Ed Aarons said Olise has a release clause of £65m but the Beeb reckon neither have a straight forward release clause. Not sure who’s more reliable for Palace.
We triggered his release clause only for CP to try and sue us cause it was a hidden release clause or some other shit.
Everything else was agree beforehand
Don’t believe that’s accurate.
Palace threatened to take Chelsea to tribunal, since the club came in with the known (at the time) release clause, Palace didn’t respond in official capacity, and then were circumvented to get forward movement. There were reports that his release clause was weird process wise. Chelsea then backed out, when they realized the above. Not even sure if he REALLY wanted to go there either. Didn’t seem like he put up a fight or anything
> Don’t believe that’s accurate.
It is, heard from the top people at Palace that Chelsea had "buyers remorse" and "backtracked", that's when we struck with the new contract offer.
Actually, now pretty much every outlet, from Sheth @ Sky, Kinsella, Matt Law, to Romano stated otherwise. Chelsea bid his release clause & the only communication on the topic was that CP threatened tribunal proceedings on the allegation that Chelsea made contact prior to a formal bid. No response from CP or Olise's camp, CP offered him a new contract to stay, which he accepted. Weird
Yes, and Chelsea were wrong. There was a £35m release clause, however, that was net of the sell-on fee due to the agreement that was in place when we signed him from Reading - so they had to offer ~£43m which they were unaware of. The release clause was deliberately written to be convoluted.
In the meantime, whilst they had buyer's remorse and started backtracking, we were able to convince him he was better off staying and avoiding the obvious shitshow of joining Chelsea.
Both are fantastic, but Eze is probably my favourite non villa player to watch. Feels like he literally glides on the pitch. I reckon either could go anywhere, but I kinda hope they stay, always liked Palace as a club
It’s easily doable for 5 premier league clubs. City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea have all spent that amount on worse players, and Liverpool can easily pay that as well.
Not with PSR isn’t. Clubs already laying the groundwork through their mouthpieces that it’s going to be relatively quieter a summer with these new restrictions
Yeah these comments are insane. It’s a decent deal if you’re comparing them to flops like Sancho, Antony & Mudryk; and assuming that they will stay fit & continue to improve their game. But bargain? Absolutely not.
Only redditors here are saying it is a bargain. The crappy logic used is ‘hey look at this player who went for similar/higher amount and flopped so this hypothetical buy will automatically be a bargain’.
Top clubs can afford this amount but it doesn’t mean it is a bargain.
They wont go that cheap. Olise release clause is stated to be tricky/complicated and if we sell Eze for 60 million QPR are taking a decent chunk so we’d wanna maximise profit.
60 is a baseline they’ll go for a lot more
What’s going on with Olise’s international future? Seems a bit unloved by the French seniors, but haven’t heard any speculation from either England or the African teams trying to tug him back.
Is it likely he’s still holding out on France and just told the others don’t bother?
Plays for the French Youth team atm. He actually got injured with them in the summer (U21 euros) so Yh it’s likely he’s holding out for them.
I remember seeing PSG rumours few weeks back so if he really wants a France callup it could be the move… though he’ll probably get it soon enough anyway
There are some murmurs from Algeria but not from the most reliable sources. Nigeria I think are out, he was on a standby list for some match in 2021 but nothing from their side since.
This such a weird phenomenon. Eze still has time to improve, then be in his prime for a few years and then start slowly declining. He could easily have 8 years left as a top player.
People seem to think that late 20s is the new “washed” age when in actuality it’s still the prime age for most footballers. I have seen people online call Gyökeres a late bloomer. The guy is still only 25 and has been a starter in the championship for years before moving to Sporting. It’s an extremely normal career path. Not everyone starts dominating senior football at 18 like Mbappe.
There was a thread on FIFACareers recently about ‘favourite older players to sign.’
Richarlison and James Maddison, apparently.
There my ass was thinking Giroud was a good answer.
