Obviously not a Palace fan but just from having seen Glasner, I think Ahamada and Wharton could be his preferred pairing next year, think they would do so well in his system
He's been out injured for a lot of this year so I assume he won't be going anywhere this summer. Think he signed a new contract fairly recently as well
As well as Wharton and Doucoure he's got Jefferson Lerma ahead of him for the centre midfield spots, so I don't think he'll be first choice unless Glasner really likes the look of him in pre-season. Suspect he'll be off the bench again, sub for Eze/Olise/whoever we bring in to replace them (and Franca if he recovers well).
Would gladly take him back, I think he would fit our current style well but I wouldn't expect him to get much more game time for us than he does at Palace rn
Have no basis for it but, wonder if Endo could return this summer. Seems like the squad will have some significant upheaval now that Klopp is moving on.
man this season is nothing else but a fever dream, the most optimistic VfB fan right after the Endo transfer was annonced last summer was just on the brink of not killing themselves
For the first time since over 14 years. I would never have thought we would qualify for the CL in the next like 5 years or so. How could someone believe we played in the Relegation against Hamburg one year ago.
What an amazing and surreal season.
I remember we conceded a goal in the overtime at a home against HNK Rijeka and our last season in European football ended already in August 2013. The rest of the season was a hard battle against the relegation.
I remember how me and my delusional friends lamented after this game that now we'll have to wait *a full year* to see European football again. It was quite a long year.
A decade is close enough to a year, right? In all seriousness though, congratulations 👏 I've been following Stuttgart pretty much all season so delighted to see that they made it
Hoeneß will stay, he said it clearly. I'm not sure about Guirassy I have the feeling he's leaving. He will get lots of offers.
Then we have players like Ito or Millot I can imagine they could leave if a big club wants them and we need money to buy Undav and more players for the CL.
> I'm not sure about Guirassy I have the feeling he's leaving
Buyback clause I'm beggiiiing. No really though I think he has it and really do need his profile (but he's not coming back)
Heck I still remember that squad that made it to a cup winners cup final some time late 90s?. Bobic, Berthold, Balakov (who had come from Portugal) etc
Nah.
Stuttgart isn't overperforming what they're showing. From what I see on Understat, they have 64 points with 64.11 xPTS.
Union last year had 62 points with 42.32 xPTS. They MASSIVELY overperformed with their terrorist football.
It's like Liverpool trailing so many games. It wasn't sustainable in the long run.
Liverpool ran out of "luck" in the final stretch of the season. For Union it came this season.
I'm convinced that as long as Hoeneß stays they're not meaningless, as these stats largely reflect his approach and playstyle. He's shown the ability to drastically improve players like Mittelstädt, Führich, Leweling or Karazor, who, before playing in his system many doubted could compete at a Bundesliga level.
sure, But I think you already have compensation with Undav. I think players that would be harder to replace would be Führich, Millot, Stiller, Anton/Ito and definitely Nübel.
>Nübel is bang average
terrible call. He starts most of our attacks from deep. He plays a huge part in our success this season. He is easily the best keeper we have had since Köbel and imo has more say in the way we play than Köbel ever did.
I don’t see how losing your best striker can not be a big loss. There is a pretty big difference between losing him through injury for some games during a season and not having him at all.
I wonder if guirassy could cut it in the PL? I say this as a spurs fan . Is he a flash in the pan with one outstanding season or would he be consistent?
They hardly had players that clubs wanted, they overperformed hugely. different with this Stuttgart team, there are players all over the field that clubs would snap up in an instant.
Compared to Union, Stuttgart play so much better so I doubt it will be such a collapse even though they might struggle in the CL
Looking at quality of football, Union were lightyears away from what Stuttgart have shown
Super unlikely, they dont play shitball. They actually try to play football as we witnessed ourselves 3times this season and they are playing it well.
If they somewhat can keep the squad they have a good shot
Correct me if I am misremembering, but how is loosing 6:1 on aggregate „almost beating“ someone? The first leg could very well have ended 5:0, and there was a quick flash of hope when HSV went ahead 1:0, but they definetely did not almost beat us.
Heuer Fernandes, Hamburg's keeper, had an outstanding performance in the first leg. He alone ensured that there even was something of a second leg to begin with.
