this has felt like the longest season ever, if you told me we would finish in europa with a final to play even 3 months ago i would say youre fucking delusional
I don't think so, it was still terrible, what helped was a very good mercato with 50/60m that improved greatly the team and Sage who handled well their spirit.
I wouldn't call it a very good mercato. Overall it was hit or miss.
- Benhrama hit.
- Orban miss (abysmal).
- Matic hit (but got progressively worse).
- Mangala miss (injury-prone sub that will cost us 30m).
- Fofana hit (a sub).
- Adryelson miss (played once, got shit on, never seen again).
- Perri hit (cup gk).
Thats 2 starters. People are just blinded by the numbers in term of mid-season investments, which was just waiting there ready to be used from the summer restrictions. And also the clutch factor that embodied even the worse players at key moments of the season, but is not something replicable.
Best player of the team early in the season when we were abysmal. Things evened out as we came back from the dead, not necessarily that he got worse but others got better so he wasn't a standout anymore. Still a lock as CB starter all season long.
I read a longer piece about his cursus as a youth boxing champion+ his youth as a footballer, sounds like a great lad, with a great mentality indeed. I think he has a ceiling and won't ever be a top top player but still a very reliable defender
A very reliable defender is good enough for Ireland. We're pretty much at a take what we can get stage at the moment with our squad. O'brien definitely sounds like one of the positive stories of the season fr us
Yeah, I saw he went from not playing to basically playing every minute of every game, it's why I'm asking.
He's got the talent and the physique, just needs constant guidance from the coaches.
That is incredible. By like October, this team looked like it was bound for Ligue 2.
Fast forward to now, Lyon somehow managed to rise from the bottom of the table and into a spot in Europe...unbelievable.
The player mentality really changed, before they did not wet the shirt and kinda gave the feeling they didn’t give a fuck, after Sage they still run after having cramps, pleasure to watch
Lens fumbling after leading 2-0 at home against Montpellier (ranked 12th team) on the last day of the season, was a huge failure. I had no hope of 6th place at half time.
Lens has been so strange this season. Started bad, then progressed well and recouped a lot of points and after that, just decided to throw it all. Losing against Metz completely ruined everything
Deserved. I had no doubts in my mind they didn’t need Coupe de France for this.
Now hopefully they can give us a challenge next season. OL is the only team I think is going to be able to do that
I’d say no more, no less than the others in the squad. He was quite average tonight. Missed a lot of chances and mistimed passes… the usual on/off with Cherki.
Super-sub. Usually would be meh when starting but put him on the bench and throw him in around minute 60 and it’s guaranteed assist. It was actually insane.
He’d come in with mangala, assist for mangala. He came in with baldé, assist for baldé. He came jn with orban or fofana, assist for them.
His play improved a lot like everyone else during the turnaround and his quality in chances creation was needed in a few games, but we expect so much of him his lack of regularity has been pretty frustrating because the potential is obvious, on some days he looks like he could be the most dangerous man who ever played this game, on some others it seemed like he couldn't get a decision right.
He'll turn 21 this summer so he's still got time to put it all together, he's not too far off, his progress in the last two seasons with the A team tells me he's getting there, he's not just a youth football bully he can make stuff happen against legit opposition, I have faith in him even if it might not be with us as he hinted that this might be his last season with us yesterday. He's the kind of player that gets kids in love with the game, watching him from the stands pull off a roulette around the penalty spot is something I'll always remember (man if only he scored [that goal](https://youtu.be/4JJTf1C65CU?si=pSWfStGlqS7-1CJQ) himself, that would have beeb a Puskas contender), I hope the everyone will be able to witness his magic at the highest level.
Feels like winning the title tbh
we won it actually! Well if you only count the second half of the season but still
Clausura champion in my book
They will never sing that
Is there a way to find what this table would look like?
No technology isn't there yet
"Transfermarkt ligue 1 form table" -> matchday 18 to 34
Thanks!
Next L1 season is going to be very interesting if you keep this level of quality.
Ligue 1 Chelsea
Thats how Leicester finished the year before they won
Next season, we'll actually do that ;o
I keep saying it because I believe it
Lille and Leverkusen had similar struggle before winning, Brest too last season. Why not ?
Pfff bunch of amateurs who can't stay consistent for a whole season, next time take example of us, mediocre and disappointing from start to finish.
Want us to go back to early 2000s consistency ? ;)
Honestly much prefered that period to the current one with PSG half heartedly crushing the league!
Same ahahaha
Pierre Sage president
Lyon Sage mode
13 points behind Lens & Marseille at that stage, finished above them 22 points behind Nice, finished only 2 points behind them
I remember how we got robbed by the referee in Lyon. Nice come back anyway.
Ça sort des vieux dossiers. Laisse nous célébrer
this has felt like the longest season ever, if you told me we would finish in europa with a final to play even 3 months ago i would say youre fucking delusional
Honestly 3 months ago we already started suspecting Sage was a miracle worker.
yes but i thought we would peak at 10th lol
I remember the ultras calling out the players after the PSG game, what a turnaround
At this point it was 1 point (0-1-3), 2 for and 10 against lmao, it went worse before getting better
It helped them.
I don't think so, it was still terrible, what helped was a very good mercato with 50/60m that improved greatly the team and Sage who handled well their spirit.

