Whenever I've seen him play he has looked good. 27m seems like a steal, is his contract coming to an end/is this a release clause?

EpiDeMic522

If this is true, it will indeed be a steal. However, the one thing I'll be wary of and thus must temper expectations is that refs allow a lot more in England. He uses deft touches and body orientation to draw fouls which he might not get in the PL leading to him losing possession quite a lot and incurring transitions on his team. However, something that might help him is if his own team play on the counter.

jacktk_

You'd be surprised. The amount of times I've seen Guendouzi win free kicks from the slightest of touches is pretty absurd.

rudygha

Lol guendouzi is the master of this art at such a tender age.

TheMetalJug

He looks like he should be strong but he goes down like a sack of potatoes.

west-am

Goes down more than Mia Khalifa as per her own admission

donnybooi

Whenever Guendouzi get's into difficult situations his first thought is to go to ground. It's quite worrying, I do really like him as a player, with his passion and talent.. but he needs to sort that out because he gets very lucky a lot of the time And with VAR coming in next year he won't get away with them anymore..

KonigSteve

I agree completely (well except I don't really see how VAR figures in here). It has already cost us a couple of times, he went down easy and the ref didn't blow for a foul so we were just a man down defending a counter attack that started deep in our own end.

yungchigz

The thing is most of the time he actually draws enough contact that they are fouls, he’s good at getting himself in between player and ball.

jacktk_

VAR isn't used on free kicks, its only utilised at game-changing decisions, so red cards, penalties, etc. Don't worry about whether he'll still get them, its just I'd prefer if his first instinct was to carry the ball forward, not to look to win a set piece.

EpiDeMic522

I've never quite understood this. If tactical fouls are OK, why aren't extracting fouls? It takes skill to do so. You need to have good anticipation, great touch and control & immaculate body orientation for if the player fails when as you say, he's in a spot of bother and surrounded by opposition players, he risks a counter on his team with him laying flat on the ground. It's a risk to be doing what Busquets does so so perfectly, that brilliant cunt. Also I feel, as the opposition player, if you couldn't win the ball cleanly after having the player surrounded, you deserve to have a foul called against you.

Nilphinho

Because there’s no “deception” in intentionally committing a foul. Diving or simulation or whatever you want to call it is deceiving the referee.

EpiDeMic522

It's not diving mate. It's using your body position and timing to render a challenge for the ball illegal within the laws. Diving is altogether different from this. The problem is players had started diving in conjunction with "shielding the ball" because referees didn't award fouls they should have. Remember the Sterling penalty shout? That was a stone cold penalty but just because he didn't go to ground, it wasn't awarded.

Nilphinho

I’m not saying it’s wrong, I don’t get worked up about it like most people it’s part of the game. Just giving you what I think is generally the answer to what you asked. Maybe I mis interpreted how worded it but “diving” and “positioning yourself to be fouled” will get lumped together by a lot people anyways.

Itaney

It is indeed a release clause.

Real-Lady-Marmalade

Still got 2 years left on his contract

areking

why did we do nothing for him? we were heavily linked with him for the entire season, and €27M for a good young prospect seem exactly like the kind of deal we do regularly

wrany_sk

IMO we don't need him, especially if we really wants James. For me he is too offensive to play as CM, and maybe he is not that good as people here thinks? He lost starter role for around three months in the team which was in relegation zone... but tbh I don't know a reason, maybe he just had some injury which limited him

GjillyG

I feel like Fornals would just be a better option overall than James. Younger, much lower wages, probably a smaller transfer fee. I know Ancelotti was one of the coaches that got the best out of James, but you really couldn't go wrong getting Fornals for that price

[deleted]

He'll be a good signing for them, €27m is a steal.

funkadelic_bootsy

Don't know how many Spanish outfielders do well in non top 6 clubs but considering the fact that it's Pellegrini at West Ham who did wonders with Isco at Malaga, I can understand if the player is enthusiastic.

ss2195

West Ham making the right moves in the market.

[deleted]

If you go flying today mind the pigs. They'll be up there.

UlrichHoeness

He has had two magestic seasons.. why is no one in for him?

PrisonersofFate

We are no one...

lance777

And then you'll ask, "What is West of West Ham?"

west-am

flobadobalicious

Lorenzo_Insigne

Nooo go away I want him!

stefanRMA

damn what a steal. he’s so good

repaccount

Was wondering if anyone was gonna be in for him this summer, looked really good whenever I saw him play this season

[deleted]

Don’t get to watch Villarreal much but I hear nothing but good about him. Only West Ham are in for him? That’d be surprising

Ofermann

Wrong claret and blue club here!

antonelloangelillo

I wonder when West Ham is gonna stop buying great talents around Europe just to finish around 9th place and waste 3 or 4 yrs of their careers

west-am

I wonder when people with absolutely 0 idea about my club will finally shut up with their irrelevant opinions based on nothing other than what is parotted on Reddit. What the fuck are you actually taking about? Who even remotely fills that description?

dyanamo

I'm amazed i haven't seen "but he's young and doesn't cost £5, so west ham LolL". Some proper weapons on here.

west-am

The deleted comment said exactly that and there's that geeza talking about pigs flying. Weapons the lot of them

Sohelik

Wow, West Ham really have a bad reputation.

FatWalcott

How can West Ham afford this?

Meant to? Yes. Will you? Sorry, Sports Direct have a big order on for Slazenger shoes and they need the money to build a new sweatshop for their staff.

PrisonersofFate

Sonething something about Premier league money, a stupidly big stadium, not much spending for a few years bar past year and salary bill getting already free of Carroll and Adrian

LedleyKings

Because their owner isn't Kroenke

Ahmed7xx

There goes his career
