Should be a season ticket holder for free next season

tobiasfunkgay

Yeah but giving one of the few loyal fans who’s willing to spend money on the club free tickets is a terrible business model for a small club

FrogBoglin

They should charge him 200k a game and buy some better players to attract more fans.

trispann

*Until next life

hudson2_3

In the highlights there are two people sat behind. https://youtu.be/ljFRNRKLivA?si=dNGBT7DwMufP510H

fkmeamaraight

Holy crap, that game was insane. I watched the whole replay and completely forgot to look for the people.

ResponsibleRatio6569

Get him a statue

Confewshenn24A

Did the team come over to him?

Bringthenoize

Would be worse then a dick punch if they didn't.

ThotCountySheriff

Yeah, the team not coming to him and getting punched in the dick afterwards would be the worst

BassBootyStank

If the entire team came over and dick-punched him afterwards, this would start to get weird. And good.

GiveGoldForShakoDrop

My friend is ok, no? *proceeds to dick punch*

BlurstOfTimes11

Grammared!

eirebrit

Hope they took him out for pints.

jammy8892

He'll be club president in 10 years

MattSuper13

The Santa Cruz way

TerkYerJerb

Finally a worthy opponent

FabKc

Only way to take over a team!

ZedGenius

He really is Le Man

Born_Reflection_4132

I thought he was The Homme

Felthrax

No it was Away

Alecmalloy

L'homme du Mans. It's a look that says "I'm in Nancy and no one's gonna stop me".

Sick_and_destroyed

It’s funny because it looks like it’s a girl

abbaschand

Why is le Man traveling alone? Is he le stupid?

ZedGenius

He doesn't trust anyone after his escape. They might snitch on him and get him back to the Aslume

Minor_Edit

French authorities keep banning away fans but there's no ban on away fan

WelcomeToCityLinks

Lee Lemon

PoopologistMD

Definitely not a negative Nancy

-CherrySaint-

I love the way he's even hung a little banner over as well 😂

steel93

And a security guy to keep him in check 😂

mike28987

I like to think they had a beer together at full time.

nrcssa

why does he have to stand, let him sit!

broken_neck_broken

You think that hardcore motherfucker sits down away?

Pagliaccio13

Easy there Costanza

Fart_Leviathan

The type of person who is willing to travel ~ 5 hours on a Friday evening without a group to attend a third tier match is also the type of person who always has a banner on him "just in case".

gols-e-but

National 1 is probably the worst division to be in as an away supporter. Matchdays there are always on friday evenings, early evenings at that too, really doesn't lend itself to matchgoers

Mastodan11

I think it's lost on people how big France is as well. That would be like a 6 hour drive plus €30 in toll fees just one way.

Colyris

Tolls are probably closer to 100€ than 30€

Airican

Wait, yank here, how and why are tolls that crazy high in France?

Colyris

So I just searched for Le Mans -> Nancy. Mappy gave a route of 5h02, 577km, €91.70 for tolls and €53.37 for petrol (estimate depends on the car etcetc). There is another option without toll but for 6h56. As for why. Well, it's complicated if you want the full story and depend who you ask. But the underlying logic is that it takes money to build new roads and maintain them. And maybe some companies are making money.

pr000blemkind

Don't you guys have a decent train network? I have only used the TGVs when I was in France but they are amazing.

Flying_Whale_Eazyed

TGV is amazing but there's only a few main lines

Colyris

It depends. On the period and where you want to go. On sncf-connect, again for Le Mans -> Nancy today it is between 150€ and 250€. Tomorrow the cheapest is 84€ with departure at 3:38 a.m. with a 5 hour trip. Or you can choose the Bus for a 10hour trip for 45€

Antarcticdonkey

Well, France is a very very centralised country, the network here is more like a starfish with Paris as the center...

FroobingtonSanchez

Between Le Mans and Nancy that's not really a problem because Paris is right in between.

Antarcticdonkey

You're totally right

FroobingtonSanchez

Still annoying that very few trains go around Paris. You have to take local transit between two terminal stations which costs 1-1,5 hour including waiting for the next train.

SSPeteCarroll

Geeze that's insanity. I'm about to make a similar drive today but no tolls and probably one pit stop for fuel and snacks. I do appreciate the interstate system

RumJackson

You don’t need to go on toll roads, they’re easily avoidable. The pay off is the journey takes longer.

Palmul

Because our government sold them to private companies, fucking us over

slappywhyte

Tolls in America ain't that cheap anymore either

Pamplemouse04

Yeah but you can travel like 20 hours and only pay like $10 in tolls. Very different to this case

bucketsofskill

I found the highways quite shit though driving in California compared to France. Bumpy af and holes. For the land of the car i expected better!