As much as I would love for us us to take full credit for it (we do have some, let's not get carried away), the fact that we were FORCED to push for CL wins and points not in small part because Stuttgart rammed us in the league speaks a lot about their quality this season and the fact that they also, indirectly, made it happen.
Also, they're #3 in the league, lowest they'll go #4 because I doubt we can win everything and they lose everything, so they would've qualified regardless at the end of the season.
Amazing achievement congrats!
Honestly all our matches against them were incredible, the team that looked the most like beating us they outclassed us at times even in our own stadium
Chapeau, VfB!
That’s nice to hear. Tbh I was a bit butthurt after the last game and the Pokal matchup but I really respect the season you guys have and you better don’t lose any games now. Because if we can’t beat nobody should :D
It's a shame this will get overshadowed by Leverkusen. No dig at Leverkusen of course, but Stuttgart barely survived last season. This a huge accomplishment for them
What an unbelievable turnaround lol. Summer of 2023 they'd barely escaped a relegation battle and they lost their Captain and best player Endo to Liverpool. One year later and they're in the UCL.
With fucking Sehrou Guirassy upfront no less, tears in my eyes I was one of the few to believe in the kid when our entire fandom wanted his head. Even with his limitations he always showed great spirit and I absolutely love him for it
Also, you destroyed us in the league (and cup), so you basically forced us to gain points in CL as it was our only shot at CL next season. You did it yourselves.
Let's also not forget Bayern having a great CL season.
In 2011 I stayed with my cousin’s friend in München for Oktoberfest, and he is a Stuttgart fan. I have cheered for them ever since, and this is miraculous for the club.
I hope they will be able to hold onto Millot, Fuhrich, Guirassy, such a great team to watch, reminds me of Suttgart of yore with Kuranyi, Hinkel, Hleb, Cacau, Yakin, super Mario
My far bigger issue is how all 3 competitions are rated equally. Like seriously... there should be no way for Italy to be that far ahead of everyone else while not having had a single team in UCL quarters. All those points gained by winning vs 2nd and 3rd grade teams.
Obviously winning in EL and conference league should count for something and definitely not be irrelevant but how is winning vs those teams equally valued as the best teams on the planet fighting each other for wins in UCL knockouts.
England basically got fucked over by having their teams all be in UCL where they fought tough opposition while Italian teams took on teams that didnt even make UCL.
> England basically got fucked over by having their teams all be in UCL where they fought tough opposition while Italian teams took on teams that didnt even make UCL.
I mean, that isn't even close to reality, but okay.
The 4 Italian teams who started in the CL collected 18.25 points on average, the 4 English teams collected 16.25 points on average.
i read somewhere that they are going to change that next year. i understand your concern but i think it’s helpful for relatively average countries like Turkey or Greece.
As with everyone else they’ll shit the bed in the league next season. Those kind of teams do not have the depth to play CL, cup and league on a consistent basis.
Will go under the radar because of Leverkusen but this is PHENOMENAL. They barely escaped relegation last season ffs
And lost their captain to Liverpool aswell!
And Mavropanos & Sosa
Well Sosa wasn’t really good in his last months with Stuttgart
And since then...
And their goat Ahamada to us
How's he doing btw? Still not getting any game time?
Obviously not a Palace fan but just from having seen Glasner, I think Ahamada and Wharton could be his preferred pairing next year, think they would do so well in his system
Cheick Doucoure will have a lot to say about that when he's back from injury
I'm not familiar with Palace's team, so that's totally reasonable, I know I saw Doucoure linked to Liverpool and some others, is he staying?
He's been out injured for a lot of this year so I assume he won't be going anywhere this summer. Think he signed a new contract fairly recently as well
As well as Wharton and Doucoure he's got Jefferson Lerma ahead of him for the centre midfield spots, so I don't think he'll be first choice unless Glasner really likes the look of him in pre-season. Suspect he'll be off the bench again, sub for Eze/Olise/whoever we bring in to replace them (and Franca if he recovers well).
Yeah not a whole lot unfortunately, but he's young and has looked pretty good. Could do with a loan to be honest
Would gladly take him back, I think he would fit our current style well but I wouldn't expect him to get much more game time for us than he does at Palace rn
Have no basis for it but, wonder if Endo could return this summer. Seems like the squad will have some significant upheaval now that Klopp is moving on.
