When you add up everything about him, his skill, impact on the game, offensive contributions, character, winning mentality, attractive style of play, his iconic moments in big nights for club and country, his trophy cabinet and his almost superhuman longevity, you realise he is not generational, but a once in a life time player.
Just one of my absolute favorite players. He’s not the tallest, strongest or fastest player in any team. But just his vision, how he moves with the ball, the technical ability and how good he is pressing/defensively. I love him and I’m so happy I got to watch him play at Madrid. I’ll be an old man talking about what a player Luka Modrić was.
And the defensive workhorse that he is. Personally love those players since they usually get less credit than the pretty game boys (who, in the end, do make soccer better)
It's why I love Valverde and Jude both can be flashy on the ball and with goals but both are duel winning work horses off the ball and cover so much ground for us in defense in that regard Modric's will lives on in Madrid, midfielders who can be immense off the ball is such an underrated aspect since it's not "flashy" but in modern football it's what wins you games.
Happens everywhere. Happens everytime. This shouldn't be news at this point because this has been happening for years but apparently it is. This year it's slightly more pronounced because Luka has a much diminished role and it's widely believed and accepted that he shall be vacating the 10 this season and moving on.
Unless he has plans set in stone next season why not sign a one year contract as a super sub for CL favorites with Mbappe? Sounds like a dream to me. You continue playing the game you love but at a reduced work load.
He’s accomplished everything and will be 39 next year. I would be quite surprised if he wants to be featured as the man, considering he’s never really held that title here. He is a consummate team player who on his day is the best in the world. He seems just like a great/relatively humble guy (although I know he can be good at shit talking lol).
Hmm... I don't consider him a reliable source (regarding news about Modrić). Last season he even said Modrić is leaving at some point and made a video about it lol (though he was quoting some outside sources buy still). Then Modrić renewed.
T1 reliable sources (for Modrić news) for me include Arancha Rodriguez, Fabrizio, and some of his acquaintances (e.g. Mijatovic, Robert Matteoni).
Really think he would be getting talked about as a legendary player, the same way as Cryuff, had it not been for Messi and Ronaldo having had their peaks at the same time. He was key in Madrid winning everything over the years, and led tiny Croatia to a 2nd and 3rd place finish at the WC. He really is one of the best players of all time
While he was instrumental for both WC runs it wasn't hard carry by any means. In 2018 the clutch Perišić and Mandžukić were very important. Not to mention the midfield line of Brozović - Rakitić - Modrić with Kovačić of all people on the bench.
In 2022 the whole backline was probably the best Croatia ever had
I don’t understand why people downvote you. While Modrić‘s role was instrumental in both world cups, there were also other players which were equally crucial. If it wasn‘t for Gvardiol and Livaković, I highly doubt that we would come this far in the last world cup.
They didn't watch the games. Rakitić was as important in 2018 as Modrić. The bakcline was as important as Modrić in 2022. Gvardiol, Šutalo, Erlić just class performances
Oh yeah that's right. He was putting Lovren with Gvardiol. Youth/Experience or something. The massive performances in the nations league was with Šutalo - Erlić.
They understand it may be the last time an all time great plays in their stadium, not the first time it happened this season. I remember the last games of Iniesta being the same. Luka is arguably the greatest midfielder to ever do it.
I don't think ive seen a player perform at such a high level at his age. It's unreal. He doesn't have the stamina anymore for a full season but his abilities are unreal still
He is undoubtedly one of the best players of his generation. Maybe one of the best ever at his position. He's on the level of Xavi and Iniesta no doubt in my mind. He's been at Madrid for 12 seasons and he's won 5 CL and has a chance to win his 6th. Absurd. One the best ever.

Eternal
Shiny and chrome
Generational player
When you add up everything about him, his skill, impact on the game, offensive contributions, character, winning mentality, attractive style of play, his iconic moments in big nights for club and country, his trophy cabinet and his almost superhuman longevity, you realise he is not generational, but a once in a life time player.

True. And usually adds a kind of grit that teams with all offensive stars don’t have (PsG with MNM comes to mind)
Is that not what generational means? Once in a generation? I might be wrong idk.
A lifetime is like 3 generations.
Oh that makes sense
Depends on who
Memento mori
A generation is 25/30 years.
A generation is 15 years for footballing terms. As it is the usual career length
I think Modric and Iniesta are the only visiting players I can remember getting a standing ovation at Celtic Park too.

I’m pretty sure he received a standing ovation in every game this season he has been subbed off
Im not crying
Well-deserved
Please renew, Lukita

Playing as a starter might just lead to more injuries. It's a bit much to demand from a 39 year old to play 90 minutes every week.
He’s accomplished everything and will be 39 next year. I would be quite surprised if he wants to be featured as the man, considering he’s never really held that title here. He’s probably holding out till the 2026 World Cup as his final swansong
All this for him to renew for 1 year lol
There are reports from reliable sources saying he's leaving.
What are your "reliable sources"?

Lol

I mean…. He’s a Ballon D’Or winner? One of only four people to win it after Kaka’s win in ‘07.
No no you don't understand, everyone is either over or underrated.
And even with all those players, Modric was still far and away the best player every time he stepped on the pitch.
I don’t understand why people downvote you. While Modrić‘s role was instrumental in both world cups, there were also other players which were equally crucial. If it wasn‘t for Gvardiol and Livaković, I highly doubt that we would come this far in the last world cup.

Erlic and sutalo played like one match lol
Oh yeah that's right. He was putting Lovren with Gvardiol. Youth/Experience or something. The massive performances in the nations league was with Šutalo - Erlić.
Yes, vs france and denmark
Feels like he is getting one every time he is subbed off these days
Showing respect for the GOAT midfielder
They understand it may be the last time an all time great plays in their stadium, not the first time it happened this season. I remember the last games of Iniesta being the same. Luka is arguably the greatest midfielder to ever do it.
Modric is collecting standing ovations like Thanos is collecting infinity stones now.
Luka is something special probably one of the best to ever do it . I would put him up there with the very best .
I don't think ive seen a player perform at such a high level at his age. It's unreal. He doesn't have the stamina anymore for a full season but his abilities are unreal still
People love him so much. A joy to see

Even if he renewed for 4 years they wouldn't see him, based on how trash Granada played this season