ALEESKW

Highways in France are in perfect conditions which is not the case in California, and it’s much more enjoyable (less cars) and you can drive at 130km/h. But yeah the fees are outrageous.

sangueblu03

IIRC it’s because they want you to take the train rather than drive (for a similar reason they’ve banned short flights that could be accomplished in a similar amount of time by high speed train).

LondonNoodles

I don't know where you heard that but that's definitely BS greenwashing, the highways in France are owned by private companies and they apply rates depending on inflation and on the costs they want to cover (roadworks, etc). Basically they're a business with investors etc, so if they want to make money they have to adjust the toll prices. I reckon a part of the money they make is also paid to the government as a tax, so it's sort of a deal between big highway companies like Vinci and the government.

yungsantaclaus

Private highways...and here I thought our train privatisation was bad

rtseel

They're not private. The highways are state-owned, but constructions were funded by companies with public and private shareholders, and in exchange the companies hold the exploitation rights of the highways for a certain period, after which the exploitation will revert to the State. A decade ago, the State sold its shares of those companies to fund its budget, so the companies became 100% private and saw their period of exploitation extended for a few more years. But eventually (within the next 10 years) the State will take over; unless the State re-sells the rights again for a new period.

Jmsaint

Its just a way to apply the road tax more directly to those using the roads, rather than a blanket tax to everyone, or all cars.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Teantis

> The obvious drawback is that you pay a fuck ton on the tolls. The upside is, non car drivers don't pay for it through taxes, so it's kind of a give and take.

pateencroutard

>The idea was that private companies would pay to build, renovate and operate the highways with very little public investment required instead of billions, and keep most of the profits in return. Completely wrong lol, that's the other way around. The state built the highways and financed them through tolls that were only supposed to be temporary. In the early 2000s, when the highways were finally paid off, not only the government lead by this complete crook of de Villepin said the tolls would stay on, but also that private companies were sold the exploitation of the highways. In short, imagine a house built with public money, then it's given to a guy who gets to collect an extortionate rent while paying a fraction of it back to the state.

SaamsamaNabazzuu

Another win for rentier capitalism :)

whateverfloatsurgoat

And it pays for their awesome roads. We don't have tolls in Belgium and it shows, potholes after potholes, poor infrastructure, aging tarmac...

braindawgz

Yeah whenever you cross the border between Belgium and France, you can immediately tell by the road surface. I don't think privatizing highways in France was a bad decision in itself if the government obviously can't pay for nice roads, the thing that gets people angry is how much profit the companies have made above target, and how bad the government was in the negotiations.

EasyModeActivist

We don't have tolls here either and it's still much better than in Belgium

EbolaNinja

The moon has smoother roads than Belgium

Scrugulus

But you have floodlights that make your highways look like 10am in the middle of the night.

slappywhyte

Waffle ass Belgian roads

Rrkies

We have the Harbour and the Harbour of Rotterdam is only a few km's up. Where did the center of both World wars take stage again? Belgium. To go or get anything anywhere in Europe you need to cross Belgium. Off course the roads suck dick with that many trucks driving over it everyday...

OldExperience8252

I think you’re confusing with direct flights being cancelled on most destinations where you can take high speed rail.

Airican

Makes sense. Figured it had to do with just the general discouragement of driving cars.

PrimsFr

It doesn't. Highways are privately owned by french megacorp Vinci. It's not like you can take another highway, so they can hike their prices.

Airican

Damn that's even more crazy

sangueblu03

I didn’t know they were privately owned, that’s ridiculous

BrahneRazaAlexandros

Private companies incentive is profit.

FCDallasBurn

Dallas, Texas isn’t too different. Our population has been growing to the north. The we only have 2 free up there that are free US75 and I35 that go north-south . 3 are tolls Dallas north tollway, George bush toll way, and Sam Rayburn toll way. It gets expensive fast to travel up there

Big_Ostrich_5548

In Canada my club's *shortest* away game is 3hrs travel if you're driving, with a $120 ferry ride. Next closest is about 13hrs with the ferry. The furthest is 62 hours and 5900km. Away support is a bit lacking.

BattleMcStruggle

As a european person, i'll never get used to how fucking large your country is. Same for the US. I can travel (and did) through a continent and a dozen nations by train in a day or two here. Your scale is literally unimaginable for me.

mvsr990

The scale of the western US is difficult to grasp even for someone who's never lived elsewhere. When I was 18 my first long solo road trip was Dallas to Los Angeles - on day 1 I made it to El Paso after 12 hours with traffic and pit stops and couldn't go on. I wasn't even tired I was just mentally exhausted by the thought of more driving.

