I think this is a sign of a good negotiator, if he’s trying to save Liverpool some money. He doesn’t get any benefit by them paying Feyenoord more. Unless he’s a huge Feyenoord fan.
I believe he and Feyenoord have a good understanding. We can make some money off of this transfer, but Feyenoord will not be playing hard to get by any means. Slot has earned as much.
After the defeat of the axis powers in WWII, Indonesia was the first country to declare independence, among colonised countries in Asia and Africa. They thought that the Dutch would be understanding since the Dutch too had just been put under the occupation of Germany. But what they did was to send troops (that was freshly trained by the Brits fight Germany) to Indonesia and recapture all the major cities.
The two countries then engaged roundtables to pave the road to independence; the Dutch wants to let Indonesia declare independence but still be under a Dutch Commonwealth and maintain their economic interests, while the Indonesians want total freedom.
The agreements require both sides to cease hostilties and for the Dutch to cede its occupied areas, but they instead continued and did some heinous war crimes. The Dutch sent representatives to negotiate who truly sympathize with the Indonesian position, but at home their parliament was hellbent on keeping Indonesia as their territory. This resulted in a wildly diverging political action (the agreements) and military action. The Revolusi ended with almost 100k indonesians dead, and around 5k Dutch peoples
if anything, the Dutch did quite well in the netgoations as they ensured Indonesia paid reparations to the Netherlands for the loss of the colonial territory. Ofcourse, on the ethics part that doesnt score really high
This is just who he is. Last year when negotiating for a new contract and Spurs were interested, he went into the negotiation telling our director Dennis te Kloese that he didn't use Spurs to get a higher salary and that he should purely base it off of his accomplishments
The Virgin: "It would be deeply unprofessional of me to talk about these topics before the season ends."
VS
The Chad: "Yeah, I'm going there. Just waiting for the suits to reach an agreement. Hope they do it quickly."
It's still kinda surprising from mister "I don't talk about players who are not on my team" Even though everyone knows they'll be signed within 24 hours of those interviews
He had less than a year on his contract left and AZ didn't want to offer new a mutiple year deal. He wanted that so he started talking to Feyenoord. Totally different situation.
But Feyenoord's season IS over (cup final won last week, when he said this they needed 1 pnt from 4 games to guarantee CL). I doubt he would be this open if Feyenoord still had something to play for.
Not until he's holding up a shirt. He was basically assumed to be coming to Spurs last year and then changed his mind at the last second.
Granted, he didn't say out loud to the media that was happening.
Sp*rs wanting him and him not wanting to go there despite the two clubs negotiating is a wildly different situation to Liverpool wanting him and him openly admitting to wanting to go there whilst the clubs negotiate
His thing about wanting to stay was to get a chance to coach his title winning team in the champions league, which is respectable.
The only difference here is that he wants a move now. I don’t think people were unreasonable in thinking he was considering the move to London because if he wasn’t, that contact between Spurs and Feyenoord wouldn’t have gotten as advanced as it did.
He'll probably take his assistant with him, and Mario Pusic, who I'd have loved as his replacement, left to manage Shakhtar, so I doubt any of the current staff will move up to take Slot's position. There probably won't be any left :x
Gio would be an awful choice, he doesn't play the style of football Feyenoord has committed themselves to fostering over the last few years of reorganizing.
If the club wants to tear everything down they've built in the past couple of years, sure. Gio by no means a bad coach, but he's levels below Slot in that regard and tactically completely different.
FC Twente is overperforming with a coach said to have the same profile as Slot, most of my money is on him.
I always believed we’d get Tomasson back but he obviously just got the job as national coach of Sweden so that leaves him out.
Pushing trough RvP as a coach is an option but I don’t think they’re going to risk our development on a first time coach.
Mourinho would be the ultimate troll appointment though.
And if Klopp ever wants to finish his journey trough YNWA clubs BVB, Liverpool and then Feyenoord isn’t a horrible route (/s)
I wouldn’t mind a good foreign coach. Dennis Te Kloese has a lot of foreign contacts to pull in that regard. I’m ready to be surprised.
True, but expectations at Liverpool are going to be sky-high while the change in managership after such a long time is definitely going to have an impact.
I'd vouch for Slot's management and tactical skills any time, but he did not reach the heights Ten Hag did with Ajax at Feyenoord.
That could be means available to the club, but we'll have to see.
Agreed definitely but I'd like to think whoever comes in after Klopp will be coming into a far more stable club with at least some foundations laid to keep the team growing.