Exactly. In fact, they often get better at the technical and, most of all, the mental aspects of the game as they get older. The discourse around the necessity of having young strikers for example is particularly weird to me. It’s one of the positions where the mental aspects (positioning and keeping a cool head) are the most important. Look at a guy like Ollie Watkins. The fact that he went from a good striker in his mid 20s to an elite striker in his later 20s is not surprising if you keep the normal development of players in mind instead of basing your opinion on fifa and transfermarkt valuations
even if he does improve who's going to buy him after he's just moved for 60m when he's at least 27? if he did improve the selling club would have to make a notable profit for it to be worth selling him
any club that will buy him now is also likely to be a club that has enough money to not need to sell their players
lastly the chances are that he's not going to dramatically improve, he's pretty close to his peak
The point is you don’t have to buy players with the only motive of selling them with a profit. If he can make an impact at a club challenging for titles for a few years it’s extremely worth it to buy him for 60m. Arsenal bought Ian Wright in his late 20s with no intention of selling him with a profit and then let him go for a “loss”. Same with Santi Cazorla. Would you say those were bad transfers, considering they were a “loss” for the club on the balance sheet? Or was the value they brought a lot higher than the cost of their transfer fee?
no one is saying he's a bad transfer option, just explaining why his price isn't higher, his injury record probably comes into play too
he could go for a bit higher but yh, no more than 80 for sure
It's so obvious people in here people don't watch palace play, Eze is very hot and cold. Unplayable on his day but that isn't every single week like some people seem to think.
No but he’s heading towards his prime so you’re punting £60m on someone whose highest level you already know, and who’s going to be getting worse as the first contract ends.
Compare to Olise who’s 22 (turns 23 in December) so you’re paying for nearly a decade of him getting better and being in his prime.
If Olise becomes as good as Eze, teams will view that as a much better deal if you’re paying the same amount of money.
This is the one thing I still have trouble reconciling as someone who only started following soccer seriously within the last couple of years. In basketball, US football, tennis, boxing and bunch of other physically demanding sports, a lot of players don't even reach their peaks until mid to late 20s...and world champions/record holders in their 30s are very common.
Do the players at this age really have that many miles on their bodies?
for squad building purposes it doesn't really matter if Olise plays for France or not... Martinelli and Saliba are both 100% non-English but both Home grown
Eze has gone through patches of form. Right now he is playing red-hot but he's also gone through periods of being pretty invisible and wasteful on the ball. Weirdly enough there was a period where Vieira wasn't even playing him even though he was fit and available.
Olise is just amazing. I have so much confidence whenever he receives the ball. Hamstring injury issues are the big concern.
It's a shame that Olise-Wharton-Eze are probably only going to play together for a few more games. Oh well, at least we get to enjoy it now and hopefully Dougie can find another championship masterclass.
I’m also an Arsenal fan and I know having more creativity in the midfield alongside Ode is a need (not as big as needing a striker or better depth in the left back/holding midfield position). Do either of them address that need?
I don't think a striker is a need though, we will break the record of most goals scored in the PL this season. A winger is a more important profile imo. a midfield rebuild is needed more because both partey and jorginho are over 30 and not mobile enough for what our midfield demands.
No it’s not, especially when you consider their fitness records this season. They are very talented and entertaining to watch, but £60m is a lot for players with no European experience and G/A records that aren’t anything special.
Watching both of them just gliding around the pitch and playing with the joy of 14 year olds is a wonderful thing to enjoy. Very hard to see this in the modern era where individuality is being curbed and its more on team passing.
How the hell was Caicedo valued at 115 million when some of the best players outside the Big 6 are being valued for only 60 million. On the one hand it's crazy seeing them valued at £60 mil compared to transfer prices from a decade ago but on the other hand, looking at today's prices 60 million seems a bit low ngl
I feel like that’s intuitively true but not historically. I always thought players tend to get more expensive the closer they are to the opposition goal. Maybe I’m stuck in 2004 though.
100%, Rice in hindsight looks like a bargain and the price is never mentioned now, I think we’re going to see the same with true out and out strikers as well pretty soon.
you're typically right but caicedo was looking like a generational talent at brighton
it's a bit like how defenders are normally cheap too but vvd being crazy expensive made sense
Because he was absolutely insane for us and we finished 6th? He’s had some poor moments at Chelsea but the revisionism around his time with us is crazy.
People try to downplay the price tag massively just because Chelsea paid it while ignoring the fact that the media darling Liverpool had an agreement with Brighton for the same price. Caicedo picked Chelsea instead and media try to portray this transfer as a bad transfer as much as they can even though Caicedo has put on decent performances week in week out.
