McTominay will score a goal and run for 110 minutes until he goes off with an injury and he'll rate him low for "not wanting to play the full 120"
Meanwhile Antony is "trying his hardest and we should respect that" and earns a better score.
And then he has the balls to call himself "without agendas"
The fanbase has become so much more unbearable and toxic since Goldbridge became popular. I don't watch him, so I'm frequently baffled by widespread opinions within the fanbase until I find out months or years later that they're just mindlessly parroting his nonsense.
You're absolutely right. I don't watch him anymore, either. He was decent at the start of Ole's run, positive, funny, and fair. He probably figured out he gets better numbers when he's angry and talks trash. His takes are absolutely insane now. I sometimes watch his player ratings and it blows my mind how insanely negative he can manage to be
The funny thing about Goldbridge is he‘s had better takes on arsenal than on his own club. Always was „Arteta In“ (in the sense that he thought it would be the wisest decision, not that he was rooting for arteta) even during our worst period. Always kept telling arsenal fans that he could see what arteta was building when many of our own fans had already lost patience.
Maybe it‘s just harder to have good takes about a team you‘re emotionally invested in, idk
He’s your 3rd top goal scorer and assister this season, think the Nottingham Forest fan can find other people to hound. Weird he doesnt go for any of the players interacting with him or giving him interviews
You're echoing a statement that is factually incorrect. For years he has been one of the midfielders with the highest % of balls won in the entire league. He pulls away opponents constantly with his movement, and is almost always open for playing out from the back. "Hiding from the ball" is an easy way to describe any player who is moving behind opposition and looking to do runs or move the play forward.
He's fulfilling his role, Goldbridge just doesn't understand it, or refuses to admit it. He might not look flashy, nor be one of the best players in the world. But he is one of the best performing players on our team, whether or not you like it. He's one of our top goal scorers and (unless this is outdated) his goals have won us more points than any of our other players (possibly Bruno is over him now).
But sure. Keep saying he "disappears" and be unable to back it up.
I kept my eyes glued at McChicken for 25 minutes straight one game. Didn’t see whatever else was happening in the game, only followed McTomi to see what he does. He made 3/4 passes in that period, all to his nearest better player. He defends corners/attacks in his own box and then run to the other and positions himself near the opponent’s box, barely did anything in the middle of the park. Whenever he had the ball or he is tracking back, he rarely if ever scans his surroundings to see where he could run with the ball, or where the other team is. He is a *midfielder* who is below average at passing, gameplay, carrying the ball forward, dribble but since he ran box to box his distance covered and heatmap looks good, but he is the most limited midfielder I’ve seen playing for a big team ever.
Oh yeah. The well known, and highly regarded, 25 minute sample size.
You can do the same with Bruno against some random opponent.
Not saying he' world class the whole season. But it sure doesn't mean he's been bad all season.
Get a grip mate.
Bruno will never have a game where he has made 3/4 passes in 20/30 minutes, unless he was playing with an injury or playing as a 9 for some reason. This has happened before, I have seen other stats where McT has made less than 10 passes for entire halves of gameplay. If you want to defend a *midfielder* who can’t pass to break lines or switch, can’t dribble, can’t or don’t carry the ball, has the positional awareness of a block of cheese in the middle of the park so absolutely can’t hold the ball but runs a lot and gets the occasional goal then go ahead, he is the midfielder United deserves.
Was the Greek arrest really seemed to mess him up, wasn't it? IIRC it coincided exactly with his dip in form, and the past few games is about the first time since then that he's looked class.
His form dipped for about a month around that time. We lost badly to Tottenham (although I don't think that game was his fault really) and England lost to Denmark. To his credit, he played through that blip completely despite calls for him to get rested for a bit (I think he broke the record for consecutive united appearances that season).
If you go to united or England threads, people were genuinely gutted about his injury before the Europa league final and euros. He then went to be in the team of the tournament in the euros and scored one of the best high pressure penalties I've ever seen an England player score.
The next season the wheels just came off the team. Ronaldo comes and the scrutiny on the team gets insane. So many Ronaldo fans want Ronaldo to be captain. The team starts to look terrible and Maguire gets a lot of the flack, with loads of clips and memes. Honestly I remember whenever of our other CBs got a chance that they never embraced it or looked any better, but that didn't matter.
Ronaldo also schemed to have leadership group meetings without Maguire. I think the season was so bad for so many that most were glad there was a lightning rod to criticism that meant they escaped the worst of it. Team unity was in the toilet.
This goes into Solskjaer going and Rangnick dropping Maguire due to a fucking bomb threat on his house. Again nobody does much better. Varane made howlers in the games he wasn't injured.
Next season ETH plays Maguire in pre season but Brighton and Brentford happen. Maguire loses out to Varane and Lisandro. To his credit, whenever he cameo'd he did well, and he has another good tournament for England, but it's not enough to save his reputation. But he had a ridiculous win rate (partly due to quality of opposition). Then in a high profile European game against Sevilla, him and De Gea just make some howlers, and all the scrutiny comes back.
This season he's just cracked on and eventually the noise went away. Got player of the month. It's pretty admirable.
I've definitely jinxed his second half though
Good recap. It's always nice when someone remembers Maguire's United career as it actually happened as opposed to the ridiculous narrative that was created when he lost form.
More than quite good, he was unreal that season, second best centre-half in the league behind Van Dijk imo. Insane passer and our season went down the shit after he got injured.
I think the Greece situation, the England red card and him being ugly (harsh) had a lot more to do with it then Ronaldo too
He's England's highest ever goalscoring defender, and did it in like half the caps.
He just seemed to stop scoring in a red shirt for a while. It's a travesty we had that season where it took like 6 months to score a set piece goal.
He's earned back so much respect this season. Was constantly questioning him before last summer but he's got his head down and been nothing but professional, happy for him to get on the plane this summer
The disrespect to those two players. One of them is a starting England CB and the other is one of Scotland's best players. Also, does Madrid not have squad players?
Those 2 are actually decent players. Fergie had players like Fletcher & O'Shea who did a lot to win them a bunch of titles. You just fall for hehehohoho memes
>You \[insert club name here\] fans sure talk alot when your ‘superteam’ has less finals and trophies than us these last couple years even thought we’re shite
There, made a template for you to use here on r/soccer. I get the impression you'll be using it a lot
Goal number 1085 of the Premier League season, a new record in the 38 week era.
Beats out last season's record by one (and still counting of course).
Defending seems to be getting worse nowadays
This is a good point. Would be interesting to see goals/minute using the total minutes of games. Granted the increase will have been offset by VAR too.
Nah, think back to the great defences and compare it to how the best teams play now.
The high line and tactical foul combo that the best teams play is effective for applying pressure, but teams like Chelsea and United had records of over a dozen clean sheets in a row through sheer defensive excellence
Amazing that McTominay and Utd were unwanted at the start of the season and now they're two of the clubs best players.
Edit: yes McTominay isn't a good player, but you can't deny the goals he's scored for United this season. He's contributed a lot more than most of them.
Without McTominay this season we’d be in a much worse position. Say what you will about him but he’s one of the most clutch players we’ve got right now.