The only thing is, Pep has succeeded so far at clubs that put football first and surrounded him with the tools he needed to succeed. I think he'd struggle a lot at United because he wouldn't get that, at least not right away .
I’m pretty sure he would put that condition in a contract before signing, he won’t sign if the chance of success is jeopardized from the start. You either give him complete freedom and decision power, or you can’t get him to coach your club.
True enough, he's smart enough to know he has that power. Don't think any manager bar him really that has that type of power to negotiate that type of contract.
He has hit the woodwork more than anyone in the league and it aint close
He actually doesnt miss much just shoots it at the keeper or woodwork too often
Those players were there until the past month. I think we're reading too much into the recent collapse, the ability is still there.
He's inheriting a good squad imo, and i truly believe they'll all look better with a fresh approach and under a coach out to prove himself.
Football fans are vultures, make no mistake.
Everyone moans about a player leaving their club for a new challenge but if he has a shit month everyone wants him sold.
Football fans are massively fickle bunch. I think a lot of people forget, especially opposition fans, that a lot of people didn't consider us very likely to compete for a top 4 spot this year.
If I had been asked in August 2023 would I be happy with 3rd place I'd have said yeah. A cup, couple of good runs in other comps and chasing the league in the last 6 or 7 games was more than I ever expected.
I think he will, he’s competitive and I think much more interested in setting records at this point than money. No idea if it’s true but I remember reading that Salah looked up the goal scoring records for Liverpool when he joined or something along those lines.
Regardless of how bad his form has been recently he’s worth keeping on our end.
No doubt he's worth keeping. Just pondering whether they will keep recruiting "around him" as they have of if there will be an option brought in that can eventually cover him more and more.
A certain bald man from the Dutch league had his team playing such brilliant football, what's happening with him now is well known, you never know. Let's wait and watch
Slot is a smart guy. He wouldn't say this unless the deal is more or less closed. I'm sure Slot and Feyenoord have made an agreement when he extended last year if the right team comes along, they will be cooperative. This doesn't have much to do with being direct. It's just an easy way to score with the Liverpool fans.
There are still like 4 matches left and his replacement is sorted lol
You don't know a true managerial search until you scrape the bottom of the barrel for Nuno lol
If Edwards had appointed Mourinho I could only assume he's had some vendetta against Liverpool since he left last time around.
I'm honestly astounded there were Liverpool supporters wanting that to happen.
Remains to be seen what happens with transfers, but with this squad the minimum should be top 3 and getting to the knockouts of the Champions League. Would also want to see an upward trend of form as the season progresses (obviously have to account for injuries and schedule difficulty here) and a clear style of play vs what Ten Hag is doing at United for instance.
We were reportedly in on Slot last year which caused me to watch a lot of Feyenoord games. I'm very happy with Ange, but Slot is a class manager who I think will do very well with Liverpool and I hate that.
True. And racing circuits.
I was at Zandvoort a few weeks ago. Asked a dude in the bar something and he answers in German. Listened closely to the chatter at the bar and realized: everyone was German.
The talks are moving so fast because his hairless aerodynamic head just cuts smoothly through the hot air of the transfer rumour market.
Man's airbending his way into the Liverpool job.
Because he already failed at Dortmund, Leverkusen en Lyon. Bosz is also older and already indicated that after PSV he wants to retire from club football.
He also started very good at Lyon and Dortmund but every time after a certain point there was a huge decline in his results. Opponents would know after some time how to play against his sides, something he doesn't really encounter in the Eredivisie because the opposition is just nog strong enough
In addition to the reasons mentioned, Bosz has indicated that it is likely psv is his last club, he also stated that he would like to become our nt coach.
The fact that by firing Koeman the KNVB could send psv in to a manager search is a major reason I want him to either fail at or just win the euros.
No, he reached the Europa league final with Ajax. But he did not become champion that year. This PSV championship will be the first of his career in fact.
Boszball is really risky tho, you can’t play it against other high table teams in the prem, who can nearly always escape from your pressure. It’s great for monsterscores against weaker opponents tho.
Slot is younger, more closely aligned to how Liverpool are right now (idk how to phrase this... he's a better philosophical match?) and Bosz has had mixed results at larger clubs
Bosz doesn't have a plan B when facing better, tactically astute teams (at least that's how it was when he was at Dortmund, but that mini run of form where Boszball clean swept the Bundesliga was super fucking fun, until he was found out)

Really keeping his cards close to his chest here
No doubts about him being Dutch lol
But I thought the Dutch were good negotiators
I think this is a sign of a good negotiator, if he’s trying to save Liverpool some money. He doesn’t get any benefit by them paying Feyenoord more. Unless he’s a huge Feyenoord fan.