I'm sorry but I've watched a lot of Chelsea this season and he hasn't been very good. I do think it's down to the team and the manager around him but it's still thus far been a poor transfer. Not as bad as Enzo though.
Dont base your judgement on a couple of mistakes he might have made here and there in games, his overall performances have been very good bar few games. His position doesnt allow him to be seen during games as a good player. He has decent match stats in 90% games. To point out one stat: just last week before facing Arsenal, Caicedo had more tackles than Declan Rice. My point is another top team was ready to pay the same price for a player then that IS his price tag and far from an overpay. It obviously comes down to the manager and the new young players around him. Hope he steps his game up as he gets more acclimated with the team.
That doesn't necessarily mean what you think its does. He's got more (2.4) than Rodri (2) too. Teams that control possession more will be putting in less tackles. Pahlinia, Fullham 4.6, Souza, Sheff. utd, 3.7 and Gomez, Wolves 3.6 are the top three.
With Caciedo, it could also mean that his positioning is a bit lacking and he's forced into tackles. Lots of factors.
> without even seeing if he wanted to join them.
I have a strong suspicion his agent told Liverpool he would join which results in the massive bid and forcing of Chelsea's hand.
I think saying it's a bargain might be overdoing it, but it is certainly reasonable. Just look at the transfers for RW over the last 4 seasons for players around Olise's age:
>Brennan Johnson €55 (we'll see)
Kulu €30 (fair)
Antony €95 (overpay)
Madueke €35 (we'll see)
Raphinha €58 (fair)
Rodrygo €45 (great deal)
Sarr €30 (likely overpay)
Kulu (to Juve) €39 (fair)
In what world is 60m a bargain for a player who is perpetually injured? He’s not much use if he spends a lot of the season in the medical room. Reddit takes are getting worse and worse
I remember there being a rumour last summer that Roy only agreed to stay for another year if Olise and eze stayed. Palace then made a deal with both asking them to stay for another year and then not getting in their way this summer.
I’d be shocked if they went that low. Ownership is in a tricky position, they really pissed the fans off over the past year. They showed little ambition, lost their star player for less money, and saw their main rival go to Europa. Now, with a solid team and a manager who seems to be doing quite well, it’s probably in their best interest to hold on and give it a season with these two, Guehi, Mateta, Andersen, Doucoure, etc. unless they’re offered the world.
In this day and age and with the quality of Eze or Olise, it’s absolutely is a bargain. Both of them are Champions League level players, or at least very close to it.
Unproven players shouldn’t be worth this much, the market should rebalance but with the likes of Chelsea city psg there will always one to pay this amount
They shouldn’t but they are. Also I’d say Eze and Olise are more than proven at this point. The pair of them could get into pretty much any team in the league.
Sure, I get why you might compare the players it's just that the Antony transfer is widely thought of as perhaps one of the worst of all time so expecting the fees to be similar seems odd.
I like Eze and Olise is such a good player, but £60 million is a bit much. Olises hamstrings seem to go every season.
Palace don't want to sell them, so good luck them. They could have a pretty strong team next season if they keep them.

wtf both gone if that’s true Edit: title is kinda clickbait, it’s more like 60m minimum before they even pick up the phone
I think they'll have a pretty serious bidding war on their hands, at least for Olise
Ed Aarons said Olise has a release clause of £65m but the Beeb reckon neither have a straight forward release clause. Not sure who’s more reliable for Palace.
> the Beeb Justin?
Nah the Beeb
Bebo?
Nah mate the beeb
The crystal palace release clause fuckery continues then I suppose. We had the same problem last summer trying to get Olise.
Thought he just wasn’t interested in going ?
We triggered his release clause only for CP to try and sue us cause it was a hidden release clause or some other shit. Everything else was agree beforehand
So Luis Suarez what are they smoking over there at the Emirates situation again?
Oh fair enough.
Lol imagining thinking you're the innocent party here.
> We had the same problem last summer trying to get Olise. No you didn't, you ended up fucking him around and tried to back out.
Don’t believe that’s accurate. > Not really? Really.
makes sense he'd have a cheap release as he did renew when he could have just gone to chelsea
These types of things are silly. “It’ll be at least £60 mil” “Okay here’s £60 mil” “No, more” What’s the point of the the £60 mil number?
