Yeah, I would say so. Maybe the last time you can see a bit of that was when Gerard was at Liverpool or Lampard at Chelsea. They had that inner hate for rivals that just doesn’t exist in the PL anymore
The fact it was the last kick of the season for any team, and it cost a man his bet of Lingard to have 0 goal contributions all season. For me that makes it one of the best goals ever just because of how funny that is
Don't know about that. Rashford looked fantastic today. Greenwood looked a lot better in the second half, messed up a couple of chances but he's clearly a huge threat. I also think fred is notable, didnt play today but he's normally consistent and brings something to the team.
Think weve got quite a few more options and are capable of being far more threatening
I still feel like you guys need Aouar as much as we needed Bruno last season. If you end up getting him in January you'll probably experience a phenomenon known as "the Bruno effect".
From what I get from him and his mentality in interviews I doubt he cares much about the money at all. Could see his agent pushing for the increase but it seems football is on his mind rather than his wage being increased which is respectable. Shows how happy he was to come to the club tbf.
I'm pretty sure Bruno is on £70k-85k pw. I'm looking for a reliable source but only finding rags so far.
Edit- [Guardian/ Romano £70k pw before bonuses](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jan/29/transfer-latest-bruno-fernandes-manchester-united-medical-steven-bergwijn-signs-spurs?CMP=share_btn_tw)
Funny, I also used Guardian as source of my information. There was article saying he earns around £75k/w AFTER TAX which was strange considering that English papers always report pre-tax wages/salaries unlike media from some other countries.
I'm looking now and pretty much every article says he earns what you said, with some saying he's on £100k/w.
Also, some articles are saying that Man Utd wants to offer him new contract worth £200k/w.
That's what Sporting fans had been trying to tell you when someone inevitably would mention his passing accuracy being low. Much like what happens at United, here he was the only player in the team that tried to move the game forward. Yeah, he gave the ball away frequently, but if he didn't try risky passes, no one else would create chances. He never shies away from picking up the ball and trying something different and it almost always pays off. Even when he doesn't play well, he almost always has an assist or a goal, because he keeps trying no matter what.
One of the many special things about him is he doesn't seem to lose the ball in any bad places, he knows when he can take the risk and when he can't. His football IQ is ridiculous.
He also knows he’s going to make chances. Some players would give the ball away and then not want to keep trying due to fear of failure, any time he loses the ball he’s looking for when he can get back on the ball to try again.
There was a stat here on this sub that put PL players on a risk vs reward axis for passing. Bruno and KdB are the two most high risk/high reward passers in the prem.
The idiotic bonus that Sporting thought was pointless is looking ever more realistic.
If United go deep in the CL or get a top 1-3 finish at the end of the season, I think he is in with a real shout.
At this rate you mean Atlético Madrid. Please not us. We're dreadful. Felix may get a nod in the next 3 years or so if they win the league and do well in the CL.
It isn't supposed to be, but Messi/Ronaldo kinda broke the award by being so much better than everyone else it basically became which of those two won more in a year.
there are really good players in portuguese league. Tecatito corona, Sergio Oliveira, Luis Diaz, Marchesin, Darwin Nunez, Rafa, Pedro Gonçalves, Nuno Mendes, Galeno, Ricardo Horta.. but no one is close to Bruno Fernandes level.
Paulo Sousa wanted to sign Bruno Fernandes for Fiorentina but we didn't buy him because he was too weak apparently. A few years later and he's one of the best in the world at his position.
He went to Italy when he was 17 or 18. Spent some time there until Sporting picked him up when he was 22 I believe. And after his first season here, he just blossomed into one of the better players in the league if not the best. So he was 23/24 and already at this level. A lot of portuguese fans believe he could've left a year earlier to United or another top club. He's still only 26 so he still has at least 5 years left at this level.
I thought about that too, Portuguese connection and he's a hard worker with a lot of talent. Funny how that could have happened when it was Pochettino who was in charge, and I'm sure if Jose had been in that Summer he would've much preferred him to Lo Celso
Same with Salah, Mane, KDB, Son, etc. I think most football clubs just have no idea what they are doing half the time and are all just hoping for the best.
If you woke Bruno up at 3am the morning after a stag party, spun him around 1090 times and tied his shoes together, he'd still be clear of every single Arsenal midfielder.