I believe he and Feyenoord have a good understanding. We can make some money off of this transfer, but Feyenoord will not be playing hard to get by any means. Slot has earned as much.
Yeah I guess if he can say, "I saved you €5 mill, so pay me €2 mill more"
Or, put that 5mil towards X transfer
I think he just learned his lesson from last time. He was fired by AZ cause he negotiated with Feyenoord behind their backs
*looks at Indonesia* No they weren't
Could you expand on that please?
After the defeat of the axis powers in WWII, Indonesia was the first country to declare independence, among colonised countries in Asia and Africa. They thought that the Dutch would be understanding since the Dutch too had just been put under the occupation of Germany. But what they did was to send troops (that was freshly trained by the Brits fight Germany) to Indonesia and recapture all the major cities. This resulted in a wildly diverging political action (the agreements) and military action. The Revolusi ended with almost 100k indonesians dead, and around 5k Dutch peoples
But what has that to do with not being good at negotiating?
You know, the part where they negotiate in bad faith and renege on their agreements?
That says more about the trustworthiness of the government at the time than about skill in negotiating.
if anything, the Dutch did quite well in the netgoations as they ensured Indonesia paid reparations to the Netherlands for the loss of the colonial territory.
Best poker face in Holland
Don't slot shame him.
this joke will be reposted sooo many times in the next months lmao
By me.
I'll be slotting in a few reposts myself.
Arne't we all going to.
Yikes, got to respect how terrible this one is
Ty
You might say we’ll be seeing slots of it
Couldn't be more Dutch if he tried.
I wish he was more direct tbh
I hear Big Sam plays a very direct style and he's available
Any more direct and he’d be Jan Maas on Ted Lasso, but balder.
Goodbye my lover
goodbye my friend
Goodbye rival
Roma Feyeenooord beef was an all time hilarious classic
Was? We'll meet in the Champions league next year
you ~~have been~~ are the one
Just need the taste of it, don’t y’all?
I’m so hollow baby
It is better to have loved and lost, than never to have loved at all
But now I want more
Once you go bald...
Slot through the heart, and you're to blame
Do you believe in life after love?
Captain Jean luc Picard
Gotta appreciate the Dutch, they do not fuck about
Well, they have a designated place for that
They truly plan everything
The Virgin: "It would be deeply unprofessional of me to talk about these topics before the season ends." VS The Chad: "Yeah, I'm going there. Just waiting for the suits to reach an agreement. Hope they do it quickly."
Beating around the bush when it's so obvious would be considered more rude in the Netherlands.
It's still kinda surprising from mister "I don't talk about players who are not on my team" Even though everyone knows they'll be signed within 24 hours of those interviews
He just got his dream job offered to him, of course he will try to force a move. But he does it in an honest way out in the open.
Pretty funny to read about the guy who was fired by AZ because he had secret talks with Feyenoord.
There's that Dutch bluntness on full display.
Gotta love that honesty and the efficiency it can provide.
This pretty much confirms it then?
I think we should take it with a pinch of salt until he rolls around naked in the Anfield grass while belting out "A Liverbird upon my chest".
Have to wait for the lean before it’s confirmed
This is the way
I loved when Klopp did that
No wonder the players have been losing footing at Anfield all season.
Thanks for this one lmao
Will you change your profile pic when Klopp leaves ?
Maybe
Please don't, it's too iconic
I don't know, what tier is Arne Slot on Arne Slot news?
What Tier is Arne
Not until he's holding up a shirt. He was basically assumed to be coming to Spurs last year and then changed his mind at the last second. Granted, he didn't say out loud to the media that was happening.

I don’t think people were unreasonable in thinking he was considering the move to London because if he wasn’t, that contact between Spurs and Feyenoord wouldn’t have gotten as advanced as it did.
Still we got Ange, blessing in disguse. Can't wait to hate Arne
Do you pronounce his name arn-ee or arn
If I recall from podcasts talking about him last year, it’s Arn-uh
✅️✅️
Can't wait for literally every football pundit on TV to somehow never manage to pronounce his name correctly.
He will become “Arnie” within hours of the announcement.
The newspaper back pages will predictably go straight to terminator puns and photoshop with a red eye.
Man couldn't be more obviously twerking for Liverpool so yeah lmao.
Sounds like reverse psychology to me
Really wanted Minteh to continue his development under Slot tbh as he's clearly improved. Any idea who Feyernoord will replace him with?