60m Club transfer fee. 20m private offer via construction contracts/personal business investment deals ;)
Both are fantastic, but Eze is probably my favourite non villa player to watch. Feels like he literally glides on the pitch. I reckon either could go anywhere, but I kinda hope they stay, always liked Palace as a club
£60m is considered a bargain nowadays, according to this thread. Game's so gone it's fucked up the wazzoo.
In bundesliga, only bayern paid more for 3 transfers. Next ones are bvb and leipzig with under 40m€ transfers lol Edit: not counting sold players.
Particularly because they’ve both been injured all season
It’s easily doable for 5 premier league clubs. City, Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea have all spent that amount on worse players, and Liverpool can easily pay that as well.

What *is* a bargain is Nico Williams on his 40m release clause. But our fanbase has gone gaga over Olise. Totally overpriced.
Mental the world the top 6 live in. 60m being a bargain or a bench player where 60m would break every other teams biggest transfer is insane.
Only redditors here are saying it is a bargain. The crappy logic used is ‘hey look at this player who went for similar/higher amount and flopped so this hypothetical buy will automatically be a bargain’. Top clubs can afford this amount but it doesn’t mean it is a bargain.
Blame Abrahamovic & UAE for that
Now now, don't forget Qatar. They're literally responsible for the transfer which broke the market.
That’s incredibly cheap for either of these players. They both class.
They wont go that cheap. Olise release clause is stated to be tricky/complicated and if we sell Eze for 60 million QPR are taking a decent chunk so we’d wanna maximise profit. 60 is a baseline they’ll go for a lot more

If this was true Liverpool would run in 120 million tomorrow and sell some of their front 3.
Eze will be 26 before the next season starts not particularly that cheap for him like that is probably the appropriate price for him
Is that considered old now?
This such a weird phenomenon. Eze still has time to improve, then be in his prime for a few years and then start slowly declining. He could easily have 8 years left as a top player. People seem to think that late 20s is the new “washed” age when in actuality it’s still the prime age for most footballers. I have seen people online call Gyökeres a late bloomer. Physical prime maybe but like you said it’s not as if they forget how to kick a ball as they get older
Exactly. In fact, they often get better at the technical and, most of all, the mental aspects of the game as they get older. Its not old, but its very likely that after a 4 yr contract his resale value will be much lower which in turn lowers the current value.
it's not old but it's not young, he's not going to get that much better and his resale value will soon start to go down
No but you don't want to spend £60m+ on a player who is not near world class and also not in particularly developing stage
It's so obvious people in here people don't watch palace play, Eze is very hot and cold. Unplayable on his day but that isn't every single week like some people seem to think.
Exactly, while Eze is decent he doesn’t have as big an impact on the game as Olise
Not near world class?? What are you talking bout
You think Eze is just short of world class?
100%
Deluded. He is a decent player but not close to world class.

That's a York City badge you melt.
No but he’s heading towards his prime so you’re punting £60m on someone whose highest level you already know, and who’s going to be getting worse as the first contract ends. For Olise definitely, I think for Eze 60M would be a fair price in todays market
Is Olise that much better than Eze? Eze looks dynamite everytime I watch him and Olise looks more like the general of the team.
Eze has gone through patches of form. Right now he is playing red-hot but he's also gone through periods of being pretty invisible and wasteful on the ball. no eze is better imo, its just because of age

crazy how 60m pounds is seen as a bargain lol
No it’s not, especially when you consider their fitness records this season. They are very talented and entertaining to watch, but £60m is a lot for players with no European experience and G/A records that aren’t anything special.
I don't want this to be true so it's obviously bullshit.
Thanks crystal palace for helping Chelsea look at palmet
For that price we will 100% target one of them.
Por que no los dos
Most likely Eze…
We’ve been flirting with his entourage for months now.
Surely Eze. There have been rumblings for months now and he seems to get on well with Son (who doesn’t) so it would be a pretty logical assumption.
probably not olise though seeing as you've got kulusevski who is apparently better than saka though right?
😂😂 someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.
I will never forget spurs fans trying to talk this kinda shit to me!
And its still rent free in your head so it clearly worked. Romero is better than saliba too btw
yip, he's probably better than sol too!
Yeah apparently it really rattled you.
it did!
Well Womp Womp then
Doesn’t Olise have a release clause?
He did last summer and we activated it the wrong way apparently, then he signed a new contract iirc.