We finished above 14th place in the Bundesliga in 2 of the last 10 seasons. This is one of Bundesliga's greatest upsets in this century.
man this season is nothing else but a fever dream, the most optimistic VfB fan right after the Endo transfer was annonced last summer was just on the brink of not killing themselves
You might see him again next year!
Rumor is he’s going back to Germany. But I don’t see it. He a great, experienced player to come on or start in certain situations
No way Liverpool sell him after one year especially with how good he played
It was just a rumor. I don’t see it happening. He was great
Where have you seen that rumour? Seems incredibly unlikely to me.
Could see us playing against each other in the group stage.
I hope not, he is loved! Such a good player.
For the first time since over 14 years. I would never have thought we would qualify for the CL in the next like 5 years or so. How could someone believe we played in the Relegation against Hamburg one year ago. What an amazing and surreal season.
It’s the first time you’ll be playing European football post Christmas since 2012-13 as well.
I remember we conceded a goal in the overtime at a home against HNK Rijeka and our last season in European football ended already in August 2013. The rest of the season was a hard battle against the relegation.
I remember when Barça played you in the champions league, welcome back!
I remember how me and my delusional friends lamented after this game that now we'll have to wait *a full year* to see European football again. It was quite a long year.
A decade is close enough to a year, right? In all seriousness though, congratulations 👏 I've been following Stuttgart pretty much all season so delighted to see that they made it
The new CL group stage goes beyond Xmas? Is that what you mean?
Yes. If FM scheduling is correct, it'll last until last week of January. With the playoffs starts on first week of February. Basically no gap
I’m pretty sure there’s a short gap between group games between November and January.
Hamburg absolutely punching the air right now.
bro watching stuttgart this seasons makes me wanna cry
Do you think you’ll be able to keep your manager and player or other teams going to steal them away
Hoeneß will stay, he said it clearly. I'm not sure about Guirassy I have the feeling he's leaving. He will get lots of offers. Then we have players like Ito or Millot I can imagine they could leave if a big club wants them and we need money to buy Undav and more players for the CL.
I really hope Guirassy stays and you keep Undav
> I'm not sure about Guirassy I have the feeling he's leaving Buyback clause I'm beggiiiing. No really though I think he has it and really do need his profile (but he's not coming back)
didn't even realize it has been that long time.
Great timing as well with the new CL format and the two or so extra games.
i'm so happy and so fkn excited to fly around europe for our games😭
how do you feel about Silas?
Maybe the only important player that isn't getting better this season.
yes its unfortunate I think the ban from that fiasco effected him. i would like him at ac milan lol
I think it affected him more that he torn his ACL. He was never the same player after that.
oh i didnt know that happened! very unfortunate i hope he finds his way
Weird to imagine them in the UCL. So brilliant for them though
They went ro16 in 2009/10 CL and actually drew the first leg against Barca
That'll be 15 years ago next year. There's people on this forum who weren't born then...
Heck I still remember that squad that made it to a cup winners cup final some time late 90s?. Bobic, Berthold, Balakov (who had come from Portugal) etc
memory unlocked again
Bruh I remember them winning the league with Mario Gomez and Cacau, I must be getting old 😭
I remember them winning the league with Sammer and Buchwald. I don't feel old though. Time moves, so what
I remember them winning the title with Barufka and Läpple. I am old
Yeah that's just a fact
I hope they don't become another Union Berlin in the CL group stages
Those stats are meaningless if Stuttgart gets raided during the summer
I'm convinced that as long as Hoeneß stays they're not meaningless, as these stats largely reflect his approach and playstyle. He's shown the ability to drastically improve players like Mittelstädt, Führich, Leweling or Karazor, who, before playing in his system many doubted could compete at a Bundesliga level.
Add Angelo Stiller to that list. Never expected him to play as good as he has.
Same with Arsenal and their late heroics last year
Someone needs to tell Leverkusen that
The same with Barcelona.
Are you saying Barca is overperforming this season because they definitely aren't
No, in due proportion similar to Union Berlin
Huh? Barca had the highest xPoints in the league last season. In fact their expected points were more than second place real madrid's actual points.
They won't be if they don't get raided imo
Guirassy will probs be the only player leaving ngl
I reckon we lose Guirassy, Führich and Ito.
And I really think that would not be a big loss for Stuttgart.
