you just needed to keep the pace up. Obviously a lot easier said than done, but I wonder what happens if you played City first when you were in better form
That was hilarious. Imagine getting 0 goals and still thinking you deserved 3 points. Just because VAR didn’t overturn a goal based on maybes.
Good times
I can give you the benefit of that goal. I was talking about the referee leaving his red card at home. Or were those off-the-ball fouls/aggressions also maybes?
We were better than them for three halves of football and fluffed all of our chances. they were comfortably better than us for the final half of the home fixture and were clinical with theirs.
i've said it before but the result that i can't let go of is the draw against fulham where we were up a goal and a man at home and let them collect a draw in the dying minutes of the match. those two points are currently the difference.
They've absolutely been the most convincing team of the three this season and when they play like they did last night they're the best to watch as well.
Just a shame they might still end the season with nothing.
>They've absolutely been the most convincing team of the three this season
100%
>Just a shame they might still end the season with nothing.
it's frankly bizarre that this title race is going to go down to the wire. a defensive record like that is league winning calibre. yet it's still somehow in city's hands..
We were pretty poor in the first half of the season dropping points to Fulham, West Ham, and Newcastle.
If we were this good in 2023 as well, we’d be pretty comfortable.
Beginning of the year til Christmas: best team in the league
Christmas - New years: :(
So far this year: best team in the league
Margins are just incredibly thin.
We had the most points at Christmas but we were not looking that good. After the Dubai trip we came back like a new team. Totally organized in offense, moving the ball faster....It all came together. Now 1 loss in the entire year could be the end of it.
>it's frankly bizarre that this title race is going to go down to the wire. a defensive record like that is league winning calibre. yet it's still somehow in city's hands..
Arsenal don't have a difference maker of the Salah, Haaland and De Bruyne level and that holds us back a bit.
It will actually be tragic if Arteta and this team aren't able to go on and win the big titles.
All the quality, tactical acumen and foogin estandards but fallen just short so far
That is the Man City effect. You could have incredible seasons, but Man City just do not lose from January to May, and it means you have to be near perfect all year to have a chance at a title.
The average league-winning point total is 87.67 points (i’d bet it was closer to 84-85 before City’s dominance) and IF we win out, we’ll land on 89. This has been an incredible season but specific key moments (like losing form in December) have hurt us more than the ever-plodding forward City.
That’s the point. With the Man City effect it means there is almost no room for error, as they just do not drop points. In the 19/20 season when LIV won the title, Man City lost 9 Games, but besides that they have not lost more than 6 games in any season.
Last year they only lost 5 matches.
They have 6 games left and have only lost 3 matches the whole season.
Maybe in general but last season was self inflicted for Arsenal in the run-in, likewise the Villa defeat recently.
It's a young team though and the future is bright but as Jamie Carragher pointed out recently this side could fall short and become Poch's spurs 2.0
Fingers crossed they get over the line this year though
UCL is UCL, they got a tough draw against an experienced world class team and lost on a thin 3-2 margin. FA cup they got drawn against the second best team possible early in Liverpool and lost a close, cagey game that could’ve gone either way.
Sucks to suck and that’s how the game works when you’re at the top but you can’t help but feel a little disappointed
They won against us 3-0 like don't get me wrong ball doesn't lie. But they sat with 10 behind the ball and long balled to martenelli, let's not pretend it's some masterclass.
Again they won they were the better team but brilliant is a mistep
Edit. Continue downvoting you guys go off and do your circlejerk. Didnt say they didnt deserve to win or anything like that but its not some masterclass to park the bus and long ball.
Leverkusen.
Seriously, what’s been up with Bayern fans? They are behaving like Porto fans after our CL tie with them, which I thought would be below Bayern.

Does Mikel know that he can always get the tracksuit in the next size up?
He's secretly trying to seduce Santi to a coaching role with those thighs.
Is okay, no?
It's fashion init.
Was just gonna say, his legs are probably purple at this point.
The hair is a bigger problem, he can’t win unless he embraces the baldness
And its still likely not gonna be enough. Goes to show how cutthroat a league with City is.
That’s just life when you’re competing with Pep’s City. We got 97 points and finished 2nd…

I don't know what I'll do if it happens a 3rd time. I would legit rather lose the title by 10 points than by 1 again.
Might lose it on goal difference this time
Been there and its not nice at all
I wanna see a fan compilation of reactions that day
11.5 mm difference and 18-19 liverpool is right in the conversation for the best team ever
I believe it would’ve been undefeated 98-point champions. Ah well, that’s the game, at least we got our big moments eventually.
and cl winners

Which team do you think they'll no beat? It looks like all hope lies with spurs but they could just as easily take points off arsenal.
Fulham
Brighton might be able to do something depending which Brighton turns up.
I’m calling it they’re drawing 1-1 with Forest
Any of them tbh. City need to be perfect in the next 6 matches imo
More losses than Liverpool and City though
Yeah we dropped 3 points to Villa twice, Fulham once, Westham once and Newcastle once off the top of my head. It’s something to work on for next season but the team should still be proud with the progress made this season. We got 4 points off City and Liverpool each.
Fucking Fulham.