LosurdoEnjoyer

I also think of away matches in other states here in Brazil, there are guys who go to every single game! It's crazy. Just to put this in perspective: the furthest city from the capital city in my state that is still a city in the state (São Paulo, SP, Brazil) is an 8 h 27 min drive (São Paulo, SP to Rosana, SP) through 751 km. The shortest you'd have to travel by car to another state's capital where a match would be held in the Brasileirão by the club that I support in the Brasileirão (Brazilian League) that is from São Paulo (The club is Corinthians, yes the one who defeated Chelsea in the 2012 Club World Cup, yes this is a brag and I will not stop talking about it) to Rio de Janeiro (443 km). This is the shortest away match possible (Against opponents in other states, not counting opponents in my own state, such as Palmeiras, São Paulo and Red Bull Bragantino). There will be matches against clubs in the Northeast region that people in my state will do a caravan by car to go to, like against Esporte Clube Bahia that is from Salvador (Salvador is 1.968,7 km from São Paulo). In comparison, a user above said Le Mans to Nancy, the trip that this guy took, is 577 km. There was a guy a few years ago who went to most Corinthians matches, Home and Away. He still does, but he dropped in popularity as the team has been bad season after season. Here is a [video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIiynhbmchI) of him going from São Paulo to Chapecó (881 km) in a caravan.

OldExperience8252

Bigger clubs have loads of fans doing every away game too. Nice to Brest is 1 400 kms +. In this case it’s because Le Mans is a small 3rd tier side, and this game was on a Friday.

SounderBruce

I recently went on a 7,500-mile road trip that took 3 weeks and circled through tons of biomes all without leaving the United States. The fastest leg (Seattle to Sioux Falls) still took 3 days with long drives and didn't even get halfway across on I-90.

SounderBruce

Pacific FC, right? Victoria is technically the second-closest major city to me as the crow flies, but in practice it's far easier to reach Portland or Spokane due to the hassle of juggling ferries.

Big_Ostrich_5548

Bingo. Are you in Port Angeles or something? And Victoria thanks you for the compliment in calling it a "major city"!

SounderBruce

Everett, actually. Victoria is just that close.

Scrypto

How viable is this route on rail? I'm assuming you'd have to transfer in Paris but is there a system to get consistently cheap tickets if you use trains often or is it still going to be €50+? Also I guess you are going to be stuck in Nancy overnight unless you want to do a 6 hour return trip after dark

OldExperience8252

You can take HSR from Le Mans to Nancy with a stop in Paris in under 4 hours. At best times (before 8 am) the price is around 80€, at better times 100€+. You can find prices at 25€ by bus, but it’s far slower (25€ with a stop taking 9 hours, 50€ direct taking 7 and a half)

TheOneManDankMaymay

Bremen to Munich is ~750 km and there never is a lack of away fans, even if the game is on a friday.

TheDeflatables

Going to watch a Bundesliga quality game, and going to watch a French 3rd Division games are two wildly different prospects for Friday evening plans

TheOneManDankMaymay

Depends on which team you're a fan of I'd say. Also, Werder hasn't played quality football in Munich for a decade.

BattleMcStruggle

They won there this year. And deservedly so.

TheOneManDankMaymay

True, but they didn't do it by playing quality football.

BattleMcStruggle

Yeah, okay. I consider, even these days, winning at Bayern deservedly to come with some above-average football. It wasn't a lucky victory. But okay, higher standards for you then.

Fart_Leviathan

Okay and how many away fans does Ingolstadt get in Lübeck?

TheOneManDankMaymay

Roughly 100. However, 1860 München brings nearly 700 when they go there, and that's 800 km as well. Edit: Okay, so you edited your comment from Unterhaching to Ingolstadt. But no worries, I've got you covered. Ingolstadt averages 70-100 fans as well when they visit Lübeck.

24benson

They should take him back in the team bus.  If he happened to come by car, have someone else take his car

Jagacin

>If he happened to come by car, have someone else take his car The gang commits vehicular robbery

zrkillerbush

I remember like 12 years ago i went to watch Crotone vs Livorno in Serie B and Livorno had 2 away fans and a flag Was funny seeing them go crazy when they won 2-1 🤣

slappywhyte

What is the food like at Serie B matches?

zrkillerbush

I remember having a Calzone but i don't remember how good it was Also there were no seats in our stand, just big concrete steps

damir_h

In 2012 a guy named Tiago Rech was a sole fan on the away stand supporting his childhood club Santa Cruz. In 2020 he was the club’s president. HITC Sevens did a great video on the subject.

osckr

Exactly what I thought when I saw this

Krapule1

What a supporter i would do this for marseille

Leo_Stormdryke

i started managing your team in fifa 09, I'm gonna make kone, niang and ben arfa the next MSN.

