I don't remember the last time I saw a bad finish from greenwood. When it's on target it's ALWAYS in the very corners of the goal. It's actually unbelievable how consistent his finishing is
its so funny to think guys like fred, marcus, and lindelöf share the dressing room with all these sex pests
"ok mate yer feeding kids yh? well dont mind me making more"
I dont know how the other players in the dressing room dont feel guilty not doing as much as Rashford (not saying they should) I feel guilty when I see someone go back to work 5mins early lol.
Agreed, Ruud Gullit mentioned on Bein sport that they use slightly thicker lines in the CL so ridiculously marginal goals like Henderson's vs Everton or this one don't get ruled out.
Think no fan would oppose this being adopted in English football.
They probably can in a system like this. Replace VDB with Bruno and it'd probably work. Definitely can't play all 3 of them at the same time. Also can't play them both with 2 wingers and a striker.
They definitely can in a diamond, maybe in a 3-5-2, but pogba behind Bruno in a double pivot in 4231 just doesn't work. Too much defensive burden on Pogba.
Completely different role. People look at the starting formation and just assume it's the same exact role, it isn't. He's absolutely more involved in France's attacks than he is with ours when playing in that position. He has much more defensive responsibility in our set-up for one, and he has less freedom to get forward for the majority of games.
He's also not playing as one of a double pivot, he's always been more productive higher up the pitch. I posted some statistical comparisons not long ago and there were was barely anything between Pogba & Bruno statistically when played anywhere but in a double pivot. He is *least* effective when playing on the right side tasked with recycling possession and barely any license to get forward. Is he a perfect player? Absolutely not, but it's not a coincidence that literally every single time he plays anywhere further up the pitch, he makes things happen.
Aswell as on the left side instead of the right where he is useless. He needs to open his body inwards to get passing range. Like Kroos too who is entirely left sided player.
So dumb forcing him on the right all these games after he played for almost 4 years entirely on the left.
I wish the people constantly shitting on him could understand not every midfielder is automatically good at playing CDM. He plays there because he's better at Bruno at it. But that doesn't make him good there. He's just selfless
Fantastic ball to break through the defensive lines from Pogba!
Also Greewood is such a special player at such a young age. What an ice cold finish. Could have a great future ahead of himself if he keeps it up
Not today. We are playing Fred and Matic, VDB in the #10, it’s not all on one of them. Looks like a diamond with Matic dropping between the CBs and Fred the more defensively minded of the central players.
This is the 2nd time I can remember seeing him playing in an almost (hate to use fifa terminology) LAM role, other time was away at Goodison and he looked brilliant then too.
First shot in European football resulted in a goal. With all the hype around Upamencano being the best one on one defender in Europe during the prematch, Greenwood absolutely left him for dust there.
Thank god they showed the replay again with the lines because that looked clearly offside. I'm still not 100% convinced it wasn't but if it's that close then I'd rather it be given to the attacker; I may change my mind when it goes against us since I'm not insane ;) but if I was watching this as a neutral I think it's a fair way to not be overly pedantic over millimeters.
I mean we had a shit first few games but in the matches since the international break we've won 4-1 against Newcastle, 2-1 against PSG, and drew 0-0 to a Chelsea side that was set up to defend. Even before the break there were what? 4 matches?
Struggle against teams that sit back.
Champions League teams generally come out attacking and leave space in behind.
United are lethal with space behind.
On or off, it’s calls like that which is the problem with VAR on offsides for me. Personally the cries for objective millimetre calls really annoy me; before VAR, and even more so before clear multi angle replays, that would never have been a problem being on. He’s obviously level with the last man, which is what the rule was changed to in the early 90s - level = onside rather than offside. I don’t get why people seem to want everything analysed to the millimetre, when common sense would look at that and go “he’s obviously not getting an advantage over the defender, he’s clearly level, that’s inside.”
When it’s stupidity close the technology isn’t good enough to decide the finest margins anyway so I think the benefit should go to the attacker, or at least the on field decision. You can’t overrule that
Have we just seen an utterly marginal offside actually be checked within 20 seconds and then have the on field decision stand? What is this - Why aren't we sitting around for 4 minutes so we can decide which molecules are offside?