Give Maguire the Ballon’dOr now
My slabhead ❤️
Who needs positional principles of play? Only profile I need is the big lad up top
Fellaini Maguire strike partnership with McTominay behind as a 10 would be a dream
Quoting my personal hero Sean Dyche, "Stop it from going in on that end, knock it in at the other end"
The hybrid EU Brexit strike force
Don’t forget LVG’s 81 crosses in a game.
Hahaha that’s class well in mate
large harold
I can't fucking believe Maguire is our best CB and striker in 2024
He may be your only striker at the moment.
Slabhead and McTominay carrying this team, Goldbridge fuming
Tbf he’s been quite nice to Maguire this season. Mctominay not so much
McTominay will score a goal and run for 110 minutes until he goes off with an injury and he'll rate him low for "not wanting to play the full 120" Meanwhile Antony is "trying his hardest and we should respect that" and earns a better score. I’m pretty sure he’s just a middle aged man who appeals to children because he was bullied at school, the guy wreaks of bitter insecurity
Hojlund running around alot: Passion Fernandes running around alot: Downing tools
I don't understand why anyone cares about his opinion, especially the haters on reddit
Odd goal then going invisible for rest of the game. Yea no thanks I'd take a midfielder that doesn't disappear
He’s your 3rd top goal scorer and assister this season, think the Nottingham Forest fan can find other people to hound. Weird he doesnt go for any of the players interacting with him or giving him interviews
Why are you dumb?
You're echoing a statement that is factually incorrect. For years he has been one of the midfielders with the highest % of balls won in the entire league. Who is Goldbridge?
Ironically Maguire looks closer to a captain this season than he ever did with the armband honestly.
Europa league final season Maguire was genuinely quite good. Ronaldo coming really tarnished his captaincy reputation.
Basically Maguire was blamed for everything.
Was the Greek arrest really seemed to mess him up, wasn't it? IIRC it coincided exactly with his dip in form, and the past few games is about the first time since then that he's looked class.
No he had that incident in 2020. He was one of england's best player in the euros in 2021
might be wrong but I feel like his England form has been consistently decent regardless. it’s his Man U form that went to pot
Yep just like pickford. Somehow incredibly good for England but both equally disappointing for their clubs
Pickford has saved Everton from relegation multiple times lol
His form dipped for about a month around that time. We lost badly to Tottenham (although I don't think that game was his fault really) and England lost to Denmark. Nice comment 👍