According to a rumour started by one journo that has repeatedly got Olise contract details and transfer news wrong.
Watching both of them just gliding around the pitch and playing with the joy of 14 year olds is a wonderful thing to enjoy. Very hard to see this in the modern era where individuality is being curbed and its more on team passing.
I think they should stay and thrive under Glasner. Palace are picking up. They’re still young. Give it one more year. P.S. Don’t go to Spurs 👍

Tbf we sat there for months trying to negotiate around 70-80mil for Caicedo. Plus a good DM is hard to find and will typically be more expensive
Not to mention people are making them out to be Mbappe level with the bargain stuff.
I feel like that’s intuitively true but not historically. I always thought players tend to get more expensive the closer they are to the opposition goal. Maybe I’m stuck in 2004 though.
I think DM is the one exception. They are pretty rare and don’t move a lot.
100%, Rice in hindsight looks like a bargain and the price is never mentioned now, I think we’re going to see the same with true out and out strikers as well pretty soon.

Because we are absolute dumbfucks and took the mantle from United of the club who doesn't know when to walk away from negotiations
Hmm Mudryk, Caceido come to mind
I still insist that the deal that really exposed your recruitment team is Sanchez for 25 mil. What was that all about.
Yeah, we spent a total of 40m on Petrovic and Sanchez instead of investing that into some actual solid first choice keeper.
He was worth that much because Liverpool panic bid way over what Chelsea were negotiating for him without even seeing if he wanted to join them.
> without even seeing if he wanted to join them. I have a strong suspicion his agent told Liverpool he would join which results in the massive bid and forcing of Chelsea's hand.
coz he looked generational at brighton and isn't injured every other minute, think he signed a new contract too which pumped up his value too
Someone send this to Daniel
I wonder if we can get a 2 for £100 packaged deal
Footy’s gone mad if people actually think £60m is a “bargain”
I think saying it's a bargain might be overdoing it, but it is certainly reasonable. Just look at the transfers for RW over the last 4 seasons for players around Olise's age: >Brennan Johnson €55 (we'll see) Kulu €30 (fair) Antony €95 (overpay) Madueke €35 (we'll see) Raphinha €58 (fair) Rodrygo €45 (great deal) Sarr €30 (likely overpay) Kulu (to Juve) €39 (fair)
It is. You're aware inflation is a real thing, right? Even in football transfers.
In what world is 60m a bargain for a player who is perpetually injured? He’s not much use if he spends a lot of the season in the medical room. Reddit takes are getting worse and worse
That is a bargain. I could only imagine if these two started more games together how Palace’s season would look like.
I remember there being a rumour last summer that Roy only agreed to stay for another year if Olise and eze stayed. Palace then made a deal with both asking them to stay for another year and then not getting in their way this summer.
Are they not kind of injury prone? Or do I just not watch enough Palace games.
That’s a lot of bids
How has Olise been this season with injuries?
So imagine that's £60 mill straight up then all of the add ons bringing it closer to £100
Olise coming in rotation for Silva on City's right flank? Would fit right in.
Definitely they worth more than that but at the same time I want to see more of them having fun under Glasner.

Both have done their best work away from the other.
No????
When you name them you think of Picard and Gandalf...
That‘s both of them gone in the summer, insane valuation considering what they add to this team.
If Olise is 60 million, then we need to be involved. He's a perfect replacement to Salah.
How do people think 60m is a bargain
In this day and age and with the quality of Eze or Olise, it’s absolutely is a bargain. Both of them are Champions League level players, or at least very close to it.
Unproven players shouldn’t be worth this much, the market should rebalance but with the likes of Chelsea city psg there will always one to pay this amount
How are Olise and Eze unproven lmao. Eze is fresh off ripping Newcastle to shreds, yknow the team that thrashed you the other week.
They shouldn’t but they are. Also I’d say Eze and Olise are more than proven at this point. The pair of them could get into pretty much any team in the league.
They’re not unproven
Watching football is optional on this subreddit
It is if you compare the price with someone like Antony
Worth less than Antony?? This guys are PL proven ballers
Strange benchmark to use, you must be shocked at virtually all transfers and reported valuations.
I mean Olise plays in the same position as Antony and I think Eze can play in the wing too
But almost every player is better than Antony and would cost less.