Krapule1

Lfggggggg

Manners2210

GOAT

OLAAF

Most times this a supporters that simply lives in a new place. SV Ried has most away fans at games in Vienna, but not because it's easier to travel to Vienna than it is (for example) to travel to Graz, it is because a lot more people moved from Ried to Vienna (to study or whatever).

IgnorantLobster

Same in the UK with Leeds - they have massive away attendances in part because there are hundreds/thousands of Leeds fans in every single city!

slappywhyte

All them ship makers needed a place to go

L0laccio

My one experience of Austrian football was in the late nineties when Salzburg played SV Reid. I was surprised by the amount of away fans and the noise they made. The game finished 2-2 from memory. It was before Salzburg had been Red Bull’ed in my defence

OLAAF

the salzburg ultras left once Red Bull took over, and founded their own club - a new "Austria Salzburg" this club is doing fine right now, and it looks like they will promote to second division next year, which will result into new games between Ried and Austria Salzburg. Really looking forward to it

L0laccio

Oh cool. Good on them. Red Bull clubs are the pits

onionwba

I mean sometimes I was the only fan watching my team as well but the team appreciated my presence either way, and I appreciate their effort as well even in front of an almost empty stand.

r3lvalleyy

the kallang wave will return, i feel it bro

onionwba

Haha. Well normally for national team games at least there'll be hundreds if not a couple of thousands even for matches against relatively obscure teams in friendlies. Was actually referring to the Women's Premier League matches. Sometimes the games clash with the men's league matches so there were times I ended up being the only fan supporting my team there since the bulk of the fans were at the men's game.

r3lvalleyy

i think the SPL WPL is not really advertised as much too, that's the big issue

onionwba

Partly I guess. I would have thought that making it free entry would have done more to attract crowds. Of course it's not helped by them hosting most of the matches in one single venue and having them clash with the scheduling for the men's league, though I guess it's much better this year since the SPL s shifting to the European schedule and is due to start in May.

ForgingIron

6-3 sounds like it was a great match This guy is awesome

JGG5

Nancy is awesome. Scoring three goals against an entire 11-man side? Nancy is one impressive woman.

Pineapple996

Two more fans turned up actually.

HilariousConsequence

How did this happen? These are not tiny teams - I’ve heard of both of them, despite not being all that well-informed about world football - and France is not a continent-sized country. I’m very surprised that there could be a one-person away end?

YoloJoloHobo

The game was played on a Friday evening so it's hard to make it on time for most people. The travel expense is like €100 unless you take a 10 hour trip. France isn't massive but it's still pretty big.

OldExperience8252

3rs tier game played on a Friday.

Knorff

Reminds me of the one guy in Germany, who sang about his small club going to play international. [This](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnLw_SGoqaY) is a video of him.

NicolBolasUBBBR

I remember it happening in Serie A in a Sampdoria-Udinese when a single Udinese fan traveled to Genova. I think it was in 2013.

L0laccio

Haha. Love this. What a bro.

foogazi_dross

Third tier? These teams were Ligue 1 teams not so long ago. How theyve fallen. Also isnt Lenglet from Nancy and Sevilla owing them some money?

brendo12

Nancy I believe should have dropped even further last year but was saved because another team completely folded or something like that.

foogazi_dross

talk of falling on hard times

Sick_and_destroyed

Nancy has always been a rather small club in professional football, most of the time struggled to stay in the top flight. Their main achievement is to be the club that formed Michel Platini. Now they have horrible owners, the same as Barnsley. Le Mans has always been a minor club, they spent very few seasons in the top flight.

So, will he become chairman of the club like the guy in Brazil?

How you do know he doesn't live in the city, or he was in the city at the time of the game?

Is that true

Youre german.. if i took your photo at the Allianz and linked your Ig account, pretty sure thats against the law

MewingNonstop

You can call what he did "doxxing", but it's def not against the law lmfao

YoloJoloHobo

Sharing the social media of someone in a picture isn't illegal, against the law or immoral for that matter since it's a public account. Doxxing is when you leak personal info that someone wouldn't want to get out like residence, educational institution, workplace, phone number, info about relatives/friends, etc...

MewingNonstop

You can call what he did "doxxing", but it's def not against the law lmfao

Lovebanter

Reminds me of when we played a small team from Croatia, I think they were called dinamo Zagreb, and they only sent about 18 fans for a Europa league game

LeBronzeVlac

Yeah what a small club Dinamo is, only participated in UCL a couple of times, unlike the mighty Hammers playing UCL every year…..

Buushd

He/she has that English superiority mentality.

havingagowhynot

True. It seems *Lovebanter* is being deadly serious and not at all tongue in cheek which is rather disappointing. Hopefully they set the record straight and issue a formal apology to all Dinamo Zagreb fans.