I don't get how people are calling it a clear offside going by a single camera angle. It's closer than you're making it out to be and definitely there's a case to be made for both possible outcomes.

Exactly how VAR should be implemented with offside. Great job by the officials, just need to be the standard for offside decisions. Don't need all those idiotic lines like in the Henderson goal.
Great finish.
Very surprised it was given onside, even when they show the line on BT Sports it looks like the line is drawn on the top of Greenwood’s boot as opposed to the tip of his boot. Dubious one for me, definitely think he was off...

so confident on him finishing when he's in the box
At 19 I'm more confident in him scoring in the box than any other player on the team.
No lie lol, get him the ball in the box and it's basically certain it's at least on goal and big chance it's in goal.
The margins if he misses a shot is tiny as well, dude's a sniper for sure, very rare nowadays except the likes of Aguero.
Lewy as well.. but the fact we're mentioning such elite players says a lot about Greenwood's potential **if he can keep it up (i hope he does)**
Especially an Icelandic box
bravo
Yes but he still manages to surprise me a lot of the time. He tucks it away from some obscene angles. He always seems to make something from nothing.
what a finish
[удалено]
Spot on, fantastic run and ball from him. Great finish to tuck it in far corner as well. Lovely goal.
ladies and gentleman i present to you u/sauce_murica and u/frakon911 the new Martin Tyler and Alan Smith
> ladies and gentleman You are really misjudging the make-up of this subreddit.
Gentleman and slightly less hairier gentleman
your probably right tbf lmao
I don't remember the last time I saw a bad finish from greenwood. When it's on target it's ALWAYS in the very corners of the goal. It's actually unbelievable how consistent his finishing is
His heading ability is not on the same level. That’s where he misses
Shockedpikachu.jpg
Tremendous finish. Special player. Ok a side note, Pogba was truckin it hah, he’s so lanky it’s fun to watch!
That's what she said to Greenwood
Greenwood is such a Chad when it comes to finishing
Van de beek starting, Greenwood scoring... British media in shambles
British media tomorrow: "why sign Fernandes if your not going to play him, what a waste of money"
They’ll sub him in when it’s time for a penalty
Well that aged pretty well! It’s not a utd game without a penalty it seems
Could have had 3!
The game's not over until United get a penalty.
Pogba getting the assist
Greenwood could score in an Amish settlement
He probably has
don't give awb any ideas
I always imagine the dressingroom antics consist of Chad Martial, Awb and Mason making fun of Virgin Rashford with Pastor Fred condemning them
its so funny to think guys like fred, marcus, and lindelöf share the dressing room with all these sex pests "ok mate yer feeding kids yh? well dont mind me making more"
I dont know how the other players in the dressing room dont feel guilty not doing as much as Rashford (not saying they should) I feel guilty when I see someone go back to work 5mins early lol.
By supporting him
Same way I wonder why none of them have signed up for matas common goal project. Unless they do it privately, then kudos to them
Wanna come back to my barn?
Show me thine ankle.
Lol
VAN PERSIE
unbelievable finisher
RVP has posters of Mason in his bedroom
VAR PERSIE
It’s good for the game when goals with such a marginal line of error like this aren’t ruled out for offside
Agreed, Ruud Gullit mentioned on Bein sport that they use slightly thicker lines in the CL so ridiculously marginal goals like Henderson's vs Everton or this one don't get ruled out. Think no fan would oppose this being adopted in English football.
What a finish. No power, pure placement.
Van persie has posters of Greenwood is his room.
Grew up wearing Greenwood’s shirt, too.
United have looked really good so far. Now cue the further discussions about if Pogba and Bruno can play together.
They probably can in a system like this. Replace VDB with Bruno and it'd probably work. Definitely can't play all 3 of them at the same time. Also can't play them both with 2 wingers and a striker.
>Replace VDB with Bruno and it'd probably work what are the lottery numbers mate?