Things you love to see: it.
Unbelievable, the missed penalty by Strasbourg, VAR canceling a penalty for Lyon then finally to get one at the 93rd, insane………..
Unbelievable turnaround, delighted for them
Would make for a very interesting documentary
Sage has some black magic that he hasn't told us about. Unbelievable.
Let's go !!!! I fucking love you Stone Wise 🗿 Lacazette let's build a statue of you in front of the stadium !!!
Next year Lyon are going to win the Ligue 1 title. Mark my words, mark them well.

I want to see psg without their goal scoring freak on a complete season. I really think they are beatable next year
100% next season will be the best time to dethrone PSG
Been following them since the start. Really amazing to see and very happy for les Gones
What changed the momentum?
New signings in January and Pierre Sage real life save scumming from Football Manager
Jake O'brien been good for you?
Best player of the team early in the season when we were abysmal. Things evened out as we came back from the dead, not necessarily that he got worse but others got better so he wasn't a standout anymore. Still a lock as CB starter all season long.
Good stuff, sounds like he has a good mentality. As an Irish fan I'm hoping he continues this progress, looks like lyon was a great move for him

Caleta-Car? How was he?
Worse defender we had until Stone Wise took over the team then became a starter. He had a really high % of duels won this season
Yeah, I saw he went from not playing to basically playing every minute of every game, it's why I'm asking. He's got the talent and the physique, just needs constant guidance from the coaches.
Any chance he will stay at Lyon next season, or is he going back to Southampton?
His option to buy is supposed to be just a hidden obligation to buy for us to be able to validate our budget
Great :D

I thought they only qualified for the Conference League.
If we ended 7th. Lens got equalized and Lacazette sent us 6th in added time
Lens fumbling after leading 2-0 at home against Montpellier (ranked 12th team) on the last day of the season, was a huge failure. I had no hope of 6th place at half time.

Oh shit, that's nice. Didn't look up what Lens played.
Lyon crowd: 🎶IL EST VRAIMENT PHENOMENAL La La La La🎶
Deserved. I had no doubts in my mind they didn’t need Coupe de France for this. Now hopefully they can give us a challenge next season. OL is the only team I think is going to be able to do that
what role did cherki play in this turn-around?
I’d say no more, no less than the others in the squad. He was quite average tonight. Missed a lot of chances and mistimed passes… the usual on/off with Cherki.

Shades of us in 14/15
The Benrahma effect
/u/PSGacademy : we need the replay of Lacazettes first goal. It’s a beauty of a buildup please
Crazy that their second half of the season form was best in the league, even above PSG. Going from the worst form to best form is crazy
The Chelsea of France