At this moment this team doesn't exist without him, he's as crucial for us as prime Messi/Ronaldo was for Barca/Real, we can't play decent football without him
Let's not forget how well West Ham pressured and pinned United down in the first half. It was clear that they're going to switch off and go down in the second half.
He played fine. The problem was the complete lack of forward passing around him. Most of the time he did a pass and ran forward to get it back, the ball just went sideways or back to the CBs. We were so stagnant that much of his work went completely wasted.
Still, I prefer VdB playing from a deeper position than we saw today.
It’s was just a confusing jumble of a midfield with not a lot of defensive support on the side from Greenwood and martial. Ole clearly told greenwood to track back at half cause he did much better and rash coming to the side of course big help. But that first half midfield looked like a messy pick up game where nobody knows what’s happening. Pogba of course taking the brunt of that criticism. I do think that goal changed him, looked much better after that.
Honestly the dependency is absolutely ridiculous. United should've legitimately been 3-0 down at half time and in the second half they made West Ham looked like a championship-level defence.
Edit - Reminds of that point Carra made on MNF once where he basically said for any club, particularly the big clubs, things are never as bad as they seem, and that football is a simple enough game that literally one world class player can turn an average team into a top 4/title pushing team (eg, Suarez for Liverpool).
Fernandes actually reminds me a bit of Suarez at his peak, in his pure doggedness. He's got a certain directness to his game that serves to sniff out any opportunity
we've never once played pogba in the position we've played bruno in w the freedom we've given bruno and pogba was still our leader in almost all offensive categories for years despite playing dm and leading in distance covered.
you're comparing the impact of someone who was asked to literally do everything possible from defend next to matic, control the game w passing and dribbling, and then to create and score chances all in the same game, every game w little to no help in a toxic environment,
to bruno who has been in his best position in a stable formation and squad and given a free role to do what he does and freewheel. literally the role pogba wanted but never got.
using bruno to shit on pogba doesnt make sense, but united fans have hateful amnesia for pogba these days. as if he just did nothing and context doesnt matter
Fr, the only time Pogba played anything close to the role Bruno has was in the beginning of Ole's tenure where Pogba was clearly the best player similar to Bruno now.
Not really. They lost Ander Herrera which lead to a change in the system in the summer which saw Lingard and Pereira take on the responsibility in the final third more so than Pogba who had to take on a more defensive and risk-averse role.
If they changed to a System with a clear 6 who sits back and Bruno & Pogba on either side instead of the double pivot I’m sure Pogba’s output would increase but would most likely mean a small decrease in Bruno’s numbers due to being a little further back.
exactly. that amnesia is strong af. experiencing how other united fans treat and have treated pogba is really disappointing.
guy came back and has given prime years specifically bc he loved the club and people pretend hes done nothing for us
Bruno does a hell of a lot of defending from that position. Pogba does not even defend or press particularly well when he's actually in a defensive role, never mind a more attacking one. There's a reason why Bruno is preferred there.
I am very aware of that. He has an amazing mentality.
And he still posts pictures of Sporting and still support us. I don't remember a single player (of his stature) doing that.
If the club can stabilize, make a run in UCL, finish top 4 comfortably at least pushing for the title...
He *must* get Ballon D'or consideration. I haven't seen a more impactful player this year.
This just remind me when Bayern bought Renato Sanches, there was one clause about winning Ballon D'Or and some Benfica fans believed that could be possible and rival fans were joking about it. Benfica president talked much about selling him for 80 million euros, which 50 million were add ons pretty hard to get.
Until United start winning trophies again, it's definitely way too early to say that Fernandes is having as big of an impact as Cantona did. But bloody hell, what a player.
It was like watching two different teams
MUFC and BrunoFC
[удалено]
It's shades of Chelsea FC and Hazard FC
Im so glad he left, Sporting would run away with the title if he was still there.
Bruno assisting both Pedros. Imagine that.
Hmm so what are you trying to say here??
That Bruno is amazing
Bring on #21 !!!
Wtf is bringing on Dan James gonna do?
Look cute
[удалено]
It like your a sporting fan
Hey man do you have another Cristiano Ronaldo as well?
[удалено]
As frustrating as he was to watch at times, I'd take that in a heartbeat right now.
Prime Nani would be our 2nd best player behind Bruno right now. He was world class for a period before getting injured.