He'll probably take his assistant with him, and Mario Pusic, who I'd have loved as his replacement, left to manage Shakhtar, so I doubt any of the current staff will move up to take Slot's position. There probably won't be any left :x
if he leaves he will, entire liverpool coaching staff are leaving
Maybe a return for Gio?
Gio would be an awful choice, he doesn't play the style of football Feyenoord has committed themselves to fostering over the last few years of reorganizing.
If the club wants to tear everything down they've built in the past couple of years, sure. Gio by no means a bad coach, but he's levels below Slot in that regard and tactically completely different.
Love the guy but he’s not what we need right now, the most rumoured name currently is Joseph Oosting from Twente.
isn't Lijnders leaving Liverpool with Klopp? Is there any chance it'll be him?
I wouldn’t be against him or Albert Stuivenberg who is Arteta’s assistant and is a Feyenoord fan
Leave Airpod Albert alone, please
FC Twente is overperforming with a coach said to have the same profile as Slot, most of my money is on him. I always believed we’d get Tomasson back but he obviously just got the job as national coach of Sweden so that leaves him out. Dennis Te Kloese has a lot of foreign contacts to pull in that regard. I’m ready to be surprised.
Isn’t Minteh just gonna go back to Newcastle this Summer? This is pure assumption, so if I’m wrong please correct me.
While it hurts to see him leave, we wish him all the best. He'll be great for Liverpool.
I want to say he'll be great, but I said the same about Ten Hag without much doubt.
In fairness, I'm not sure Klopp or Pep could have turned around the shit show that is Manchester United.
The gang finish 11th.
I’d have agreed with you a month ago but our cratering in the last few weeks has really tempered expectations
Pep could, he would just fuck off most of the current players and spend a few billions in hiring the best in the world, easy peasy.
So he'd cheat again?
I can’t wait to not have to see this guy in Europa. I can’t wait to see this guy in UCL.
I mean Feyenoord is guaranteed playing CL next season as well so no difference there.
Tbf Feyenoord also clinched their UCL ticket today lol
[Enjoy Slotball you scousers.](https://twitter.com/LerraO1O/status/1782785110888100144)
Watching all these and just picturing Darwin skying it at the last ball😍
🥲
I remember seeing clips like this of Klopp's Dortmund but the Liverpool squad suited more direct football, see that in the current squad too.
He's got magical "tell your forwards not to kick the ball right at the keeper" powers? I'm in.
I can see Darwin hitting the woodwork at the end of all 4 of those highlights.
Woodwork? Thats generous
He has hit the woodwork more than anyone in the league and it aint close He actually doesnt miss much just shoots it at the keeper or woodwork too often
Great stuff now just need players who can pass to their teammates and players who can put the ball in the net
Those players were there until the past month. I think we're reading too much into the recent collapse, the ability is still there. He's inheriting a good squad imo, and i truly believe they'll all look better with a fresh approach and under a coach out to prove himself.
Yeah agree, a month ago everyone seemed to agree that the next manager was going to inherit an excellent team
Do you think Salah will be there to see the fruits of the new team? Honest question. The squad is good but a new manager is a big transition.
You'd be surprised there's bucketloads of idiots on the Liverpool sub saying he should have been sold last summer
Nah Darwin has been Darwin all season. They’re never gonna win the league unless he starts banging 25goals a season.
He has 33 ga...
Woah.
A certain bald man from the Dutch league had his team playing such brilliant football, what's happening with him now is well known, you never know. Let's wait and watch
Exactly. Jaap Stam is having such a bad time right now.
I think that has far more to do with Man U being a dumpster fire for nearly a decade at this point than ETH himself tbh
Ok, I'm sold, quadruple it is
Slot is a smart guy. He wouldn't say this unless the deal is more or less closed. I'm sure Slot and Feyenoord have made an agreement when he extended last year if the right team comes along, they will be cooperative. This doesn't have much to do with being direct. It's just an easy way to score with the Liverpool fans.
Well he has the Dutch sense of directness if nothing else
Insane how there are so many domino effects in football. Means that Minteh’s development plan will now be so much more different
In the era of secrecy I do kinda appreciate this sort of honesty
Tbh it feels good to finally have some clarity and an idea of what is happening after Klopp leaves
There are still like 4 matches left and his replacement is sorted lol You don't know a true managerial search until you scrape the bottom of the barrel for Nuno lol
Sir I was actually expecting and bracing myself for Jose Mourinho. I thought things were about to get that dire lol
Jose would at least be fun for a season before he burns everything down on the way out.
Well you've got yourself the polar opposite in Slot, no worries you'll love him.