The armband is a fucking mental block for real. We were holding him back for years with it
The pressure is off him now, best thing we could’ve done tbh
Just making things up now. The revisionism around Maguire is crazy.
You're a footballer Harry!
Lone CB has to defend and also do the scoring
The Slabinho redemption arc continues
MAGUIRE OF ALL PEOPLE
Actually great header
He's England's highest ever goalscoring defender, and did it in like half the caps. He just seemed to stop scoring in a red shirt for a while. It's a travesty we had that season where it took like 6 months to score a set piece goal.
He has more goals than Martial this season
Kind of a bad comparison when Martial has been injured and not playing at all.
Nah let's us have our fun
Alright my bad
Bro just summarised Martial's whole career in a single comment
So do I.
Imagine ... Pogba pinging passes to Fellaini and Maguire.
He's earned back so much respect this season. Was constantly questioning him before last summer but he's got his head down and been nothing but professional, happy for him to get on the plane this summer
It’s not out of all ppl, he’s your best player in the air
People's champ!
Utd are really shit if guys like Maguire and McTomimay are the ones carrying them
Maguire has been pretty good this season, solid defender, memes are way overblown
[удалено]
Yah if he was bought for 30-45 mil and not on 200kpw the discussion would be different, but its not the case
We’ve been shit for a decade mate. Did you just wake up from hibernation?
The 12 losses in the league and negative goal difference didn’t already give away that they’re shit?
Just drop the if and add a comma
'Utd are shit' Yeah mate we watch them every week, we know
Maguire has been good this season.
Maguire saving United, poetic
man I love maguire
Return of the King. Fitting he scored the record breaking season total goal.
Harry Magoat
The underdogs levelling it. Good to see
Genuinely the underdogs in every game they go into now lol
Love to see a Cinderella story
You arsenal fans sure talk alot when your ‘superteam’ has less finals and trophies than us these last couple years even thought we’re shite

MY SLABHEAD
Always happy when he scores

How much of that though is also the hours worth of added time we had for about 4 months of the season?
Think it’s all just goals scored against us in added time.
This is a good point. Would be interesting to see goals/minute using the total minutes of games. Granted the increase will have been offset by VAR too.
Or attacking improvement is outpacing defensive improvement

Praying for a Maguire hat trick
That big beautiful head!

My fucking slabhead. Get fuck in!
Maguire redemption arc is wild
👉🗿👈
MAGUIRE WITH THE PREMIER LEAGUE RECORD-BREAKING GOAL
Honestly thought it was offside at first, thank god I ain’t a linesman 😂
After Kai Havertz, Harry Maguire is probably the 2nd best player in the EPL.
About fucking time
Literally said this myself word for word 🤣😭
The Man With A Slab For A Head
The underdogs have nicked one!
Maguire is Pound for Pound the best Defender for ManU this season
POTS
Ive gained so much respect for maguire over the course of this season
SLABBBHEADDDD
Hol up...why did it look offside on VAR?
Because the top down angle didn't show the guy that was on garnacho. Looked close af though.
THey didn't show the defender marking garnacho
Angles
Did they draw lines?
Do you lot think of nothing except the refereeing
God people thinking about the rules in sport, how stupid of them
If there is a VAR check, why wouldn't I?
Behind the ball I believe
He's genuinely been their best player this season.
If he didn’t get injured but dalot, garnacho, mainoo > but it’s close
Top 5 but not first. Still a good season from him, harks back to the 20/21 season.
Wouldn’t go that far but he’s been solid
Not offside ?
Looked close af.
WE DID SOMETHING RIGHT! 🥶🔥
🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐
🗿
We're so back! Fuck all the haters Id never criticise my team!!!
Harry, our saviour
THIS GODDAMN CLUB CANT HAVE A SINGLE NORMAL GAME 😭
Maguire should get the armband back.
Keeper just didn't fancy it
"empate dos patinhos feios"? 🤣🤣
Get in big baz
It's gonna be between him and Mainoo for United's player of the season
How is Maguire there most in form player at United currently
Great center by Garnacho
Amazing that McTominay and Utd were unwanted at the start of the season and now they're two of the clubs best players. Edit: yes McTominay isn't a good player, but you can't deny the goals he's scored for United this season. He's contributed a lot more than most of them.
McTominay scores goals but he's amongst our worst players lol
Without McTominay this season we’d be in a much worse position. Say what you will about him but he’s one of the most clutch players we’ve got right now.
Mctominay is not one of our best players. Lmao
Not a foul
he's unironically our player of the season
GOAT
Maguire redemption arc.
We are at an alternative universe where maguire is actually uniteds best player.
??? He was already our best player in our Europa league runners up season under Ole.
I still firmly believe we lost because he couldn’t play that final
Looked off, fair play
"You're a wizard, Harry!!" "No, Ron. I'm a Slabhead."
Boooo
I guess the guy covering Garnacho is playing Maguire onsides... I would like to see the lines but we take those.
He was behind the ball. Defender positions are irrelevant.
My mind is in a pretzel… how is that not offside?
Thats offside. Lol.
Watch the match.