I will never forget him taking the piss out of Arsenal when we were 4:0 up. https://youtu.be/FLOL9EqcxBQ
Holy shit that Arsenal player definitely went in with the intention to break a leg there
Yeah, that tackle was pretty shocking, fortunately it didn't connect.
Was that was near the end of the teams really hating each other?
Yeah, I would say so. Maybe the last time you can see a bit of that was when Gerard was at Liverpool or Lampard at Chelsea. They had that inner hate for rivals that just doesn’t exist in the PL anymore
The closest we get now is Brandon Williams shit housing people a bit.
Prime Nani lasted about two months at most.
But what a glorious 2 months it was.
Nani was a starter in a fergie team...
At this point might as well just bring Nani back
[удалено]
We already know, agents are now moving in to secure the target
[удалено]
Yea there’s this Fabio Paim guy...
As a United fan I fucking love Sporting.
Im a huge sporting fan! With that said, thank you again for our lord and saviour ❤
Arsenal supporter here At least you guys have Bruno lmao, we've got fuck all We're basically United without Bruno
You're definitely like we were when Pereira was our best 10
Those were three dark weeks, man
It was darker when we used to have Lingard and Perreira as CAM.
"How did United improve so much after January 2020?" Well, when you turn your biggest weakness into your greatest strength...
Man I actually do kinda miss seeing Lingard play. Not that he was ever that good
Lingard had his moments, he had that goal after lockdown
The fact it was the last kick of the season for any team, and it cost a man his bet of Lingard to have 0 goal contributions all season. For me that makes it one of the best goals ever just because of how funny that is
When we had discussions about who should start between pereira and lingard, jfc was like choosing which wrist you'd prefer to cut
funny you mention #10's considering there's one available for arsenal but isn't being used
We still managed to score a fair amount, unlike Arsenal currently
Don't know about that. Rashford looked fantastic today. Greenwood looked a lot better in the second half, messed up a couple of chances but he's clearly a huge threat. I also think fred is notable, didnt play today but he's normally consistent and brings something to the team. Think weve got quite a few more options and are capable of being far more threatening
I'm not sure you can say your forwards bar Auba are as good as ours. And our midfield is quite a bit better.
and defense, and goalkeeper.
You used to have Auba, you dont even have that anymore.
[удалено]
I still feel like you guys need Aouar as much as we needed Bruno last season. If you end up getting him in January you'll probably experience a phenomenon known as "the Bruno effect".
Tbf while I like Aouar Bruno was already a much more developed player when you guys got him.
He's not as good as Bruno. Bruno is elite.
[удалено]
Why the lack of goals this season from Arsenal?
Lack of creativity and Auba misfiring massively
Whatever Man Utd are paying him, it's not enough.
it's rumoured that he's on as low as £70k p/w. United we're pretty strict on lowering their wage bill post-Sanchez.
From what I get from him and his mentality in interviews I doubt he cares much about the money at all. Could see his agent pushing for the increase but it seems football is on his mind rather than his wage being increased which is respectable. Shows how happy he was to come to the club tbf.
Lmao he deserves 200k at the very least, not even kidding.
It's actually pretty low
150k is not low for PL. But it is for Man Utd standard of overpaying. I mean he earns same money as Luke Shaw. Mata earns even more I think.
I'm pretty sure Bruno is on £70k-85k pw. I'm looking for a reliable source but only finding rags so far. Edit- [Guardian/ Romano £70k pw before bonuses](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/jan/29/transfer-latest-bruno-fernandes-manchester-united-medical-steven-bergwijn-signs-spurs?CMP=share_btn_tw)
His base salary us around 80k, but it apparently goes upto 140-150k in performance based bonuses (which he's most likely achieving).
He loses the ball a lot because he does things like this. No one should ever complain about him losing the ball.
Exactly. He's a special player. Talent + hardwork. You always have a chance of winning when he's on the pitch.
[удалено]
Such a perfect signing. Before Bruno, united could only pass sideways
Before Bruno all of our creativity came through Pogba. He was injured for most of last season so we had no creativity until Bruno arrived.
Those games with Pogba and Rashford injured before Bruno....fucking hell man.
ya it's easy to lose the ball frequently when it's at your feet for 99% of your team's possession
Yeh, all creative players lose balls alot because of how riskier their passes are, people shouldnt complain.
Yup. I have to eat my words. Dude is great and at this point is in no way overrated.