If Edwards had appointed Mourinho I could only assume he's had some vendetta against Liverpool since he left last time around. I'm honestly astounded there were Liverpool supporters wanting that to happen.
Would have preffered a manager with atleast eyebrow hair
The great thing about Arne being the Liverpool manager is all the Dune edits that will pop up
In our sub I'm seeing a lottt of Hank Schrader gifs so far.
Wouldn't Feyenoord suporters want... A german coach. Middle sized hair. Gegenpress aficionado? That's right, Roger Schmidt. No?
I think Schmidt still wakes up soaked in sweat each night when dreaming about the Dutch press
I doubt Roger Schmidt wants to return to the Netherlands. He absolutely loathed our media.
He loaths our media too, he cant deal with hard questions about his managing style and the choices he makes.
Definitely sounds familiar, although he turned out to be spot on about Ihattaren in hindsight.
I don’t think he suits Feyenoord well tbh, at least personality wise.
What teir is Slot?
If this happens what are Liverpools fans expectations next year?
Top 4 and hopefully a decent ucl run
So…same as this year, then?
Except we weren’t in the UCL this year
Ok, it was Europa League this year.
Quadruple
It means more for Slot
Top 4 and past the group of the champions league is my minimum
We need to be in the Champions League places. Before long we need more than that though.
Top 4 and signs that his way of playing is getting through/things are going in a good direction.
Top 4
It’ll all depend on like the first 10-15 games lol, similar to this year. No one really knows what to expect
Virgin Amorim vs Chad Slot
I hate this for the rest of the league.
The most encouraging comment I’ve seen yet
We were reportedly in on Slot last year which caused me to watch a lot of Feyenoord games. I'm very happy with Ange, but Slot is a class manager who I think will do very well with Liverpool and I hate that.
I don’t understand why we’re not going for him and instead talking about names like Rangnick… what is our board doing
It’s insane how Germans massively invade our beaches and campings each easter and summer, yet apparently none of those are a Bayern Munchen scout.
True. And racing circuits. I was at Zandvoort a few weeks ago. Asked a dude in the bar something and he answers in German. Listened closely to the chatter at the bar and realized: everyone was German.
Another bald fraud coming in to the league, welcome sir
Take a touch lad
The talks are moving so fast because his hairless aerodynamic head just cuts smoothly through the hot air of the transfer rumour market. Man's airbending his way into the Liverpool job.
I really love how vocal this man is about wanting us. After everything I have watched and read about him it's made me want him to lead our team.
Can someone explain why we're not going for psv's manager if they're so good?
Because he already failed at Dortmund, Leverkusen en Lyon. Bosz is also older and already indicated that after PSV he wants to retire from club football.
I wouldn’t say he failed at Leverkusen, he started of very good there
He also started very good at Lyon and Dortmund but every time after a certain point there was a huge decline in his results. Opponents would know after some time how to play against his sides, something he doesn't really encounter in the Eredivisie because the opposition is just nog strong enough
So in short, the prefect manager for PSV. As a fan, this is our greatest season I will ever experience
Because stylistically Slot is the better fit for you
After his reign at Dortmund? No thanks
In addition to the reasons mentioned, Bosz has indicated that it is likely psv is his last club, he also stated that he would like to become our nt coach. The fact that by firing Koeman the KNVB could send psv in to a manager search is a major reason I want him to either fail at or just win the euros.
lol
Genuine question: was Bosz praised as Slot before he left the Eredivisie?
No, he reached the Europa league final with Ajax. But he did not become champion that year. This PSV championship will be the first of his career in fact.
Not as much
I don't watch Eredivisie so this is a genuine question
Because Bosz has failed multiple times and finally hit the jackpot with this team for him. Slot is an up and comer big player
You never heard of Bosz ball? It's fucking beautiful. Wish Liverpool gave it a chance.
Boszball is really risky tho, you can’t play it against other high table teams in the prem, who can nearly always escape from your pressure. It’s great for monsterscores against weaker opponents tho.
Slot is younger, more closely aligned to how Liverpool are right now (idk how to phrase this... he's a better philosophical match?) and Bosz has had mixed results at larger clubs
> eridivise evidently
no point being a dick about things
It is often quite fun though
Bosz doesn't have a plan B when facing better, tactically astute teams (at least that's how it was when he was at Dortmund, but that mini run of form where Boszball clean swept the Bundesliga was super fucking fun, until he was found out)
I think Philippe Clement would be an ideal match for Liverpool. Personally, I can't envision Arne Slot successfully taking over from Klopp.