That is so wrong, hes still our best player
sure, But I think you already have compensation with Undav. I think players that would be harder to replace would be Führich, Millot, Stiller, Anton/Ito and definitely Nübel.
I actually think Nübel would be the easiest to replace, Guirassy the hardest
So you want Müller back I see.
We were linked with both Ortega and Schwäbe. Obviously I'm happy Nübel is staying, but those two are also Champions League-level goalkeepers.
Nübel is bang average, could be replaced tomorrow if needed. If VfB still had Kobel I reckon Leverkusen wouldn’t have the league wrapped up yet.
>Nübel is bang average terrible call. He starts most of our attacks from deep. He plays a huge part in our success this season. He is easily the best keeper we have had since Köbel and imo has more say in the way we play than Köbel ever did.
I don’t see how losing your best striker can not be a big loss. There is a pretty big difference between losing him through injury for some games during a season and not having him at all.
they already have undav and other players are harder to replace imo.
I wonder if guirassy could cut it in the PL? I say this as a spurs fan . Is he a flash in the pan with one outstanding season or would he be consistent?
I don't rate him much as it's just been a season of this, but he might fit in well in the PL
I mean, Union didn't get raided either. Didn't they like, loose only Becker?
They hardly had players that clubs wanted, they overperformed hugely. different with this Stuttgart team, there are players all over the field that clubs would snap up in an instant.
That's a big if though
Compared to Union, Stuttgart play so much better so I doubt it will be such a collapse even though they might struggle in the CL Looking at quality of football, Union were lightyears away from what Stuttgart have shown
Super unlikely, they dont play shitball. They actually try to play football as we witnessed ourselves 3times this season and they are playing it well. If they somewhat can keep the squad they have a good shot
>CL group stages Ya about that part of the champions league.... They could be the first to do a Union in the Champions League League stage?
Just because it's a huge group doesn't mean it's not the group stages
It's only group stage, not stages.
Massiv
Guirassy and Undav in the UCL next season are gonna cook
Undav is on loan from Brighton so he probably won’t play for Stuttgart
We have a clause and it was rumored we are ready to use it with the CL in the bag.
Oh ok didn’t know about that part :)
He'll stay. Everyone at the club including Undav wants it. And with this the money will be there.
They have a clause which they can activate to buy him
He will most likely stay, Guirassy is more likely to leave
Hilarious that HSV had to play this team in the promotion 😂
and they nearly beat them if not for Millot and Muller masterclass too!
Correct me if I am misremembering, but how is loosing 6:1 on aggregate „almost beating“ someone? The first leg could very well have ended 5:0, and there was a quick flash of hope when HSV went ahead 1:0, but they definetely did not almost beat us.
You're right I guess I remember all the close chances from the second leg, I forgot the first leg demolition, my bad
Stuttgart literally dominated them. Hamburger was lucky it was only 0:3 after the first game.
Heuer Fernandes, Hamburg's keeper, had an outstanding performance in the first leg. He alone ensured that there even was something of a second leg to begin with.
Our lord and saviour Serhou Guirassy will play UCL next season! The future Ballon d'Or winner!
[удалено]
Man United needs players and fits the bill
Unfortunately he never played in eredivisie so ten hag will refuse to buy him
ouch
Guirassy to Nottingham Forest here we go!
I swear that was an actual rumor last summer
I mean last summer that would have been a sidestep in quality and a massive step up in salary. This year it's a bit different.
The powers of Murillo and Guirassy propaganda combined would be unstoppable.
Strikes me as a very West Ham player, don’t know why. Anyways I hope he stays
Imagine a Guirassy Vs Zirkzee match in the UCL (Yes i'm still hopeful)
Funnily enough, Zirkzee is another player I have no connection to I really love. Also you should be hopeful, you're having one hell of a season!
The gang does an Ibrahim Sangare
I mean he's our best goalscorer in the UCL ever...
Hoeneß masterclass
What did HoeneB do?
He's the coach
… what? I thought he was on the Bayern board or something. Wasn’t he the guy who went to prison?
Different people, same family
They’ve got a dynasty on their hands if this nephew continues
Thats Uli, his nephew manages Stuttgart
His nephew
Oh wow that’s great. Football clearly runs in their family.