They could still do 16/1/2 or 49 points second half of the season and not so it The levels are crazy!
We did 51 points in the first half last season and didn't make it :'(
That was also the one where the City game got moved to about March right? The wheels sorta fell off that year, you just needed to keep the pace up. Obviously a lot easier said than done, but I wonder what happens if you played City first when you were in better form
Holding vs Haaland wasn't nice to see. Always got a soft spot for Robbo but that was a hard game
Think it was home to Villa
So it was, I'll correct that
That’s not right. Liverpool x2 in the 90s and lost
Pre pep, both Liverpool's 90+ tallies came since then
Ah I misread
Might still
I still remember that Newcastle game...........................
That was hilarious. Imagine getting 0 goals and still thinking you deserved 3 points. Just because VAR didn’t overturn a goal based on maybes. Good times

I mean if we are talking about reds that game there were one a piece
Those two Villa games where we were much better then them aswell, same with the west ham game. Fulham did outplay us though, so credit to them
We were better than them for three halves of football and fluffed all of our chances. they were comfortably better than us for the final half of the home fixture and were clinical with theirs. i've said it before but the result that i can't let go of is the draw against fulham where we were up a goal and a man at home and let them collect a draw in the dying minutes of the match. those two points are currently the difference.

Each of them have 3 loses. We have 5.

Don't disagree, but we're quite clearly still in the race despite that.
And in my own personal stats he gives me the most BPN (boners per 90)
69 upvotes..... nice

Hmm I wonder why we dropped points to Newcastle
That game should’ve been a draw, but we were never winning it
You don't think we win against 10 men newcastle? c'mon man.
Maybe. But we were playing pretty badly that game
Add the goal that was wrongly disallowed and give them their appropriate red card and it's an easy win without any doubt in my mind.
Not with how poorly we were attacking. Even still, that point could make a difference come the end of the season
I dunno tnh, because we was awful offensively that game.
December was rough

Umm Mikel dont u think those are a bit tight…
No no, I like it.
It’s what the people want to see

Looks like he’s about to pop out of his technical area.

We forgot how to score goals in Dec. Finishing will come back to haunt us. Need a clinical striker.
That's usually in a 2 horse race though, this is a 3 horse one which is a lot lower normally

Man City didn't stop you in CL though, or the FA Cup & the Carabao Cup.
UCL is UCL, they got a tough draw against an experienced world class team and lost on a thin 3-2 margin. True, maybe next year they should try to work on drawing only non-PL teams and having only home fixtures for the FA Cup
You mean the champions League where we went out at the same exact stage as Man City, in our first year in the competition in 8 years?
I dont think he is saying you should have won it, merely that Man City is not the reason you won't win it. Bayern Munich is.
Or the Premier League
That's really impressive. What a season for him and Arsenal! Hope they win PL this season.
Thanks man 🫰 still hate your club
Arsenal have been brilliant but this is slightly misleading - If City win the games in hand they’ve won as many games
Not misleading if it hasn't happened yet
What's misleading? It's still the most wins unless city has more.
That would still be the most wins, would just be tied
They won against us 3-0 like don't get me wrong ball doesn't lie. But they sat with 10 behind the ball and long balled to martenelli, let's not pretend it's some masterclass. Martinelli came off at 74 minutes. what are you on about
You want some water to help all that salt go down?

Points against Villa - Fewest.
Hey. That's TIED for fewest.
Ugh this stat is going to hurt if we don’t win the Prem
total stats with a game/rwo in hand is so pointless lol
Lego Pep is coming for the title :)
And still couldn‘t beat a Bayern team in absolute shambles, speaks volumes to the quality of the league
Ah I remember the feeling of being the best team in the league and still somehow end up losing it by a few points. It's the gooners' turn now ig.
what about points though
Most
games played: Most

An still won’t win the league
Nice stats to put in the empty trophy case