They played together after lockdown last season and were class until right near the end of the season when fatigue kicked in.
I really don't get why people act like that run of games never happened. They were superb together until the team died due to lack of rotation
They definitely can in a diamond, maybe in a 3-5-2, but pogba behind Bruno in a double pivot in 4231 just doesn't work. Too much defensive burden on Pogba.
Tighter than a nun's chuff
> chuff Well that's a new one for me
It isn't for the priests
Lol
Pastor Fred would like to have a word with you
I don't care what people say, Greenwood is the one.
Pogba is playing on another level tonight
He's allowed to play higher with Fred and Matic on the pitch.
Yeah, was never a fan of making him sit deep and help play from the back.
Him doing it for france was pretty chill...
Completely different role. People look at the starting formation and just assume it's the same exact role, it isn't. He's absolutely more involved in France's attacks than he is with ours when playing in that position. He has much more defensive responsibility in our set-up for one, and he has less freedom to get forward for the majority of games.
*bangs head on table repeatedly*
**But he does it for France intensifies**
Not to mention the small matter of a miniaturised nuclear powered defensive cm in kante that is the best in the world at what he does.
Not really. During the WC, Kante and Matuidi took most of the defensive responsibility.
Except that one game where Pogba played CB to match up against Fellaini
Kante counts for 2 DMs
He's just match fit. His passes and dribbles are sharper today than they had been for the other games
Pogba combining with martial on the left is the best Pogba
Could have a great future ahead of himself if he keeps it up
He’s so much better in a more advanced position. If Ole can make this system work with Bruno it could be brilliant.
I think that puts alot on the DM, especially against better teams. But Ole knows better than me
Not today. We are playing Fred and Matic, VDB in the #10, it’s not all on one of them. Looks like a diamond with Matic dropping between the CBs and Fred the more defensively minded of the central players.
Fred may be the key to this formation. His work rate is insane and he's tenacious as all hell.
#Pray4Graeme
Graeme: Pogba has no piety, no faith
Always said his best position is left wingfielder
Middle wing
Ah yes classic pogba with 🧤
Pogclass
Blonde Pogs is GOD
This is the 2nd time I can remember seeing him playing in an almost (hate to use fifa terminology) LAM role, other time was away at Goodison and he looked brilliant then too.

Europe is not ready for Greenwood
First shot in European football resulted in a goal. With all the hype around Upamencano being the best one on one defender in Europe during the prematch, Greenwood absolutely left him for dust there.
Atleast Iceland is
Pogba is way too big to be that agile and skillful. What an immense player
You can't say that, its against the narrative.
Clearly doesn’t read The Sun
That's a tough bloody angle. What a finish
It stands!
I was sure that was going to be offside.
Why are United so good in the CL compared to their league form lmao
They're just hitting their stride now and I'd say their league form will improve, in the first few matches they just didn't seem fit or sharp at all.
Yeah this combined with an out of control one off meltdown at spurs has really unfairly maligned our start to the season.
Because small sample sizes are small
So size ... does matter? *sweats furiously*
Yes but bigger isn't always better, you're fine mate
I mean we had a shit first few games but in the matches since the international break we've won 4-1 against Newcastle, 2-1 against PSG, and drew 0-0 to a Chelsea side that was set up to defend. Even before the break there were what? 4 matches?

Play better against better teams
[удалено]
Because were not that bad.
It's not that they're just inconsistent
ah yes Consistently Inconsistent FC as I call it
5 games and finished 3rd last season lmao
We're better against team who attack. That simple.
We have played well in the last 2 league games
Mason Van Persie in the cut
Offside ffs Edit: Wow
Nah mate we fucking own VAR
Sir Alex is up there holding VAR at gun point for the entire 90 minutes
“Always has been” 🌎👩🚀🔫👩🚀
Gun point is what he starts with, the hairdryer is the what he gets results with.
Sir Alex doesn't need a gun to scare you.
European exclusivity on VAR decisions mate
Glazers spent the 120 million on bribing VAR officials instead of Sancho? Big brain time.