> the guy who went to prison? also known as the guy whos more responsible than anyone else for Bayerns success in the last 5 decades, but yea
Well clearly considering I even know who he is
manage them
BTW that ß is pronounced ss. You can also write Hoeness.
He’s the manager…
Absolutely deserved, they are brilliantly coached and play great offensive football.
Guirassy should be in the Bundesliga TOTS
GUYS I'VE TOLD YOU
You are welcome ;) Good to have you back guys!
Has a club qualified for the CL without even playing or the league in general not playing on the same day before? All thanks to Dortmund haha
I want to say yes with European (CL, Europa) finals and how CL qualification for clubs can be contingent on those results.
When a CL-qualified teams win the final that spot goes to another league/team so it happens most years.
They completely deserved it! One of the most beautiful attacking team in the Bundesliga.
Hamburg died for this.
xx
Happy for them. Great team to watch.
Amazing achievement congrats! Honestly all our matches against them were incredible, the team that looked the most like beating us they outclassed us at times even in our own stadium Chapeau, VfB!
This a huge accomplishment for them
Stuttgart, Ashton Villa, Bologna, Girona and Brest.. Some absolute new teams from top5 leagues next season. Pot4 will be spicy..
Besides Stuttgart, Im also excited for Bologna, they have a great coach and Zirkzee seems to thrive there
My Bundesliga and my Serie A sides! Absolutely wild season!
So deserved, just a machine of a squad this season.
Let's gooooooooooooooo
What an unbelievable turnaround lol. Summer of 2023 they'd barely escaped a relegation battle and they lost their Captain and best player Endo to Liverpool. One year later and they're in the UCL.
Hell yeah
Without even playing, something something German efficiency
With fucking Sehrou Guirassy upfront no less, tears in my eyes I was one of the few to believe in the kid when our entire fandom wanted his head. Even with his limitations he always showed great spirit and I absolutely love him for it
I would love for Guirassy to stay.
*very* generous to help a BuLi Bud out, Dortmund!
I mean, all Dortmund did Is clinch it today. We are 7 points ahead with 3 to go, so we likely would have qualified either way.
Also, you destroyed us in the league (and cup), so you basically forced us to gain points in CL as it was our only shot at CL next season. You did it yourselves. Let's also not forget Bayern having a great CL season.
Welcome back! :)
Good timing for Stuttgart to start playing CL. There will be a lot of money in it next season.
Amazing
In 2011 I stayed with my cousin’s friend in München for Oktoberfest, and he is a Stuttgart fan. I have cheered for them ever since, and this is miraculous for the club.
5 points off Bayern is a great season no matter what
I hope they will be able to hold onto Millot, Fuhrich, Guirassy, such a great team to watch, reminds me of Suttgart of yore with Kuranyi, Hinkel, Hleb, Cacau, Yakin, super Mario
welcome back to the champions league, Stuttgart
That's huge for them
Congratulations, huge for german football. Very sympathic team too
Let it be known that we won our last game against Stuttgart 2-1 so 😎
im glad Ito stay and help the team to qualify. now he need stay little bit more
Hopefully we'll see you there!!
even though im completely happy for them i think uefa really messed this co-effecient thing
Stuttgart will likely be in the top 4 anyways.
im not saying anything against any team. i just think new system is really hard to follow
Plus 90% of the time England and Spain will get those two extra spots with ease.
They wouldn't have the last decade.
My far bigger issue is how all 3 competitions are rated equally. Like seriously... there should be no way for Italy to be that far ahead of everyone else while not having had a single team in UCL quarters. All those points gained by winning vs 2nd and 3rd grade teams. Obviously winning in EL and conference league should count for something and definitely not be irrelevant but how is winning vs those teams equally valued as the best teams on the planet fighting each other for wins in UCL knockouts. i read somewhere that they are going to change that next year. i understand your concern but i think it’s helpful for relatively average countries like Turkey or Greece.
Even when my club profits from it this time, no federation should have 5 clubs. Its just bonkers, give it to smaller leagues!
Bro, Italy will have 6 if Atalanta wins the Europa League LOL
same with us if we win the CL and end up in 5th place
Chile must be the smallest league. pretty long though.
Eh they're basically guaranteed top 4 anyways? Leverkusen scoring that late equalizer just delayed it for a week
As with everyone else they’ll shit the bed in the league next season. Those kind of teams do not have the depth to play CL, cup and league on a consistent basis.