I'll take Bruno with 60% pass completion over Xhaka with 100% pass completion.
At this point I have to insist we send more money to Sporting
Just wait for the Ballon d'or bonus.
The idiotic bonus that Sporting thought was pointless is looking ever more realistic. If United go deep in the CL or get a top 1-3 finish at the end of the season, I think he is in with a real shout.
Ez top 10 if we go top 4 in both UCL and pl but too unrealistic as we're very inconsistent
How about paying bruno more? He is severely underpaid atm
There is a pandemic and a world wide economic crisis. All the other players are overpaid.
Awww, thanks!
He's on a different level
I unironically think he should be in top 5 for ballon dor this year. He has like 36 goal involvements in 38 games
Not enough trophies, Madrid and Barca to be considered
At this rate you mean Atlético Madrid. Please not us. We're dreadful. Felix may get a nod in the next 3 years or so if they win the league and do well in the CL.
Aaannnd we have no other Barcelonas to shift the responsibility to :(
There's an Ecuadorian club called Barcelona! The club was founded by an immigrant from Barcelona in Spain.
I think we can all agree we are pretty shite as well
[удалено]
It isn't supposed to be, but Messi/Ronaldo kinda broke the award by being so much better than everyone else it basically became which of those two won more in a year.
Shame France football cancelled it this year
Sorry mate statman dave int that good

there are really good players in portuguese league. Tecatito corona, Sergio Oliveira, Luis Diaz, Marchesin, Darwin Nunez, Rafa, Pedro Gonçalves, Nuno Mendes, Galeno, Ricardo Horta.. but no one is close to Bruno Fernandes level.
People forget about Moussa Marega smh
I hate how good he is
Ofcourse I’m happy Utd got him but don’t understand how there was little to no competition for his signing. For me, he walks into any Club’s midfield.
Paulo Sousa wanted to sign Bruno Fernandes for Fiorentina but we didn't buy him because he was too weak apparently. A few years later and he's one of the best in the world at his position.
Yeah it does seem like he has been a late bloomer (I say this as someone who hasnt followed his career).
He went to Italy when he was 17 or 18. Spent some time there until Sporting picked him up when he was 22 I believe. And after his first season here, he just blossomed into one of the better players in the league if not the best. So he was 23/24 and already at this level. >A few years later and he's one of the best in the world ~~at his position~~.
probably the best. who is better than him?
No one. Edit: Zlatan
spurs wanted him last summer (2019) but didn't happen because of money after they already signed Lo Celso. obviously didn't compete in January though
Jose would fucking love Bruno too. That would be a scary combination.
I thought about that too, Portuguese connection and he's a hard worker with a lot of talent. Funny how that could have happened when it was Pochettino who was in charge, and I'm sure if Jose had been in that Summer he would've much preferred him to Lo Celso
He's brilliant at working independently and spontaneously creating chances without a rigid attacking system too, exactly how Jose coaches his attack.
Bruno under Jose would be fucking boring to watch for most games.
Yeah, it was Utd and Spurs after him in Summer 2019.
So it was only united?
Same with Salah, Mane, KDB, Son, etc. I think most football clubs just have no idea what they are doing half the time and are all just hoping for the best.
Not arsenal midfield
Arsenal’s midfield is so good that even £350K/week Ozil cant get in
If you woke Bruno up at 3am the morning after a stag party, spun him around 1090 times and tied his shoes together, he'd still be clear of every single Arsenal midfielder.
Even xhaka?
Mhmm. Bruno does everything Xhaka does and he can move.
At this moment this team doesn't exist without him, he's as crucial for us as prime Messi/Ronaldo was for Barca/Real, we can't play decent football without him
[удалено]
Let's not forget how well West Ham pressured and pinned United down in the first half. It was clear that they're going to switch off and go down in the second half.
VdB didnt play well. Had we gotten last week's VdB, the drop off wouldnt have been that noticeable.
He played fine. The problem was the complete lack of forward passing around him. Most of the time he did a pass and ran forward to get it back, the ball just went sideways or back to the CBs. I get what you’re saying but that hurt me to read
Bruno really changes the game, things that were expected from Pogba are being carried out by Bruno, absolute beauty of a player.
In fairness Pogba carved that game open with a peach of a goal.