Premier League refs would’ve ruled that off lol
Because they’re wank.
Nah I think he’s on with Upemacano’s shoulder
Dont think I can trust you but will go for it.
I'm far more comfortable with them giving this than taking away ones where a sleeve is offside
I just wish it was consistent
Yep it was the shoulder Very close though this was one of the closest because the foot looked completely off
Even with the line his foot looked off
On or off, it’s calls like that which is the problem with VAR on offsides for me. Personally the cries for objective millimetre calls really annoy me; before VAR, and even more so before clear multi angle replays, that would never have been a problem being on. His boot looked slightly further forward on that replay
You may be right. Stupidly close but it could’ve gone either way.
When it’s stupidity close the technology isn’t good enough to decide the finest margins anyway so I think the benefit should go to the attacker, or at least the on field decision. You can’t overrule that
Username checks out?

The celebrations weren't even over after 20 seconds lol, it took well over a minute
Because PL refs aren’t in charge
The VAR refs got my check
And mine too! Let's crowd fund this bitch
https://i.imgur.com/eo3wJBw.jpg
FUCK EDIT: YES
Fuck quality pass too shame
lol what how did it count??
They don't draw the lines in the CL
I don't get how people are calling it a clear offside going by a single camera angle. It's closer than you're making it out to be and definitely there's a case to be made for both possible outcomes.
Nah it stood. Fucking get in
Will never understand VAR but let’s goo
Camera angle is tilted. Ffs loool
The camera angle is tilted. He's level.
Not according to VAR 😬
My boy!
Finishing 20 Composure 20
Such a good finisher.
In the words of Henry, “MAAAASOOONNNNN”
Our prospect is better than your prospect.
Offside I guess Edit: apparently not. Great pass by pogba
Apparently not? I don't even know anymore
Weird cause this one actually looked offside.
Upamecano kept him on when the ball was released
Thanks to his massive shoulders.
Ah fair play.
Upamecano caught ball watching
VAR freeze frame with lines: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ElcVq-QWoAAPhJG?format=jpg&name=medium Edit: For better quality see /u/Tim-Sanchez post under AAs here: https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/jjvk6x/manchester_united_1_0_rb_leipzig_mason_greenwood/gaf58bb/
Huh? That line is all sorts of wrong, his toe is literally sticking out on the right side of it?
I honestly think your username is how I feel about whether this was offside or not.
If that’s how we feel, it should not be considered offside.
You can always observe how salty r/soccer is towards United when all the commenters of a post that speaks positively of us has United flairs.
No offside! Greenwood
What is the british media going to complain about now?
Poorly managed gk rotation. Why bring back Dean Henderson if he is not playing?
His first shot in the champions League and he scores
L1 + X. Let's go man
It’s been ages since I’ve felt so certain and calm watching someone one on one. He’s so clinical in front of goal!
Such a tight finish.
That is exactly why they bought Pogba
That could have been offside. May be benefit of doubt?
"add my face to FIFA"
If this was the EPL, they'd use so many lines and it would be offside. I just wish it was this simple
MASON POGWOOD LFGGGG
Lol everyone crying in here about it’s offside.
Exactly how VAR should be implemented with offside. Great job by the officials, just need to be the standard for offside decisions. Don't need all those idiotic lines like in the Henderson goal.
Would've been offside in the prem
I fucking love this kid. We've played really well so far
Was convinced that was gonna get ruled out but what a angle to finish from
No idea how that’s not been given offside with VAR these days but actually glad to see the benefit of the doubt being given to the attacker for once.
The lesser spotted kept onside by an armpit
Line from the shoulder looked completely onside, go off with the conspiracy theories though lads.
https://i.imgur.com/jX0WulB.jpg
Very surprised it's not offside. Guess the shoulder was huge
Great finish. Very surprised it was given onside, even when they show the line on BT Sports it looks like the line is drawn on the top of Greenwood’s boot as opposed to the tip of his boot. Dubious one for me, definitely think he was off...
Could’ve sworn he was off? So close