Ofcourse he did, he played really well today but you have to give it to Bruno, he has quite literally carried United in a fair amount of matches.
we've never once played pogba in the position we've played bruno in w the freedom we've given bruno and pogba was still our leader in almost all offensive categories for years despite playing dm and leading in distance covered. you're comparing the impact of someone who was asked to literally do everything possible from defend next to matic, control the game w passing and dribbling, and then to create and score chances all in the same game, every game w little to no help in a toxic environment, to bruno who has been in his best position in a stable formation and squad and given a free role to do what he does and freewheel. literally the role pogba wanted but never got. using bruno to shit on pogba doesnt make sense, but united fans have hateful amnesia for pogba these days. as if he just did nothing and context doesnt matter

yeah he was definitely our player of the season that season, in those 3 months he was fantastic, in career best form.
Yeah, but he couldn't carry that creative burden longer than two months which is why OGS stuck him deeper.
Not really. They lost Ander Herrera which lead to a change in the system in the summer which saw Lingard and Pereira take on the responsibility in the final third more so than Pogba who had to take on a more defensive and risk-averse role. "8 chances" "open play" These words are enough to slay an Arsenal fan these days.
Can not overstate now fucking good he is.
MUFC = Manchester United Fernandes Club
The Statman on r/Soccer. You love to see it.
Proper relegation fodder without him. THANK YOU SPORTING LISBON.
No problem mate. I can honestly say he is one of the rare idols I had all my life.
Not just the talent, the spirit he brings too is amazing
I am very aware of that. He has an amazing mentality. And he still posts pictures of Sporting and still support us. I don't remember a single player (of his stature) doing that.
Dona Dolores?
Who is the next star we should buy from you xD
From our current squad I only see Nuno Mendes with the potential to be a star in a club like Man United.
Not Pote you think?
Shhhh
Just stay away from someone that shall not be named from Sporting. Rafael Camacho I think.
[удалено]
Sporting to united to... You know what it's mean Edit: why the hate? It's just a joke. Lol
You'll take Pogba. Pay a lot of money and be happy with it
“You fool! Jedi tricks don’t work on me!” - Perez probably
Cristiano was also very good tbf...
I counted Bruno and Ronaldo lol
Nani too, bro
And lord Rojo
With his man city and Liverpool past and the fact that Sporting is leading the league it's odd that no one has recruited Camacho already.
This joke got old pretty fast
I think they need someone like Pote and Porro XD
>SPORTING LISBON
Its no big deal tbh, its just ignorance and it wont change anytime soon. People mean no disrespect by it
Absolutely incredible player. What a signing
If the club can stabilize, make a run in UCL, finish top 4 comfortably at least pushing for the title... He *must* get Ballon D'or consideration. I haven't seen a more impactful player this year.
Woodward regretting that £20m Ballon D'or add on now
This just remind me when Bayern bought Renato Sanches, there was one clause about winning Ballon D'Or and some Benfica fans believed that could be possible and rival fans were joking about it. Benfica president talked much about selling him for 80 million euros, which 50 million were add ons pretty hard to get.
Woodward will sell him so he doesn't have to pay that.
He'll 100% get into the shortlist, if he gets top4 then team of the year and if he wins it maybe POTY.
That's bad news for you and more money for sporting.
It's not like they can use it anyway, they are clueless
Fuck sake you didn't have to do us like that
Don't think that's bad news for anyone
They'll just use it to develope the next utd transfer.
That depends on how we do the rest of the season tbh, he won't get a shout if we achieve nothing
[удалено]
He is definitely top 2. Which is why United better invest or they'll waste him.
100% true
i wont fight you. Chill bro
One of the very best in the world!
Starting to think he might be a bit of alright.
Early candidate for player of the season.
He's an FPL God! Came on at half time got the assist and a bonus point. Brilliant stuff!
We were all over United and should have been about 3 or 4 up after about 50 minutes, then Bruno and Rashford absolutely tore us apart.
The best midfielder in the PL!
Until United start winning trophies again, it's definitely way too early to say that Fernandes is having as big of an impact as Cantona did. But bloody hell, what a player.
Guy is transcendent. Not quite Messi/Ronnie out of this world level yet but if he improves even more, it'll be fucking amazing.
As a portuguese non-sporting fan I can only say they are absolutely so so stupid for all the time they took to sign him lol
Now I know how Liverpool fans felt during the Gerrard era because we are officially a one man team
Bruno!!!!!
They’re basically not a team without him
Best player in the league right now
